Prompt - ‘All's well that ends well to end up with you.’
It had been a long few days and Spencer was glad to be flying back home. The cases were always hardest when children were involved and the brutalness of this case made for a somber flight home. Spencer beat himself up for most of the flight back, if only he had pieced together the information faster…
“It’s not your fault, you know that don’t you?” Derek asked, pulling Spencer out of his head.
Spencer didn’t reply for a long moment but Derek didn’t push, he could see Spencer was mulling over the question.
“I read those journals, Morgan, I read each page and somehow missed the most vital clue that led us to that cabin. I should have picked up on it days ago.” Spencer told him, causing Derek to sigh.
“Spenc, we all read that part of the journal and anyone would have missed it. It wasn’t written for anyone but the unsub, you can’t beat yourself up over this, man. Those kids were gone long before we got there.”
“Elliot wasn’t.” Spencer replied blankly.
“Listen to me, kid, even if you picked up on the location on day one that kid, he still would’ve died. Brown was too far gone and he would’ve killed that kid before any of us had a chance to shoot him. This was not your fault. I need you to hear that.” Derek told him, leaning forward in his seat as he spoke.
Spencer knew that what Derek was saying was true, the man was having one of the worst psychotic breaks the team had seen for a long time. Killing the boys was the only agenda and he wouldn’t have let himself be taken down without making sure Elliot was dead too.
“Yeah,” Spencer sighed, “I hear you, it’s just hard sometimes.”
“Trust me, kid, I know.” Derek agreed. There was always going to be those cases that haunted you more so than others, this one happened to be Spencer’s. “You did good today.”
From there the conversation turned lighter, Derek trying to keep Spencer from getting too lost in his thoughts and it wasn’t long before the jet had landed and everyone made their way upstairs to get started on the paperwork.
-
“Anyone up for drinks?” Emily said as everyone was getting ready to leave, it was well into night time by now and all Spencer wanted to do was go home.
“Count me in.” Derek said as he swung his jacket over his shoulder. Everyone else confirmed they could use a drink after this case.
“Reid, you coming?” Rossi asked, frowning in concern as Spencer shook his head no.
“No thanks, I think I’m just going to head home for the night but you guys have fun.” He told them. He missed the looks of concern shot across the group as they entered the elevator.
“Reid, a word before you leave.” Hotch said, gesturing for everyone else to go ahead as he walked Spencer to his car. “How are you feeling? I know that case was tough.”
“I’m fine,” Spencer said though it didn’t sound too convincing considering the look Hotch gave him, “I know there was nothing that could have stopped Brown from killing the boy but a part of me just keeps wondering, you know, what if I hadn’t missed it? Would he still be alive?”
“We’ve dealt with a lot of cases, a lot of people suffering from psychotic breaks and from my experience I honestly don’t believe the outcome to this case would have been any different even if the circumstances changed. I think Brown was too overwhelmed by his own past and his anger and I think he would have killed that boy even if we found him earlier.” Spencer nodded along as he listened to Hotch and like with Derek, he knew that what was being said was most likely true but still couldn’t shake the what if’s.
“I know, sir, logically I know that but…” Here Spencer paused, not entirely sure how to put into words how he felt but ultimately he didn’t have to because Hotch rested his hand on Spencer’s shoulder and gave it a firm squeeze.
“I know.” Hotch said in understanding. “Are you sure you don’t want to come tonight, it might help.”
“No thank you.” Spencer told him.
“What about Y/N? Maybe you could go and see her, she gave you a key to her apartment, didn’t she?” Hotch asked but he remembered the conversation vividly as Spencer showed them the key with slight confusion.
“You don’t think she’d mind me showing up now?” Spencer asked, Hotch taking note of how Spencer visibly brightened.
-
You had been dating Spencer for eleven months now, the two of you meeting by chance one day at a bookstore. It was a complete cliche, Spencer had bumped into you causing you to drop your books and your drink. Spencer insisted on buying you a new drink and upon seeing your books, he couldn’t help but strike up a conversation about them when he recognised them as some of his favourites.
The two of you had stayed in the cafe for hours, the conversation starting with books and then moving onto hobbies, then your jobs and before either of you realised it hours had passed. With flushed cheeks and a shy exchange the two of you left with each other's phone number and a promise to meet again soon.
From there the rest was history.
You had to admit it was hard at the beginning dating somebody who worked for the FBI, a new state every week, not knowing if the next phone call was going to be someone informing you something had happened to Spencer but eventually it became a little less daunting.
-
A few months into the relationship you were introduced to Spencer’s friends. You had met JJ first, immediately getting on with the woman who you seemed to click with straight away. The two of you spoke regularly and even hung out alone together.
From there you had met Penelope and Emily and then Derek. They all took great pleasure in teasing Spencer but also made sure you were included, each getting to know you and you them.
That only left Hotch and Rossi.
For some reason Spencer was nervous to introduce you to Hotch though he wouldn’t ever admit it. He spoke with you one night about how he wanted to introduce the two of you but wasn’t sure how to and you suggested that you could meet Spencer for lunch at work and he immediately agreed.
When you walked in the others were all focused on their work, each typing away or sorting through the stacks of files scattered around. Hotch was closest to you and looked up as you entered the room hesitantly. You’d never been here before and you were more nervous than you thought you’d be.
“Can I help you?” He asked, looking at the badge that identified you as a visitor.
“Um, hi, I’m here for Spencer?” You said, cursing yourself for how nervous you sounded.
“And you are?” The man asked but before you could answer you heard Spencer calling your name. You relaxed as you turned to see him walking over to you.
You watched as he looked from the man to you before clearing his throat.
“Um, Hotch this is Y/F/N Y/L/N my girlfriend.” He introduced you and you couldn’t help but smile at how flustered he was. “Y/N, this is Supervisory Special Agent Aaron Hotchner.”
“It’s nice to meet you, sir.” You said, shaking the hand he held out to you.
“Please call me Aaron. It’s nice to meet you too. I wasn’t aware Spencer had a girlfriend.” Hotch said, watching as Spencer flushed even more.
“It’s only been a few months.” You explained to him, causing the man to nod.
The three of you continued your conversation before you were interrupted by JJ.
“I’m sorry, sir, but we have a case. Four dead bodies have turned up so far with another reported missing two hours ago, if the unsub follows the same pattern we have eight hours before the missing woman shows up dead and it’s a two hour flight so we have to leave now.” JJ explained as she handed files out to everybody.
You watched as Spencer looked down at the file before looking back at you apologetically. Everyone had already begun moving, grabbing their belongings.
“I’m so sorry.” He said, feeling a warmth in his chest as you just smiled at him.
“Go catch the bad guy.”
You watched Spencer grab his bag and the team and you entered the elevator. It was silent, everyone’s thoughts on the case at hand but you were more focused on Spencer as he linked your fingers together, squeezing your hand softly as he did.
As the team waited for a car to be brought up front, Spencer turned to you.
“I really am sorry.” He said again but you had just shook your head.
“I promise it’s fine, just...just come home safe.” You told him, biting your lip as you looked at the file in his hand.
Spencer immediately pulled you into a tight embrace and you wrapped your arms around his waist, holding him just as tightly.
“Spenc,” Morgan said, pulling Spencer's attention away from you and to the car the others were now piling into.
Spencer nodded before cupping your cheek and pulling you into a soft kiss.
“I’ll see you soon.” He whispered as he pulled away.
“I’ll be counting down the days.” You told him and with that he climbed into the car and closed the door.
“We’ll make sure he’s safe.” Somebody said, causing you to jump slightly. A man you hadn’t met stood next to the passenger door, looking at you with a smile. “I’m David Rossi by the way.” He said, leaning forward to shake your hand.
“Y/F/N Y/L/N and thank you.” You said with a shaky smile.
He nodded at you, shooting you a comforting smile before he was in the car and it was driving away.
-
“She gave you a key didn’t she?” Hotch said, a ghost of a smile on his lips as Spencer nodded thoughtfully.
“Thank you, Hotch.” Spencer said, smiling at Hotch who just squeezed the younger man's arm once more before pulling away.
“Have a good night, Reid.”
“You too.” Spencer smiled and it didn’t take him long to climb into the car and begin his drive.
-
It was just past two when Spencer arrived at your apartment. He knew you’d be asleep so tried to be as silent as possible as he slid the key into the lock. This wasn’t the first time he’d used the key but it was the first time he hadn’t checked with you beforehand.
As he expected the apartment was completely dark and so he took his time making his way to your bedroom, not wanting to trip on anything and wake you up.
He hadn’t had a chance to speak to you today and there had only been time for quick texts during this case, time being of the essence when it came to missing children. He had missed you more than he could say.
The two of you hadn’t said ‘I love you’ to each other yet but Spencer had known for a long time now that he loved you, you were it for him. He couldn’t imagine anyone else he would rather spend his life with.
Spencer gently pushed your door open, wincing as it creaked slightly but thankfully you didn’t stir. He made fast work of changing his clothes, he swore you had more of his clothes in your apartment than were at his own.
It wasn’t long before he was crawling into bed with you, the tiredness hitting him all at once as the blanket wrapped around him. Looking at you though, so beautiful even as you slept, he felt his heart swell. Even after all the bad he’d seen, even after this case you managed to make him feel better.
The stress lessened as he took you in his arms, holding you close. He smiled as you cuddled further into him, your hand clenching the shirt he wore.
Spencer leaned down and kissed your forehead, letting his lips linger there for a moment or two before he pulled away.
“I love you so much.” He couldn’t help but confess into the dark, his voice a whisper, so quiet that despite the closeness you didn’t stir but it felt good to say it out loud.
It wasn’t long before Spencer fell asleep, you in his arms, feeling better than he had for days.

Prompts -310 - “Every day she’s wondering why I’m not there!"
You tried desperately to hold on to several thoughts, tried so hard not to let them stop running through your head. You had no idea how long you’d been gone for but it was long enough that you were barely functioning.
‘My name is Y/F/N Y/L/N. I am an Avenger. I have magic.’
There used to be more thoughts, you were sure there used to be more thoughts but you couldn’t remember them anymore. You thought there might’ve been another name, another something, anything, but you didn’t know any more.
‘My name is Y/F/N Y/L/N. I am an Avenger. I have magic.’
They had taken you so easily, strapped you down in a chair until you couldn’t remember who you were before. You used to have more thoughts but they were gone now.
Now you didn’t remember anything that happened, you couldn’t feel your own body, did you even have a body anymore? There used to be pain but now there wasn’t. Were you dead?
‘My name is Y/F/N Y/L/N. I am an Avenger. I have magic.’
Sometimes you heard people, voices, cars, sounds, but you didn’t register them completely. Never knew exactly what you were hearing. You felt cold, so cold, a lot of the time but then sometimes you felt cool air, like you were outside but you couldn’t remember.
Why couldn’t you remember?
‘My name is Y/F/N Y/L/N. I am an Avenger. I have magic.’
There used to be pain. Now there was nothing.
-
“Tell me you found something?” Bucky asked as he walked into Tony’s workshop. You’d been missing for four months, four months of Bucky trying to track you down but HYDRA had become smarter. There were less of them now that the Avengers had started taking them out but they were smarter now that they had you, you were their secret weapon.
The magic you held was powerful, more powerful than anyone should have access to. Forged by an infinity stone, the power should've killed you like it killed the hundreds before you but for some reason, one even the Sorcerer Supreme couldn’t even explain, the power had merged with you, making you one of the most powerful witches to walk the earth.
The abilities you had, well they were enough to bring the Earth to its knees. In the hands of HYDRA there was no telling what would happen.
Bucky knew you wouldn’t willingly follow their orders but he also knew how effective their methods were.
“She was spotted again.” Tony said, his voice heavy with sorrow. This was the seventh sighting of you, you looked worse and worse each time. By the time you were spotted you were gone before they could get to you.
It was like HYDRA was taunting them.
Wherever you were seen, shortly after a major disaster was reported, usually with dozens dead.
“You have to find her!” Bucky yelled, stalking towards Tony, effectively pinning him against the desk.
To Tony’s credit he didn’t flinch, he looked straight at Bucky with his head held high.
“I’m gonna find her, I promise you that much, I’m gonna bring her home.” Tony promised. He wouldn’t rest until you were safe.
“Every day she’s wondering why I’m not there!” Bucky tried to yell but his voice broke mid sentence as tears filled his eyes, he knew first hand how bad HYDRA could be, the thought of them hurting you-
“We’re gonna get her back, we won’t stop until we do.” Tony promised again, letting his hand rest on Bucky’s shoulder.
Bucky scrunched his eyes shut for a moment before nodding.
They were going to get you back.
-
‘My name is Y/F/N Y/L/N. I am an Avenger.’
What was an Avenger? You couldn’t remember, you tried to, you tried so hard to remember but you couldn’t. The name didn’t mean anything to you anymore.
‘My name is Y/F/N Y/L/N. I am an Avenger.’
Days and weeks dragged without you knowing. You sat there, were you sitting?, motionless. Some days you longed for the pain, anything to tell you that you were alive but nothing came.
Nothing ever came.
-
‘My name is Y/F/N Y/L/N.’
That was your name, you were Y/F/N Y/L/N. You didn’t know anything else any more, couldn’t remember anything else. Everything felt empty, you tried to remember what came after that but you couldn’t.
-
‘My name is Y/F/N.’
How long had it been? Days, time, it had no meaning to you anymore. You didn’t know what you were or if you were even real. Nothing happened ever, nothing that you could see, nothing you could feel, nothing you could remember.
‘My name is…’
-
“Holy crap!” Tony exclaimed as he looked at the data in front of him.
It had been seven months since your disappearance and not a day went by where Tony wasn’t looking for you. By now he had a long, long list of HYDRA bases, some abandoned, some active, but none ever held you.
He and JARVIS had been looking through the new data when they saw you. Your face was partially covered but the camera was at just the right angle.
It was definitely you.
Tony was quick to make his way up to where the jet was always on standby for such an occasion, he had already told everyone to suit up and meet him there.
“You found her?” Bucky asked as soon as Tony came into view.
“I found her.” Tony said, relief flooding his system. He knew it wasn’t going to be any easier, getting you out and dealing with the aftermath, but right now he just wanted to focus on the good news.
He was startled out of his thoughts when Bucky pulled him into a rough hug. The pair of them weren’t exactly friends but they got along just fine. Tony knew what Bucky was feeling though and hugged him back.
“Thank you.” Bucky whispered before pulling away and boarding the plane.
It took a good fews hours to get to where you were. In that time the team went over multiple different plans and ways to get you out. By the time they landed they had a fairly decent plan but still had no idea what they were walking into.
-
Outside your room sounds of guns and knives, metal and thunder could be heard by everyone except you.
You were oblivious to the absolute destruction that was happening in order to get you back. You had no idea that there were bodies piling higher and higher as the Avengers took down anyone who stood between you and them.
Bucky moved through the building as quickly and as quietly as he could. Though the trigger words were long gone, he had snapped back into the Winter Soldier faster than ever, using all his training against the people who created him.
He checked room after room, growling when he didn’t see you in any of them.
He had to stop, he had to think carefully. Bucky knew these monsters, he knew how they thought. If they knew there was even a slight chance somebody would come for their most powerful weapon, where would they hide her?
It took him less than thirty seconds to find an answer and then he threw stealth out the window as he ran down corridors, shouting through the comms for the team to meet up with him.
-
No thoughts ran through your head anymore.
You couldn’t remember who you were. You knew there used to be many things you were supposed to remember but you didn’t know anything anymore.
-
“She’s gonna be alright, Buck.” Steve said as he took a seat next to Bucky who was sitting at your side in the hospital.
“What if she’s not? Sure they think she’ll pull through physically but we’ve got no clue what they did to her head.” Bucky said. Now that the adrenaline had worn off, he felt defeated. Sure he had you back but what if he was too late, what if HYDRA had gone too far.
“It’s Y/N.” Steve said like that explained everything. “She’s a fighter.”
Bucky had nothing to say. Whilst it was true and you were one of the strongest people he knew, he also knew you were just a human. Sure the infinity stone had given you powers but ultimately you were still a human and there was only so much damage the human mind could take.
“She’ll pull through,” Steve said as he stood to leave, “She always does.”
-
It had taken a month and a half for your body to fully recover. In that time you were moved from the hospital and into the compound’s medical wing. Bucky had yet to leave your side for longer than a shower and forced meals that he swore he didn’t need. Any time away from you wasn’t worth it.
In the space of that month you had opened your eyes and twitched your fingers a few times but other than that made no move to wake up.
As the days went by the hope lessened significantly. Bucky spoke with you everyday, he begged and pleaded with you to just wake up, just let him know you were going to be ok. When he left your side to shower he cried, he punched the walls and broke most of the bathroom whilst cursing the world.
He’d apologised to Tony but the man shrugged it off, telling him to get back to his girl. The whole team was dealing with it pretty badly, most days the weather was terrible with thunder spreading right across New York.
“Please wake up, doll.” Bucky whispered, his voice cracking as he took your hand in his. “C’mon, doll you can do it.”
-
‘Doll.’
That wasn’t your name, at least you didn’t think it was your name.
A flicker of a memory, so faint you could barely recall it but you managed.
‘Doll.’
He called you that, the man with the metal arm. He called you doll but it wasn’t your name.
Who was he? You knew him somehow but you couldn’t remember. Why was he here? Was he one of the people who hurt you?
‘Just show me you're awake, ok? Just squeeze my hand if you can hear me, baby.’
Squeeze your hand, how? Did you have a body? You couldn’t feel it.
‘Just a little squeeze, c’mon baby, for me.’
It was the man with the metal arm. Nobody else called you baby or doll. At least you didn’t think so, it was hard to remember. The memories, they were so far away.
He sounded sad.
Your hand. He wanted you to move your hand. Where was it again?
Focus.
It took a long time but eventually you squeezed your hand, once, twice, three times.
‘Y/N, can you hear me?!”
Y/N!
That was your name, your name was Y/F/N….
You thought there was more, there should’ve been more but you couldn’t remember the next bit.
Instead you squeezed your hand again.
-
Bucky let out a slightly hysterical laugh as he looked down at you.
“Good job baby, that’s it. You’re doing great.” He praised as he looked at your hand like it was the best thing to grace the Earth. “So good.”
Doctors came swarming in when they were altered via JARVIS about the changes, chattering about how this was a good sign and where to go from here.
Bucky watched them from the doorway, a huge grin on his face.
He didn't doubted your strength but he also couldn’t deny HYDRA’s methods. They were enough to make anyone lose their mind but here you were finding your way back. It was going to be a long, exhausting road but you were finding your way back.

Prompt - ‘If you wanted me you really should have showed.’
If you were to ask anybody who knew you or Jake they would have all told you the same thing; you were head over heels in love, you and Jake were the one for each other. People were more surprised to find out you weren’t dating after taking one look at the two of you and coming to the conclusion that you had to be together, friends couldn’t possibly look at each other like that.
When people asked you what the deal was between you and Jake, you just smiled. It wasn’t a happy smile but rather a smile that showed how much you wanted things to change, a smile that said I fell for my best friend hard and there’s nothing that can be done. You gave them a smile and you told them he was your friend, he was your best friend, and that was the end of it.
There had always been something between you and Jake, something that always hinted towards feelings for each other, something that gave you a spark of hope that things could change but they never did.
Things never changed.
You and Jake had hit it off pretty much straight away when you’d first met, your first day on the job Jake came up to you with a to-go cup and a bright smile on his face. He stayed with you all day, helping you navigate everything. From then on you two had become such close friends, it was a friendship that everyone should have at least once, the type of friendship were you knew what the other was thinking, what they were going to do, it was the type of friendship were you could show up at each other’s door after a bad case and not have to say anything.
It was the type of friendship that made you realise you were falling in love.
You went on for months pretending that nothing had changed. Except now you couldn’t help but look at things from a new perspective, when Jake hugged you close for longer than what was considered socially acceptable, when Jake showed up at your door with a bag filled with your favourite take out, could these things just be friendly gestures or was there a chance Jake liked you too?
-
“I call Y/N!” Was the first thing you heard as the elevator doors opened into the precinct. You walked towards Holt’s office, leaning against the door frame but staying silent.
“You can’t just call Y/N.” Amy said as she rolled her eyes at Jake who was grinning up at her.
“Ha! I just did.” Jake shot back.
“Sir, Jake always picks Y/N.” Terry said looking towards Holt who tried to look bored of the group in front of him but looking closely you could see he was amused by the conversation topic.
“Perhaps we should just let Y/N pick who her partner is.” Holt said as he gestured to you. You smiled as you watched Jake’s head shoot around as he smiled brightly at you.
You looked at Jake and hated that the first thought in your head was could he like me. Rosa had told you the way you and Jake looked at each other wasn’t how friends should look at each other but you’d always brushed her off. Since realising your feelings for the detective you could help but question if she was right.
“Y/N!” Jake greeted, “You’ll be my partner won’t you?” The over exaggerated puppy dog eyes made your heart simultaneously ache and swell at the same time. You wished this was just some school girl crush that you could shake off but it wasn’t, it was real and you ached with how much you wanted this.
“Hmm,” You pondered, watching as Jake jutted his bottom lip out some more, “I suppose somebody has to be and I can put up with you better than most people can.” You joked, smiling as he laughed and made his way over to you, wrapping an arm around your waist and pulling you close.
“That’s my girl.” And oh, how you wished you were.

You frowned as you heard a knock on your door. It had been a long day at work, the case you’d spent weeks on had gotten nowhere and was now considered a cold case - telling the victim’s family had gone as well as expected. Now all you wanted to do was hide away from everything and everyone.
With a groan you got out of bed and headed to the front door.
“Hi.” Jake smiled sadly at you. Despite everything that had happened that day, you couldn’t help the small smile that spread across your face.
“What are you doing here?” You asked, opening the door wider.
“Thought you could use some company.” He told you and before you knew it you were being wrapped up tightly in Jake’s arms.
You couldn’t help but grip him just as tightly, cursing yourself as you did so. Being in Jake’s arms, wrapped tightly up in them like he could protect you from the world, made you feel safe. It was the safest you had felt in a long time and when he pulled away you immediately missed the warmth and comfort.
“Can I do anything?” He asked but you just shook your head, not trusting yourself to speak. “I can go, I just wanted to make sure you were ok.”
“No, no,” You rushed out before you could stop yourself, “stay, please.” You pleaded, stepping aside so he could come in. The two of you headed to your bedroom, this wasn’t the first time one of you had shown up at the other’s house after midnight and it wasn’t the first time you’d shared a bed.
It was, however, the first time since you discovered your feelings for the man and this time instead of keeping some space between the two of you, Jake wrapped you up in his arms again.
You couldn’t help but melt into him and you pleaded with anyone who would listen for Jake to just make a move, give you a hint…anything.
-
“Come on, man, Y/N’s not gonna wait around forever.” Terry said one night as he, Charles and Jake were sat in the bar. The two men had been on Jake’s back for months now trying to get him to ask you out.
“Trust me, I want to but it’s not like that. She doesn’t feel that way about me.” Jake replied, a small frown on his face. He hated when the guys brought you up because it always reminded him that he couldn’t have you, no matter how much he wanted you, you were always just going to see him as a friend. He wasn’t going to ruin that friendship by telling you how he felt.
“She likes you, Jake!” Charles insisted but Jake just shook his head. He couldn’t have this conversation again, so without a word he left the bar ignoring the calls of his friends.
It hurt, only being able to have you as a friend. To hold you after a bad day but know there was nothing more than platonic feelings there, to not go home together after work and cook together, working like you were made for each other. Just being your friend was the worst but the thought of losing that friendship and you turning him down was too much for Jake so instead he smiled and continued to just be friends.
-
It had been months since you first realised you liked Jake and in that time you had given him so many chances to confess, for him to pull you into a kiss and say he felt the same way but that day never came.
Eventually you decided that you just had to give up because sooner or later this was going to destroy your friendship with Jake and that would break your heart.
“I have a date.” You told Rosa and Amy when the others left the break room. They immediately started talking and questioning you about it, both drawing the same incorrect conclusion.
“With Jake?” They asked together, Amy grinning at you whilst Rosa smirked. Both girls had been persistent that you and Jake were going to have a big romantic moment where you confessed your feelings and fell magically into your happily ever after.
“Finally, I always told you he was the one for you.” Amy continued as her smile grew. Any conversation where Jake came up, Amy had always insisted that Jake was ‘the one’.
Oh, how you wished he was.
Unfortunately this was life and people rarely got what they wanted.
“No.” You said, watching as their expressions changed immediately.
“What do you mean ‘no’?” Rosa asked, narrowing her eyes.
“I mean no. I told you Jake doesn’t like me the way I like him and I have to do something before this crush ruins our friendship. Trust me, if he liked me he would’ve done something a long time ago.” You said honestly. Jake was the type of person who went for what he wanted.
“Y/N…” Amy began but you shook your head, quickly cutting her off.
“No Amy, he had his chance and nothing happened. I can’t just sit around alone just because he doesn’t like me.” You said and with that you left the room and entered Holt’s office ready for your meeting.
-
In the two months you’d been dating Liam you had noticed that you had barely seen Jake. When he found out you had started dating Liam he smiled, it was a painfully obvious fake smile, and told you he was happy for you before disappearing for the rest of the day.
In those two months you’d only seen Jake for work purposes though he wasn’t partnered up with you anymore. If the group went to the bar and you tagged along Jake would make up some excuse so that he didn’t have to go, so eventually you just stopped going all together.
It hurt more than you wanted to admit that Jake hadn’t fought for you, there was a small part of you that hoped by dating somebody Jake would admit he liked you but instead of that happening he just avoided you and your friendship.
That’s not to say Liam wasn’t good, he was, but with him you just felt…fine but with Jake you felt safe, loved, cared for, you felt fireworks just from your fingers brushing and you felt fearless as you worked together.
As you were feeling this way, it shouldn’t have surprised you when the fight happened.
-
“I tried to ignore it, you know, pretend that my girlfriend wasn’t into some other guy but come on!” Liam yelled. The conversation that started the argument wasn’t great, you accidentally brought up Jake’s name when talking about work causing the man to explode.
“There is nothing between me and Jake!” You told him honestly, causing him to laugh bitterly.
“Oh please, don’t act like there is nothing happening there! Everyone can see it all over your face.” Liam continued to yell, continued to tell you how you and Jake were probably sneaking around behind his back, calling you every name under the sun.
Finally, after what felt like hours of having abuse shouted at you, you left, ignoring the words of disgust he shouted at your retreating figure.
It was late at night and Liam had picked you up so you had no way to get home and no money to call a cab. You sighed as you scrolled through your contacts and tried calling Terry but there was no answer. You knew Rosa and Amy were on a stakeout so they couldn’t help and Charles was busier than ever with his kid.
So, that just left Jake.
With a sigh you sat down on the sidewalk. Would Jake even answer the phone? Despite everything that had happened between the two of you, you genuinely believed he’d pick up if you called but there was a small part of you that still hesitated before shaking your head and pressing the call button.
You listen to the ringing for a long time, almost ready to give up before you heard Jake’s groggy voice through the phone.
“Y/N?” He asked, clearly just having woken up.
“Sorry, I didn’t mean to wake you.” You said quietly into the phone.
“It’s fine,” he assured, “is everything ok?” Those were the words that sent you over the edge and you barely managed to suppress a sob as tears fell down your cheeks.
“Um, yeah, no, I just, I-” Jake frowned as he heard another sob.
“Hey, hey, hey, it’s ok. Just relax, Y/N/N, that’s it. What happened?” He asked after you’d calmed down a bit.
“Me and Liam we, um, got into a fight and he said some things,” Here you stopped to take a shaky breath, “I left.”
“I’m sorry Y/N/N.” He said, more sorry that you were so upset rather than you having broken up with the other man.
“This is your fault you know?” You laughed sadly into the phone, your emotions were all over the place right now and you knew you’d regret saying this tomorrow but you had too. “God, everyone always said we’d be perfect for each other, we were meant to be and you always laughed it off. I wanted you so damn badly Jake, you didn’t even fight for me. Even if you didn’t like me like that, you just let our friendship end. I wanted you to fight for me! That’s all I ever wanted!” You cried and Jake sat in bed with his mouth open as he registered your words.
The silence continued and you were about to hang up the phone when Jake replied.
“You like me?” He asked, stunned.
“You must have known.” Was your weak reply. Now it was out there, you finally admitting this secret, you felt light, you felt relieved. Even if Jake laughed at you, at least you’d said it.
“I would have fought so hard for you, Y/N/N, I, god, I like you so much. Every day I fall for you more and more, all I want, all I ever wanted from the day we met was you. You’re the one I want to dance around the kitchen with, you’re the one I want to take out, you’re the one who I want to lay on the couch with and talk about everything and nothing. It was always you, Y/N, and when you got with him, god, I knew then and there my chance was gone, I knew I’d blown it.” Jake admitted, surprised that he didn’t feel too nervous, he felt great, he felt confident. Even if too much time had passed at least he had said his piece.
“Jake?” You asked.
“Yeah Y/N/N?” Jake replied hesitantly.
“We’re both idiots.” Jake couldn’t help but laugh into the phone causing you to laugh too, the two of you were grinning like idiots.
“Where are you?” Jake asked and after he found out you weren’t too far away from him he offered to pick you up. With a shy smile you thanked him and hung up.
-
Soon enough you and Jake were sitting in his apartment.
“Listen, I know I’ve been a real jerk these last few months but seeing you with him…” Jake trailed off, turning away from you before continuing. “I’m really sorry. It wasn’t fair for me to take my feelings out on you, especially when I didn’t tell you how I felt.”
“I owe you an apology too-” You began but he quickly cut you off.
“No, you don’t. All you did was move on because I was too scared to say something.” Jake told you and whilst it was true you did feel guilty because this was a two way street and you could have told him how you felt.
“I was scared too.” You finally admitted after a few moments of silence causing Jake to smile shyly at you. With only a small amount of hesitation Jake reached over and brushed a strand of hair behind your ear, causing you to smile and melt into the touch.
“No more being scared, yeah?” Jake whispered as he leaned closer.
“Sounds good.” You replied just as quietly and with that Jake softly connected your lips together. His hand moves from your cheek to cup the nape of your neck as you kiss him back. The kiss itself is gentle but it was like every cheesy cliche ever, you felt fireworks as he kissed you, your skin tingled pleasantly as you felt his fingers lightly grazing your skin.
Maybe Amy was right, you thought as Jake pulled away and rested his forehead against you, smiling softly at you, maybe Jake was the one.

Prompts -36 - ‘We’re friends and both famous and we talk about each other in interviews because we're the biggest fans of the other and people ship us.’ except they’re not friends but they meet on like a talk show or red carpet, please!!!
Sometimes it felt like you didn’t stop but you loved your job more than anything. You were an actress most well known for your role in the Marvel movies though you did have fanbases in many other areas.
You had not long finished a new movie, it was a completely new style than you were used to, the role being that of a detective responsible for tracking down a world renowned serial killer.
Now that the movie was finished it was time for the press interviews which you were always super excited for. It wasn’t long before hair and make up was finished and you found yourself in a chair opposite an interviewer.
He had started off the interview by asking you the general questions one expects when doing press for a movie before he had asked you a question that made you smile.
“So obviously a big release in the past few weeks was from your fellow avenger Spider-Man.” The interviewer said, causing you to nod, “Have you had a chance to see it yet? What did you think of Jake Gyllenhaal as Mysterio?”
This would be a bit of an odd question to most people but over the years you’d begun talking more about Jake Gyllenhaal in your interviews than the actual movie you were promoting. It was the same for him too, you were both big fans of each other and it wasn’t long until the internet was shipping the two of you together like crazy.
“I have watched it, yeah, I managed to watch it the day it came out actually. Obviously I think Jake did an amazing job as always, he’s such an incredible actor, you know? I mean this isn’t really a role he’s done before but I think he really hit it out of the park.” You gushed meaning every word.
You did enjoy going online and seeing all the fans going wild over the two of you together considering you had never met the man.
“It’s too bad you couldn’t make an appearance in this movie, I think the two of you meeting would break the internet.” He said, causing the both of you to laugh.
“I think you’re right. Honestly, I tried so hard to be in that movie, even for a second. I went to the big bosses and I got Tom in on it too but unfortunately they rejected my request, so it’s another day in which I haven’t met Jake Gyllenhaal.” You said whilst laughing. “No but seriously, I think he’s absolutely incredible and the way he portrayed Mysterio was amazing!”
-
“Thank you for being here, Jake, Tom!” Jimmy said as he welcomed Tom and Jake onto the show. Spider-Man had been out for a while now but the two of them were still going out and doing the interviews together.
Again, the interview followed the same back and forth pace that people expected from talk shows but it wasn’t long before your name was mentioned.
“Is it true Y/N got you involved in trying to get her a part in this movie?” Jimmy asked whilst laughing.
“Oh my God, yes she did!” Tom replied, laughing himself, “So obviously her and Jake have massive crushes on each other,” He said, causing the audience to erupt into cheers. Jake rolled his eyes but there was a smile on his face. “But they haven’t actually met, so when I told Y/N/N that Jake was going to be in this movie she tried so hard to get in it. I think she even called Kevin Feige at one point and asked if she could have an unpaid role in the movie.”
“Wait really?” Jimmy said as everyone laughed along with the three men on stage. “How come you two haven’t met yet? I mean I feel like you’ve been together for years.”
“I don’t know, I honestly don’t know. I mean if the chance was there I’d take it in a second but for some reason we just, our paths haven’t crossed yet.” Jake explained, he really had wanted to meet you for so long but unfortunately it had just never happened.
“It’s so crazy though, I mean you two are friends with all the same people, like she’s super close with Hugh Jackman, it’s just crazy that you haven’t met.” Tom chuckled.
“Trust me man, I know, I’m making it my goal to meet her.” Jake laughed as everyone cheered.
The smile he got when talking about you never went even as the topic changed.

It was Oscar’s night and you were super excited having been nominated for best actress. You had spent hours in your hotel as you had your hair and make up done before you were being helped into the most beautiful Versace dress.
It wasn’t long before you were in the car and heading to the Dolby Theater. Your team was running through things you needed to know and do for the night and you listened, nodding along with what they were saying.
Soon enough you were in the middle of all the excitement. You made your way up to where celebrities were standing, turning as camera people shouted at you.
You smiled in each direction, making sure to throw a few poses each way too before you felt someone tap your shoulder. You turned around and your eyes widened as you saw Jake Gyllenhaal stood there with the biggest grin on his face.
“Hi!” He greeted loudly, grin widening as you smiled back at him.
“Hello there stranger.” You returned, completely forgetting about the many, many cameras on the pair of you.
Jake opened his arms to you and was quick to engulf you in a tight hug, you matching his grip.
“Thought I’d come and say hi before we never saw each other again.” He said with a laugh, causing you to giggle.
“Yeah it’s been a long time in the making.” You shot back. When he pulled away, he was still smiling, looking at you like you were the only person here.
“Y/N, Jake, this way!” A voice cut through causing you both to jump slightly before laughing.
“Sorry, didn’t mean to crash your photos.” He said but you just shook your head.
“Don’t be, you’re more than welcome to stay, I’m pretty sure these pictures might actually break the internet.” You joked and the two of you turned to the cameras, Jake’s arm resting on your waist as you leaned into him.
The two of you stayed there for a few moments before you were being ushered off and into the interview part of the carpet.
“Y/F/N Y/L/N and Jake Gyllenhaal, together for the first time ever!” The interviewer exclaimed, causing you all to laugh.
“I saw her out there, man, and I couldn’t resist.” Jake said, making you smile.
“I don’t blame you, who knows when you would’ve met otherwise. You both look amazing by the way, who are you wearing?” The man asked as he held the mic out to you.
“I’m head to toe in Versace tonight and I absolutely love it.” You said before turning to Jake.
“And you, Jake?” He asked.
“Well first of all, Y/N, you look stunning tonight.” He said, causing you to try desperately to hide a blush as he explained who he was wearing.
Meeting Jake in person was strange, it was like you already knew him. Somehow, despite literally knowing him for a handful of minuets, he managed to give you butterflies. It was something that had never happened before.
You both spoke about and praised each other’s movies before you were heading off to the next interviewer.
“It was great talking to you guys, you look incredible together, good luck for tonight!” The final interviewer said, something all the others had said too. Despite denying the fact that you two were together multiple times tonight you knew people wouldn’t believe it.
-
“I’m sorry about that, I was only coming over to say hello.” Jake said once the two of you were in the venue and it had quietened down significantly.
“Oh please, don’t worry about it, we both know how fast paced these things are.” You said, causing him to nod in agreement. “It was great to finally meet you though.”
“It’s great to meet you too! I really am a big fan.” He told you and the two of you were more than content to talk with each other in an isolated corner of the room before you were all being directed to your seats.
“Are you going to the after party?” Jake asked before the two of you separated.
“Yeah, are you?” You really wanted to spend more time with the man. Somehow in the course of half an hour you had managed to become enchanted by him.
“I am. Would you, maybe, want to go with me?” You tried not to blush, you really did but failed miserably. The smile on your face spoke volumes about how much you wanted that anyway.
“I’d love to go with you.” You told him sincerely.
The two of you were forced to part ways after that as the staff insisted you go to your seats.
-
“Jake’s presenting best actress?” You whispered to your co-star as Jake took to the stage.
“Apparently the person who was supposed to be doing it got sick, so they asked him to step in.” Benedict explained, causing you to nod.
Jake’s opening speech was great and soon he was announcing the nominees.
“Here are the five, incredibly inspiring, women who are nominated tonight. Emma Stone, Melissa McCarthy, Margot Robbie, Scarlett Johansson and Y/F/N Y/L/N. And the Oscar goes to…” Here Jake paused to open the envelope, a grin spreading across his face, “Y/F/N Y/L/N!”
In seconds you were surrounded by people hugging and congratulating you. You heard cheering and barely registered the walk up to the stage. You did register Jake wrapping you in a hug,
“Congratulations, Y/N, you deserve it.” He whispered, causing you to blush again.
He pulled away from you to leaning down to press a kiss to your cheek before he handed you your award and gestured for you to approach the microphone.
“Wow, ok, um, hold on a sec.” You said, causing everyone to laugh. “Um, first of all, thank you Jake, I couldn’t have asked for anyone better to give me this award. God, this is an unbelievable honour. Um, I also want to thank Benedict Cumberbatch who pushed me and inspired me so much everyday, thank you. Thank you to all the amazing cast and crew for this movie, you have been so incredible to work with. Oh, I know I’m going to forget somebody. Thank you to my family for believing in me everyday. Thank you to the fans, you’ve been amazing to me for so many years. Um, yeah, thank you so much, have a great night!” You said before turning around. Jake held his arm out to you causing you to smile gratefully as he helped you down the stairs.
Backstage he tugged you into another hug, the two of you grinning like fools.
“I have to get back out there for my category but seriously, that was a well deserved win, congratulations.” He told you, the look in his eyes showing how sincere he was.
“Thank you so much!” You exclaimed, still feeling the adrenaline pumping through you. “Good luck!” And before you could stop yourself you leaned up and kissed his cheeks causing his smile to turn shy.
God, you couldn’t wait to see him again.

Notes - We're celebrating Red (Taylor's Version) here and I'll be doing imagines for each song on the album so if you have a request (any fandom I write for) send it in!
You never saw him coming. It was like one day the universe had decided it was going to stop screwing you over and finally give you something good. Everything about him was so amazingly unique, he was everything you’d wanted in a person, everything a person should be and somehow he had decided you were something special too.
That morning you made the short walk to the cafe you frequently went to before work, passing a blur of cars only slowing down as the traffic lights changed. The streets were busy despite the earliness, shades of red painted the sky in the morning hours and birds could barely be heard chirping over the noise of the cars.
Despite the music in your ears your thoughts were on the failure of last night's blind date. It was one of many, your friends determined that you needed a partner but after your last relationship, dating was honestly the last thing you wanted to do but you relented and went out with the guys they found. Your last boyfriend had been horrible. He was sweet in the beginning but as time went on… You’d tried to leave the relationship so many times but you just couldn’t. Eventually you had managed to leave, packing your bags and leaving for good.
And now you were stuck being set up because your friends thought a relationship would help, it had been long enough they had told you. Sure they were right, it had been a while since you left your ex but each date they set you up on was just…boring. None of the men were able to hold an intellectual conversation, all of them were just very plain. The last guy was a creep to say the least, something about him made you feel very uneasy. It wasn’t even anything in particular he said but just a feeling, the way he looked at you…it set all the internal warning alarms off.
Thankfully you were able to politely decline his advances for him to come to your house and get back home safely. You had told yourself that was the last date you were going on and that’s when he came into your life and you’d never be the same again.
-
“Excuse me,” A soft voice said, interrupting you from the page you were reading. Looking up you saw a man, his eyes were bright and kind and there was a gentle smile on his face. He looked down at you, fidgeting with the bag on his shoulder. “I’m so sorry to disturb you, I was just wondering if it would be ok if I sat here?” He asked, gesturing to the empty seat across from you.
You scanned the cafe quickly, taking note of how it had filled since you’d walked in before turning your attention back to the man in front of you. He was a handsome looking man, with sharp cheekbones and long hair that looked soft. He was wearing a suit and you guessed he was on his way to work and, like you, was early enough to enjoy a hot drink in the small cafe. He seemed kind, there was something about him that seemed trustworthy.
You smiled up at him and gestured towards the seat, “Of course.”
“Thank you so much.” He smiled, shrugging his bag off and sitting down opposite you.
You didn’t want to stare at him, you tried to turn your attention back to the book in your hands but it was near impossible. Biting your lip, you risked a glance up and saw he was looking out of the window at the different people passing, his drink warming his hands, before he turned in your direction. You were quick to look away but he continued to look at you, glancing down at the book you had been reading.
“Sherlock?” He asked, a grin spreading across his face.
“My friend suggested that I read it,” You smiled back.
“What do you think so far?” Somehow, just from looking at the man across from you, it didn’t surprise you that he was a reader, of course you wouldn’t know yet just how much he read but right now it just made sense.
“I’m actually really enjoying it. I was a little apprehensive considering it was written so long ago but it’s really good.” You watched as his face lit us as you spoke, eyes wide as he listened to yours words, nodding along with you.
“I think Doyle’s writing, despite being written in 1892, is very much still readable to this day. That’s one of the many great things about his writing…” And with that the man began to ramble on about how the writing style, the use of imagery and how well the plot develops.
You rested your chin on your fist, leaning forward in your seat as the man spoke. You couldn’t help but smile as his hands gestured widely in front of him, the passion he spoke with was beautiful to watch. The man before you was so unashamedly expressive in sharing his thoughts and opinions with you and you could do little more than listen, captivated by him, nodding along as you took in his words.
Your eyebrows knitted together as he cut himself off abruptly, his cheeks turning red as he looked down at his lap.
“I’m sorry, usually people stop me when I start rambling. I’ve already distracted you and here I am now not letting you read-“ He was saying but you cut him off.
“Hey, I was actually enjoying listening to you. Not many people are able to hold a conversation about classic literature, yet alone with the passion you have.” You told him, smiling softly as his cheeks flushed some more but the frown was gone and a smile made its way back onto his face. Good, you thought, he looks so much better when he’s smiling.
“Yeah,” He said with a bashful laugh, “I quite enjoy reading, though I rarely get a chance to talk about the things I’ve read.”
“Same here,” You told him, though you doubted you liked to read as much as him, the man seemed like the type to have full bookcases and then more books scattered throughout his house.
The man went to speak but was cut off by the ringing off his phone, he shot you an apologetic smile before fishing the phone out of his pocket.
“Hey,” He answered, the smile dropping from his face as the person on the phone spoke. His face grew serious as he nodded to whatever information he was being given, “I’ll be in soon, alright, bye.”
“Sorry about that.” He said, turning back to you.
“No problem, I should get to work too.” You smiled and began to pack your phone and book away. The man stood when you did and the two of you walked out of the cafe together, you smiling as he held the door open for you to step out first.
“Hey, um, I don’t,” the man began, clearing his throat and he shuffled on his feet, “I don’t normally do this, ever,” here he paused to let out an awkward, breathy laugh, “but would it maybe, and totally say no if I’m overstepping, but would it be ok if I gave you my number? I’m really curious to see what you’ll think about the book.”
You couldn’t help the soft smile that spread across your face. The man in front of you was charmingly awkward right now, making it obvious that his statement of not doing this much was true. Though you had said you were done with guys and dating, you wanted this one to give you his number and you wanted to speak to him again.
“I’d like that.” You told him honestly, laughing as he looked at you in slight shock for a second before nodding. You pulled your phone out and let him enter his phone number.
“It really was great meeting you…” He said before trailing off, looking at you curiously.
“Y/F/N, Y/F/N Y/L/N.” You told him, watching as he smiled before repeating it to himself.
“It was really great meeting you, Y/N. I’m Spencer Reid by the way.” He told you with a dimpled smile.
“It was great meeting you too.” You said, shocked by how much you meant it. The two of you stood outside of the cafe for a moment, just smiling at each other before you cleared your throat. “I should let you get to work.”
“Right, right, you too!” He said, still making no move to leave causing your smile to grow.
“I’ll call you.” You promise, watching as he nodded.
“I hope so.” He said softly before wishing you a good day and heading in the opposite direction to you.
You had never saw him coming and things would never be the same.
-
You called Spencer that evening, filling him in on the latest chapters you’d read, him happily listening with a grin on his face and adding his own thoughts and opinions throughout. You were surprised with how easy it was to talk to him, it felt like you had known him for your whole life, like meeting an old friend who you had fallen out of touch with before being thrown back into each other's life again.
The two of you spoke for at least two hours, both with wide smiles on your faces and butterflies in your stomach.
As the time began to dawn on the two of you, you both began to say your goodnight but before you could hand up the phone Spencer stopped you.
“Wait,” He said, louder than either you had been speaking, causing you to raise an eyebrow. “Would you like to go out for dinner?” The way he asked made it sound like he was shocking himself.
You couldn’t help but smile to yourself. You had meant it this morning when you said you were done with dating, the men your friends had set you up with were either dreadfully dull, only there to get in your pants or creeps…or a mix of all three. But Spencer, there was something about Spencer that immediately put you at ease, his non threatening demeanour made you feel safe around him and, as shown through the two and a half hour phone call tonight, he was anything but boring. The way he spoke, even across the phone, was lively, it was endearing and you found yourself wanting to see him again.
“I’d love to.” You told him honestly.
“Oh,” he said, causing you to laugh, “that’s great, really great. Um, I’ll let you know when I’m back and we can figure something out if that’s ok with you?”
“Yeah, that’s fine,” you said before pausing, titling your head in confusion, “Wait, where are you?”
“I’m in California. I work for the FBI’’s Behavioral Analysis Unit.” He told him, causing your eyebrow to furrow together before it clicked.
“You’re a profiler?” You asked.
“Is that ok?” He asked back, knowing that this could be the dealbreaker and he’d understand, he really would, this job was dangerous and he knew that would take a toll on any partners.
You thought it over for a moment, as dangerous as the job seemed, you wanted to get to know Spencer.
“Let me know when you’re back in town.” You said, causing him to smile widely to himself.
“I will,” he told you softly, “Goodnight, Y/N.”
“Goodnight Spencer.” You before hanging up the phone and throwing yourself back onto your bed with a grin.
Spencer had a smile on his face that he could wipe off if he tried and he held the phone tightly in his hands. He was sitting outside, the sun had just been setting when you had first called him. He was in his hotel room with Derek but upon hearing your voice he excused himself to go sit outside the hotel he was staying at, a jacket thrown over his shoulders to combat the slight chill of the autumn air.
He sat there for a few minutes before he made his way back to his room, fully prepared for the grin that Derek shot him as he walked in. Derek let Spencer go about his nightly routine and waited until the younger profiler had sat down on his own bed before speaking up.
“C’mon kid, talk to me.” He exclaimed, watching as Spencer rolled his eyes but a smile worked its way onto his face, “Who’s the girl?”
Spencer debated it for a moment before sighing dramatically causing Derek’s grin to widen, if it were possible.
“Her name is Y/N, I met her this morning before we got called in and I’m taking her out when we get back.” He told Derek who let out a laugh of disbelief.
“Spencer Reid, my man!” He laughed, standing to clap a hand on Spencer’s shoulder.
Spencer couldn’t help but grin up at Derek. They both knew how something like this was not something Spencer did…ever but it felt right with you. He wanted to get to know you, even if it meant stepping outside of his comfort zone.
“She must be one hell of a girl.” Derek said, making his way to the bathroom with a grin firmly in place. He was happy for the kid, it was about time he got a break.
Spencer didn’t disagree with Derek’s statement as he settled into bed, already planning on what to do for your date.

“Wow,” Spencer said, feeling speechless, “you look stunning.” He said, finally causing you to blush widely.
“Thank you,” You smiled, looking him up and down, “You’re looking pretty stunning too.” You told him, watching as his own blush spread across his cheeks.
“Thank you,” He smiled shyly, looking down before looking at you, holding an arm out for you to take before leading you to the car and holding the door open for you. You smiled softly at him before climbing in, smoothing your dress out nervously as he made his way to the drivers side.
It wasn’t long before the two were seated, conversation flowing easily between the two of you.
“He gave your number to the press?” You asked through your laughter, Spencer sat opposite you laughing himself, dimples on full display.
“Yeah, gave them my name and everything and Morgan’s a, he's good with women so obviously my phone was ringing constantly.” He continued, watching as you smiled brightly as you laughed along.
“Did you at least get him back?” You giggled watching as Spencer smirked.
“I went to MIT and let’s just say never wage a prank war on an MIT graduate.” He laughed, causing you to groan.
“What did you do?”
As Spencer continued to tell you about his and Derek’s prank war you couldn’t help but laugh along. You couldn’t remember the last time you had this much fun, though you tried to pretend you were happy when you were with your ex you knew, if you were being honest with yourself, that you were lying. You wanted so badly to make it work that you managed to fool yourself for a long time, bending over backwards in order to please him and it still wasn’t enough. No amount of effort was enough.
But here, now, with Spencer…you felt so much better than you had in a long, long time. It was like a weight had been lifted off you, a weight you didn’t know you were still carrying. Sitting here with tears of laughter in your eyes rather than tears of anger, tears of sadness…it was a feeling you had long forgotten.
“I had a wonderful night, Y/N.'' Spencer smiled, once he had pulled back up to your house he was quick to open your car door, taking your hand delicately in his before leading you up to your door.
“Me too.” You told him sincerely. It had been so long since you’d felt this genuinely happy, you were shocked with how easy everything with Spencer was, he really did have a way of soothing your nerves, making you feel safe and calm around him, like you had known him your whole life.
You hoped that he was sincere when he said he’d had a good time because you wanted to see him again. God, did you want to see him again. Everything about him was so unique, he made it easy to be yourself, made you want to be yourself.
“Can I see you again?” He asked and you beamed up at him, the smile one that you couldn’t hide even if you tried. Spencer mirrored the expression, taking it as a good sign.
“Yeah,” you said with a giggle, Spencer's grin fading into a soft smile as he brushed a piece of hair behind your ear. “I’d really like that.”
He took a moment to just look at you, the soft light of the moon and the street lamps created an amber glow making you look beautiful.
Spencer leaned down, slowly to give you time to move, before he pressed his lips gently to your cheek, letting them linger for a moment before he pulled away.
“Goodnight Y/N.” He said softly, not wanting to break the atmosphere between you two.
“Goodnight Spencer.” You said, smiling softly and matching his tone, before turning to open your door and waving him goodbye.

You may not have saw Spencer coming into your life but you were so glad he had. As time went on and the two of you went on several more dates you could feel the armor, the walls you’d built up, beginning to fall with each conversation, each text through the day asking how you were, each night he walked you to your door, kissing you softly, each time he listened to you, each time he let you be yourself. It was so different to anything you had ever experienced before.
Right now you and Spencer were in his apartment, your head resting on his bare chest with his arm around your waist, fingers absentmindedly drawing patterns against your skin. The air was hot but a window had been opened, letting fresh cold air in.
Being with Spencer felt like the slate was clean, you never thought about your ex anymore, you didn’t feel the bone aching sadness you tried to deny, you just felt…happy. It was like being in a state of grace. Your heart was broken after the pain and suffering at the hands of your ex but being with Spencer, it was like your heart had healed itself, all the pieces slotting back together to create a mosaic heart.
You knew you were in love with him, it would be impossible not to be. Spencer Reid was everything good in this world, even though his experiences were enough to turn anybody down a dark path, he stayed good, he stayed honest, he stayed a genuinely decent person.
Here and now, listening to Spencer as he read to you, voice low, the sound of his heartbeat in your ear…you knew love could be a ruthless game, you’d been hurt before but if you played it good and right you knew this relationship could be the best thing in your life. So far everything was going great and you didn’t intend for that to change.
It was like fate had brought the two of you together, both of you had gone through so much, you with a borderline abusive relationship and Spencer with all the horrors and torments he had gone through on the job, all that and fate decided to give you a break and bring you into each other's lives.
Your relationship with Spencer was like the golden age; it was great, it was happy and it gave you both a sense of peace. Being with each other, it was easy, sure there were arguments and there were struggles but it was a worthwhile fight to end up with each other.
Spencer looked down at you, eyes closed and lashes resting upon your cheeks. You looked beautiful despite your messy hair and flushed cheeks that remained from your earlier activities in the bed. He had known how he felt about you for a long time now but he kept putting off saying it aloud, he wanted it to be perfect. He wanted everything to be a certain way when he finally said those words. It was only after a conversation with Rossi that he realised it would never be perfect, it just had to feel right to him.
And here in this bed, you tucked against his side, this was right. This was what he wanted for the rest of his life. He wanted you. And wasn’t that an overwhelming thought at first, wasn’t that a thought that drove him into Rossi’s office to begin with, utterly panicked because he had never felt like this before. But wasn’t it an amazing thought, wasn’t this what most people spent their lives only thinking about and here he was, somehow lucky enough to find you, somehow lucky enough that you wanted him too. Wasn’t it a breathtaking thought?
Spencer had paused abruptly, causing you to look up at him. He was already looking at you, his eyes soft and a smile playing at his lips. You raised your eyebrow up at him in curiosity.
“What are you thinking about, Spence?” You asked quietly, reluctant to break the peacefulness that had settled between the two of you.
Spencer remained silent for a minute, pondering whether or not he should tell you. You watched as he raised his hand, running his knuckles along your cheek softly before turning his hand so his palm could cup your cheek, his thumb running along your cheekbone.
“I love you.” He said softly, watching as your eyes widened before a smile took over your face. He could feel your entire face shift under his hand, could feel your cheeks heat at the words.
You leaned up, softly letting your lips connect with his. Spencer didn’t hesitate in kissing you back, his other hand coming up to cup your other cheek whilst your arm lay across his waist. The kiss was slow, soft lips moving against each other, the two of you completely relaxed in each other's hold.
Though the kiss was soft and slow the two of you pulled away breathless.
“I love you too.” You confessed before attaching your lips to his again, trying to convey just how much you meant those words.
Again the two of you pulled away, breathless. Spencer pulled you against him, letting his lips rest against the top of your head before he turned and let his cheek rest there instead.
“I still don’t know how I got this lucky.” Spencer told you quietly, causing you to tighten your hold on him.
“I’m the lucky one,” you chuckled, “The day I met you I had sworn off dating, I never saw you coming and I’ll never be the same again because of you.”
Spencer pulled back, looking down at you with bright, shining eyes.
“God, I love you.” He murmured before pressing his lips to yours, the complete opposite to how he had before. This kiss was like the best kind of fireworks going off all at once, it made you hot and you kissed back with as much passion as he was given.
Thankfully both of you had the day off and spent that time showing each other just how much you loved the other.
You’d never intended to fall into a relationship again, you had thought you weren’t ready, thought you were too damaged but Spencer Reid had come along exactly when you needed him and showed you how wrong you were.
