I don't think enough people realise this , that Patroclus had Accepted that Achilles would die before him and was mentally preparing himself that at some point he would have to live without Achilles even for a day . But Achilles never prepared himself for it because he ALWAYS knew he would die first not Patroclus , because without Patroclus the world wouldn't simply revolve . Without Patroclus he would be in constant suffering . He doesn't need glory and the honour Patroclus is what matters the most to him . That's why when Patroclus dies Achilles just looses it .
