School Shooting - Tumblr Posts

21 lives were lost, including 19 children.
There are no words.
Rest In Peace to these beautiful babies. đ

âI love you mom. I am happy and well, sorry for not being a good son and not being happy if I ever was. I love you in heaven. -Brianâ
Everywhere Else:
âHave you heard about the mass shooting?â
âOMG itâs tragic isnât it? I hope theyâre looking into why it happened so that doesnât happen again.â
In the US:
âHave you heard about the mass shooting?â
âMaybe, which one?â

Seems like all Trump supporters care about is gun rights an not protecting the kiddies.
You know what is insulting
Im on snapchat watching all the stories on gun violence. I tap right after I read most powerful signs at the protests. When I click I get an add that says âTo my generationâ I click to skip it, but then I think no, how are they going to change advertising to generation ZÂ
âTo my generation, try amazon teen,â they then go into how you can use your parents prime fine whatever. Its what they say next, they donât tell me what I can get, they donât tell how it is better for me to use like they do in every other commercial. They tell us âI use it and itâs litâ. ITâS LIT. What no one uses that any more anyways. There is nothing more insulting to be able to organize protest and yet they still advertise with âlitâ. Advertisers if you need to advertise to teens now fine I get it, but heres some advise look at us again and look what we are doing. Then when you see it change how you do it.
Back to School (Shootings)
I got really aggravated yesterday when I noted the usual "kids are back in school - watch out for them crossing streets" and all the usual heads up awareness adverts.
I'm not upset because kids are back to school.
I'm upset because this means we have to start the countdown for the next mass school shooting incident because America loves guns more than children.
We were watching Les Mis (the latest movie, the one with Hugh Jackman) and wondering how long until people hit the breaking point anew? Barricades in the streets. Bring it all down. And also how certain elements of humanity never learn and just keep looping. Mid 1800 France, Early 2000 America, at some point the people will have enough and rise again.
Until then? We wait for the next heartbreaking massacre and another useless tweet of "thoughts and prayers".
of course iâm not happy about being quarantined and iâve been waking up at 2:00pm everyday and neglecting my work and not to mention iâm posting this at 1:30am in the morning but itâs comforting to know i wonât have to worry about school shootings for a while
After I heard about the Parkland High School shooting in Florida on Wednesday, I have been sad and and scared that this might happen again in my hometown. My fear of this is even worse because I have a younger brother who I love so much and I really don't want him to go through that trauma.

Back in the beginning of 2019 someone called in a shooting threat at one of the high schools causing them and the rest of the schools to go into lockdown/hold and secure for the rest of the day. We thought it was going to be a one time thing but the calls just kept on coming. Eventually us kids started making jokes and started calling the days the school got shut down âHammarskjold Daysâ (the name of the high school). Nobody knew who it was. The reward for helping police catch the culprit(s) was over $15,000. They were eventually caught and it turned out to be two students of that high school. The calls lasted from February to April and they were shut down 12 times out of 14 calls. Probably not the weirdest thing to happen here but itâs the best thing that came to my head.
weirdest thing that ever happened in your hometown?Â
Today I was talking to my mom about school and the conversation moved to response drills, you know, fire and earthquake drills. And of course I added in shooter drills. She made a comment on how when she was in school they didnât do those. They didnât do drills on what to do if a shooter came to campus. And when I asked her why not she said âThat stuff just didnât really happen, not often enough to be a concern at least. We never really had to worry about it.â..............................Wow. Just Wow.......................What does that say about what America has come to for me to be baffled by the mere mention of not having to worry about a shooter coming to school. I remember us practicing shooter drills more commonly than I do earthquake drills. I remember on the first day of school that they only gave earthquakes a brief mention. They talked about fires, then a slight, very slight, mention of earthquakes, and then we moved straight on to shooters. I remember how last year, we had a lock-in at my high school and how the middle school closest to us had a lockdown because of a shooter. I remember how we all took out our phones to check what was happening and to text our friends and family. The teacher told us to put our phones away and while we did to an extent we were still checking them. The teacher was trying to keep us calm but the problem with that was that he couldnât calm us, because we werenât freaking out. Weďżź acknowledged the threat, and we worried about it, and for the middle schoolers who were in lockdown. But we were just kind of numb. What has this country come to for teenagers to be numb to the possibility of being shot. There was a boy who wouldnât put his phone away and the teacher demanded that he did. He asked if he could keep it out to keep up with the situation. Turned out his little brother was one of the students in the locked down middle school. He was worried for his little brother, but he looked so resigned. The teacher let him keep his phone out and he was texting his brother and his family. He gave us updates throughout class. I remember when everything was all said and done, when the situation was over and the crisis adverted, we were glad that nobody was hurt or killed. Then we moved on like it was normalďżź. And thatâs the thing isnât it. It is normal. And that is disgusting. It is atrocious that students, kids and teens, have that reality. I donât want to live like that. I donât want to be numb and resigned to the fact that I have a plausible chance at getting shot at school. I donât even live in a city with a lot of threats of shooters so if this our response, what about those who do have more threats of shooters. I justâ this is wrong. Thatâs it. I just need to get this out. Please everyone who sees this, please just think about this. Even just for a second, just truly listen.
Me: The school system is terrible, and not an effective way of teaching students, and to back up my statement here are personal accounts from me and other people I know/have seen on social media, as well as statistics proving my point.
My mom: you know why your generation hates school so much? It's because yall spend too much of your time on phones l, and not learning how to cope with things.
-An average highschool student today has the same stress levels as patients in a mental hospital in the 1950s.
-I have a friend who's biggest fear is a school shooting, one time we had to stay in lockdown for the entire day because someone threatened to shoot up our school. She couldn't sleep or complete any schoolwork for the next few days.
-I almost skipped dinner one night so I could work on a project
These are just a few things, but the list could go on forever. These issues are not caused by our "obsession" with technology. Maybe our lack of coping abilities comes from the fact that anytime we talk about a legitimate issue to an adult, it's always made out to be our fault, to the point where we learn not to trust anyone but ourselves, lest they judge us for being human. Maybe the fact that we have such high anxiety and depression stems from the fact that nothing we did was ever good enough, we were always lazy, or entitled, technology obsessed. I am sick and tired of being treated as a second class citizen because older generations dont want to admit that they are making mistakes, I mean it effects us so why shouldn't it be our fault too. Why dont we just disregard the facts that the people in charge of educational laws havent been in a classroom in probably 30 years. I am sick and tired of being told that I am never enough, that it's my fault the world is messed, and that the world will be worse in our hands. And hey maybe we won't make the world a better place, but it won't be because we didnt want to, it will be because you didnt let us believe that we ever could.
