Summary:

“No, no, it’s alright. Admittedly, I could try more to reach out to him or find him, but…” Wanda sighed, grabbing her key ring and reaching to unlock the door. There was a tiny picture frame attached to her keyring, and it made her pause. It was a picture of her and Pietro, with Vision in the background holding Nathaniel, Clint’s youngest son, in confusion. She smiled as she unlocked the door and let the both of them inside.

Vision followed her inside, carefully slipping his shoes off as the door shut behind them. She slipped off her jacket, hanging it up on the front door, a hook placed nicely over the peephole for her jacket. She slipped her shoes off and felt any remaining tension slip away as Vision hugged her, a smile falling into place as she hugged him back.

It almost felt like an assurance that she still had Vision.

--- Beginning of Fic --

Wanda smiled a soft smile as Vision offered his hand towards her. There was music playing in the background, a restaurant that had an area for dancing for teens or couples on a date. She didn’t know the song that was playing, but Vision seemed to recognize it enough. There was a smirk forming on his expression.

“Dance with me?” Vision asked, a smile on his illusioned face. He never felt the need to hide from her, but they were easily overlooked when Vision hid himself when they were out on dates. The one time that he hadn’t… they were gawked at and watched with distrustful eyes, so she understood his need for it.

Didn’t mean that they would need it later, when they were back at her apartment… Hopefully back at her apartment that night.

“Okay, let’s dance.” Wanda smiled brighter, letting Vision pull her from their table and towards the dance floor near the back of the restaurant. Vision spun her, which startled a laugh out of her as she ended up facing him, one hand resting on his upper arm, and the other held gently by his own hand. His free hand rested on her waist as he sheepishly smiled at her. “How long have you been waiting for that one?” She asked.

“Admittedly, a little while.” Vision huffed, spinning her and taking a side step and twirling the two of them. Wanda smiled and rested her head on his chest, letting him direct their movements. She wasn’t much of a dancer herself, but Vision seemed to love pulling her into small dances, getting her used to dancing to at least a few dances that he knew off the top of his head.

She giggled lightly, the smile on her face never once slipping even a fraction.

There was something about indulging a partner in one of their hobbies, like he did with her cooking. She could handle dancing for the most of an hour, because seeing him so happy made her glow with pride. Almost literally, she noted when a soft red mist sparked off her right hand. She was quick to catch that small burst of power that rushed through her.

“What are your plans tonight?” Wanda asked, lightly swinging their hands in between them. Their date had gone wonderfully, and Wanda didn’t want the night to end, not yet, when there was still so much time that Wanda wanted to spend with Vision. Their meetups and dates were so far apart that some days, it felt like the separation would kill her; So they’d taken a walk through a nearby park.

“I…” Vision paused, thinking to himself as they walked. Wanda wasn’t looking at him, more towards the ground, so she couldn’t see his expression. “I was wondering if you would like to have me over.” Wanda’s head snapped up quickly, hope in her eyes.

“I would love nothing more.” She would love to hear from her brother more than once a month, but that was more her and her brother’s issue. She smiled brightly at him, and she could see Vision relax. He brought their hands up, kissing her knuckle with a mischievous smile before letting them drop again. Wanda picked up on swinging them back and forth once more.

“I was hoping you’d say that.” Vision told her truthfully. “I… wanted to talk with you about something important.” Wanda felt a rush of nerves, but knew that with Vision it could only be about clarifying something. That was something she had learned early on in their relationship, which had been a breath of fresh air.

“Alright.” She smiled at him reassuringly. They walked the ten minute walk back towards her apartment in easy silence. The fresh air doing much to clear any extra nerves Wanda might have been feeling, a gentle breeze pushing away any extra heat that was still permeating the air from the recent heat wave.

“Have you heard from your brother recently?” Vision asked her as they reached the apartment building.

“No, not recently.” Wanda sighed, a frown appearing on her face momentarily. Their shared birthday was approaching and it was making her anxious that she’d barely heard from her brother in the last year, much less seen him. And now it was possible that she would experience her birthday without her brother around.

“I’m… sorry, I thought he would have reached out to you?” Vision seemed confused, and Wanda smiled, though she knew it looked more like a grimace. “I’m sorry to have brought that up.”

She felt herself relax as she passed through the door.

Call her crazy, but she felt safer in her home than being just outside of it or anywhere else. Everywhere else she felt watched and she felt judged.

He took his own jacket off, hanging it up on the matching hook next to the one holding Wanda’s jacket.

“Living room?” Wanda asked, tilting her head as she watched Vision’s reactions. He tilted his head and nodded.

“Wherever is most comfortable.” His voice was smooth, no hints at all to any nervousness.

“I mean, my room is the most comfortable, but that might lead to some things that I don’t think you were aiming for.” Wanda tried for a light hearted comment, amusement running through her at the red that appeared on Vision’s illusioned face.

“Not… Not tonight, Wanda. Maybe.” Wanda perked up at Vision’s words, eyes lighting up almost playfully. “Shall we sit down and talk?”

“Would you like some water? Even if you aren’t thirsty now, I know that when I get nervous or I need something to just do, having water helps.” Wanda offered, already making her way towards the cupboard with her glasses. She preferred drinking water during conversations, to keep up her hydration, otherwise she forgot. Natasha and Clint had seemed amused by the embarrassed admission Wanda had told them, but it did help her quite a bit.

“Sure, that sounds like a good idea.” Vision nodded, and so Wanda brought down two glasses, and used a bit of her enhancement to open the fridge and grab the pitcher full of water. Another thing she did was add fresh fruit, in some way, to her water to give it a little flavor.

“Any ice?”

“No, thank you, Wanda.” Vision sounded amused, while Wanda felt a little bit embarrassed. She hadn’t had anyone over in nearly three months, which was the last time she’d seen Natasha, who’d come to see how she was. She filled the two glasses before sending the pitcher back into the fridge, and closing it. The red died down around her as she picked up the two cups and walked towards the living room, where Vision was sitting comfortably on the couch.

Wanda wished that he would stay, just so that she could forever have him home with her. She quite liked the image of him being on the couch so comfortably, and wanted more moments like that. She stepped around the couch, setting both cups on the coffee table, and sat down next to Vision. There was still enough space between them to be comfortable but not awkward. If this was a serious discussion, she couldn’t really be pressed against his side like he was about to disappear on her.

“Now, I… I feel terrible during the time that we are not with one another.” Vision started, coughing a little awkwardly when his words processed through his own mind.

“I do as well,” Wanda admitted. “I hate that you won’t stay, even if it’s for my protection.” Wanda rolled her eyes. She was very much capable and able to protect herself, however Vision was as protective of her as she was of him. Her stint of being in The Raft had only made that stronger for the android, however. Which was fair, she’d been pretty messed up after she’d been saved. Clint nearly went mental when he saw the burns from the shock collar.

She still hadn’t told Pietro about that.

“I’m beginning to also regret my reasoning.” Vision admitted, sighing a little as he fidgeted a little. It was such a human thing to see from someone who was normally much more self assured. He literally had the internet in his mind, could search up anything with a tilt of his head, he was typically always right.

But he also underestimated people and humanity in small and little ways… and sometimes in massive ways.

“You’ll stay?” Wanda processed what he’d said, eyes lighting up with hope as she moved to sit a bit straighter and turned to face him a bit more properly.

“I’m staying, if you’ll have me.” Vision told her, a smile on his face. Wanda felt ecstatic.

“Of course I will, though I only have the one room…” She smiled a little as Vision flushed a little once more. That was something that he struggled with, people being in bed together before they’re married, even if it was only sleeping. He had adopted a more Christian mindset to religion, even if he was not human.

“That is fine, because that brings up the next thing I wanted to mention, or talk about…” Vision seemed a little embarrassed, and found himself surprised that he was still illusioned, which he promptly changed. She smiled as he looked much more comfortable. “I would like to marry you, Wanda Maximoff.” Wanda felt surprise rush through her, eyes widening as she froze.

“Really?” Wanda asked, “You’re serious?”

“Of course I am.” Vision told her, moving to sit more firmly in front of her, reaching out carefully and grabbing her hands in his own. “I am in love with you, Wanda Maximoff. I love you, and I forever will, nothing will ever change that, and my love only grows stronger every moment that I am with you.” His voice was nothing but honesty. “I want to marry you, but only if you want to marry me.”

“Vision, I would love nothing more than to marry you.” Wanda told him, tears welling up in her eyes. His expression softened, and he gently pulled her towards him, wrapping his arms around her as she wrapped hers around him.

They curled up on the couch a little, with Vision letting Wanda use him as a pillow. It was quiet for a while. Wanda processing that Vision wanted to marry her, something that she had once thought she never would have wanted, but now she couldn’t imagine anything else…

Well…

“What about… having kids?” Wanda asked quietly, her eyes locked on a corner of the room as Vision tensed a little beneath her. “After we’re married or something, or when we feel that we are ready for kids… if that’s even possible.” Wanda didn’t even know if Vision could have children. He was an android, which means that he doesn’t have DNA… but the Dr. Cho… Helen Cho, had a machine that made genetics which is what had created Vision…

Was it possible?

“I would love to one day have children with you,” Vision murmured, kissing her temple. “Whether that be now, in one year, five or even ten.” He told her, and Wanda felt like she wanted to cry for an entirely different reason now. She hid her face against his chest, feeling safe as Vision kept his arms wrapped around.

“Bed? You’ll stay tonight right?” She knew that he was staying elsewhere, typically, and had things he’d want to go get… but that didn’t need to be right now, did it?

“Of course.” Vision told her, rubbing her back gently.

They didn’t move for a while, but eventually, Wanda and Vision did get up, with Wanda pouting at the water sitting on the coffee table. Their discussion had been too quick, and neither of them had actually tried to drink any water. They agreed too quickly on topics that most would need lengthy discussions on. She put both glasses in the fridge before both Vision and Wanda made it into the bedroom, just off from the living room and across a small hall to the bathroom.

She did have some clothes for him, since there were occasional nights in the last two, nearly three, years that Vision had stayed over. He’d needed something to sleep in and wear the next day.

They both changed quickly, and curled up in bed, with Vision wrapping his arms around her in a way that felt protective.

Coffee Shops were their thing. They’d meet up in whatever town they’d decided to meet up in, and then they would go and try every coffee shop there was in the area. Wanda had found peace in that routine with her brother, because she was technically on the run and he was technically working for the United States Government.

Which was why she was a little confused when Pietro didn’t show up to their scheduled meeting, nor did he message her before or even after their scheduled meeting time. Normally he told her when he wouldn’t be able to make it, or apologized if he was late and unable to get to her.

She tried not to let it bother her as she walked into one of the Coffee shops, it would be her last time getting a coffee for the foreseeable future… something she’d been planning to tell her brother. She sighed, ordering a simple hot chocolate with a sad smile.

“Break up or did you get stood up?” Wanda blinked as the barista engaged her in small talk. She wasn’t quite prepared for small talk, as normally barista’s at the coffee shops she’d visit ignored her.

They much preferred talking to her brother.

“Was supposed to be meeting my twin, but he didn’t show. No message either.” Wanda answered, “Shame since I was going to tell him I was pregnant.” The Barista’s eyes widened, which was followed by a wince.

“Oh, congratulations, recent news?” She asked. “I could never fathom standing my twin up, oh I would never hear the end of it, and the revenge is always worse.” She huffed, rolling her eyes with a fond smile.

“Yeah, recent news, very recent.” Wanda nodded. “And my brother travels a lot for work.” The Barista, Mary, nodded. “But my fiance and I are excited to welcome our first.” Wanda added when it felt a little awkward and sad.

“Ah, my younger brother travels a lot for work too.” Mary nodded, smiling when a co-worker came up from the back with Wanda’s drink. “There you go, and I hope you have a lovely day and that the next nine months and the years that follow treat you well.” Mary smiled, and Wanda flushed lightly.

“Thank you, and I hope your shifts are easy.” Wanda responded. As she turned to find a seat, she thought she saw a bit of respect in the woman’s eyes. Wanda chose a spot next to a window, wincing when she saw the start of rain against the glass, and pulled out a book to read while she sipped her hot chocolate.

“I cannot believe you are so lazy that you would have your co-workers do your job for you.” Wanda paused, tilting her head as she turned and saw an older man berating Mary. Irritation rushed through her, as Mary had been nothing but kind to her. “You can get up. And do your job.”

“Sir, there may be reasons, which you are not privy to, as to why she doesn’t get up.” Wanda interrupted from her seat. Wanda could hear the irritation in her voice as she glared at the man. “She is perfectly capable of taking your order, and it’s clear her co-workers are perfectly fine with making and bringing the drink to the front. Lose the disrespect.” She continued. She was ignoring the eyes of just about everyone in the little coffee shop staring at her.

“You need to mind your own business little girl. And she needs to do her job.” Wanda would have been just fine in going to her book, but the man had been rude, had been disrespectful, and then called her a little girl. She was just a tad bit pissed off. She took a deep breath, making sure she had her control over her powers before she glared at the man once more.

“You need to treat people better, because you do not know why she isn’t getting up, or why she isn’t standing. You are not entitled to her health information just because you are offended that she isn’t standing and causing more harm to herself.” Wanda informed him, she took a drink of her Hot Chocolate, glaring at the man when he opened his mouth to interrupt her. “Treat her with respect, because she has to deal with people like you who are rude and entitled, and she is still able to smile and greet every customer. You could learn a few things from her.”

Wanda kept her eyes on the man, who looked humiliated and pissed off at her call out, while he ordered his drink and sandwich. He didn’t stay after he got his order, and instead turned and hightailed it out of the shop.

“Thank you,” Wanda, who’d turned back to her book after the man had made for the door, glanced up and found Mary smiling at her.

“Of course. I cannot stand people who act like they are entitled to everyone’s personal information.” Wanda answered with a shrug, she took another drink of her hot chocolate, smiling as it was now at the perfect temperature and she could read comfortably.

“But still, thank you, not many people would have stood up for service workers, much less me.” She shrugged. “Being lesbian seems to really offend people.” There was a moment of hesitance and fear in her eyes when she said that. Wanda only shrugged.

“To each their own preference,” Wanda shrugged, “I’ve had my own fair share of partners. Though the men of society are annoyed that I’m dating an android.” She shrugged, a smile on her face at the look of bewilderment on Mary’s face.

“Full of surprises, aren’t you.” Wanda only smiled at her before turning back to her book.

Wanda returned to the cafe nearly a week later, Vision illusioned beside her. She was pleased to find that Mary was working once more, eyes lighting up as they walked in. Mary herself seemed pleased that Wanda had returned, a smile as she waved.

“Hey, how are you? This must be the fiance!” Mary exclaimed excitedly.

“Yes, this is Vision.” Wanda introduced, “Oh, and I’m Wanda.” She smiled as they came to a stop, she felt relaxed in the rainy atmosphere that the cafe was only enhancing with its home-y feel.

“And I’m Mary, though my name plate takes the fun out of introducing myself, what can I get for you today?”

“A Hot Chocolate, a dark chocolate and mint brownie and a BLT sandwich for me.” Wanda answered, she glanced towards Vision who hummed, a thoughtful look on his face. He looked contemplative as he stared at the menu, eyes darting around slightly.

“An Almond and Honey Latte and a BLT sandwich for me, as well, please.” Vision bowed his head lightly. Mary hummed as she programmed the orders into the register, humming lightly. There was a song that was stuck in her head, Wanda got the feeling that it was catchy with a melody that bounced around.

“Okay, and that’ll be twelve o’ five.” She brightened. Wanda pulled out her card, inserting it and paying for their order. “That’ll be out in just a couple minutes. Now, I have a question.” Wanda chuckled lightly as she nodded. “Are you really an android?” Mary asked, eyes wide. “And it’s actually possible for you to eat?”

“Yes, and yes.” Vision chuckled, “I am able to illusion myself to make it easier to interact with others, but I’m actually, unfortunately, well known.” Vision added. Wanda heard the door open behind them, and the two moved to stand off to the side for whoever had to order.

“Wanda Maximoff.” She felt herself tense, eyes widening a bit. She turned and found an officer, very clearly an officer, standing in the doorway. Beside him was the man from the week prior, who looked smug.

“Yes?” She asked, her arm wrapped around Vision’s as he tensed, already preparing for the inevitable argument that was going to be happening. “Can I help you with something?”

“This man was able to identify you from a photo lineup, and he claims you threatened his life.” The man in question was looking smug. There was a thinly veiled hatred in his eyes as well, and Wanda wondered if he had done any research on her, though he didn’t seem like the type.

“Uh, no,” Mary spoke up before Wanda could. “He’s lying. I was the cashier that day, and we have working cameras that the footage is always backed up and saved. We have footage from the day the camera’s were put in.” She explained, her hand raised slightly.

The man looked far less smug than before Mary had started talking.

“You have the footage? All footage saved?” The officer looked a little surprised, “You caught her threatening his life?” He looked excited, and Wanda wondered just how high the bounty was on her way. Was he expecting a big raise? Must have had plans for it all ready, Wanda thought mulishly.

“She didn’t threaten his life. She educated him that just because I could not stand didn’t mean that I couldn’t do my job. And that he needed to be less entitled and learn to be respectful. I can ask my manager to get that for you?” Mary asked, and the officer’s face soured lightly.

“Please.” Mary grabbed her phone, sending off a text to the manager, humming lightly as a coworker came to the front with Wanda and Vision’s order. Wanda felt her stomach growl lightly, though it was near inaudible.

“Is everything okay, Mary?” He asked, eyes darting between the obvious standoff and Mary.

“Oh, hey Brady, yeah everything's fine. Just the entitled jerk from last week. He’s trying to get Wanda arrested.” Mary smiled at him, “Do you know if Eliza was checking messages today?”

“Uh, she will probably soon, why? Did you need a message passed to her?”

“Yeah, can you get her to get the footage from last week? Monday, probably around… seven? I think the exchange happened?” Mary asked, and Wanda was surprised that Mary was able to remember the exact details of the exchange.

“Sure thing.” ‘Brady’ dipped back into the back, set on a mission to get the manager, while Mary turned back and smiled at the two by the door. Wanda took a glance at the man, who was paling by the second, and smiled a little. She liked when entitled people got their comeuppance.

“Even if she is innocent in this exchange, I will still have to arrest her. She’s a terrorist.” The officer snarked, giving a glare at Mary. “Just because she’s your friend doesn’t cancel out that she’s dangerous. I still have a job to do.”

“Actually, if I may, Wanda was cleared of all charges, thanks to Mr. Stark, and as long as she doesn’t do anything illegal, she is in fact safe from being arrested.” Vision spoke up, Wanda glanced towards him, and frowned lightly. She knew that Stark had cleared her of any crimes, and made sure that she could be free to just live her life because of her brother. It sometimes left a bitter taste in her mouth.

But Vision was very irritated. There was tension in his jaw and there was a narrow set to his eyes as he stared down the officer. Wanda rubbed his arm with her free hand, leaning against him to try to divert his attention. Vision took a glance towards her, humming and rubbing her wrist as he looked back towards the officer.

“I will have to check with my superior. But she will have to-to at least a holding cell.” The officer had said that as soon as ‘Eliza’, the manager of the coffee shop, walked out from the back, a video tape in her hands. Wanda watched her eyes scan the room and then narrow at the officer.

“You touch that girl and so help me Richard,” Wanda was immediately at ease, an older woman with a stern attitude who very clearly knew both the officer, ‘Richard’, and the other man.

“Elizabe-”

“Eliza.” She corrected him, the tape in her hands as she walked out from behind the counter. “Still as cocky and pig headed as I remember, though I do miss the boy you once were. You were kinder then.” ‘Richard’ flinched back, almost as if he was slapped, as he stared dumbly down at the tape in his hands. “You touch that girl, or any retaliation happens, I will make sure those reports I have of harassment from customers makes it to your boss.”

“Have a good evening, ma’am. I’m terribly sorry for the inconvenience.” ‘Richard’ turned tail and ran, without actually running, from the coffee shop. Eliza turned towards the other man, who was very pale now.

“Now, Edward, you really thought harassing my employees, yes I watched the tape before handing it over, and my customer’s was appropriate? Get the fuck out. And don’t come back, because you will be refused service and a restraining order will be requested.” ‘Edwards was gone soon after that.

“You are amazing.” Wanda blurted out, eyes wide. Beside her, Vision snorted. All the tension in the coffee shop evaporated, with Mary laughing lightly with bright eyes, and Eliza smiled warmly at her when she turned back towards the rest of the shop.

“I do try, dear, now, you two enjoy your date and do let me know if you are harassed by cops or by Edward again. I would hate for such a lovely face and personality to stop coming around. It’s happened far too many times.” Eliza shook her head sadly.

“Of course, ma’am.” Wanda smiled reassuringly. Vision talked quietly with Mary as he accepted their order from her. Wanda was relieved, she had been marginally worried she wouldn’t get her hot chocolate or sandwich… or her brownie.

Wanda and Vision did in fact enjoy their date, and the new friends that they’d made.

I really love this request! I was asked to do the Wandavision quote in darker colors, which challenged me because I typically work in light pastels. I’m happy with how it came out and hope you all like it too!
