Background info: Ness and Mad had a rough childhood with an abusive father. Their mother left them when they were little.

Your little brother never tells you but he loves you so (Refering to Mad never telling Ness he loves him so their relationship is more strained than Ness would like and makes him think that Mad may not love him)

You said your mother only smiled on her TV show (Their mother loved her little boys and showed them all the love in the world and put on a little happy facade until she left them because she couldn't deal with their father)

You're only happy when your sorry head is filled with dope (Ness has smoked since he was a teen because he couldn't deal with the guilt and trauma)

I hope you make it to the day you're 28 years old (Ness struggled as a young adult because he didn't know to function as one, no one taught him how to be one)

You're dripping like a saturated sunrise (Even despite everything Ness tries to bring happiness to the people he loves and cherishes every moment with them)

You're spilling like an overflowing sink (Can refer to Ness spilling his guts out for people to see, choosing to be vulnerable in front of them. Or Mad overflowing with negative emotions from trauma and letting them spill without thinking)

You're ripped at every edge but you're a masterpiece (Ness still loves Mad and his father even though they put him through so much shit. He loves so much without receiving any in return)

And now you're tearing through the pages and the ink (Trying to find the real Ness under all that fake facade he puts up)

And he's blue (Despite loving Mad it drains him. It's hard to love someone who doesn't show any appreciation for you. Ness feels empty with every interation he has with his brother)

When the light came through (Ness perhaps experiencing hallucinations from substance abuse. His mother most likely)

I know I've only felt religion when I've lied with you (Ness used to pray everyday that his mother would take him and his brother away from their father. His mother was religious and taught Ness some of her beliefs)

You said you'll never be forgiven 'til your boys are too (Ness may have forgiven his mother for leaving but will never forgive his father for hurting them)

And I'm still waking every morning but it's not with you (Ness still misses their cuddle pile that included his mother and Mad. He dreams of her but when he awakes he's always disappointed)

But can you call yourself a real Game Theorist if you don't scream A GAME THEORY! after the word theory pops up?

Matpat just announced his upcoming retirement as the host of the Game Theory, Film Theory, Food Theory, and Style Theory YouTube channels. This is the end of a chapter, but not the end of the Theorist story.

I started watching Game Theory around the time of the "How Much is Minecraft Diamond Armor Worth?" theory video, but the FNAF lore stuff is what made me a long-term viewer. It was fun to watch lore videos and fuel my already-powerful FNAF obsession. And all the inside jokes and memetic moments from GTLive, like hot cheese and MUUUUUUSIC MAAAAAN, were a joy to be a part of. I'll miss Matpat's awkward, chaotic energy, but the future looks bright for all the Theory channels.

So long, Matpat. Go spend some well-earned time with Steph and Ollie. o7

just finished watching matpats “goodbye internet” and cried for 25 minutes along with him. after such a journey with him, i have to say something.

thank you, mat. thank you for all these years of education and fun. thank you for all the laughs and jokes we shared. thank you for every fun fact i can tell my family and friends no matter how annoying i may seem for it. thank you for every “thats just a theory” i say, knowing people will understand me. thank you for every time i was depressed and saw one of your videos that never failed to make me laugh for the first time in a long time. thank you for helping me stop being so scared of growing up, knowing that you taught me so much about everything i could want to know. thank you for making my passion for learning real. thank you for never letting it die out. thank you for making this world so much less scary and making it make sense. thank you for being one of the only people who made me feel smart.

thank you to the rest of the crew, whos somehow kept this crazy boat going for a whopping 13 years. thank you to stephanie, whos been with mat the whole time and jumped in every so often to add insight or a joke that always made me smile.

Comparing this and the last time they were together during GTlive is very terrifying. DEAR GOD SO MANY YEARS HAVE PASSED BETWEEN THE TWO, MATT HAS A KID AND NATE IS TOURING AND HAS A RECORD LABEL. But still it feels really nice to see them together again, I’m nearly crying rn.
