So many feelings passing through this framework made of flesh and bones. I lack the canvas of words to paint them. Maybe some feelings needn't be expressed, maybe some are just supposed to be felt and kept close. Either way, to feel is to be alive and I'm grateful to be alive enough to feel.

We smile for the camera,
Inside we all are dying.
Turn off the camera
And you'll see us crying.
We're all pretenders
We're all terrified
To show our true selves
We so strenuously hide.
I said to their face I don't want your society
They laughed at me and called me a freak
They locked me up in a dark room
It echoes everytime I scream
I tell them give me back my wings
I'm Icarus in my dream
They put our minds in prison
Then they tell us we're free
Once I remember my dreams again
I'm gonna break the rules and flee.
I just don't know what to feel anymore. I'm like a black and white photograph. I've got no feelings, no emotions flowing, no colors reflecting my eyes. I'm just present. Like cold grey walls. Just there. Quiet and absent.
Without you I just feel so lonely
Without you there's no one to hold me
Without you there are no colours in the sky
Without you every promise seems like a lie
Without you there's no warmth when it's cold
Without you the happy memories feel so old
Without you the days are meaningless
Without you my heart feels so worthless
Without you there are no peaceful nights
Without you I don't know what's wrong or right
Without you I'm burning like cigarettes
Without you I'm drowning in regrets
Without you there's a war inside my core
Without you I don't randomly smile anymore
Without you the stars seem so ordinary
Without you my feelings are dead and buried
Without you all the love stories seem untrue
Without you my soul's divided into two
Without you ecstasy will never taste sweet
Without you I just feel so incomplete.

You asked me when was the last time I cried
I don't really remember, I lied
Too afraid to tell you it was last night
Was in war with my own mind and I lost the fight
And tears rolled down for a while
I grabbed my pillow and hugged it tight
Here I was, a tragedy made out of life
Crying alone in a room filled with darkness.
There is a monster under my bed
I saw it, it saw me back
It moved it's hand towards me
I held it's hand cause I was lonely.
There is a monster under my bed
It told me dangerous thoughts in it's head
I told it I wished to be dead
And now we are friends.
There's a story at the tips of your fingers, where the paint has dried upon your skin, where the ridges of each printed flesh is filled with golden yellow hues. Tell me, beautiful girl, have you found the strength to paint your own sun?

A Month of Mystery and Shadows Shaina Tranquilino October 1, 2024

As the leaves turn crisp and the days grow shorter, October 2024 marks a special moment in my year-long storytelling journey. For those who have been following along, you know that every month for the next year, I’m diving into a new theme, using it as the creative fuel for a collection of short stories. So far, I’ve explored a wide range of moods and settings. Now, we’re stepping into the eerie, enigmatic heart of autumn, and I couldn’t be more excited to share what’s in store.
This month’s theme is Haunting Whispers.
October always has a certain magic to it, doesn’t it? The crisp air, the glow of pumpkins on doorsteps, the feeling that something unseen might be lurking just out of sight. It’s the perfect time to explore the strange and the spectral, the kinds of stories that send shivers down your spine and make you question every creak in your house late at night.
With Haunting Whispers, I’m going deeper into those unsettling spaces. This theme is all about the voices we can’t quite hear, the secrets hidden just beneath the surface, and the eerie sensation of being watched. Each short story will capture a different aspect of haunting—whether it’s literal ghosts, echoes of the past, or the unsettling whispers of our own minds.
Whispers, especially when haunting, evoke mystery and tension. They can be both intimate and terrifying, something we lean into to hear better, but recoil from once we understand. There’s a quiet power in them—they are hints of something greater, something unknown. This October, I’ll explore those subtle moments of dread, when the truth lingers just out of reach, tempting and terrifying us all at once.
Expect stories with a variety of tones—from ghostly to psychological, from paranormal encounters to more subtle hauntings, where the ghosts aren’t spirits but rather the echoes of choices, memories, and regrets. Some stories might be more traditional in their spookiness, while others will lean into emotional or existential hauntings.
Why Haunting Whispers?
I chose this theme because I believe whispers hold a unique place in storytelling. They can be soft yet insistent, subtle yet unforgettable. A whisper is never meant to be the main event—it's a secret, a suggestion, a call for attention without demanding it. That's why whispers are so haunting—they leave so much to the imagination. What is being said, and more importantly, why is it being said quietly?
For this month, I want to play with that tension—between what's being told and what’s being withheld, what we hear and what we imagine. October is the perfect time to tap into these shadows of storytelling, when the nights are longer and the mind is more prone to wander into strange, unsettling places.
I hope you’ll join me on this month-long journey into the eerie and unknown. Whether you’re a long-time fan of ghost stories or someone who enjoys psychological twists and emotional depth, Haunting Whispers will have a little something for everyone.
Each day, I’ll post a new story, and at the end of the month, I’ll reflect on what I’ve learned from exploring these darker corners of imagination. I’d love to hear from you as well—what whispers are you haunted by? What stories have lingered with you long after you’ve turned the last page?
This October, let’s embrace the mystery of the whispers, the things left unsaid, and the chilling feeling that someone—or something—may be watching from the shadows.
Until then, stay curious, stay haunted, and above all, listen closely. You never know what you might hear.
Characters Types
Protagonist:
The Protagonist is the main character of your story. They are the most mentioned, the one who drives the plot, the one the readers will be paying most of their attention to. Generally, there is only one, but there can be more than one protagonist in a story.
Antagonist:
The Antagonist is the character that goes against the Protagonist. An Antagonist doesn’t have to be a person, necessarily. It can be a group of people, society, nature, et cetera. They don’t even have to be evil, they just need to go against the Protagonist’s motives.
Villain:
Both the Villain and the Antagonist are opponents of the Protagonist. Though, the main difference is the Villain has bad intentions. They are evil.
Dynamic Character:
A Dynamic Character is the person who undergoes a change throughout the story, whether it be good or bad. The character’s motives or morals are different than they were in the beginning. The change is normally permanent.
Flat or Static Character:
A Flat or Static Character is the opposite of a Dynamic Character, hardly experiencing any changes throughout the story, if at all. Generally, the reader doesn’t know much about this character.
