dear fellow non-Black queers,

please remember: stonewall was a riot.

it was 5 days of violent demonstrations against the police led by Black queer and trans people.

now, we need to join the fight against racially motivated police violence.

lgbt+ people, we are obligated to stand with #Blacklivesmatter.

if you don’t support the current riots, don’t bother celebrating pride either.

So, I've seen this comic all over my feed

So, I've Seen This Comic All Over My Feed

People are saying stuff like "Yay! Look at Damian support the community" and "Damian says support gay rights!".

That is not what this panel shows.

This panel is Damian showing off his weapons that he intends to use to break up pride (which he assumes is a riot like Stonewall) and Kon saying "Pride isn't a protest, it's a party!"

Is this fiction? Yes but the views expressed by our heros reflects the views of the author and society at large.

The views shown in this are: Disruptive demonstration and protest is bad. The LGBTQ+ community doesn't need to fight for rights.

In an era where trans rights are being trampled on and gay marriage is still being threatened, this complacency is dangerous.

In the last few years, there has been legislation that makes parent with trans kids child abusers (Texas) and legislation where even speaking about being gay/helping gay youth isn't allowed(Don't Say Gay Bill). With the overturning of Roe v Wade, other rights, like the right to gay marriage are threatens (as both a protected under Privacy Laws and one being overturned can hurt them all). This isn't even to mention social repercussions and stigma around being part of the community. Trans people (especially black trans people) are still being killed at high rates. Gay people are still hate-crimed and protested against. Hell, I live in the Midwest and I'm still closeted to my family and community because of bigotry.

Being part of the community is still dangerous. Pride may be a celebration of our queerness but it also remains a protest, a way for us to say "We're here and we're queer and your bigotry ain't getting rid of us!"

The opinions of our heroes shows us the attitude of our society and, while our society seems to think our fight should be over, we know that we still have a long way to go.

do not scroll past this!!!

There is currently an open consultation about the Gender Recognition Act in Scotland, it is currently only concerned with binary trans stuff but it is asking for public opinion and this is a good place for binary and non binary trans people alike to make our voices heard, this could change everything and make things infinitely easier for the trans community in Scotland

stonewall is currently talking about this and has a page where you can find information about this and a link to the public consultation: here

please reblog even if this doesn’t fit with the theme of your blog, as an nb person myself I really want to get the word out about this, this could be the beginning to nb people being legally recognised in Scotland the public consultation closes on the 17th of March so make sure to get the word out and give the Scottish government your opinions through this consultation before then!

edit: I just found out this public consultation is not exclusive to those living in Scotland and have changed the title of this post accordingly

reblogging bc there’s only a couple of days left on this, this is the last chance we’ve got ppl

This is for anybody, anywhere on earth 🌎

The scottish government is asking anyone, scottish or not, to tell them a little about how we want gender recognition to be handled better! Stonewall Scotland even has tips on what to write, it's just 5 questions & it'd be super helpfull, it would influence the actual laws! :3

The deadline is the 17th of march! <3

This post is a thank you to everyone who stood up and fought for LGBTQ+ rights during the movement, and moment of respect for all lives lost in the process. We did it, we’re here, and we aren’t going anywhere anytime soon.

Share Your Pride day 28: A day for remembering Stonewall

I took U.S. History this past year and finally got to actually cover the Stonewall riots in class. It’s amazing how many civil rights movements starts with police brutality and a few people who are just sick and tired of being pushed around.
