Hot take but manipulation isn’t a bad thing.

The entire premise of society is based on manipulation. When a child is crying or angry, you might give them some chocolate to make them stop. That is manipulation. When you want a promotion, you might try suck up to your boss and work harder than usual. That is manipulation. Favours are basically acknowledged and welcomed manipulation. The whole thing is about doing something for someone so they can do something for you.

Society wouldn’t function without manipulation. It’s only when people talk about the functions of society for what they are that people don’t like it.

It’s so hard to be a good person in the eyes of society when every time you try you “aren’t doing it right”.

I’m not doing good things “for the right reason”.

I’m not loving “in the selfless way”.

I’m not caring “with the right definition”.

They wonder why we just give up and it’s because nothing is ever fucking good enough.
