Chimney: Iâm kind of crushing on someone, but Iâm worried about telling you who it is, because youâre not going to like it
Buck: Just rip the bandage off.
Chimney: Itâs Maddie.
Buck: Put the bandage back on.

Authorâs Note: okay I reworked this a little bit but itâll still make sense also this is pre mango :) this is also my 11k post so :)

âGet! Up!â your father pulled the blanket off of you at what felt like the literal crack of dawn. âOh my god, what do you want from me?â you groan, rolling onto your back. Chim stood there with a cup of coffee and a plate of pancakes.Â
âBreakfastâ he smiles, setting the mug on the bedside table and handing the plate to you. âThank youâ you mumble, mouthful of pancakes. He hums and kisses the top of your head before taking a seat at the edge of the bed.Â
âWhat time are your classes done today ? I was thinking we could get dinner, I'm off at 6âłÂ
âFirst class is at 8:30 and I think the last one is at 2 so I should be done around 4-4:30, I can just call you when I'm off ?âÂ
âSounds good, Iâm leaving now. Be safe and text me when you get to school okay ?â He gets up, you nod.Â
âIâm not a baby anymore, I can take care of myself you know.â you tell him âYouâll always be my baby thoughâ he kisses your head once again and heads out. You lay back in bed when you hear the front door shut.Â
The last few months have been a bit of a whirlwind. Your mother, who you were living with up until recently, decided to up and leave you because she needed to âfind herselfâ
You couldn't believe this woman. 18 years old and all she left you was a note and a name. The note wasn't very helpful but it did drop a rather large bomb on you. This was what she decided to leave you with,
âMy dearest y/n,Â
I needed some time to myself. You have always been the main focus in my life and youâve reached an age where you can take care of yourself. If you do find yourself needing help, seek out this man.Â
His name is Howard Han, though I hear he goes by Chimney these days. Heâs your father. Heâll take care of you, I promise.Â
Love you always and wishing you well on all your future endeavours.Â
Yours always,
Mom.â
Yup, the father you grew up thinking didn't want you or never existed, did in fact exist but just didn't know that you existed. So when you showed up at his apartment in the middle of the night with your bags and note in hand, it was a bit of a shock. He remembered your mother well, he didn't realize that she was pregnant when she vanished from his life. She was the one that didnât want him to know about you, he would have loved the chance to help raise you. Although he had missed the first 18 years, heâs making up for it now.Â
--Â
The day went by rather fast, your last class was cancelled due to your professor just not âbeing in the mood to teachâ according to the email. You texted your father to see what he was up to.Â
To Dad: My class was canceled. Iâm probably gonna head home, do you want me to make a reservation for dinner or are we cooking ?
From Dad: Anythingâs fine. Your pick, just let me know
You were on your way home when you passed by the station, deciding that youâd surprise him at work, you pulled into the parking lot. The fire station was quiet as you walked in, there were 2 trucks parked and an empty space that you assumed was supposed to have an ambulance. It sounded like someone was having a conversation upstairs so you headed up the stairs.Â
The older man by the stove noticed you first. There were two more men there, a blonde and a brunette. âHi,â he wiped his hands on the towel as he walked over to you, âCaptain Bobby Nashâ he smiled. âIâm y/nâ you introduced yourself, Bobby glances back at the two men by the counter, âthatâs Buck and Eddieâ they both wave.Â
âWhat can we help you with?âÂ
âI'm looking for my dad, he works hereâÂ
âWhoâs your dad ?âÂ
âOh chi-â ây/n?â your dad called for you, causing you to turn around.Â
âHey dadâÂ
The two men and the woman beside him all go âdad?â simultaneously. Your father stands there with a smile on his face before nodding, âyeah, dad. This is my kid, y/nâ he smiles, his arm around your shoulder. âSheâs like 20âł Buck gawked, his mouth hung open and head tilted in confusion.Â
â18, but close enoughâ you corrected him. âI hope I'm not interrupting anything, I was just stopping by because I'm out of class for the dayâÂ
âIt's fine, you're welcomed here anytimeâ Bobby smiles at you. Everyone had made themselves comfortable on the couches, your father, you and Hen sitting on one while Bobby sat on the other one. Eddie and Buck sat on the arm handles of the 3 seater.Â
âHow long were you planning on keeping her a secret ?â Buck speaks up, his attention on Chimney. âIt wasn't a secret Buckaroo, I just didnât think the middle of the week was the right time to tell you guys that I had a daughter.â he chuckled. The sound of heels clicking against the concrete echoed through the station.Â
âChim?!â a womanâs voice called out, your father gets up and follows her voice down the stairs. The team exchanges glances, to the stairs, to you and back to each other. âAm I missing something ?â you ask, Buck nods towards Hen and you move to the middle of the couch and he slides down next to you. His arm rests on the back of the chair as he looks over at you.
âThatâs Maddie, my sisterâ he says quietly, trying to gauge if you knew who that was.Â
âIs she friends with dad or ?â your sentence trials off, looking back at the man next to you.Â
âTheyâre dating. He didnât tell you?âÂ
âWell no, but I assumed there was someone,â you chuckle, âhe left his schedule on the fridge and he comes home like 3-4 hours after heâs off, plus heâs all giggly and happy so that makes senseâ you explain. You get up and walk towards the railing of the balcony, your father is talking to Maddie.Â
Maddie was gorgeous, shoulder length brown hair, brown eyes and a stunning smile. She radiated an energy that was undeniably angelic, it was obvious to you that they loved each other from the way they were smiling at each other. His hand reached for hers before he spun her around, you couldn't help but smile.Â
âAre you gonna go down and introduce yourself ?â Buck walks over, he leans onto the railing beside you. âDid anyone ever tell you that you're kind of nosy,â glancing down at his name tag, âBuckley ?â your head tilts to the side as you smile at the man beside you. He lets out a laugh, âyeah, Eddie tells me all the time but I like to think it adds to my lovablenessâ humming and looking down at the pair, Chimney was telling Maddie something, a rather serious expression on both of them. Soon enough, they both look up at the balcony where you and Buck were.Â
âGuessing he told herâ he chimes in, you roll your eyes. âReally ? You think so ?â snickering, Buck pats your shoulder and leaves you by the railing. Your father gives you a look you know all too well and you make your way down the stairs to him and Maddie.Â
Smiling at the woman beside your father, you introduce yourself. âHi, Iâm y/n. You must be Maddieâ Â
âI am, itâs nice to meet youâ she returns the smile. Thereâs a pause in the conversation, the tension starting to build. This was definitely awkward.Â
âI know this is a little weird for you,â breaking the silence, you pull out your phone to check the time. âitâs weird for me too- but um, why donât you come to dinner with us ?â you glance over at your father who was looking at Maddie. She gives you a smile, glancing back over at Chimney.Â
âI couldn't intrude on your time with your dadâÂ
âNo, please. Itâs fine, itâd be nice to have someone else around. Plus, it gives us a chance to get to know each other a little betterâÂ
âAre you sure ?â she asks, you nod.Â
âIs 7 okay for you ?âÂ
â7 is perfectâÂ
--
Dinner went smoothly but there was still some awkwardness. That was mostly caused by your father because he hadn't told you that he was going to be home and that he was going to have Maddie over. So when you came home early from work to find them making out on the couch, it became a little weird.
It was Saturday and Maddie invited you out to get your nails done with her, a girls day without the pressure of your father being there and saying what he wanted to hear. Â
âAre you sure youâre gonna be okay ?â Chim asks Maddie, you can hear them from your bedroom. She laughs, âbabe, sheâs a teenager, not a murderer. Weâll be fineâ her comment causes a little chuckle. One last look in the mirror before you walk into the kitchen, âheyâ you smile and give her a hug which she returns.Â
âHey, you ready ?â she asks, picking her keys up as Chimney unwraps his arm from around her. You give her a nod and head to the door where you put your shoes on. The two of them were saying their goodbyes in the kitchen, the smooching sound from their kiss echoed through the kitchen. You gagged jokingly, Maddie laughed while your father told you to grow up playfully. He walked Maddie over to the door, âbe goodâ he warned you.Â
âDad,â you whined, âI'm not a baby, god. I can behaveâ you rolled your eyes, Chim grinned and pressed a kiss to your cheek.Â
âIâll see the two of you for lunch ?âÂ
âYeah, weâll be back later.â Maddie gave him a hug before stepping out with you.Â
The two of you spent the day, it went by rather fast. At the nail salon, you told her about your mother and how you ended up connecting with your father in the first place.Â
âShe really made you think that your father wanted nothing to do with you ?â the shock evident in Maddieâs voice. A little chuckle slipped past your lips, âyeah, she did. I mean, she gave me everything I wanted but having a dad that was present would have been nice, you know ?âÂ
âThen she just upped and left you ? No offence but is she okay ?âÂ
An obnoxiously loud laugh left your mouth, the other women in the salon looking at you. Mumbling a sorry, you turn back to Maddie, âit depends on when you catch her. Sheâs okay most of the time but those few off days, she was kind of bat shit crazy but she's my motherâ you shrug. Maddie said she understood, her parents weren't exactly her best friends either. She told you how she left home when she was young and how she rushed into a marriage that she regretted. She didnât go into full details but you could tell that it was a touchy subject and that it wasn't a good time in her life so you didnât pry. It was nice that she felt comfortable enough to share that with you.Â

*A Few Months Later*Â
âMaddie! Where are my shoes? Dad said he put them by the front door but they're not hereâ you groan, sitting on the floor in defeat. It was Bobbyâs birthday and Athena had put together a party for him. The 3 of you were running late and you couldn't find your shoes anywhere. Sure, you had other pairs but that specific pair matched your outfit.Â
âHave you checked the closet sweetie ?â she shouted back from the bedroom. Getting off the floor, you walk to the closet and tumble through the shoe rack. âI can't find them!â you groan once again.Â
âKid, why are you complaining? Whatâs wrong?â Chimney asks as he enters the kitchen, pulling the tray of cupcakes that Maddie made from the fridge. âMy shoes. Where'd you put them ?â you ask, he pauses. âUm, my bedroom ? I think ? I thought they were-â you cut him off as you grumble and make your way into the room.Â
âDid you find them ?â her back was turned to you, fixing her hair in the mirror.Â
âDad said the closet. He thought they were yoursâ you mumble and she laughs.Â
âHe can't tell the difference, I swearâÂ
Looking through the closet, you finally find them buried in a corner. âFound themâ you smile and pull them on. âLemme seeâ She turns to you and you do a little spin for her.Â
âGorgeousâ she smiles, âsays you. That dress is so cuteâÂ
The two of you walk out of the bedroom to find Chimney sitting on the couch. âWhy do girls take so long to get ready ?â he questions, looking back at the two of you. âOh hush, you just finished getting ready tooâ Maddie walks over and sits beside him.Â
âYou two do realize weâre 40 minutes late right ?âÂ
With that, the 3 of you head out together. The drive to Bobby and Athenaâs was only a few minutes, Athena was just glad that you finally showed up. She pulled Maddie and Chim off to the backyard to see Bobby, you promised to join them after you got a drink. Walking to the kitchen, you find your favourite little guy and his dads, well his dad and his dadâs best friend in the kitchen together.Â
âHey you,â you smile at Chris as you lean down to give him a hug. âY/n!â he grinned at you. âHow are you ?â you ask Christoper, you offer him a cupcake from the tray that Maddie made and he accepts happily. âIâm goodâ he gives you another smile before turning his attention to the cupcake in his hand. Chris gets some frosting on his face so he and Eddie go off to find a napkin, leaving you in the kitchen with your favourite firefighter.Â
âBuckleyâ you smile at him,
âHanâ he returns the smile. âThe three of you are late, you know that right ?âÂ
âHm thanks for pointing out the obvious Buckâ you chuckle and he smiles. âI couldn't find my shoes and then Dad took forever in the shower. Mom said my shoes were in the closet but they weren't so I was on a hunt to find them and then she couldn't pick what she wanted to wear. Anyways, it was a whole mess but weâre here nowâ you sigh, accepting the cup Buck handed to you. Buck had an amused look on his face, your face twisted into a look of confusion.Â
âWhat is it ? Oh is there frosting in my face?â the back of your hand coming up to wipe your cheek. Buck shook his head, âyou called Maddie momâ he chuckles, you pause and replay what you said to Buck just moments ago in your head. A little laugh passing your lips, âI guess I did.â Chimney shouts for you from the backdoor, letting you know that theyâre cutting the cake so you and Buck head into the yard together.
The afternoon went by rather quickly, the 3 of you were some of the last to leave. Buck hung back to help Athena and Bobby tidy up. When you arrived home, you were so tired, you could barely function. Kicking off your shoes by the door, you make your way straight to the bedroom. Changing and getting into bed, your body sunk into the soft mattress, your comforter on top of you and the fan spinning, you about to have a good nightâs sleep.Â
A knock on your door and footsteps into your room, your dad sits at the edge of your bed. âYou okay kid ?â he asks quietly, you hum as you were too tired to verbally answer him. He chuckles, patting your leg before getting up. âSleep well kiddoâ he leaves your room.Â
Once more, thereâs a knock on the door, it's Maddie this time. She walks in and fixes your blanket, tucking in the edges by the side. âJust wanted to say goodnightâ she smiles, your eyes ever so slightly open to see her standing in front of you. Maddie brushes some of your hair away from your face, âgoodnight sweetieâ she says softly, you hum before answering her, ânight momâ mumbling as you turn onto your side. A faint gasp like noise slips past Maddieâs lips, she stares adoringly at the girl who was now sleeping. She steps out and shuts your door, walking into the room at the end of the hall where she finds her boyfriend sitting on the bed.Â
âWhy do you look so happy ?â he asks her, glancing up at her from his book.
âY/n just called me momâ she whispers in disbelief, afraid that if she says it too loudly that it wonât be true. Chimney shut the book, his attention solely on the woman standing across from him,Â
âShe did ?â he smiled at her
âShe did.â she smiled back at him.
