Abortion Rights - Tumblr Posts
hi uh i keep seeing this being debated on tiktok and as your resident adult with a history of infertility who knows just.. way too much about pregnancy and hcg tests: if you are capable of getting pregnant, you really REALLY need to understand how drugstore pregnancy tests work. if there is a line, no matter how faint, that test is POSITIVE. I’ve seen people test positive and get a negative or start their period a few days later and be like “it must have been a false positive”. actual false positives are extremely rare. what most likely happened is something called a ‘chemical pregnancy’ which is when an egg is fertilized but does not implant in the uterus so the pregnancy does not continue. that positive test was not faulty or false, it was just an early test.
if you think you might be pregnant, get your hands on a test. you don’t need the fancy digital ones. the ones you can buy at places like the dollar tree work just as well. buy a few and take one every day until your period comes on if you need to. if there is a FAINT line you aren’t sure about (sometimes tests have something called an indent that makes a shadow that can be mistaken as a very very faint line), test again the next day. as a general rule, morning is the best time to test for most people.
in a post-roe america, is it vitally necessary that you know and understand that because if you intend to terminate, your window is incredibly small in most states and by the time you’ve missed a period or begun to suspect you might be pregnant, there’s a decent chance you are past the cutoff. please please please educate yourselves on this because it could mean the difference between you having access to the healthcare that you need.
"Abortion will again be legal in North Dakota after a state court ruled yesterday [September 12, 2024] that the state’s near-total abortion ban is unconstitutional. The case challenging the ban was brought by the Center for Reproductive Rights and its partners on behalf of a North Dakota abortion provider and its physicians.
Abortion has been illegal in North Dakota since April 2023, when the ban took effect.
“This is a win for reproductive freedom, and means it is now much safer to be pregnant in North Dakota,” says Meetra Mehdizadeh, staff attorney at the Center. “Hospitals and doctors no longer have their hands tied and can provide abortions to patients with complications.”
According to the ruling, North Dakota’s abortion ban violates the state constitution due to its narrow and vague exceptions and because the ban violates the right to reproductive autonomy.
The opinion by Judge Bruce Romanickstated, “The North Dakota Constitution guarantees each individual, including women, the fundamental right to make medical judgments affecting his or her bodily integrity, health, and autonomy, in consultation with a chosen health care provider free from government interference. This section necessarily and more specifically protects a woman’s right to procreative autonomy—including to seek and obtain a pre-viability abortion.”
[Note: In a delicious irony, this is probably one of the state constitutional amendments that passed as a "right to healthcare choice" in an effort to gut Obamacare. Whoops! Backfired! Source)
Tammi Kromenaker, Director of Red River Women’s Clinic, a plaintiff in the case, said, “Today’s decision gives me hope. I feel like the court heard us when we raised our voices against a law that not only ran counter to our state constitution but was too vague for physicians to interpret and which prevented them from providing the high-quality care that our communities are entitled to.”
“Abortion is lifesaving health care; it should not be a crime. I look forward to a new future in North Dakota and hope our lawmakers will finally give up on their crusade to force pregnancy on people against their will,” added Kromenaker.
The abortion ban will be enjoined in the coming days and the ruling is likely to be appealed...
The Center is currently litigating several more cases seeking to clarify the “medical emergency” exceptions under state abortion bans and to broaden the circumstances in which physicians can provide abortions. The cases were brought on behalf of physicians and dozens of women denied abortion care despite facing dangerous and severe pregnancy complications. Read about those medical exceptions cases here."

Since the discussion of abortion previously got heated a bit, it's probably fair to refresh the conversation eh?
I believe topics such as late term abortion/rape and incest should be saved for later within the conversation. Because they are heavier subjects, and are emotionally triggering.
So I ask you, why do you think a Afab person shouldn't have full autonomy of their/her/his body, especially during an unwanted pregnancy? Why does one hypothetical life matter? Is it because the surgery interferes with the process of child birth? Is it just alien to you?
Biblically speaking, the baby is alive the moment it is conceived. As a Christian, I abide by the Bible, so for me, the baby is alive the moment it is conceived.
The baby's conception is entirely out of its hands. It did not ask to be brought to this life, but it is a life that is nevertheless brought.
It is an injustice to blame the baby for something that it was not responsible for, and taking the baby's life is murder, Biblically speaking.
What about you? Why do you believe that full autonomy extends to abortion?
"Maybe some people blame the kid but it's a necessary evil. I understand you probably don't like hearing that, but abortions have saved lives, regardless if you want to admit that."
So I can say that your stand on abortion is that it is a necessary evil, right? To be clear and not put any words in your mouth.
"Would you attempt to understand the paradoxel issue of someone like me (A trans dude.) getting pregnant?"
Are you offering to explain or is this a hypothetical question?

"Look outside of couple sex, or random sex spurgs. Do you know what corrective rape is?? (Still early in the convo, hence why in leading into it.)"
I can look it up, but I would like to hear you explain it.

Forgive me, but I don't see how corrective rape connects to the necessity of abortion. Could you clarify that?

"Is it fair for me to lash out at them for aborting the child because the cause and effect were making them suicidal?"
I guess here is where we discuss the idea of necessary evil, and whether abortion is necessary, or necessarily evil.
So, necessary evil.
I do not believe in the idea of necessary evil, or that there exist the concepts of 'good' and 'evil'. The two extend from the 'truth' that a person subscribes to. For me, my 'truth' is the Bible and my morality is an extension of that truth. The Bible says that life is at conception, and to take that life intentionally is to commit murder. Necessary evil no longer factors into the equation, because my truth draws the line clear from the start.
For you, however, I am going to say that your 'truth' is personal autonomy. Therefore, your morality is that nothing should impinge on a person's control over their body. Therefore, abortion is not a 'necessary evil'. It is necessary to express your 'truth' regarding personal autonomy; a person should have the autonomy to choose to abort a baby.
This autonomy is doubly important when we discuss victims of rape, who may be mentally affected by the act, and the baby may serve as a painful reminder of the act done against them.
However, is abortion necessary?
Because what purpose does abortion serve for a rape victim? It is not a matter of health, generally speaking. Neither is it an issue of justice because a person willing to commit rape probably wouldn't care if the child is killed.
Abortion is a matter of giving control to the victim, which ties into your view of personal autonomy. Give the Woman the choice that was taken from her by the act of rape. Fair.
But autonomy is a two-way thing, Abortion is an option, but another option is to encourage the woman to carry the baby to term and give birth.
The autonomy, in this case, is two-fold; the woman can choose who would adopt the baby if she can't bear to raise it. Or she can raise the baby herself into a contributing member of society. By bringing the baby to term, the woman gets more control over more things in her life than if she got an abortion.
In that case, abortion is no longer 'necessary'.
Is abortion evil?
The fact of the matter is that the baby is innocent of the rape. To turn it into a pointless sacrifice for the woman is injustice. This is a truth, regardless of how one may feel about the situation. In this sense, abortion can be considered an 'evil'. Because justice is a truth that all people share.
Taking the above together, we see that;
Abortion is not necessary.
Abortion is evil.
Therefore abortion is simply 'evil'. It is no longer necessary for a rape victim to have an abortion if the effort used to counsel a woman about the consequences of abortion is used, instead, to encourage a woman that carrying the baby may be a greater act of autonomy than aborting it.

Just putting the verse in its full.
Exodus 21:22-23 KJV.
22 If men strive, and hurt a woman with child, so that her fruit depart from her, and yet no mischief follow: he shall be surely punished, according as the woman's husband will lay upon him; and he shall pay as the judges determine.
23 And if any mischief follow, then thou shalt give life for life,
24 Eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot,
25 Burning for burning, wound for wound, stripe for stripe.
What the verse means, based on the grammar and wording, is:
If men fight and hurt a pregnant woman/female, so that her child is born and yet no harm is done, the man shall be punished as the judges will determine.
If any harm is done to the born baby, the man shall pay according to the harm done to the baby. If the baby dies, the man shall die.
So yes, hurting a child in the womb can be a capital punishment if the harm to the child results in death.
Abortion is harming a child in the womb, and it results in death.
Also, you are right, there are a lot of ways to save lives. But the interest here is to save the life of a child who is going to be aborted. Is it justice to value the life of a child in the womb less than the life of another person?
Since the discussion of abortion previously got heated a bit, it's probably fair to refresh the conversation eh?

Some quotes I have from people speaking out against KOSA, please reblog, tag people, cross-post on other platforms, and share with everyone you can, all quotes are fair use <3
“This law is a scam, created with the express purpose of persecuting LGBTQ+ people and silencing victims of abuse. That is the only possible outcome of these kinds of bills.
Oppose them on principle. Be skeptical whenever they are even brought-up.
This isn’t about safety—it is a takeover of THE major avenue to disseminate information in the modern world. It is more than censorship, it defines the avenues that thought may even take.
It will lead to identity verification companies like Clear or ID.me getting more of people’s private data and guaranteed, exclusive government contracts for surveillance and data collection, in violation of the spirit of the 4th Amendment, if not the letter.
It is also an absolute certainty that conservatives in positions of authority will use this program to persecute LGBTQ+ people, with the force of the State, under the guise of protecting children from pornography and "grooming". It has been an explicit misdirection tactic the right has invented to poison debate on trans rights issues and the (unconnected) growing evidence of sexual impropriety among the powerful, particularly conservatives.
Furthermore, I and most others will not abide by this law, if it is passed, and will take whatever actions necessary to safeguard our personal information via VPN, encryption, onion networking, etc., regardless of their permissibility.”
“This is a violation of basic rights on the Internet. Whatever happened to Freedom of Speech? Or are we just gonna ignore a literal Amendment in favor of “protecting the American children" while many of those children are the ones against this??”
“having full privacy on the internet may have saved my life growing up. don’t take away kid’s privacy, there’s already perfectly reasonable ways for parents to monitor kids.”
“I think that people have a right to privacy online, especially children. This doesn't seem like a bill that would actually protect children from anything, it would just make important resources more difficult to access, increase censorship online, and increase surveillance, all of which I oppose.”
“There are three things you never give out on the internet for your safety. 1) Name, 2) Face, and 3) Home. This bill guarantees that all three will be easily available to those who wish to hurt the children this bill falsely claims to protect. If you actually care about children, stop this bill. Listen to what those of us that actually use the internet are telling you. Children and adults deserve a private, anonymous space to be.”
“i'm a queer teen and i know full well the importance online spaces have in supporting lgbtq+ youth, especially ones who don't have supportive environments in person. censorship doesn't actually erase the information, it just makes it harder to access.”
“I’m writing to urge you to reject the Kids Online Safety Act, a misguided bill that would put vulnerable young people at risk.
KOSA would fail to address the root issues related to kid’s safety online. Instead, it would endanger some of the most vulnerable people in our society while undermining human rights and children’s privacy. The bill would result in widespread internet censorship by pressuring platforms to use incredibly broad “content filters” and giving state Attorneys General the power to decide what content kids should and shouldn’t have access to online. This power could be abused in a number of ways and be politicized to censor information and resources.
KOSA would also likely lead to the greater surveillance of children online by requiring platforms to gather data to verify user identity.
There is a way to protect kids and all people online from egregious data abuse and harmful content targeting: passing a strong Federal data privacy law that prevents tech companies from collecting so much sensitive data about all of us in the first place, and gives individuals the ability to sue companies that misuse their data.
KOSA, although well-meaning, must not move forward. Please protect privacy and stop the spread of censorship online by opposing KOSA.”
“Censorship doesn't keep kids safe. Censorship does not save abused children. Censorship does not save queer children. Censorship will not save any of us. Freedom for us all. Freedom for the internet. This shit cannot stand.”
“This bill is a massive overreach on civil liberties and freedom of speech in particular. It should not be within the government's purview to determine what content is acceptable, no matter which party is in power.”
“As we all know, the major threats to American children today are books, bathrooms, and the Internet.
Not getting shot in their own schools or attacked on their own streets.
Since graduating from the public school system in 2007, I haven't seen anything from elected officials to contradict this.”
“KOSA is a censorship bill in sheep’s clothing. It would erode Americans’ rights to privacy, especially that of vulnerable and marginalized Americans, and gather information about the whereabouts and identities of the children it play-acts at “protecting”.”
“This is a ridiculous law
KOSA is a giant bill that is pretending to be about child safety, but is actually overreaching government censorship. It is a violation of free speech and the 1st amendment.
This bill would require that internet users upload their government ID to access any site, and state attorney generals could sue to remove any site that contains content deemed "harmful" to children. The government will be able to censor ANYTHING - such as abortion info, LGBTQ+ resources, and any content relating to protesting or organizing. They will also be able to ID you if you search for any of these topics. This is the opposite of a free internet!”
“The law is pretty much just a trojan horse for censorship.”
“frankly i dont want to be put on a list the gov has of every queer person who opposes their anti-lgbt laws”
“I care about actually helping people instead of making a bill that is going to kill any ability for anyone to get help. That is going to be used to police anyone who disagrees with the absolute mess everything is right now. The conservative morals don’t allow for anyone not white, cuz, straight, or male; and I won’t have that enforced on the fucking public forum.”
i wish white women would decentralize themselves more often and listen to women of color when we’re talking about social justice issues. abortion bans are not only about having control over people’s bodies, or at least, there’s more to it than that.
the idea is that an injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.
a racial injustice indubitably, somehow, will tie back into a gender issue. you shouldn’t only care about sociopolitical injustice when it effects you directly, but it’s come to my attention that a lot of you lack basic empathy.
the great replacement theory says that white people will eventually be overtaken in number by the black population. white men fear not having enough babies (soldiers) to uphold white supremacy. these men don’t care ab babies; they’re actively using you as incubators for an impending race war.
banning abortion is also an act of class warfare. living is expensive. they refuse to raise minimum wage. they refuse to give us free healthcare. so, what’s the consequence of that? we’ve stopped having children.
covid caused hundreds of thousands of people to lose their lives—for politicians, for businessmen, for capitalists, this means the economy needs more workers. they need more people to sign up for more shifts to feed their children. they need more babies to grow up and eventually become laborers. they need more babies to sell at adoption centers.
my point is that, these issues are all interconnected. classism, racism, and the patriarchy are not just systems of oppression that operate individually. they hold each other up. it’s like an infection—the police, banking, schools; the same country that bipoc have been warning the world about for years, while being ignored by said world, is the same country that snatched up your right to have an abortion.

With every passing day I lose more and more faith in this country and my will to change my name and move to Europe becomes stronger and stronger.
fuck the supreme court of the united states of america.
I know.
You're angry. You should be. You're scared. You should be.
This is awful. It's horrifying. It's deeply depressing. Rage. Scream. Mourn the tragedy we know is coming.
But remember this: what we are about to experience is the world our grandmothers and great grandmothers lived in. This is what they fought against.
Remember that they won. Even if the victory was temporary, they still won.
We can win, too. Prepare yourself. Finish your mourning, and get back to the fight. Yes, it's awful that we have to have this same fight. It's frustrating. It's heartbreaking. But now is not the time to surrender to despair.
Now the work begins.
⚠️trigger warning politics! Genocide mention! May be considered heavy discussion, proceed at your own risk!⚠️
I don't care if this is an inflammatory or radical take, but you're either a decent person or a republican. You're either a decent human being, or right wing.
I don't care if you're normal about queer people, not sexist, not racist, or all of the above, if you can consider yourself right wing you are not a good person. You're actively supporting and are a part of a group that strives to make it impossible for people to be themselves, have bodily autonomy, and even exist.
Don't get me wrong, democrats and other left wing parties are NOT blameless. There are some shitty left wing people. But it's better than being a fucking Trump supporter or some shit. Like come the fuck on, bro has gone full on trans genocide mode and you're telling me you support him? Scum. You're scum, and I have no respect for you if you're a Trump supporter.
if you even think about voting third party fuck you, shut the fuck up, vote blue. I am not the first to say this but in America there is no fucking choice other than red or blue. Vote blue. Vote blue, or human rights are fucked. Being genuinely serious. If Trump or some other republican clown gets into office we all might as well throw in the towel for all the basic rights and quality of life we'll get.
"oh but Kamala's a cop!" I am being so serious when I say I couldn't care less when the alternative is forced detransition. Get your head out of your ass and stop playing pretend and acting like there's a feasible choice other than democrats, because there fucking isn't. Transition changed my life for the better, and I am facing the possibility of having to throw that all away because some pretentious fucks decided to split the damn vote more JUST for Trump to be elected. I don't care if I'm in a blue state, because I have enough brain cells and basic decency to see that not everyone IS; if you want to gamble the lives of queer people and anyone who isn't a cishet white male just for a huff of moral superiority, I genuinely hate you. It fills me with so much fucking rage that people can just pretend their precious third option will do SHIT. IT WON'T.
Fucking GOD. Anyways, this has been a PSA to vote blue or you have blood on your hands. :3
