Everything was fine yesterday but then this gaggle of incompetent fools show up with their stupid reptiles and suddenly you’re in a war??? AND the fucking malnourished stick insect of a leader they have has the AUDACITY to steal an ancient relic off of one of your predecessors ships??? AND THEN THEY BLOW UP YOUR ONLY MODE OF LONG FORM TRANSPORTATION??? AND THEN THEY RELEASE A BUNCH OF YOUR STOCK AND SINK THOUSANDS AND THOUSANDS OF YOUR PROFITS BY SAVING THE DRAGONS YOU CAPTURED??? WHAT??? MOTHER FUCKER HAD EVERY SINGLE RIGHT TO START A WAR. HICCUP AND HIS STUPID ASS FRIENDS SHOWING UP AND JUST TANKING YOUR WHOLE ASS LIFE??? Most of the protagonist characters have this awe-inspiringly scary glare when they are angry or determined. It makes people around them either hesitate or admire them, depending on their respective relationship with the character.
But Hiccup, Oh My God!
His glare isn't scary! Like, all my fav characters have that glare which could halt enemies and friends alike but Hiccup's glare is just... a petulant half pout
It's hilarious and adorable. He can't glare! Cjjfjdjckvk no wonder nobody takes his glares seriously. Villains look at this boy glaring at them and never get afraid, they always chuckle or hold back a chuckle. They all probably internally go, oh that is a child

And then, shadows shift behind him and everyone loses track of their thoughts on Hiccup's adorably childish looking glares and their attention snap to the dark veil looking over his head like a dark winged cloak, a deep rumble of a growl vibrating the air and sending every heartbeat shooting skyhigh and every breath hitching in terror as slitted depths of green stare into their souls, daring anyone to harm the human under their protection.
Hiccup doesn't have a scary glare. But Toothless does. And he more than makes up for the lack of it

Oh he is so fucking hopeless in close combat. Give him his weird shield bow and arrow thing and yeah he’ll fuck you up but the moment you expect him to duel he’s done.
