Sylki Rewrite

Sylki Rewrite

(Note: Although I don’t like Sylki, I don’t have a problem with anyone who ships them.) Warning: Internalized Homophobia Mention

Two weeks ago, I binged the Loki series. To put it shortly, I loved it! Loki has one of the best character development I’ve ever seen. He moved past his insecurities and realized what he truly wanted- to be loved and seen. The time aspect was easy to digest and didn’t complicate or overinflate the concept too much. I loved the new characters, especially Mobius and O.B. Mobius and Loki’s chemistry was amazing and so natural, which makes sense since Mobius was his first friend. O.B. was lovable and so nerdy. I hope they both return to future projects. Though I didn’t connect with her as much, B-15 was a good addition, and would be happy to see her return. When it comes to Sylvie, I'm mixed with her. She’s well-written for the most part, but I didn’t like the Sylki romance in S1, and her attitude got irritating in S2 (I'll most likely write a separate post on it). Alongside thinking Loki being attracted to a version of himself is weird, their romance felt rushed and unnatural. I couldn’t really see Loki being attracted to/like/in love with someone that quickly and Sylvie looked like she barely tolerated him, even in the second season. Honestly, I think this romance was pushed by Disney instead of the writers, mainly because there was a moment in Episode 4 where Mobius rants about how strange the attraction was. I’d like to think that was the writers calling out Disney for how weird this idea was. I would’ve liked it more if Loki and Sylvie had a sibling-like relationship. I would’ve written it where Loki feels protective of Sylvie because he sees a bit of himself in her such as his anger, loneliness, and wish to belong somewhere. But, he also respects her because she lived alone and in survival mode, teaching herself how to use magic and escape death. In turn, Sylvie sort of resents Loki, especially when he mentions his relationship with Frigga, since he lived in Asgard and had a family while she lived alone and in fear. I would have a scene where Sylvie lashes out at him (maybe when he accidentally breaks the Tempad), calling him a fool for taking his family’s love for granted. On the other hand, Loki snapped and said how she had the chance to be her true self while Loki lived under Thor’s shadow and Asgard’s expectations. Maybe go as far as to mention how he felt he had to hide his bisexuality and genderfluidity out of fear of not being accepted. By the end of the argument, both realize how their pain does not absolve others and that there is good and bad in their lives. Other than the kiss scene, the scene with Loki trying to stop Sylvie from killing He Who Remains was great.

I was so glad S2 left the ship behind. It was one of the reasons why I think S2 is a big improvement. I can’t really describe their relationship since there are moments when they get along but there are others when Sylvie is really standoffish and doesn't seem to like Loki. Maybe the closest description would be bickering siblings, which is close to what I wanted.

Did anyone else get nervous that there would be a Sylki kiss in the S2 finale? I was, especially when he was trying to stop her from killing HWR again. If they did, it would've messed with my enjoyment since there was no indication in previous episodes that they were continuing the romance. Thankfully, they didn't and the finale was perfect, even if it broke my heart that Loki will live alone for as long as he's alive. I wanted him to be happy with everyone.

Tales of Asgard

Season 2

Some time has passed. They are young adults now.

Balder is much less part of the group now. He still counsels and trains Thor and has taken Algrim's role as advisor to Odin. We see his romance with Nanna blossom over the next few episodes.

Episode 1

Langobards

A tale from Frigga about the "bearded women" (Langobards).

The story is in the above article under attestations.

A group of Winniles, settled in a new country some years past, were given a demand by the Vandals of tribute or battle.

The matriarch of the Winniles, Gambara, thought they should not weigh down their new nation with years of tributes. They had to fight to be free. Though they were brave and skilled, they were fewer than the Vandals.

The Vandals asked Odin for favour in battle. Odin merely stated;

"Those that first catch my eye at sunrise, shall be granted victory."

Gambara sought the help of Frigga who advised;

Come from the East at dawn, bring your long haired women with you. Let their hair down, arranged around the face like a beard"

Frigga made sure to turn the bed around and rolled Odin over to face the east. On waking he couldn't help but notice these pretty bearded folk, saying;

"Who are these longbeards?"

Frigga replied;

"As these Longbeards, as you named them, have caught your eye first, you must give them the promised victory."

The thematic link here is winning with your brain, which of course Thor does not heed. Also a variation on bearded ladies.

Then...

Thor has lost Mjölnir to an unnamed thief (implied to be Loki, but without Thor realising). Thor is at once livid and distraught. Loki becomes a bird (claiming it is the one thing Odin taught him) and "discovers" an Utgard giant (Thrym) has it and wants Sif's hand in marriage as ransom. Sif, of course, flatly refuses so Thor has to pretend to be Sif (in the norse legend this is Freya, but Sif is again swapped in to keep things simple). Loki changes gender (does he look like Sylvie? Because that would bring an extra level of weird to Loki's TV series) to be handmaiden to Thor's heavily veiled "Sif". Handmaiden Loki helps "Sif" to get through the wedding dinner (including excusing "Sif's" extraordinary appetite). Mjölnir is eventually revealed and Thor takes his revenge. At the end, Loki reveals to Sigyn that he secretly got paid for both jobs.

Tales of Asgard

Series 2, Episode 5

Balder the Brave part II

Again, this is mostly taken from The Warriors Teen comic. The main difference being that they are not teens here but young adults. And also they wear proper armour instead of tunics. The storyline was a good fit for where I wanted to take the characters and only needed a few little tweaks.

We join our trio sunbathing and bantering before making their way through the temperate rainforest to the dunes at the edge of Asgard where the mines of Jennia plunge below the surface of the desert.

Unlike the blatant excuse to build some sexual tension in the comics, Sif and the boys go to bathe separately. Loki uses illusion to mimic the boys and Sif and manages to separate them. Thor rushes back to Sif who is dressed and drying her hair. He realises it was a trick and they race to Balder who is being strangled by enchanted vines. They manage to free him in time.

Sif says Loki is here. Balder croakily concurs. Thor is wavering now. He calls Loki. Loki, of course, silently presses himself into the foliage. Balder croaks they should get out into the open.

They go back to get their gear from where they were sunbathing and are worried. If it was Loki, he seemed to be trying to kill Balder. It could be any one of them next. If it's not Loki they possess a very similar skillset. Thor asks why anyone would be trying to kill them? Let alone their brother. Sif says he's no brother of mine.

They warily set up camp in silence. Thor wants to take first watch but Sif insists. The boys have a heart to heart about the current state of their family. Sif tells them to get some sleep.

The mirror user observes the tense trio and notes that Odin's other son is glowering in the treeline. An unwitting ally as she says in the comics.

The next day there are a few quips but the group is not as bantery as before. No sexist comments from Thor like the comic though.

Also, Sif does not suddenly go all girly at the thought of jewels as in the comic.

Then gang are suddenly swallowed by quicksand one by one. Loki approaches and appears to shed a tear as he proclaims it done, though not by his hand. Then he too sinks.

The trio come to in a chamber surrounded by strange childlike creatures with glowing red eyes. Thor, already riled up tries to bat them away and they start to swarm him. They start to creep onto Sif as well. Balder recognises them as the Jennia, keepers of the jewels. The feed on emotion. He advises the others to be calm and rid themselves of emotion. They do and the Jennia retreat, leaving a jewel.

When Sif states that anyone with hatred in their heart would be in for a worser fate, we expect to see Loki engulfed by Jennia. Instead we cut to Loki having been rescued/captured by the magic mirror user who is revealed to be...Karnilla...

Karnilla is the Norn Queen and believes that Odin owes a large unpaid debt to the Fates of Norn as he gained knowledge of the runes without permission.

"Such powerful magic for less than half a soul? We would have charged a much steeper price if we had known."

The Fates (Skuld, Verandi and Urd) warn Loki that Odin will pay a terrible price. Karnilla says "exactly ". Loki tries to pretend he doesn't care. Verandi tells him that he longs for Odin to love him the way he loves his other sons. She tells them to be quiet, how Loki has no love for family. How she has seen him trying to murder both his brothers and their companion.

Urd says he made a pact with hatred.

Karnilla asks her elderly assistant Haag to still their wagging tongues.

K: How hard can it be to destabilise a royal family?

That first ungrateful wench...you give a girl a little power and...

Ah sorry, you can't speak about her at the moment can you?

Then if your foolish wife hadn't actually fallen in love with you this could all have been done by now.

L: Sigyn? You sent her?

K: Where do you think she learned all those things that your mother wouldn't teach you? She thought I was putting you on the throne. I just wanted the chaos.

But she had to get herself thrown in jail defending you. Now I shall just have to take care of things myself.

Cut to the trio in the forests of Lilitha. Thor is nostalgic for swimming and climbing there in his childhood. Balder has noticed the trees seem to be dying.

The comics go in for some love triangle nonsense here. Not us.

Then Loki apparates in, tears in his eyes, genuinely conflicted.

Thor asks him how he has appeared here and why? Has Odin sent him? Is Asgard in trouble?

Loki names Karnilla and tells of her plot to kill Odin and take Asgard with the Utgard giants and the creatures of Niflheim. How she captured him while he followed them and tried to turn him against Asgard. He refused, she admired his previously unobserved backbone and weirdly kissed him. This allowed him to steal a little of her power, which meant he could apparate.

Sif is enraged! She knew Loki had been conspiring against them! How he nearly killed Balder. The spiders...that was you too wasn't it?

Loki lies and says it was all Karnilla.

Sif wants to run him through with her blade. Balder muses that it could be a plot to make them fail the quest.

Thor puts it to him, Loki says no even after everything he still loves father and that he needs them all. They (Thor and Balder that is) choose to believe him.

Loki conjures them horses from the fallen leaves (they are stunned by his magic prowess, this makes Sif a little more suspicious) and they ride to Asgard. Thor stays to finish the quest as Odin may want Svadren for the fight. Loki leaves a horse for him.

He fights a conjured stone golem which he assumes was conjured by Karnilla. He fights with particular fierceness as he has no time to waste. When he finally reaches the lake he sees it is dry. Magically drained. He scoops some into a bottle as a reminder to never fail again then rides like the wind to Asgard.

He finds it under assault by the forces of Niflheim (giants, orcs, ogres and goblins) and storms his way through. This rallies the troops.

Thor finds Sif and Balder and tells them the quest has failed.

Odin battles his way to them and tells them there will be no talk of failure. Defend Asgard!

Thor, Sif and the Warriors Three defend one side of the gate, Balder and Heimdall the other. Odin holds fast in the middle. Einherjar are positioned strategically. Loki is murdering Niflheimers too.

They hold fast. The Utgard Giants et al, see defeat is coming and decide to retreat.

Just as the celebrations begin Karnilla apparates in and shoots Thor straight through the heart with an arrow. Then she apperates into the throne room. Balder warns a shocked Odin that she may go for his vault. Odin grabs Mjölnir, calls for Sleipnir and races upstairs. Epic battle between Odin, Frigga and Karnilla. Odin and Frigga eventually win.

Coming back down they see they have not been able to save Thor.

Odin ritualistically pours the sand from the bed of the Lake of Lilitha on to Thor's wound. He gives a regretful and moving speech while Frigga, Sif and Balder mourn. The Warriors Three cling to eachother for comfort. Heimdall and the Einherjar remove their helmets. Heads bowed.

Then as the tears of Frigga, Sif and Balder mingle with the sand it turns to water and heals the wound. Thor lives! They bottle the rest of the magical liquid.

Just as everyone is celebrating, a dishevelled Karnilla appears holding Loki at knifepoint. If she can't have the kingdom, she will have a sacrifice for the knowledge of the runes. One of your sons must forfeit their lives.

They all show concern for Loki. Even Odin. Karnilla scoffs that their lives would be much easier without him. All the trouble he caused. She blames Loki for all the things he blamed her for. Even the stone golem. That he followed them and sabotaged them because his heart was full of jealousy and hate.

Sif says she knew it. Thor cries out , "You lie, witch!". Balder reasons that this may all be true. But despite all that, knowing the consequences of being found out, Loki chose to do the right thing and saved all of Asgard.

Dialogue from the comic:

K:How can you defend him? His hands are as dirty as mine.

My hands...that will spill blood once more today.

B: If you must take a life this day...take mine.

I forfeit it in exchange for Loki's.

And if the denizens of Asgard hate Loki, as you say, won't my death better satisfy your need for revenge?

K (releasing Loki and pointing knife at Balder): You fool! What kind of man would sacrifice his life for that of his enemy?

B: A man who knows no enemy.

A man who believes in the value of all life.

A man who believes there is good in every soul.

Even in yours, Karnilla.

K (releasing him too): This is not over, Balder.

She apparates away. Odin confirms she is gone.

He vows to have the sword forged.

Sif and the Warriors Three are sent with the four elements to Nidavellir. In a month he there will be a ceremony to bestow the sword upon the winner. That he has much to deliberate upon. Now he would speak to his other son. But Loki is gone.

One month later, at the ceremony, Svadren is given to Balder for his mercy and compassion. Celebrations!

Some time after that Balder and Nanna, Thor, Sif and the Warriors Three return to Lilitha with the last few drops remaining in the vial and empty them onto the lake bed. Slowly, the water returns. The friends swim, splash and horse about. Happy ending!

Post credits - Loki just sitting there in the family home hatred bubbling away under the surface. One of his boys runs through shouting for his father. Sigyn's mum comes and ushers him away as Loki glowers.

➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖

It’s been months, 8 months since I last saw him. The Man of Mischief, the God of lies. Loki. He’d been thrown into Asgard’s prison after he tried to take over Midgard claiming it was his birthright. I was shocked to have heard he was alive. I remember mourning his death, isolating myself from everyone because I had no reason to live. But there he was all along, hiding like a coward. I sat in my room, preparing for the feast. I wore a simple fluffy brownish-gold dress with shiny material at the chest area. The dress was accompanied with a cape with the same design. It made me feel pretty. I hadn’t felt like that in a very long time. We had just returned from waging peace between the Nine Realms and Odin wanted to celebrate his son —Thor and warriors success. I hadn’t left my home since Loki’s “death” but ever since I heard of him being alive, I’ve just been so angry. How could he lie to me? What had I ever done to receive that? I walked into the hall where the feast was being held wind scanned the area. It was filled with Royals from different Realms, commoners, soldiers and The Royal Family. I grabbed a cup of ale and walked over the Thor. He was sitting at the Grand Table, drinking with the rest of our friends.

Crazy In Love With You

“Ahhhh there she is, the lady of the night!” Thor shouted as I sat down next to Sif. I giggled and said, “I only saved you twice.”

“Well without you our prince would be in Valhalla.” Sif said nudging me. I smile, thanking her. “Yes, without you we would not be FEASTING!” Volstagg said raising his goblet. The people around us cheered. I blushed and grabbed fruit from the bowl. I looked at the open seat next to me. Loki’s seat. I frowned.

“Hey, you ok?” Sif asked. “Umm... yes?” I said not really paying attention. “You miss him, don’t you?”

“Yes...” Sif squeezed my shoulder and filled my goblet with more ale. “M’lady, would you do me the honour of accompanying me to the next dance?” Frandral asked, holding his hand out for me to dance.

“I’d love to.” I said grabbing his hand and joining him. I took off my cape and handed it to a thrall as Frandral lead me to the dance floor. He put his hand on my waist and led the waltz. “How do you feel my friend?”

“Better... I think.” I replied staring at nothing. “You miss him. I see it in your eyes.” Frandral stated.

“You’re very good at reading people. Now what lass have you dragged to this feast?” I asked trying to change the subject. “Well with the wars I haven’t had time to find a beauty.“ he replied laughing. “But I’ll find one.”

“Might I steal The Saviour?” I turned around to see Thor holding his hand out for me. “Oh course your majesty.” Frandral said bowing dramatically. I giggled and took Thor’s hand, waving goodbye to Frandral.

Thor and I glided across the floor, my dress sweeping the floor. We talked about everything and nothing. About Asgard, our futures, the Nine Realms, etc. Once the third song ended Thor grabbed us some mead and walked with me to the balcony. I looked up to see the moon, it was full. “Did you know Loki asked me to be his when the moon was full. He said the full moon was rare, because it only came once a month. Just like how love is rare.” I said sighing.

“He really has gone soft hasn’t he.” Thor said handing me my mead. I giggled and nodded. But what if that was a lie. Like everything else. “Thor... did Loki really... you know... love me, like I loved him?” I asked

“I would say so, yes.” He said leaning on the balcony. “He has... in a way changed even after what he did to Midgard. I saw something in his eyes that reminded me of you. He thinks of you all the time. Maybe he was just afraid of what you would think now that we know he’s a Frost Giant.”

“It wouldn’t change a thing. I love Loki for Loki. Frost Giant or not.” I exclaimed. “Yes but he doesn’t see it that way. He’s afraid of losing you. You are his precious jewel.” Thor said looking at the moon. “But I mean, if you want to see him...”

“I can’t. The guards are always there, believe me I’ve tried.” I said pouting. “Ah But there are other ways to get into the dungeons.” Thor said smirking. “There are?” I said bewildered

“Loki showed me when we were children.” Thor said smiling. I smiled. “But that is... if you want to see him.” Thor said smiling. “Yes I do!” I said quickly. I mean I was still furious with him but I love him. I can’t stay away no matter how hard I try.

“Very well there is a secret passage near the library. The brick closest to the third flame, push it. From there you go straight, take the first left which will lead you to a staircase that will take you to a dead end. From there push the brick that is closest to rose carvings. It’ll take you straight into the prisoners cells, past the guards. Loki with be there.”

“Thank you Thor.” I said hugging him. “You’re most welcome. Loki needs to see you. He needs to know you’re not mad at him. Well not completely mad at him.” Thor said laughing. I smiled and quickly dashed back into the Hall. I quickly grabbed my cape and quietly exited the Grand Hall. I followed Thor’s instructions to the library and walked towards the third flame. I checked both sides to make sure t was clear before pushing the brick. It worked. Thank you Thor.

“I wondered when you finally use it.” I quickly turned around to see Frigga. “Your Majesty.” I said bowing. “Raise my child.” She said helping me up. “I have a feeling I know where you’re going. And I’m happy you’re finally doing it. Loki misses you.” I smiled. She grabbed my shoulders and hugged me. “Bring my son back to me.” She said before letting me go. I nodded and ran into the passage using Thor’s knowledge. I pushed the brick that took me straight into the dungeons. I quickly looked to my left to see... “Loki...” I said breathlessly.

“Princess?” He said putting his hands on the gold enforcement. He quickly moved away as the shield burned his hands, only they didn’t turn red but blue. He quickly turned around. “Loki wait!” I said stopping right in front of the shield that’s separating me from my love. “Don’t. It’ll hurt you.” He said walking to the shield. “I’ve missed you.”

“As have I, my love.” I said tearing up. “I’m going to find a way to get in there.”

“There is no way in.” He said sadly. “There’s always a way.” I said slowly put my hand on the shield. It burned but not a lot. I was a really stupid thing to do seeing as it burned Loki. But I continued and watched my hand go through to the other side. Loki smiled and took my hand pulling me into him. He grabbed me, holding me close. “Can’t... Breath love.” I said trying to pull away. He laughed and let go only to quickly grab my face and kiss me. I smiled and pulled him close. He grabbed my waist and backed me into the wall.

“Loki... wait...” I said in between kisses. He groaned and let go keeping his hand on my hips. He looked at me, his eyes trailing over every inch. “Don’t you look ravishing.” He said smirking. I giggled and said, “Only for you.” He hummed and kissed me again, unclipping my cape and letting it fall into the floor. “Wait, what about the guards?” I asked pulling away. “All they see is me. Alone. Reading.” He said kissing my neck. I sighed and dragged my fingers through his raven hair. “Mmm... ok.” I said pulling his face to my lips. He smirked and grabbed my hips pushing my body into his. I moaned enjoying the feeling of him. Gods I missed him so much. I pulled away for air as he tried finding the zip for the dress. He groaned saying, “If it does not come off now, I’ll rip it.” I giggled and backed him into the bed.

“Have patience my love.” I said straddling him. We continued to kiss, getting lost in each others embrace and the sheets.

➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖

I groaned feeling the cold air on my toe. I quickly bent my leg trying to cover my frozen toe. I felt something warm shift underneath me and snuggled closer to it, trying to prevent it from moving. I felt a kiss on my forehead and slowly opened my eyes. “Good morning my princess.” Loki said smiling, his fingers tracing patterns on my back. I shivered and mumbled and good morning, kissing his chest.

“Last night was... perfect.” I said sighing dreamily. Loki smiled and kissed me. It was soft and warm, filled with love. Loki pulled away and hugged me. He held me as if his life depended on it. “How did I get through the shield?” I asked after our silent embrace. “Mother. While you were asleep I felt this magical surge in you. Mother must have put an enchantment to allow you in.” He stated. “Ahhh, that makes sense.”

“Let’s hope it allows you to come and visit me again.” Loki said kissing my hair. I got up hand hovered over him. He looked beautiful. Relaxed. I smiled and kisses his closed eyelids, his cheeks, nose and mouth. “ I’ll have to leave soon.” I said pouting against his lips. He kissed my lips and sighed saying, “Do you have to?”

“Yes, or people will start to wonder where I am.” I said getting up a grabbing my dress. “Can’t we go for round four first?” Loki smirked watching me dress. I giggled saying, “No or I’ll never leave.”

“Well that is the plan.” He replied, putting on his pants and walking towards me. “You will come back, won’t you?”

“Of course I will.” I said kissing him. He smiled and grabbed my ass, pulling me to him. “we are not doing that again.” He smiled and kissed my cheek. “It was worth a try.” He let go of me and watched as I walked through the shield. I turned back and smiled, blowing him a kiss. He smiled and waved goodbye.

➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖

Days past and Loki and I spent every night together. We talked, laughed, made love and overall just enjoyed because being in each other’s embrace. A few days ago, Frigga told me how when she went to visit Loki and he was happier, well I mean as happy as you can be when you’re stuck in prison, but he was happy maybe even glowing. She said she saw a light in his eyes, one she hadn’t seen in a very long time. “Penny for your thoughts love?” Loki asked tracing my side. “Mmmm...Just thinking about us, about you.” I replied. “Well, I’m flattered.” He said kissing my shoulder. I turned around to face Loki and leaned over him asking, “Why did you do it?”

“What?” He asked “Why did you let go? Why did you pretend to die? Why did you leave me?” I questioned. “I don’t want to talk about it.” He mumbled turning his back to me. “Then when will we talk about it? After the countless sex you use to get your mind off of how you abandoned me? After you get out of here? When Loki, when?” I exclaimed frustrated. He quickly got up and said, “Why does it matter. I’m here aren’t I.”

“Yes but why cower away from me? As if I would have been disgusted of you?” I said getting angrier. “You should be.” He whispered. “BUT WHY!” I exclaimed grabbing his arm. “BECAUSE I AM A MONSTER. THE MONSTERS THAT HID UNDER CHILDREN’S BEDS AT NIGHT. AND NO ONE WANTS TO HE WITH A MONSTER.” He shouted. “So that’s why, you were afraid. Like a coward you could not face your demons. You chose to run from them not caring who you’d leave behind. WHO YOU’D HURT!” I screamed pushing him. “I MOURNED YOUR DEATH, I HADE SLEEPLESS NIGHTS, I WAS NOTHING AND YOU TELL ME IT WAS ALL BECAUSE YOU WERE AFRAID!” I kept pushing him letting everything out. My face was drenched with tears. “I AM HERE. ISN’T THAT WHAT MATTERS!” He shouted back grabbing my hands. “NO, BECAUSE YOU LEFT ME ALONE. YOU DIDN’T TRUST ME... how can I trust you after that.” I whimpered

“Well you should’ve thought of that before you had sex with me.” He whispered lowly in my ear. I gasped and smacked him across his cheek. He stared at me in shock as I shouted with tears down my face. “I HATE YOU!” I fell to the floor — the sheets following — and sobbed. I cried for all the heartbreak. All the nights alone, hollow. Loki looked at me sadly, holding his cheek. He got down on his knees and tried grabbing my hands but as I struggled to get away from him. He pulled me into his lap and held me close as I sobbed. He stroked my hair and whispered apologies and sweet nothings into my ear. After I had calmed down I felt a wetness against my hair and looked up to see Loki crying. He kept whispering apologies and “I love you’s” I grabbed his face, whipped his tears and kissed him. This kiss was full over passion and love and apologises. Loki picked me up and gently placed me on the bed never breaking the kiss. He hands traveled all over, tracing every curve, sending chills all over my body. “Wait.” I said stopping.

“Do you want us to stop?” He asked moving the hair out my face. I smiled and replied, “No, I just wanted to see what you really look like. If that’s ok with you.” He took a deep breath, slowly moved away and closed his eyes. I watched and his skin turned blue, patterns appeared all over and his eyes... they were red. “Beautiful.” I mumbled reaching to touch his face.

“Don’t.” He stated backing up off the bed. “Frost Giants give people frostbite when they come in contact with their skin.” I smiled and crawled up to him. I grabbed his shoulders and pulled him towards me, kissing his icy lips. “You’re special.”He smiled and kissed me again, dropping me back onto the bed. “Although everything does feel a lot colder.” I said giggling. He smiled and changed back into the Asgardian saying, “I truly love you, my princess.”

“And I love you more, my prince.”

And our night continued. It was filled with love till the early hours of dawn. We got lost in each other, oblivious of the dangers that were to fall upon our home, Asgard. But I guess that’s what happens when you’re crazy in love.

Damn... Now that's one badass and beautiful funeral. Proof that even in death, Asgardians do it better.

Just like the post states, Disney has NO RIGHT to trademark these names that DO NOT belong to them. MORE SO as they only have interest in making MONEY from doing so. I am not a religious person, but I have enough respect and understanding to know when a culture is being DISGRACED for, what? Money?

So FUCK DISNEY.

YES, they have been a part of most peoples childhoods. YES, they are a part of history itself, BUT what they are doing now is unacceptable and inconsiderate of those before us and those who still believe in this religion that’s been around WAY BEFORE Disney.

Disney has trademarked the names of a bunch of Norse gods.

This is not okay.

These gods do not belong to Disney. They do not belong to Marvel. They belong to themselves and themselves alone, along with all those who worship them as the deities they are.

Thor, Loki, Odin, etc., these gods were not thought up by anyone at Disney or Marvel.

Stan Lee knew how sacred these gods are to those who follow many different Pagan traditions, how sacred they are to Scandinavian cultures to whom they are so important.

My best friend follows the Norse gods. She will be so bloody offended when she finds out about this. These are her gods, this is her religion. These are the deities she worships, the gods she prays to, the traditions she follows. She enjoys the Marvel portrayals of these characters, but they are separate from the gods she believes in.

Disney is stepping on her religion in an effort to gain more and more money.

Stan Lee did not trademark these names. He understood their importance and their sacred meaning. He was respectful enough not to do this.

These names are not the intellectual property of anyone. Neither the original names in runes nor the anglicised names that are used in Marvel's works.

They were around well before us (a whole ass millennium before us), and they will be around well after the greedy bastards who have decided to trademark religious symbols are dust.

It should be common sense and common courtesy not to trademark the names of religious figures, which all of these gods and goddesses are, even if you do not believe in them.

mod is not christian but you would never see me trademark jesus ffs it crosses a Line

If you agree, please sign and share the petition. If you can, please chip in to get this petition everywhere it can possibly go.

It is f**king disgusting that Disney is doing this.

It needs to stop.

Stop Disney Trademarking The Names of Norse Gods

Oh, and one more thing.

FUCK DISNEY.

i want to throw up ive included a bunch of tags trying to get the norse pagans attention bc im sure they'll want in on this if u have an in with the norse paganism community on tumblr pls do tag everyone u can

im wondering now if they've done this to the greek gods too ughh that would show even more of a disregard for other people's religious views and past people's religious views ughhhh ok imma go look at the toilet bowl for a bit 😅pls sign it'd mean the world to me

So...let’s talk about Hela, shall we?

So...lets Talk About Hela, Shall We?

We all know that she’s basically a version of Baldur. Odin’s first born, perfect golden son. The blessed child of Odin and Frigg, but I’m thinking Frigga in the MCU never would’ve allowed Hela to grow up the way she did...

So...lets Talk About Hela, Shall We?

My theory is that Hela is the daughter of Odin and Freya, who was likely Odin’s first wife in the MCU who died at some point before Hela was locked away and he met Frigga, etc. I think that Freya loved her “perfect daughter” so much that he cursed her the same way she did Baldur in Norse Mythology. Making him immune to all things with only a single loophole left out, being mistletoe.

So...lets Talk About Hela, Shall We?

Odin likely would’ve made up the loophole just in case, because he was obviously paranoid about everything down to his own children’s intentions. Though, because of his love for her, he chose mistletoe because of its poisonous nature. If he suspected any sign of madness, or she committed an atrocity, he could’ve just poisoned her food or drink and let her die peacefully in her sleep. A merciful death to spare himself the act of having to kill her with his own hands, but when she inevitably grew bloodthirsty, he still couldn’t kill his own child (just as he couldn’t kill Loki) and locked her away in a prison all her own (much like how Loki was locked away in Mythology with Sigyn protecting him from the venom dripping serpent.)

My thoughts on what might’ve happened to her if she were poisoned could go one of two ways. She either would’ve died as any human would, or the spell keeping her invulnerable would’ve been broken and she quite possibly would’ve reverted to the “perfect golden child” that Freya was trying to protect. Meaning, blonde like Odin with creamy skin rather than pale and quite possibly less insane, because she would finally be able to feel again. Pain, anguish, all of it. She’d be normal just like every other Asgardian for the first time since she was a small child and it would be quite the humbling shock to go from this:

So...lets Talk About Hela, Shall We?

To this:

So...lets Talk About Hela, Shall We?

Because of one teeny, tiny little plant probably mentioned in Human legend in the MCU by Odin as a warning, should she ever return/escape upon his death or for some other reason.

Just thought this might be an interesting idea for any of you out there trying to figure out how to write a Hela x Reader fic without getting stuck.

So...lets Talk About Hela, Shall We?

Meta: Loki’s Deleted “Coronation” Scene

Time to deconstruct this baby.

First of all, let’s start with CONTEXT. Context part one: Loki has just been banished to his jail cell for eternity. Odin has just condemned him to a lifetime sentence without visitation rights by friends or family.  He has disowned him and claimed not only that his “birthright was to die”–which Odin during Loki’s childhood repeatedly lied about by omission, and by outright statements such as “both of you were born to rule”–but also that he should be grateful to Odin for taking pity on Loki, a helpless bastard infant (allegedly) outcast by his royal Jotun family, and letting him live.   Context part two: Loki protects himself by using lies and illusions.  He dons masks and personae, and utilizes both physical shape-shifting and mirages of extreme elaborateness, as his arsenal.  Not only as his blade, but as his SHIELD.  So when Loki uses illusions, we know he feels either physically, mentally, or emotionally threatened.

What we see before us is Loki imagining up, and probably casting ornate illusions (to entertain himself in boredom and sorrow, because trust me, mercurial emotions and extreme intellect are a miserable combo in a prison cell) of, the coronation that never was. What do we remember that Loki’s said about inheriting the throne of Asgard? “I never wanted the throne [to Thor]: I only ever wanted to be your equal” (Thor 2011).  However as equality with Thor, in Odin’s eyes, is contingent upon worthiness to inherit the throne, the throne becomes conflated with that equality, and Loki seeks it for the sole, very basic and dare I say very human desire to be accepted unconditionally by his family and culture.   What do we also know? That Frigga once granted Loki the throne during the Odinsleep and Thor’s banishment, LEGITIMATELY, only to be taken away when Thor somewhat miraculously grew a conscience and a better perspective of how to treat his subjects in the Nine with respect.

What does this deleted scene, therefore, tell us? It tells us that Loki is  –feeling threatened –protecting and entertaining himself –imagining what he longs for and believes he deserves.

So let’s interpret this “daydream,” and in doing so interpret where Loki’s elusive misconceptions and so-called “delusions” about his family dynamics, and the injustices done him, lie.   Because let’s not forget: EVERY SECOND OF THIS DELETED SCENE IS SPECIFICALLY FROM LOKI’S POV. That makes it a splendid look inside his typically obfuscated psyche.

**********************

First let’s talk DIMENSIONS:

image

This view of the Throne Room is somewhat larger and certainly more densely packed than the view that we see during Thor’s coronation (which, food for thought, Loki surely remembers DISRUPTING by INTRODUCING FROST GIANTS INTO THE VAULT WHICH LED ULTIMATELY TO THOR RUSHING HEADLONG INTO JOTUNHEIM AND LOKI LEARNING HIS TRUE HERITAGE, WHICH WAS THE BEGINNING OF LOKI’S UNDOING–lots and lots of associations with the SHATTERING OF TRUST, SELF-THWARTING, AND THE UNVEILING OF TRAGIC TRUTHS for Loki EMBEDDED IN THE **VERY PHYSICAL AND PHENOMENOLOGICAL SPACE OF THE THRONE ROOM***. Never forget that!).

image

Also, note: cinematography is NEVER AN ACCIDENT: what we see, and the sequence of visuals we are presented in tandem with acting and a score, are conscious artistic decisions that feed the narrative for us on an unconscious level. So some filmographer decided that Loki’s perception of a coronation should be DISTANT, REVERENT, IMMENSE, DENSELY PACKED WITH TINY PEOPLE.  Thor’s coronation, on the other hand, is much more focused on a few people closest to the elder and more gregarious sibling.  His triumph is louder and more in your face. Loki’s has almost the religious fervor of a saint’s canonization, SUGGESTING A PATH LONG TRODDEN AND A VICTORY HARD EARNED (rather than a privilege taken for granted).

Next, let’s talk about WHO IS PRESENT:

image
image

People whom Loki claims to “loathe,” who were “only Thor’s friends.” Uh huh.  While it was clear that Thor’s friends The Warrior Three and Lady Sif always tolerated Loki out of love of Thor more than loved or accepted the younger prince, in involving them in his daydream, Loki clearly conveys that he STILL VALUES their opinion of him on some level.  Who betrayed Loki first in Thor 2011?  Sif and the Warriors 3.  Who was Loki’s FIRST EVIDENCE that he’ll never be offered the devoted fealty that Thor is offered? Sif and the Warriors 3. This is both a sentimental detail, then, and ALSO proof that Loki will always CONCEPTUALIZE A FRIEND AND POTENTIAL SUBJECT’S BETRAYAL, WILL SCHEMATIZE THAT TREASONOUS ACT, AS THOR’S CHILDHOOD FRIENDS.   Interest side note: most people agree that Fandral was always the least abrasive toward Loki out of all of Thor’s best friends, so appropriate, isn’t it, to see him singled out in his own cameo?

Now, how about Loki himself. And this frankly I consider the most heartbreaking component:

image

Red cloak COVERING UP, rather than loudly boasting (as in Avengers Assemble), his signature green and gold garb?

Loki equates royalty with THOR (who, ironically, later says to Loki-as-Odin, “I’d rather be a good man than a great king (Thor: The Dark World)).”  What does Loki say when Frigga interrupts, and asks what he’s doing?   “I’m giving the people WHAT THEY WANT.”

“The people,” AKA Asgard, Loki is saying–and FULLY CONCEDING/SURRENDERING TO–they want THOR.  Not just THOR THE PERSON, but also ***THE CULTURAL ARCHETYPE THAT THOR EMBODIES.***

The ERASURE of Loki’s own identity, and the ASSUMPTION of Thor’s–

image

–COMPLETE WITH MJOLNIR–are Loki’s ONE WAY OF RECONCILING HIS HOPE OF EQUALITY WITH HIS “BETTER” BROTHER TO REALITY.

“I remember a shadow. Living in the shade of your greatness.” (Avengers Assemble).

***From Loki’s POV, being accepted and loved and SAFE are contingent upon either standing in Thor’s shadow, OR BECOMING THOR.***

There is no way to be LOKI, and succeed, Loki believes, at this point in the game, exiled to a prison cell for th rest of his natural life, alone, and condemned for behaviors that Odin himself–and Thor, before Thor reformed!!!!–exhibited.   To be Odin and Thor is both INEVITABLE and, because Loki is LOKI, and NOT Odin or Thor, DOOM.  It’s a paradox in which Loki can’t win.

That Loki longs to erase himself and become Thor, but also full well knows he cannot, is evinced in what he says when Frigga tells him that creating too many illusions means getting lost in them.

What does he say? And in such a way that you MUST watch the video to get the full gut-punch tragic force of it:

image

“Precisely.” With all the sorrow and resignation in the cosmos. “Precisely.”  I want to get lost in the impossible fantasy of being as unilaterally loved as my big brother.  I want to possess all the traits that make a person an Odinson, and therefore, worthy.  But green is not red, it’s red’s complement.

Cloaking myself in red will not make me Thor. I’m here in Asgard’s dungeons to prove it.   ******************

A note, too, on Loki’s DEMEANOR ONCE CAUGHT:

image

First, we feign absolute mad glee. We pretend we don’t give a flying fuck anymore about how others perceive us (taken vastly to the task by the daydream itself).  We rebuff the concerned query of the only person who MIGHT be capable of understanding us (Frigga) with another weapon: humor.

Then, as it always does with Frigga, who is both compassionate and perceptive, it falls flat.

image

And that is when we get defensive. That is when all hope is lost.

There’s something that’s been bugging me about the first Thor film for a while, which is the fact Thor’s great “revelation” is this nebulous thing that is implied to have occurred but isn’t really actually presented to the audience? Like, yes, it would be a great shock to be dropkicked off your home planet and lose your fancy magic powers, but I’m not sure where and how that leads to “I was wrong to re-ignite war against our hereditary enemies, obviously they are people too, and I must stop Loki because Genocide Is WrongTM”.

Especially since the fate of the Jotnar is never picked up again? It’s just kind of assumed that- well, that no one on Asgard gives a shit if they did all die from delayed effects of the planet getting a hole punched into it. Despite Thor apparently  believing that preventing such warranted smashing the Bifrost?

Granted, Asgard seems to rely on the Bifrost to the exclusion of possessing spaceworthy craft, so they couldn’t render aid if they wanted to?

But it’s weird that the last act of Thor hinges on Thor having had some great realization and it just-isn’t there?

Why did you change your mind, Thor?

Was Darcy watching Schindler’s List for one of her classes or something? Considering what is revealed about the war with the Svartalfar, does Asgard even have a concept of genocide, or is it simply considered a “dishonorable” tactic that is nevertheless lauded in practice because “yay, we won’t have to worry about that enemy anymore”.

What made you change your mind, Thor?

Why did you break the bridge when you had gleefully murdered someone for an insult 3 days before?

Why did you change your mind?

What made you change your mind?

…and why didn’t it seem to stick?

One of the lines in “Thor: The Dark World” that gets overlooked, I think (possibly because Marvel cut it from the final edit) was when Thor is talking to Frigga about Loki, and she says to him that he and Odin always shone so brightly, it was hard for Loki to find any sun for himself, or something to that effect.

Anyway, this is such a massively important line, because it basically tells us EVERYTHING about Loki’s childhood, and how he felt.  And here again is yet another example of how absolutely WRONG Taika Waitit’s view of these characters was, given what I heard about him wanting to include a flashback in Ragnarok showing Thor as a sensitive and bullied child, and Loki as dark and mean.  That would have been in DIRECT conflict with everything we know about these characters, just like everything else in Ragnarok is.

From what Frigga says to Thor, it’s plain as day that Loki as a child was always struggling just to catch up to Thor, to try and be equal to him, not just in Odin’s and Frigga’s eyes, but in the eyes of probably the entire kingdom.  It tells us that Thor, as a boy, was as popular and well liked, as charming and charismatic and as easy to make friends as he is as an adult, and that Loki was very much the introvert, quiet, awkward and isolated.  And from Loki’s desperation to win Odin’s approval in the first Thor film, I think it becomes apparent that that desperation grew directly from his feeling inadequate and lesser to the standard of both his father and his big brother growing up.  And it’s just so unbelievably sad, to envision that.  To envision Loki constantly struggling, trying to match Thor, trying to make himself seem as good as Thor for Odin, trying to make himself seem like a “true and worthy son”, as he says in the first film.  How anyone could miss this about his character is beyond me, unless they’re being willfully obtuse.

And we see from this one line, that Loki’s entire motivation is based on a feeling of lack on his own part.  He feels like he’s less.  He feels like he isn’t as good as Thor, and that Odin must not love him because he’s not as good as Thor, and until he discovers he’s a Jotun, he doesn’t know why, and he can’t figure it out, and he keeps trying and trying to do the right thing to somehow make him, in his father’s eyes, Thor’s equal.  Think of the kind of psychological effect that would have on a person, especially a young man growing up in the kind of culture Loki did.  Think of the burden of constantly feeling like there’s something WRONG with you, because you’re constantly measuring yourself against the perfection of an older sibling who everyone loves, while everyone treats you like you’re strange, and even are at times outwardly hostile and cruel to you.  Think of the weight of trying to figure out how to change yourself so that others will treat you like they treat your perfect older sibling, but not being able to, because you don’t really know what it is about you that makes everyone dislike or hate you in the first place.  And then think of what it must have been like, to discover you’re from a race of beings who the people you’ve grown up around consider to be monsters, who are those people’s mortal enemies, and coming to the swift and awful realization that that must have been it all along.  That THAT’S what was wrong with you.  That that’s why you’ve always been an outcast.

I just think that one moment from The Dark World was so important for understanding Loki’s character.

And yet, once again, Marvel proves it’s own stupidity by cutting it out.  Just like they cut out so many scenes from the first Thor film which showed Loki in a more sympathetic light.  Gee, it’s almost like they didn’t want people feeling for him.  Too bad they ended up doing so anyway.
