Some things never change
Imagine the heartache of the demigods at Camp Half Blood whose friends left to join Kronos. Did the departed whisper goodbye? Try and convince their friends to join them? Or did those left behind wake up one morning to find the empty bed of another sibling? To see another empty spot on the bench at breakfast? No warning. No note. No need to wonder, because everyone knows where they went. Did the Hermes kids wake up one morning and realize that their cabin, the home of unclaimed demigods, felt spacious for the first time in years?
At the battle of Manhattan, how did it feel to look across enemy lines and see your sibling? A best friend? A crush? A familiar face from across the campfire?
Did Kronos’ army help you feel at home on your first day at camp? Did they carry you to the infirmary after a nasty game of capture the flag? Were they your first kiss? Did they place a steadying hand on your back as you climbed up the rock wall, making sure you were safe?
As demigods on both sides of the war drew their swords, was it like looking in a mirror? How must it have felt, to be prepared to fight and kill someone just like you?

You know what's even more gut wrenching?THERE BEING KIDS AS YOUNG AS SIX YEARS OLD In this war. And the newbies who just entered the camp Ind are months away from war (because not everyone is a percy jackson who can fight the for if war at 12 and win) who think they would be finally recognised by their parents. The trio thalia and nico got rewarded. What about the others? AND THEM HAVING TRAUMA FOR LIFE. Imagine them not knowing what the hell is going on but their brothers sisters and feeends are fighting and them getting hurt too. Imagine a kid. A LITERAL FUCKING KID WHO EAS SUPPOSED TO FRESHLY ENTER/GRADUATE FUCKING ELEMENTARY SCHOOL going to war with weapons twice their size.
Imagine these kids fighting wildly to protect their siblings and their goal of getting recognised, imagine them dying without a say.
This is why I headcanon as gruesome as it is for the Athena cabin to dwindle in numbers. Its original number was around 12 I headcanon them dropping to 9-7 members and most of the fallen are the young ones. The kids who have their whole life ahead of them. The kids whose final years and months were nothing but war. Whose innocence would be stripped away from their body because of said war.

Hades kids headcannons (with Apollo kids too and one really angsty one):
- When Hazel starts to get stressed out, like panic attack almost, she goes to Bianca and they talk through it. Nico introduced them at one point, and they had already met once prior, so they are close. (Last part I’ll explain in a later post lol)
- I think Lee and Will both share the same pain, a bit upsetting but Lee had to see more and more siblings join him and Will had to see them all leave. Nico is there for Will, and Will has processed it more and Lee feels proud of Will and his other siblings- he talks to Michael a lot.
- Frank and Hazel are still in the beginning of their relationship since they’ve had to deal with a war and Apollo’s stuff and so now I think they’re finally focusing on their relationship.
- Nico isn’t exactly emo, but he is edgy and Hazel teases him about it sometimes. Same with Will and Kayla. I mean edgy as in this sort of thing:
Hazel: Nico I swear, why is your entire closet just black clothes??
- I feel like since Bianca and Hazel have a good relationship, they’d open up more to eachother and teach eachother stuff like Bianca showing her how to use more powers and telling her how to contact Valhalla when necessary, and Hazel telling her about she and Nico and history.
- Michael and Bianca argue, a LOT. Not like, I hate you arguing but more like “I mildly dislike you”
- Hazel has met a lot of the people Percy talks about, but she doesn’t tell people that she goes down when she’s stressing although she has Hades’s approval, especially since she’s going down there specifically for Bianca.
Okay how Hazel and Bianca originally met in my AU is that when Bianca had got down there, she passed by Hazel and saw her and could sense that she was a Hades camper in the same way Nico could so they sat with eachother and Hazel let Bianca process it all and Hazel talked about her life until they knew something was off in the underworld and Bianca had to go— Hazel didn’t realize it was Bianca until when they met again, but she was happy to know her like that.
Thinking about this in Oroboros terms:
Percy is a child of the God of the sea, he destroyed the bridge,
Michael Yew drowned leaving Will (13ish maybe) to be counsellor,
Will Solace has a surfer physique despite probably never going near the water after Michael died,
Percy is a child of the God of the sea, he destroyed the bridge...

So Michael Yew is canonically a ghost.
His body was never found which means he never got a funeral.
In Ancient Greece funerals were kind of a big deal. Greeks didn't hold them just to say goodbye to their loved ones, they believed a funeral was the only way for the dead to get to Hades. No proper burial - no proper afterlife. You're stuck upstairs. Not to mention refusing to bury your dead or waiting too long to do it was extremely disrespectful to the gods. That's why Achilles dragging Hector's corpse around in the Iliad was such a horrifically wrong move on his part. Killing him was righteous revenge but parading his corpse was a terrible insult.
And Michael, the poor lad, never got a proper burial. I guess Rick never thought of the implications of that. He's haunting his siblings as we speak. Maybe Nico can send him down the Bryce Lawrence way though technically this way shouldn't be possible either. Bryce's ghost should have remained upstairs after Nico pulled it out of his body. He should have been required to be buried afterwards. But that's a debate to have some other time.
