Given that wednesday is told from Wednesday's perspective i think there's a really interesting parallel between affection and being trapped, except when it's about enid.

Even in the opening car scene, which uses lots of claustrophobic angles to show how Wednesday feels about her parents loving each other, there's this idea that wednesday feels trapped by loving and caring.

when her family hug her they physically have to (with no reciprocation) wrap their arms completely around her, and so does xavier when he tried to save her life.

when she tries to help/be kind to rowan he mentally pins her to a tree, when the nightshades try to reach out to her they tie her up with rope and even in the tyler kiss she's leaning away and being stopped by his arm.

talking to her therapist is seen as a prison she has to escape from and the only time she trusts ugene (to keep watch at pilgrim world) she ends up stuck in a shed with the only door blocked by an angry pilgrim.

tyler needs restraining by shackles in a cave when he is "learning to love" his master through stockholm syndrome and xavier, gomez, morticia and wednesday herself all end up in prison because they cared and showed kindness.

All of this shows that trusting caring and loving are seen as prisons by wednesday but then...

when enid leaves the dorm and leaves Wednesday alone she is seen hugging her knees, gripping them tightly, restraining herself which i think shows that she sees enid and being close to enid as freeing, a sentiment enid repeats back when she returns to the dorm, listing reasons that wednesday didn't like her and saying she wouldn't apologise for them (freeing herself from caring about other peoples perception of her).

As someone who loves sharks my ears pricked up every time they were mentioned in Wednesday and wierdly enough i think if you read into it as much as me theres some interesting stuff going on.

When wednesday mentions sharks, she is using them as an example of a very dangerous animal, talking about swimming with sharks or sharks "circling" which feed into the common western myth that sharks are evil monster things.

this isn't true at all, almost all sharks are very safe and the few that are dangerous are much less dangerous than many other wild animals (bears, hippos, etc). This (to me) shows how Wednesday's love of macabre and deadly things often leads to a negative outlook on the world, falsely believing that sharks are out to get her.

When gomez talks about sharks he says "they found you as cold-blooded as I do", still leaning into the same macabre and deadly aspect, but putting a positive, kind spin on it, as we would expect from gomez.

When Enid mentions sharks, she's talking about the hockey team the san jose sharks, who, for anyone who doesn't follow hockey, are the worst. That's not an exaggeration they currently have the least points of any team in the nhl. I think the reason that it's mentioned she is a lifelong sharks fan (besides the fact hockey is for cool people in america and enid lives in California) is that it shows unwavering loyalty to a lost cause. Her devotion to the team which is the worst.

To wednesday enid is a shark, dangerous, deadly, scary (because she doesn't know how to be affectionate).

To enid, wednesday is a shark, awful, maybe even the worst, but worth devoting your life to if you love it.

I'd just like to add that the san jose sharks are awesome and do all sorts of community events like pride nights, anti bullying talks at schools, environmental awareness+litter picking drives and they're really awesome in all ways other than being good at the sport they play.

I don't think we talk enough about Wednesdays reaction to the snood because she gets a do-your-own taxidermy kit (something she will like) and immediately complains about it (I would've prefered live squirrels) but then when enid gives her a snood, she pretends to like it.

she has so far said nothing to cushion a blow or make someone feel good but she never criticises the snood or throws it away, just makes up lots of reasons to "accidentally" lose it shes so fucking soft for enid.

some small things about the mansion scene in wednesday that are very important to me

1: enid says "this is how the best friend in every horror film dies" which implies enid knows (or thinks) that wednesday is the main character

2: wednesday puts her arm in front of enid protectively to put herself in-between enid and the monster

3: the snood kinda saves Wednesdays life which is very touching

4: enid cares more about the matching snoods (symbol of affection) than her own life

5: wednesday asks if enid is okay which is like not a lot for most people but for wednesday she might as well have kissed her on the lips and proposed right there

when wednesday is trying to subtly manipulate enid she says "would you look at that full moon" while staring out the window and obviously i know this is part of subtly manipulating enid but also it's hilarious to me that their idea of normal roommate conversations is "wow the moon is so beautiful tonight" like idk that gives me such big love and affection vibes

I shoulda shot her the first time I ever laid eyes on her. Logic tells me i didn't shoot 'cause I was fresh out of silver bullets, but that wasn't the real reason. For the first time in my life I'd been outshot, not by Sinclair but by Cupid himself.

I'd heard of her o' course. Not many folk hadn't, the only shot in the west to rival me. Ain't fate a funny thing, that i should end up fallin' for with the only one who could kill me. Perhaps it's not so much funny as it is a sick joke told by a sadist.

We were stood in the centre of the town starin' at each other, both waiting for the other to make a move. The local sheriff was layin' in a pile at her feet and i knew it was over for me. Strangely, I wasn't too scared, if this had to be the end i was sure glad to die lookin' at her.

'Course I couldn't let on. I moved my hand away from the pistol and tried to hold my composure. A death threat usually helps clear my head. "You really oughta be more careful where you show that face of yours Sinclair, the posters say dead or alive, and I don't take nobody alive."

She snarled. They didn't call her the wolf for nothin'. When she spoke her words were violent but the sound was beautiful. If sirens ever lived in the desert, I coulda believed she was one. "Feel free to try me Addams, maybe you could share a grave with the Sheriff here."

She was the only thing for a mile that had any color under the the mid day sun, which burned all colors from the world. I ain't no man's poet, but seein' her there, I saw a single vibrant flower in a field of dying crops. I saw the first light of spring breakin' through the blinding snow. It's exactly the sort of sight I've hated all my life but now seeing her, it felt good. I guess for the first time I truly understood bounties. She was worth every cent of hers.

Still, if there's one thing I take seriously it's death and I sure wasn't about to spend my afterlife with some lousy Sheriff in a one-horse town. I drew my pistol and fired, barely payin' attention to where I shot. I couldn't tear my eyes from her face.

She didn't move.

Usually, she woulda been a quicker draw than me, but I was always the best marksman the west had ever seen. I could throw an apple into the air, shoot clean through the apple and hit a bullseye on the other side. I didn't need to look at my shot to know I'd knocked the hat clean off her head. When I want to miss a target, I'll sure as hell miss.

A smile crept across her face. I don't know why. After an insult like taking her hat from her I expected to be dead. But she never shot me for an insult and boy, do I insult her a lot.

We've worked with each other a lot since, mostly on the wrong side of the law, but I guess that's why they call us outcasts. Since that day, neither of us has drawn on the other. We're a single team, a team that never has and never will be beaten.

I know she'd never let me say it but sometimes when we sleep outdoors, the fire dies and we have to hold each other for warmth. And ever so occasionally, when i know she's fully asleep, I tell her I love her. I make sure it's just loud enough for the stars in the sky to hear, so when we finally lose our touch and get outdrawn, they'll know that I loved her. The stars will remember our love even when the bounty posters forget us.

Maybe we'll even share a grave, so we can hold each other for warmth in the land of the dead.

Wednesday: when you and yoko have sleepovers mi lopa, I was pestered and annoyed enough times to be begrudgingly get kidnapped to divinas dorm where with the manipulation she used, which was basically just saying imagine how happy Enid would be. She managed to get me to look through her social media and explore tech like Vr, Video game consoles, Mp3 and 4 players, more modern forms of guns more efficient ways to spread deadly neurotoxin, Along with modern torture devices, and even some cars.

Enid: and she did all of this by using me as a way to manipulate you into doing all that

Wednesday: Yes

Enid: Yeah...we probably need to work on how easily convinced you are to do things if I'm in anyway mentioned cause some day someone's going to 100% use that against you.
