One of the many things that destroys me about the song Ruin is the way it parallels soĀ many other songs from all the various albums.Ā
We have bricks and stones echoing the bricks and stones in Wild Blue Yonder. We have the wallpaper like in Two Minutes. We haveĀ āI wish that Iād been braveā like theĀ āpeople just pretending to be braveā in Little Miss Why So. We haveĀ āIāll sing silenceā like in Drinking Song. There are metaphors of fire throughout The Amazing Devilās songs in everything from Secret Worlds to New York Torch Song to Wild Blue Yonder, making theĀ āwreck of all weāve burntā even more poigniant. The piano itself echoes that in Two Minutes and Farewell Wanderlust.
Perhaps there is no particular significance to this. Perhaps it says something about the nature of relationships and of life that so many different stories could be seen as prologues to Ruin, to this story of hearbreak and heart-building. Regardless, it makes me emotional every time.

Mayhem: playful, likes prancing, ready to destroy, gotta go F A S T, needs attention or he will die

Despair: no thoughts, head empty, big dumb, falls over, has to be led around by the other horses or Death, forgets food is a thing
At long last, I finally finished these! These games have been an utter plague upon me this year and frankly have given me an itch for fanart that wasn't really there before lol Incredibly happy with how these all turned out, the months spent making these happen were well worth it I think :]

Love this Shawn Mendes song! Ā I love the John Mayer-esque style of this song, and the raw emotion he has. Ā Shawn Mendes has really grown since Handwritten, and this song from Illuminate highlights that perfectly. Ā Not only does his songwriting have a lot more emotional depth, not that Handwritten didnāt have a lot of great songs, but his voice has become a lot better. Ā His slightly raspy tone mixed with those guitar riffs really makes this song so special. He captures the turmoil in these lyrics perfectly. This song is definitely one of the best on Illuminate, even though it doesnāt get as much credit as his other singles.
