Success

I'm responding to a post from Linked In ..

Too many of you aren’t being accountable - you prefer to blame your family, employees, society, or someone random instead of yourself. It’s your biggest weakness and the thing that’s holding you back from happiness. When you learn to blame yourself blindly, you learn how to be happy. Tag the most accountable person you know!

Accountability is the defacto excuse used by successful people on why unsuccessful people are unsuccessful. Esp, when it comes to happiness.

Here,s the problem w that argument. Unsuccessful people aren't unhappy. And, on the flip side .. successful people are not happy either.

But, focusing on unsuccessful people for a moment .. Unsuccessful people are unable to leverage their resources the way successful people can. For an unsuccessful people to invest their time into a pet project and grow it, there has to be a reward waiting. Everything that is done on the project must produce a positive reward. A dopamine kick.

No matter how small the move is .. it must have an immediate reward attached to it. Then, when that project is published, can the proceeds be rolled into the next project and so on.

This is what makes an unsuccessful person successful. Slow, steady, consistent effort toward an overall goal.

Those interest baring investments you made by betting on 1000s of different things. Yes, your skills and lucky helped you to win. Even poker players are proud of you. But, unsuccessful people can't play poker. Nor can they gamble w their rent. No, they are on a fixed income and have a fixed monthly nutt they have to make.

That's accountability

Call for Videos

I'm not sure if it's ADDitude Magazine or a member of their FaceBook Group that is working on this project, but I think it's a great idea. Let's begin recording what ADHD is like and build a documentary on ADHD.

The initial call was for objectives for the video. What should the video show about ADHD? Since, I'm maintaining a blog on Working With ADHD, here are some suggestions I thought should be included.

How a single event can redirect an ADHDr making us look scattered and kaotic, distracted and disconnected, overwhelmed or hyperfocused

How events change an ADHDrs feelings in real time.

How unlike an NT we can't shunt emotions

That there are 3 types of events ADHDrs deal with .. external, internal monologue, and internal sensations which can't be consciously felt, yet affect us emotionally

How ADHDrs can ride off someone else's emotional high to work on a project

How ADHDrs are motivated by positive events

How ADHDrs avoid negative events

How a negative event causes ADHD thought depression storms

How a single strong positive event can terminate a thought depression storm

How externalizing things helps us remember

How using emojis helps us see what emotion we are assigning to tasks

How reframing a task or event can allow us to do the task

How getting a running head start w positive events can allow us to see a negative task as a challenge

How life gets better as you begin curating positive events

How ADHDrs are willing to accept greater challenges and responsibilities as well have positive outcomes

How ADHDrs have associative memories

How ADHDrs study

How ADHDrs are spontaneous yet unable to complete a project

How ADHDrs feel frustrated and restricted by their disorder

How ADHDrs become exhausted by just trying

How ADHDrs become time blind

What an ADHDrs inner monologue is like

How an ADHDrs mind matures over time, thus motor control develops at a different rate than executive function.

How we are Hyper Aware of everything happening around us, even if we don't react.

Why ADHDrs have so few friends.

How .. Out of Sight, Out of Mind .. Works

Why / How it is hard for an ADHDr to commit to time tables

How ADHD isolates and ADHDr

What it's like to live in an ADHD house filled with projects and organized clutter

How ADHD makes ADHDrs feel

How NTs view us

How NTs feel about the excuse of ADHD

My recommendation for video clips ..

Keep them to 1 or 2 topics listed above.

Keep them to 2 to 3 minutes in length.

Focus on showing / demonstrating the topics of ADHD.

Read what others are suggesting at ...

Leadership Guidance

It's interesting as I dig deeper into leadership through studying it, I stumble across something that expands a topic I thought was very limited. Initially, I thought guidance was simply answering questions and directing people towards a state goal, but it is so much more than that. So, here is a bit of what I've discovered.

My understanding of Guidance was expounded through Project Management and Management Review meetings. I had someone ask me, "I'm about to see my manager to do a performance review, what should I expect / talk about?"

I pondered this question, because a manager needs to provide guidance on how their report is performing, and how they can improve if needed, or how they can improve the project they are working on. It should be noted that if you live/work in a dual culture company where you have a manager who manages your work load and performance, while another manages the overall projects you work on, and yet another manager controls the overall product you are working on, this can be quite the frustrating position to be in. Who is your manager?

But, here is what each manager can provide you, and what you can help your manager understand you need ...

Guidance from Managers

Every manager can provide 4 things to you ...

An open forum to manage expectations

A review of the risks and solutions to problems you are facing in your work.

Access to a knowledge base either internal or external to help you answer questions about the work you're doing, the project you're working on, and the product that you are delivering.

And finally, support

When you look at these 4 components in the full definition of leadership .. Guiding Intent with Integrity .. you begin to see how these support the definition.

Having an open forum to manage expectation helps both you, the managers, and the team understand what you can do, when you can do it, and how you are going to do. When this is not conveyed, various parties within the group can become upset that expectations were not met, and may blame you for not being in integrity or having subversive intentions.

Having a forum to review the risks and solutions is also crucial to insuring that expectations are met. This helps the manager know what things are pinch points, will require more time, or could possibly halt a project .. thus delaying a deadline that could cost the company / customer a sale.

Knowledge is the bread and butter of any project. You are the SME for what ever you are working on. This is why you are there, and why you haven't been replaced with someone who can do the work better and faster using current techniques. Your managers trust your judgements on how best to navigate through the various risks and achieve the solution within a timely manner.

And, finally a manager provides support in the form of off loading work you don't have to do to other subordinates. If you are building a rocket that needs 20 engines, the manager could focus you on building the more involved complex parts, while subordinates build the mundane repeatable things .. like rocket engines. How many did you need 32? Or was it 28?

I'm sure there's more to come as I continue to explore this topic. I look forward to sharing it with you as I discover it.

Building Community

If you want to build a community you are proud to call home in, then demonstrate what good behavior is, and spank those who exhibit bad behavior.

And, I do mean .. litterally ... Spank. It's still allowed at all ages, for all genders.

Issues

We need to teach people how to discuss issues, discuss how an issue affects them, and discuss solutions.

The Small Things

"Should I leave social media since all my friends are fighting all the time, when I post something?"

My suggestion .. Lead.

Since, Leadership is, "Guiding Intentions with Integrity", you need to show your friends how to have a civil discourse by attacking the issues, vs each other's character flaws.

To attack the issue, it is nessary to break the issue into it's smaller subcomponents. Into things that individuals can relate to. For example, when asked how to disucss ADHD to NeuroTypcials, I suggest that ADHDrs describe the individual symptoms of ADHD, that way NTs will have something they can relate to. IE .. walking into a room and forgetting why you were walking into it.

Through demonstrated leadership, help each friend find smaller common elements that they can relate to and discuss. Where they can describe how life is affecting them as an individual. Where they can describe how they personally resolved or overcame this issue.

Think of three people you know well. How would you rate them in terms of cooperation, collaboration, and teamwork?

If your tendency is to describe others in positive terms is an important indicator of the positivity of your own personality traits. Judge others as enthusiastic, happy, kind-hearted, courteous, emotionally stable, and capable and you're likely to be the same way.

The same goes for the flip side. A huge suite of negative personality traits are associated with viewing others negatively. The simple tendency to see people negatively indicates a greater likelihood of depression and various personality disorders.

Change the characteristic of interest to find the people you are interested in. "Think of 3 people who are ... ", This is an old sales trick, where the sales rep asks you to think of 3 people in your life like you who could use his services. It narrows the field down so that you aren't thinking globally, but very locally.

Happiness is not a destination. It is curated in every single event throughout your day. Like a museum of ancient artifacts, no where in that collection is a piece of modern work. Just like there is no room for a negative event, if you only curate positive events.

Ive Always Felt That Indifference Is A Huge Obstacle Of Positive Change, And We Are Powerful Together

I’ve always felt that indifference is a huge obstacle of positive change, and we are powerful together if we keep caring. About injustice, the world, each other. Life is tough, and some days you barely have the energy to care for yourself- I get it. But please, please, let’s continue to care deeply about inequality and justice. I don’t think the world can be a better place until we make it better for all of us.

For everyone in the US, if you haven’t already, register to vote and sign up for a mail-in ballot if you’re planning to! If you want an easy and inexpensive way to help more, I’ve signed up to write letters to encourage people to vote this election at votefwd.org! I know a lot of people feel too defeated to vote, but your vote matters so much, more now than ever. We can all make a difference together.

As things happen, you will allow your little one to make a mess =)

Clear off the kitchen table in preparation for making cookies =)

You will sprinkle flour on to the table

You will draw a letter into the flour

Your little one has to guess the letter

Then your little one will draw a letter and you will guess it

6 Fortune Cookies

You meal prep for the week.

Your little one will be in charge of getting various things from the fridge and cupboard and taste testing.

As you prepare various dishes, you will ask if the ingredients are fresh.

The little one will have to check the date on the packaging.

The little one will have to smell the food once opened.

The little one will taste the food (as long as it’s safe to do so)

Once properly prepared to eat, the little one will taste the food to determine if it tastes ok.

I like Coumo's response to, "Staying home is worse than death!"| If you go out and get sick, you will DIE!  Plain and simple.  So, how is dieing worse than staying home?  Are you being water boarded, because that's what it feels like when you are fighting for your life after contracting the virus.  Is that better than staying at home and living? #covid19 #waterboarding #worsethandeath #stayhome #stayalive

To all the people who feel it is their right to assemble under the 1st amendmrnt .. that right only works when 2 conditions are met ..

1 - you will not harm yourself

2 - you will not harm others

If in the course of your assembling you contract the Corona virus, you will harm others when you pass it along.

Pls, repost

“But the plain fact of the matter is that, for any person to successfully lead others, he or she must deal with reality and be ready to accept the fact that leadership, at times, can bring out the worst in us. And understanding, as well as coming to grips with the darker side of your personality, is key to dealing with real-life situations.”
