This is important to me because when I was hospitalised, I met my best friend, who expirienced horrible trauma not different from andrew's trauma. Yeah she has a totally different personality from Andrew, but she had a lot of the same PTSD effects as he has. After 2 years of intense therapy and surrounding herself with good people she's so fucking okay. Yeah she still has problems but she's okay and she dates my other best friend and she's okay and it inspires me so much that Someday I'm gonna be okay. People can heal from their traumas and it's important to show that.
It's important to me to have hope that my mental illness isn't going to keep limiting my life. Because we find ourselves in books and I find myself in andrew.
not to go off about this again but absolutely fuck the extra content. it’s so stagnant to assume that andrew never gets better and it’s so gross of nora to insinuate that you have to slice off every part of yourself affected by trauma until there’s nothing left. sometimes trauma means you have lasting scars but they don’t have to define you - and this isn’t to say uwu andrew never has nightmares again, it’s to say that despite the nightmares; despite the memories that will never go away and despite the bad days where the mere thought of being touched makes him feel sick. despite all of this he RECOVERS. he learns to laugh when neil trips over his own feet, learns to smile to himself when nicky calls and he realised he missed him, learns that on the good days he can hug renee goodbye and it’s good. it’s safe.
to suggest that because he’s been through trauma after trauma he’s never going to recover and change is so harmful; to suggest that he never learns to smile, to laugh, to love. to do things he enjoys just because he wants to, to express to neil that he loves him because neither of them ever thought they’d get the chance. no one is saying that people can’t have healthy and fulfilling relationships without I love you’s and marriage but if anyone deserves to have that, it’s andrew and neil.
let them recover.
I’m obsessed with them more than Kevin Day is obsessed with exy.
Finished All for the Game for the first time and all I have to say is, Allison Reynolds please just give me a chance
I visited USC recently and am sad to report that Jeremy Knox was nowhere to be found 😔

I CAN NOT WAIT TO READ THIS GODDAMN BOOK OML
I feel like not enough people talk about this -
Jean's french accent is probably still so fucking strong. I have a french friend and she said that their accent is so deep rooted it is almost impossible not to have it, and Jean was 14 when he was transferred to USA, meaning he still spoke French the majority of his life, so Jeremy hearing his name from Jean, his crush, his TYPE, with a fucking french accent must have been disarming. I would MELT right there and then if I were Jeremy.

HOLY SHIT IMFG OMG WERE GETTING MORE?!
HOLY SHIT IMFG OMG WERE GETTING MORE?!
one thing about me is that i will NEVER shit on nora's writing. like everyone bitching and moaning abt aftg having bad writing shut the fuck upppp take ur hater agenda elsewhere bc all i had to do was read everything post ch 11 of trk and that's what really cemented it for me. aftg's writing style may be unconventional (and i do fully believe this is bc of neil's narration NOT nora's writing go read the ec and tsc) but everything post ch 11 of trk is written SO well like the emotions are all so raw and real and it's such a good portrayal of grief and guilt and anger all from the pov of a slightly emotionally unavailable traumatised kid (neil IS still a kid he's fucking eighteen years old) who doesn't know how to process what he's just seen and been involved in. like the conversation between andrew and neil in ch 12 hurt me on so many levels. the "i told you once before didn't i? i don't feel anything." "anymore" was my last straw. anyway STOP dragging nora's writing just because it isn't "conventional" just read tsc she writes emotions and different characters with so much depth and if u don't like neil's narration just read jean's it is NOT the writing style. i DIGRESS.
ok so i made a post abt andrew's "misogyny" a while ago and if i'm being honest that was sort of a joke. yes i know u can be misogynistic while having female friends. obviously. i didn't think people would take it that seriously. if i'm being completely serious about this, i still don't think i would say andrew's a misogynist. it just isn't the right word. i do think he has a wariness of women the same way neil has an ingrained wariness of older men, and that is borne out of the emotional trauma he carries from tilda and cass. still, i don't think he dislikes people in particular because of gender or race or anything like that. as ppl said in the tags, andrew is very much an equal opportunity hater. i think the bone i'm trying to pick here is the wording. i don't think andrew hates women, i think he has an ingrained mistrust and wariness of them developed from the emotionally scarring relationships he's had w women (esp mother figures) in the past, but that doesn't equate to misogyny imo. he doesn't treat them any worse or better than anyone else. i also don't want to tell anyone what to think r.e. andrew's character. y'all can feel free to agree/disagree but just do it respectfully it's really not that hard. i don't think saying that he isn't a misogynist robs him of any depth as a character, and i'm not saying he's even a good person, i just don't like the connotations of that statement and i think there's a lot more nuance there than the simple statement "andrew is a misogynist" doesn't cover, and i think that does rob andrew's character of a lot of depth. take from this what you will, but this is just my personal opinion and i'm tired of reading ppl saying my first post is oversimplifying or glazing like it was in jest. this is me being serious.
~ February's Books Reviewed ~
This month could not quite live up to the joy that was January's in terms of books. I think, especially after ending on Blake's Atlas Series, I was a little in shock and mourning over what I could possibly read next! As a result, I started the month re-reading an old favourite, and then moved on to making my way through some of my mother's old books that I borrowed when I last visited. I enjoyed this in the sense that it broadened my reading habits, however it did mean that my general ranking books was lower this month.
All For The Game Series by Nora Sakavic
(269 & 338 & 431 pages)
Now, I understand these books are not good. They're problematic in several ways, probably in more ways than I realise. However, I unapologetically love them. The found family is everything, the representation (even though it is far from accurate) of demisexuality and mental health struggles make me emotional at points and this trilogy will remain one of my constant comfort reads. In terms of warnings, people should know that there are many inaccuracies and slightly problematic choices; it is also graphic and descriptive of torture and self harm. However, the characters and their relationships, with themselves and their relationships is beautiful, and as such I will always choose to come back to this trilogy when I want a cosy comforting read.
I gave this trilogy 5 stars ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐
Memoirs of a Geisha by Arthur Golden
(428 pages)
I was excited to read this book as it is a classic that has been on my list for a while, but unfortunately I'd ultimately describe myself as underwhelmed by it. I know it was fairly recently in the news for its cultural inaccuracies anyway, but that combined with the fairly graphic sexual scenes did make me rather uncomfortable. Aside from that, I just found it a little dull and be perfectly honest. I'm glad I read it, but I cannot see myself ever re-reading it either.
I gave this book 2.5 stars ⭐ ⭐ 🌗
The Time Travelers Wife by Audrey Niffenegger
(518 pages)
This was another book that has been on my list for a while, especially since I've heard people claiming they absolutely loved it, however, again it was far from the best book I've read recently. The concept was extremely interesting and the style and structure was totally not what I was expecting. The age gap and time jumping made some sections a bit odd or confusing or uncomfortable; and the ending was honestly a little anticlimactic. That being said, it was definitely not a bad book, and I did enjoy parts of it, I just wasn't blown away.
I gave this book 3.5 stars ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ 🌗
The Forgotten Garden by Kate Morton
(646 pages)
I was surprised by how much I enjoyed this book as I picked it up on a bit of a whim. Essentially, it was a mystery novel and despite life getting a little busy while reading this, it kept me hooked and coming back to it without any long breaks. There were certainly parts that were slow and also bits that were a bit clunky, but overall I found this a satisfying and very gentle read.
I gave this book 4 stars ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐
Captain Corelli's Mandolin by Louis de Bernières
(435 pages)
Amazingly descriptive, but not very engaging. I'm glad I managed to read it since it is another classic one, however there were times when I honestly wasn't sure I'd finish it. While reading it I was sure it was only going to get two stars, however it picked up significantly at the end so pulled itself up. I will say that it was really interesting reading about this period of time (first half of the 20th century) from the Greek and Italian perspective as I feel that is a rather understudied section of history.
I gave this book 3 stars ⭐ ⭐ ⭐
One Day by David Nicholls
(435 pages)
I could forgive the dull storyline if it weren't for the fact the protagonists were so incredibly awful. It's all well and good having flawed characters, but when they're bad enough that I find myself actively rooting against then it's usually not a good sign. I did enjoy the symbolism of the end however, even if it was highly predictable.
I gave this book 2 stars ⭐ ⭐
She should not have to say #5, the thing I absolutely hate in this fandom is how some “fans” treat Nora. It’s bullshit. Nora, I support you and I love your books and I’m glad you’re back.
not-so-fun facts #6 aka: normally I would have trimmed out at least half of these to save face, but we're attempting to end the year with a bit of honesty.
1 TY for tolerating the derail into Seth territory this last week. am trying to get together potential things for RC, which means everything I reject along the way has to go somewhere. none of it is gonna be super polished, sorry. also sorry (not sorry) in advance for what actually makes the cut.
2 smth smth the boy who couldn't live no matter what vs the boy I couldn't kill in the end, seth v jean edition
3 if the question is ever NORA WHY the answer is either a) alcohol or b) I crave violence. almost always c) both
4 the file of deleted words/scenes from TSC is now 46,900+ words long :weary: There are so many things I want to say about TSC but I feel I've already said too much. I do wanna say that writing Kevin & Neil from Jean's point of view is supremely satisfying though.
5 for the record I am so sorry to the writers & artists who've kept these kids alive in my self-imposed exile. Please do not give up on your versions of them just because I'm intruding again out of nowhere. I'm here for me, for my own peace of mind, because recent events have me hinging too much of my sanity on Jean's survival. We can coexist, I hope, I believe---there is plenty of room for all of us :(
6 might be a lil more stressed about this book than I thought I was. btwn that & a few months of 3hrs sleep/night I managed to make christmas eve very uncomfortable for the fam w a poorly-timed breakdown. on the bright side am drinking a lil less this week until everything evens out again. am still so, so tired.
7 have a safe & happy holiday weekend, lovies <3 keep warm, smooch your pets, and check in on your friends & yourselves. one day at a time we'll get through this; one day at a time we'll get where we need to go.
8 2024 please be kind to us
THIS
can y'all (*Twitter ppl*) fucking quit it with the "okay Nora, you have no say about this" whenever she says something you don't like it's so embarrassing fr. not to mention Nora is literally ALWAYS saying "but don't let this change your perception of things!" or "feel free to hc them the way you like" grow up a little please?
“I just remember this is my last year on social media and I’m golden”
I am mad at every person who has been an asshole to Nora, I’ve started blocking people who are. Nora’s great AFTG is her book and they are her characters, I’m just glad she decided to share them with us
Thank you Nora!!!!
Everybody say ‘Thank you Andreil’ for never hurting each other.
can you believe that. i’m not talking about the racquet hit or the eden’s drugging fiasco. i’m saying they never hurt the mind and the heart. and even–the hit to the stomach was when they literally had never met. and the drugging was not about Neil; it was all about Andrew. there was no relationship whatsoever even formed. there was no choking incident like with Kevin.
i’m saying there was never any of the romance tropes used to create angst. no love triangle. no cheating. no bet. no manipulation. no backstab. no running away. no miscommunication. no lies.
think about all the couples you’ve ever read or watched. the best and the worst. the mainstream and the niche. think about it.
they had all the knives. all the opportunities. but not a single time did they take advantage, in any way. no physical, emotional, psychological, or sexual violence & abuse, never ever.
do you know how comforting that is? how safe it makes me feel? because that means that through them, I was never hurt. they didn’t cause me any torment. they were not the reason I cried for 2 weeks straight every single day after I finished the series; the world they live in did.
and by the way. across 3 books, they did not find it in themselves to hurt one another. it was not necessary to keep things interesting. let me repeat that: it was unnecessary to the plot to add violence within their relationship.
and that is the skill Nora Sakavic possesses. that is the power she holds. that’s what makes her the best, the favorite, the beloved, the mastermind, the poet, the one true author.
so I say thank you, Andreil.
Thank you, Miss Sakavic.
