The amount of engineering teachers I've had that hate OSHA has been ubsard because of the fact they don't want to rewrite construction plans to "waste" time or resources to stop "stupid idiots" from dying. Like they don't get OSHA is the government agency looking out for what they should: your safety. One "I could do it" move could have you fall into a pit and break your legs or die because you tried to stand on a strong looking beam. Not taking the "long route" to get to where you need to build could have you get crushed by the non-dangerous looking ceiling that falls down on you. Not "over-building" a certain part of the building could cause it to all collapse under you when it looked super strong.

Furthermore, they don't get one person acting "stupid" could kill or injure many others. One person just staying precariously on a ladder for 30 seconds holding something heavy could fall and crush 15 others. Plus, their corporate employer without the regulations put on them by OSHA could easily just decide to force them into "stupid actions" for the sake of profit causing them to get killed.

OSHA's safety regulations are written in blood not useless government bureaucracy. It's laws are written to stop worker exploitation and to stop workers from overestimating what's safe. It's laws are to make sure everyone is safe not just the "smart" ones. Having to rewrite construction plans to be slower or more expensive for safety reasons may not be fun but not doing so kills innocent people.

The other thing is that there can be an attitude of thinking that you know better than OSHA. You’ve been doing this work for years without deadly injury, clearly you know what you’re doing. And of course there’s the whole “well it’s safe enough for my tolerance” bit, which mixes with the mentality of safety just being something that slows down work. There’s a whole tangle of factors that make this a really tricky thing to change, especially if you don’t get to people while they’re still new to the industry.

I Know A Company That Does Both These Things And No Surprise, When You Shop There, The Employees Are

I know a company that does both these things and no surprise, when you shop there, the employees are always miserable and agitated. You should kill your managers in such situations imo. The only reason I receive treatment slightly above this is i'm lucky enough to have managers who are also bothered by these business practices. The water one is especially bad if you have heat intolerance, I was so sick regularly before I switched to a department with more leniency regarding water.

Depending on where you live these things may violate labor laws though so if you're in the same situation look into it. However in my experience any labor law violations happen without consequence regardless

Question for those watching The Acolyte:

Do y'all think Osha is forklift certified?

This is one of my favorites lines in a piece of fiction. Ever. Grrm is intentionally vague when it comes to religion, but I think this line developed "the old gods" more than all of Jon's time with the free folk, more than all of Bran's time inside that cave. It feels so real... it captures precisely how I feel about mine own gods. The art is beautiful. Osha and Rickon deserve more art.

Who do you think send the winds, if not the gods?

Osha's Agency in The Acolyte

One of the most baffling (good faith) criticisms of The Acolyte is that Osha doesn't have agency in the story; that she only ever takes one real decision in the Finale to commit murder.

And honestly, I don't buy it. Osha took plenty of active decisions that revealed her character and motivations, and which pushed the plot forward.

Here's a quick list (spoilers):

Osha's Agency In The Acolyte

Episode 1: Lost/Found

Osha chooses to save the life of the criminal before going into the escape pod (it's a "save the cat" moment to establish she's a kind person). This directly results in her being stranded on the ice planet, and in her prolonged unconsciousness communing with Mae through the Force for the first time.

Episode 2: Revenge/Justice

Osha decides to disobey Sol's instructions to stay out of sight, and instead reveals herself to Mae. This revelation causes Mae to betray The Stranger in Episode 4.

Also, Osha decides to shoot Mae, indicating that part of her motivation is her inability to forgive when she's been wronged. This character trait has direct consequences in Episodes 5 (affecting Mae) and 8 (affecting Sol).

Episode 3: Destiny

Child Osha opts to reveal herself to the Jedi at the ceremony rather than remain hidden. This revelation enflames tensions as the witches are caught in a lie.

She also chooses to disobey both Mae and Mother Aniseya and take the Force test honestly.

She finally chooses to leave her community and go with the Jedi (before the fire).

Episode 5: Night

Osha convinces Yord to return to the battle against The Stranger, and even devises a way to defeat The Stranger by using Pip's bright lights to attract the umbramoths.

This choice leads to Yord's death, but it also ends the battle against The Stranger.

Osha again refuses to forgive Mae and tries to arrest her. This leads to Osha's defeat, and forces Mae to change her immediate plans and impersonate Osha.

Episode 6: Teach/Corrupt

Osha chooses to wear the cortosis helmet and experience sensory deprivation like Qimir does. This leads to her having a premonition of Sol dying on Brendok at Mae's hand, which spurs her and Qimir to leave together.

Episode 8: The Acolyte

After finally learning the truth that Sol lied to her for years and was responsible for Mother Aniseya's death, Osha chooses to commit murder.

I've never seen a character have more hidden tiger energy than Qimir.

He goes from hiding and looking approachable to predator instincts in seconds.

Meanwhile, Osha just looks like a doe caught in his gaze.
