Dragon riding would definitely be a thing. Humans could be mounted on a dragon's back as well as on the sides to maximize carrying capacity. Emergency responders would fly over rooftops in their own designated air space to reach the scene as fast as possible. The humans would be able to deal with the human sized problems, like a burning building that would collapse under a dragon's weight, or human CPR. Humans would also be brought along as an extra set of hands for technical equipment or to get equipment off the dragon and set it up, like fire hoses on fire hydrants. This practice could also be done by news reporters. They'd have special licenses to fly in their own fly zone and their humans would be the camera crew
Dragons living with Humans in the modern world
This is my new favorite fantasy. There are so many things to figure out how they would/could work in this setting
Modern Fantasy Dwarf Headcanons #2
Dwarven young are extremely well protected. Most will not leave the mountains until they are the human equivalent of ten years of age. More so, dwarven young will not be allowed out of their homes until they are the human equivalent of five. This has caused the misconception of dwarven babies being carved from stone.
Of course the parents often take it as a compliment! To dwarves comparing the child to rocks or stronger metals/gems is similar to saying their child is strong and will live a long life. Common things dwarven parents call their children are often Pebble, Stone, Precious Gem, Gold Nugget, Ore, and in some instances Coal Ember. This, of course, only makes the misconception of dwarves being carved from stone more popular.
Common nick names given to children often have to do with the parent’s craft. It is not uncommon to hear the dwarf child being called Little Pickaxe or Little Forge depending on profession. Many times the parent chooses to only refer to the child by a nickname when outside of the mountain they live in. It is an old custom carried on into the present that is meant to protect the child by making sure a stranger cannot trick them into thinking they can be trusted.
When it comes to human charges, however, the rules change. Often dwarven family will refer to the human as their middle name, a family name, or by descriptors. Though some will refer to them as metals/stones/precious gems and the like it is not as common as the former. It can be guessed with a surprising bit of accuracy that a dwarf who refers to their human(s) as metals, stones, or precious gems has known that human since their birth and has taken over most of that human’s raising since then. This also carries over to other species adopted by dwarves though humans are the most common.
It is considered bad manners to refer to someone as their actual name when introducing them to strangers unless that stranger is in a higher position than both persons. If one does not know the rank of the stranger a safe bet to go with is the dwarf’s family name/clan name with a descriptor such as ‘Dark hair of the Irontooth Clan’. Children are not to be introduced to strangers until they are firmly in their teens. This has caused quite a bit of shock to dwarves being introduced to children of other races. The most children get as introduction to a stranger is ‘my child’ or ‘my (2nd/1st/3rd/etc..) eldest/youngest’.
WARNING: Do not ask a dwarf child their name. Ever.
Modern Fantasy Headcanons #2
Vampire covens have largely shifted from the wealthy upper class adults to the lower class college kids over time. In fact a recent study has shown that vampires will specifically target college kids to change and bite. This is mostly due to the fact colleges still abide by the forgiveness of student loans if you are dead- or in this case undead. With the rise in prices and the stagnation of wages most college students jump at the opportunity. This makes it easier for the covens to get new members.
Despite the targeting of college students the coven leader will send scouts to observe the human for a series of months to see if they will fit within the coven. They will then strike at the human’s lowest moment to ensure consent. From there the coven will begin observing the human’s connections. It is not uncommon to find an entire family or friend group being bitten and absorbed into a coven. This ensures stronger coven ties and the strengthening of the coven as a whole.
Series: The Secret World Impressions
I punched that motherfucker. Then I lit him on fire. My organization sent me here to find out why the island had been lost. What no one told me was that the entire island from the woods I came through when I arrived to the seaside town were overrun. Sitting down to play The Secret World is a lot like sitting down to a game of VTM:Bloodlines or Deus Ex: Human Revolution. However, ammo isn't a concern, the model is third person instead of first, and now instead of a vampire or a cyborg, you're a gunslinging wizard. My character doesn't actually sling a gun just yet. Firemuscles chose to learn how to use fisticuffs to defend myself, fisticuffs and fire spells. I might have gone with another name, but among he other antiquated things in TSW is that you can only have a unique handle. I was going to be Nightfire, Whitefire or several other cool handles for a fiery wizard. All taken. So fuck you, RP server, fuck you and say hello to the reckless Firemuscles. The game launched into dx11 which tore my graphics card to shreds, but reverting to 9 looks just as sexy to me, and it's actually playable. But, as I was saying, island full of zombies. Zombies who are getting punched and lit on fire. The mission I chose was to look for missing persons. I found one of em alive, in bye church, where the local priest had hallowed the door- the flesh bags running after me were slain promptly upon crossing the threshold. I was glad to see that, we're dealing with monster and magic and nothing we were ever trained for. I don't need or want a mutagenic virus. Being Firemuscles is pretty cool. When you shoot a firebolt at a rotting, flesh eating monster, you get a Fire point. Your Fire points are used to make your bigger, badder cookouts happen. One has to build one's way up to a cataclysmic fireball. Same goes for punching zombies. After Firemuscles beats on theme enough, he works up a little rage meter. His other, heavier punches deal damage governed by how much "fuck you" bar he's worked up. The missions make sense, and there's enough grim and shadows to keep you on edge, even as Firemuscles. Eventually, I ran into bigger, beefier zombies- the fire station was crawling wit buff zombies with fire axes. Naturally, Firemuscles had to show them both who was bigger and badder as well as who really controlled fire. These zombies had a special attack and were harder to kill, learning how to fight them was a treat. I made my way through the town. Most if he people I went in to rescue had been turned. It was more of a mercy killing mission than a rescue, and that felt appropriate, but I kept holding of hope I'd find more survivors. I didn't. Then, I got down by the coast. There was a thing there. Humanoid, but not a man, nor do I think it ever was one. In place of an arm, it had on one side a wicked spike. I threw fire at it, and to my surprise it shot purple bolts back at me before closing the distance. So I punched that motherfucker. Then I lit him on fire.

Instructions for a walk in the woods
-Always bring a knife, never bring a gun. A hunting knife works best.
-If you go alone, you risk yourself. If you go with others, you risk them. Know your priorities
-Never check your phone, date, or time. Never contact otherpeople.
-If you get a phone call from Unknown, answer it. They will lead you to places you must see. If its from someone you know, do not answer. That is not who you think it is.
-If you hear voices, dont respond to their questions. If they tell you to get out of the woods, dont. There is no way out but through.
-Never make eye contact with other beings, living or otherwise. They are not to be trusted.
-If you see animal tracks, follow. This may lead you to something interesting. If you see Human tracks, do not follow. This person did not make it out.
-If you hear a low voice asking for help, run.
-If you see a street light with no street, do not let the light from it touch you.
-If you find bones, dont take them. Otherwise They will follow

How's the worldbuilding? Setting? Underlying theme? Am curious.
The general concept behind Narkaas is that it's an aging fantasy world that manages to prevent its own destined doom and has continued to evolve/devolve until its current form which has this dystopian steampunk/western theme. The main story properly starts as the calamity is released from her bindings and resumes her quests to bring the world to an end, except this time, the world isn`t really capable/deserving of stopping her.
The story can be a bit unfocused, but it's generally an exploration of the nuances of morality and redemption. It especially focuses on the feeling of being trapped playing a certain role and thinking that it's too late to change. Anyway, that's the general plan of what I'm trying to write. We`ll see on release whether i`ve been successful.
November Progress Devlog
Closing on about a year of development and I`m almost done with the main game.
Completed this month: -most of the last world -3 mid-boss rematches -3 new enemy types (including 1 variant of an existing enemy) -Side paths of World 4 and 5 -Started reworking the upgrade system -2 arena brawls -rewrote the Grimwood breach dialogues to give its story more of a clear theme and arc -wrote a few more cutscenes
-Lies of P, pretty good game
Goals for the coming month: -World 6 boss (probably gonna be the main game, final boss) -Endgame events -world 4-5-6 cutscenes and dialogues -hub cutscenes and dialogues
I also solidified the plans for the postgame and opted to consolidate most of the planned content into one large chapter (the foundations) The area will connect to the other levels and be available from mid-game progression but feature many progress locks that will prevent its full exploration until the player has finished the main game and its side paths.
Anyway, that's it for this month. Thanks for anyone following this. Making games takes a long time and it helps a lot to see people being invested in the project.

The fairies:
A group of self-proclaimed researchers that established themselves inside the ruins of the dragon keep. Fairies collect and gather knowledge from all around the world and provide guidance to those who need it.
Fairies are pathologically honest and will always speak their mind, but they are also very protective of the information they gather, only sharing what is essential to make their point. Fairies tend to be perceived as callous and manipulative and most people see these creatures with mistrust and superstition. Very little is known about their species and only 6 fairies have ever been observed in Narkaas.
Morgan the Sky fairy (they/them) The purple fairy is deeply introverted, resulting in very sparse appearances compared to their peers. They are both a dreamer and a cynic, preferring the refuge of fairytales and music to any kind of social interaction. They can be found in very high places, such as mountains or the top of buildings, but will only engage with people they find interesting enough. They are the first person that Lady encounters on her journey and appear to have a particular interest in her quest.
Fomore the Tears fairy (she/her) The blue fairy is known to appear before those who are dying or grieving. She is a brooding and gloomy individual, with a fascination for the tragic and morbid. She can be found most often in graveyards, especially those in proximity to water. She spends most of her time reading, dancing, and quietly enjoys the sounds of the sea and rain.
Loki the Wild Fairy (any/all) A free and untamed spirit by nature, the green fairy's appearances are common but unpredictable. Loki enjoys meeting new people and tending to their plants. They tend to get into long rambles about whatever interests them at the moment and often get distracted. Loki is a fan of any place with plants and can often be found tending to the plants of any old forest or garden.
Agni the flame fairy (she/her) The red fairy appears to those who pursue progress or change. She has a fierce and hard-working temper and is most often found near any kind of machinery, working to either build or repair experimental devices. She is kind but tough and judgemental, having little patience for fools and cowards.
Baal the Heart fairy (he/him) The yellow fairy appears to those seeking love or joy. Baal hangs around public places, offering romantic advice and fresh baked goods to those he meets. He is known as a hedonist and a tempter, luring people to indulge in self-gratifying vices. Despite his sweet and caring exterior, Baal is known to get very petty and toxic toward those who upset him.
Yami the Light fairy (they/them) By far the most recluse and elusive fairy. The grey fairy only appears to those who settle on a long and dangerous quest for forbidden knowledge. They spend most of their days meditating in dark and quiet places, away from any civilization.

Fun fact, the main character doesn`t actually carry any weapon. She analyzes the weapons of strong opponents (mid-bosses), copies their designs, and shapeshifts into them. This allows her to always be scaled to the strength of her enemies, no matter their level of tech. Very efficient.
---------------------- Anyway, here is your weekly reminder to follow the game on Gamejolt
Only 4 more until i post a character sheet of the main baddie.
The book eaters, sunyi dean
First book of the year! Loved it.

1/3/23 addendum: Here's the official summary
Out on the Yorkshire Moors lives a secret line of people for whom books are food, and who retain all of a book's content after eating it. To them, spy novels are a peppery snack; romance novels are sweet and delicious. Eating a map can help them remember destinations, and children, when they misbehave, are forced to eat dry, musty pages from dictionaries.
Devon is part of The Family, an old and reclusive clan of book eaters. Her brothers grow up feasting on stories of valor and adventure, and Devon—like all other book eater women—is raised on a carefully curated diet of fairy tales and cautionary stories.
But real life doesn't always come with happy endings, as Devon learns when her son is born with a rare and darker kind of hunger—not for books, but for human minds.
OKAY so I really enjoyed this book. (Also it has a gorgeous cover! Mm. And the endpapers are a lovely, deep red.) It gripped me and I almost skipped out on a family event because I didn't want to put it down.
Big content notes on this one. I'll throw more specific notes under the jump.
The tone overall was fairly grim. On the sliding scale of pessimism to optimism, I generally prefer my fiction more optimistic, but I still find (well-executed) books on the other end compelling. It wasn't as grim as, say The Echo Wife.
There were a few points when I had to break out the sticky tabs once again, just because I couldn't continue until I'd paused to mark that line or this moment.
More thoughts to come in a future post (which will also contain spoilers)
Content notes under the jump
Content notes: violence, murder, death, depression, sexual assault, sexual consent issues, rape culture, domestic abuse, harm to children, drug and alcohol use.

Modern Fantasy: Pets!
Tiny pet dragons that are the size of dachshund and corgi’s being lead on little leashes.
Alternatively bigger dragons the size of malamutes and pit bulls pulling the lead of their owner because they smelled some hotdogs from a pop-up stand.
Strange cross bred animals with fantastical elements. (i.e A wolf and bird hybrid having large wings, a cat and fairy hybrid)
Parrots who are completely sentient and act as a familiar to witches by choice. They can be very helpful but, also pretty snarky at the same time.
Cat familiars who have amazing patterns that match their witch/wizard owners deviation in magic. (Crystal witches who have cat familiars have crystals growing on their back.)
Cerebus like dogs who are different breeds or are a mix of different breeds. Imagine a tiny chihuahua cerebus who is fiercely protective but, they just so tiny.
OWL+CAT=OWL CAT. Observant, pretty yet goofy creatures that can fly.
Pet shops that have multiple floors where specific pets could be found. Larger ones on the bottom floor while smaller pets can be found on higher floors.

Dusk’s magic

Winter is so beautiful, but it’s ruined by being cold.
