69constellationsinatrenchcoat - misadventures of a queer disabled DID system
misadventures of a queer disabled DID system

No, there are not 69 of us but we are hiding in a trenchcoat.. medically recognised adult DID system studying to become a clinical psych. We are aware we make mistakes, we know we make mistakes, we're open to kind discussion!!!! šŸ‡³šŸ‡æšŸ³ļøā€šŸŒˆšŸ³ļøā€āš§ļø Please remember, there is a person behind almost every post on the internet, including syscourse. Be kind.

I think Octocon is a bit better in that there isn't a website to look at alter lists etc, but we haven't had very much personal experience with it (we got to importing alters from Simply Plural and gave up once it didn't bring our 60+ custom fields across šŸ˜…).

Anyone who's had experience with it, feel free to add on :)

*sigh* just a friendly reminder that PluralKit attaches a unique code to your system that allows anyone to look up your system - and if you look up a system on discord using pk;system [code], gives a link to all of their public system data on PKs website, which for some of you includes information on triggers, sexuality, and other things that cyberbullies may misuse.

I have been messing around with the settings as much as possible and I cannot find a way to avoid this beyond privating all alters and all system info, which many users don't do.

Even with information privated, it still seems that PK will link your discord handle with your Pluralkit user if the unique code is plugged in.

reads: this post is for anyone who uses PluralKit - we believe this is way more important than syscourse stances

Sharing as this seems to me like a breach of privacy at best, and dangerous at worst.

It's so weird when other CDD systems get shocked at your trauma. We've talked about it with other systems and the reply is usually "what the actualā€”"

That's a system saying that. You know, created by severe childhood trauma, system.

Is it really that bad that systems are astounded?

There's something about having been suicidal since late childhood/early teens that means you get so used to feeling worthless and pathetic that whenever it flares up it's just like 'oh, it's this again - something must be..'.

Or you reflect on the last however-many years and wonder where your life went; where you look at the future like it means nothing and see your progress through a lens of 'I should never have been alive to see this, so why does it matter'.

Where you look back at your childhood self with guilt and shame because you didn't succeed in your goals because you were busy fighting

And it absolutely sucks. But it's okay. You and your system made it. (thinking about that always makes me feel like I'm part of a big family). It's okay to feel. Just please, for the love of goodness, stay. This world needs you. Your system needs you. Your future self needs you more than you know. Breathe. It's going to work out.

If you can live through the hard times once once; you can process it, you've survived hell, and it's your time to feel good again. Know there's evidence (you're still here!) that you're strong enough to live through it. You can process the pain and learn to feel joy again.

The more you find joy in the little things; listening to music, a sunwarmed cat, rainbows, warm bikkies [cookies], seeing a loved one, spending time outside, finishing a little task, craft, learning something new, the list goes on.. the easier it becomes to feel joy day to day.

It's going to be okay. You've already gone through the worst of it, and now you know you've got your system behind you, you're not alone (which is sometimes the issue XD!), but you've got this. Promise.

Sending hugs from NZ šŸ’•šŸ‡³šŸ‡æ

After being suicidal for a very long time, experiencing happiness can beā€¦ weird. It may feel foreign, strange, or jarring. You may feel ashamed for feeling joy in the face of your suffering. You many not know how to deal with positive emotions after drowning in sorrow for so long.

If your system is finding yourselves in this situation, weā€™d encourage you to just take a moment to breathe. Youā€™re not wrong or bad for experiencing joy. Happiness does not have to negate your pain and it will not undo the suffering youā€™ve gone through. It may be hard relearning to experience joy, but itā€™s worth it, we promise.

The more you allow yourselves to feel your joy, the easier it will be to feel it again in the future. We truly hope that you will be able to experience happiness again and again and again, with such frequency and intensity that it becomes familiar and second nature to you. We hope your lives will soon be filled to the brim with delight, or at least with small moments of serendipity.

When you write like

2000 words and it doesn't fucking save

hello! for the disabled systems ask game: 8, 13, 14!

8. How can people best accommodate you online?

- Using tone tags for certain things (jokes, sarcasm if itā€™s not clear etc). Not a necessity but they do help! Especially in anon suggestions/feedback/criticism where itā€™s hard to tell if someoneā€™s being genuine or not.

- Using trigger warnings and using post tags properly (ie. tagging syscourse, vents, tagging triggers in posts etc - this is good for your reach as well as making it easier for others!!)

We use filters on our tumblr so certain words are blacked out or completely blacklisted - we come here to relax most of the time, we donā€™t want politics, bullying and unpleasant content playing without us expecting it. We engage with the news etc at our leisure, but donā€™t enjoy having to see it during our break times.

- Having alt text or image descriptions with images, and GIFs. We have GIF autoplay disabled, and often will read alt text instead of watching them (as we struggle with flashing lights)

- Understanding we arenā€™t always going to be 100%, and our 100% is incredibly rare (and best spent.. not online). It may look like weā€™re doing well, but usually we are not lol. I canā€™t remember the last time we felt okay. Also it may look like weā€™re online all the time/the fronter talking to you isnā€™t the one posting - we use queue post a lot :3 and understanding we arenā€™t always gonna reply to DMs immediately!

Iā€™ve totally missed something lol but thatā€™s what i can think of rn

13. Hobbies: how does your system affect your hobbies?

In every single way possible honestly. I believe our hobbies vary between alter even if we do have some shared things - almost all of us love art and craft in some way. Sometimes someone will start something when theyā€™re fronting and then switch for some reasonā€¦and then the thing will be forgotten. We have so many unfinished hobbies and projects.

14. Funny story related to being a disabled system

Omg omg I have a good one for this - one of our syskids was doing wheelies in our wheelchair the other week and then covered all the metal parts in stickers šŸ„¹šŸ˜ It was so cute

We keep leaving our cane, crutches and wheelchair places because not all of our system is aware that we use mobility aids

Our cat always seems to know when weā€™re feeling unwell (even before weā€™ve realised) and will supervise and observe our behaviour and make sure we are okay. Heā€™ll sit on our chest, stomach and legs while we rest, or heā€™ll curl up around my arm and put his paws in my hand. He knows when weā€™ve fainted and heā€™ll poke our face, sit next to us until we come around or go get our mumā€¦ but he also knows when we have switched out. Heā€™s started using our amnesia against us to get more snacks - weā€™ll switch and heā€™ll come ask for more food šŸ˜ Smart bugger. It took us ages of forgetting to feed him/overfeeding him before someone realised what he was doing. I donā€™t know how he knows, but he really does know. Weā€™ve had to start leaving notes on the fridge to tell the household and any other fronters that heā€™s eaten.

And another one; we wear a subtle kitty plural venn diagram pin on our sunflower lanyard (along with a bunch of other pins) and our statistics teacher asked if it was because we like her subject lmao

Thanks to @disabled-systems for the ask game :)
