Except I don’t claim to be punk. I claim to be an anarchist, and love some punk music, but don’t call myself punk.
A. People have been saying that for years. I remember hearing the same thing in 2020. Im sick and tired of “vote blue, no matter who” mindset, as it is absolutely fucking garbage.
B. Okay, that’s fair, at least on the sewing part as not everyone has a thrift store in their local area.
C. Okay, at the very least you consider kinds of punk that aren’t first wave punk punk. I was thinking for a second that you, much like most of r/punk, don’t consider anything that isn’t from the first wave era or the 90s era of punk to be “real” punkFor a second there, I sorta figured you were the kind of person who would claim that something like folk punk isn’t real punk (also, AJJ is a folk punk band, The Clash were like one of the original punk bands, and Mother Mother is Mother Mother. Don’t know how else to describe them really.)
D. I agree. Never said that dressing punk was important. I mean, the Dead Kennedys dressed like regular dudes for a lot of shows, but we’re undeniably punk. So I’m glad we’re able to agree on 3/4 fronts, at least.

I’ve seen “punks” with back the blue patches, “goths” for trump, ect ect. You are not a fucking punk if you support the police, or if you vote red, or if you bully gay/trans people
You can’t be punk and apathetic, just “oh I’m not voting they both suck 🥺” you are a whiny ass liberal
You can’t be punk and drive a fucking Tesla, or buy mass quantities of SHEIN and Temu.
You’re also not a punk if you shit talk and refuse to listen to the music, but that’s definitely less important than the political stuff

Been on the hunt for some kick ass platforms for a while now, which has proven difficult when you try not to throw money to just any company and you have freaking massive feet. So when I found these platform American Eagle sandals at the thrift for four bucks I knew my time had come. So some locktight, painter's tape and half a bottle of white fabric paint later, here we have it! My reason for exiting my house at all in the summer! Seriously though, so obsessed with how these turned out.
Really wanna try these but I do not trust my ability to paint that small dude
simple tutorial on how to make those bottlecap buttons you see everywhere
you'll need:
bottlecap•soda tab•safety pin•pliers•sandpaper/file•paint/paint markers/smth to decorate with•clear nail polish
remove the print on the buttons using a file or the sandpaper
(if you wanna keep the print skip this step, use a cloth to protect the print from scratches when folding down the sides of the cap)
fold down opposing sides of the cap, to help add in the safety pin
bend the tab at a slight angle, insert it into the cap. make sure the side of the safety pin that can not open is the one stuck under the tab
fold down one side of the cap to lock the tab in place, then try and press the tab as flat as you can, to lock the safety pin in place (prevents the buttons from moving on the safety pin, if you like rattling buttons, skip this step)
fold down all other sides of the cap
cover the button in one or more base layers of paint
add ur design (i use paint or paint markers for good coverage and vibrant colors)
cover that in one or two layers of nail polish, it will protect the button from rain and the paint from cracking
thats it, lemme know if you want tutorials on anything else, i like making em.
Gonna be honest, my current crust/battle jacket is much the same as what you just described. Not in design; my jacket has a much more streamlined and put together look than most others I've seen. But it's absolutely an atrocious band mishmash, no doubt about it, and I designed it that way. Since I have a place in my heart for each subculture, I wanted my jacket to reflect that. My goal making that crust item wasn't to make something as punk or metal as possible, it was to make something authentic to myself.
Your battle jacket is an art piece and reflection of yourself in addition to a statement. It's a shred of identity. Thus, I have a rapper on the bottom hem of my rocker jacket. He saved my life years ago. He's part of my history. Is he punk? No. Is there a piece of me in his symbol? Absolutely. Also on the jacket is the band that introduced me to metal and the band that introduced me to rock in general. Right alongside an emo artist group that has helped me fight my addiction. I wanted my jacket to be more than a political conversation piece. I wanted it to tell my story.
However messy and embarrassing, I'm sure your old jacket tells a great story. And I'm also sure your wip is gonna turn out amazing!
Can we talk more about the transitional phase between normie and alternative? Because we all did some corny shiz back then. Very poser behavior. And I think we all need to talk about it. Cleanse our souls.
I feel like the "I call myself emo but I don't even understand what that means" starter pack is a tattoo choker, a pair of black plain cross earrings and a band tee for a wildly popular rock band that isn't even really emo like AC/DC or Misfits or something. Or that Nirvana t-shirt, you know the one I'm talking about. If I see that shirt one more time, I'm gonna puke.
It's like you looked around Walmart for anything at all black so you could fit in with the edgy kids at school. It's like those "emo transformation" TikToks but... but this isn't a game to you, this is normal Tuesday behavior. Who is three or four years deep into alt culture and still wearing this outfit? Cuz I wore this outfit when I was probably thirteen... for about a year... never again. Also had a leather jacket that you could not peel off my body. I ran that thing into the ground.
Don't even get me started on how we all labeled everything "emo" that clearly was not- especially music. Who was gonna tell us emo was not a synonym for edgy and sad?
Anyways, I ended up donating those cross earrings to a nearby blossoming baby bat and burned the tattoo chokers a LOOONG time ago. They no longer have power over me. I'm a free woman.
