The Cat and the Fox - a Life series AU idea
Scar bounded through a twisted, green forest with the silent thumping of paws, afraid that something could jump out of the trees and attack him at any moment. Or the trees themselves could jump out at him. Or something else entirely. What did he know?
It had felt like years since the Shadow Queen had sworn vengeance upon these lands, tearing apart their home with wicked plantlife and inflicting a terrible curse upon them that only spread and spread. Scar’s friend Mumbo had said that the trees that she grew were angry at them for some reason, and angry trees definitely didn’t sound very fun to deal with. But then the curse spread, and Mumbo left them. He could have been transformed into any number of terrible beasts. Maybe Mumbo was watching him right now, and could see what Scar himself had turned into.
Scar kept running through the forest.
Ba-bum bump ba-bum bump ba-bum bump.
Pant pant pant.
The feeling of wind in his face.
His padded, hidden claws bounding across the leafy forest floor.
Just keep running. Just clear your mind. Just need to find-
The sudden thought put a giant weight on Scar’s heart, like a rock, undoing all the numbness that his time alone in the forest had done. His running slowed to a trot, then to nothing at all. If he was able to cry in this body, he would have.
The heavy thought made him realize that had no idea where his original body was. He had no idea where any of his friends were, or even if they were okay. He simply hung all of his hopes on the premise that Grian had gone into this cursed forest to find Mumbo (or die trying), and had managed to survive. Without Grian, Scar would have never survived the curse for as long as he did. Surely Grian would do just fine out here on his own. Scar would do the best he could in this body, find Grian, and everything would be just fine! He was sure of it.
Scar yawned, his pointy teeth glimmering, and he fell asleep, the golden sunlight warming his fur.
Scar awoke to a strange, cackling-like sound that echoed through the woods ominously. Whatever had made it was definitely not happy, and it was getting closer and closer. Why had he fallen asleep? He had no idea how to defend himself against another creature!
He supposed that he had some advantages, of course. Scar had very sharp claws, was more agile than he had been when he was a human, and was large and bulky enough to shake off a hard hit. But he hadn’t gotten used to any of these abilities, and he had no idea whether the creature was a transformed human like he was, or just another animal.
He stood up, his fur standing on edge and his tail instinctively tucking beneath him. The strange-sounding creature was getting closer still. Scar backed up against a knotted tree, hissing and trying his best to sound intimidating. The critter emerged from out of the underbrush, and finally Scar got a good look at it. It was, for the most part, a normal-looking arctic fox with silvery-white fur, except for the fact that it had a thin slash through one of its eyes, which glowed an intimidating red. They also appeared to have more than one bushy tail that wagged dangerously behind them. Was it two tails? Ten? It was hard to say for sure.
The fox prowled around Scar, studying him with its cold, dark eyes. Scar took the hint and began to circle the fox in turn, bracing himself for a showdown. The two creatures circled each other for a while, and after what felt like ages, the fox pounced unexpectedly, pinning Scar to the ground with its thick, black claws.
“N-no!” Scar mewed, bracing for the fox to strike with its sharp canines. Fortunately, the fox never did. As soon as the fox heard Scar’s voice, it stopped, studying him with surprise.
“Uh… Scar?” The fox said in a voice that Scar recognized.
“Etho?” Scar responded, equally surprised. He had known the tall, light-haired man during what felt like ages ago, but that was before Etho had a tail (or ten, for that matter). But that didn’t make very much sense. Etho was strong! Scar thought that Etho would have surely survived against the curse.
“So, what are you doing out here?” Etho asked, his tails flicking in every direction. “Did the curse get to you as well?”
“…Yeah,” Scar answered, his ears flattening against his head.
He always felt that his cursing was his own fault. Grian had warned him not to go too far into the forest, and to just stay on the outskirts. But of course, Scar never listened. His cane got stuck on a knotted root and he tripped, was attacked by a cursed she-wolf, and had ended up where he was now.
“Sorry about attacking you,” Etho said, his ears lowering slightly. “You never know whether a cursed animal could be hostile or not, you know.”
Then a slow smile spread across his lips. “just out of curiosity… Did I make you jump?”
“Oh, definitely,” Scar laughed. “So… how have you been doing?” It was an awkward question. What else do you ask somebody who’s just attacked you and you haven’t seen in forever?
“Not terrible, actually,” Etho said to Scar’s surprise. “I have a nice place in the side of a mountain. I’m actually rooming with Cleo right now, since she was doing about as great as I am.” Etho flexed his claws, a sad expression passing across his face. “It’s pretty cold and dark most of the time, but at least I have some company.”
“Oh! Well, that sounds just great!” He said, but to tell the truth, Scar hadn’t expected any of that. He knew firsthand that Cleo and Etho had an interesting relationship, to say the least.
Etho then trotted away without another word, but Scar followed him intently.
“Where ‘ya going, Etho?” Scar asked, trying to get past Etho’s great mass of tails.
“Uhh, back to Cleo’s?” Etho said flatly.
“Well, I’m coming with you, aren’t I?” Scar said hopefully.
“You… want to move back in with us?” Scar had to admit it was a fair question. He had lived with Cleo, Bdubs, and Etho a while back, forming a sort of dysfunctional family, emphasis on dysfunctional.
“Aw, I wouldn’t call it so much as moving in. I’m kind of new to this whole thing, and I haven’t seen any of you in ages!”
Etho sighed. “Ok,” was all he said, but it was more than enough for Scar.
The large, gray cat bounded beside the strange fox with joy welling up in his chest. Scar didn’t have to be alone anymore. All that was left to do was to find Grian, and then all his problems would be sorted. Scar told this to himself the whole way there, until he knew in his heart that it was true.
Double life smp tarot
Before the series ends I decided to write which tarot suit the pairs the most using the site Labyrinthos
The Lovers- Similar to my afterlife tarot post where death was the server The Lovers is the arcana of The double life servers
The Hermit- In the upright position is Smajor which doesn’t suit him, however the card in reverse which represent loneliness and isolation represent the forever alone Pearl
The Tower- In the upright position part of the tower’s thing is disaster while the reversed position represent delayed disaster which honestly represent Grian (reverse) and Scar (upright) perfectly
The Hierophant- I already gave Smajor and Pearl the Hermit so I’m giving the Hierophant to Cleo (Reversed) and Martyn (Upright) due to the Hierophant in its upright position meaning tradition and the Hierophant in its reversed position meaning rebellion (assuming from tradition) which is something Cleo has been doing in double (this also applies to Smajor and Pear, but the hermit fit at least for Pearl more)
The Wheel of Fortune- I’m giving this tarot to the now dead duo of Tango (Upright) and Solidarity (reversed) due to the Wheel in its upright position representing inevitable fate (Don’t want to be mean to Solidarity, but he has died first in every life series so it was bad for tango) and the reversed meaning bad luck (once again not being mean to the man, but his last ep did say he’s cursed)
The Emperor- I give this to Rendog (upright) and Bigs (reversed) and this is more of a vibe thing because part of the emperors thing in the upright position is authority while in the reversed position is tyranny
The Chariot- I’m giving this to Etho (upright) and Smallishbeans (reversed) mostly due to Smallishbeans unwanted aggression (which is what it means in reverse) against anything that moves such as horses and etho is rather chill which I don’t know if it correlates to willpower (what it means in upright), but he show some constraint
The Magician- I give this to Bdub and Impulse (either in reverse or upright) as part of reverse thing is trickery and uprights is creativity

It's 2031, and Hermitcraft Season 15 has just started.
DocM77 has created a machine that adds a new dimension. Zero mods, no resource packs, just redstone and glitches. He is using Netherite blocks for his redstone circuits.
JimmySolidarity joined two seasons ago, and has died first every time. He is very careful this season, but other Hermits kill him first on purpose.
TangoTek has built Decked Out 4 in the End. It is roughly four times the size of the main island, and the dragon has been captured and sealed in an obsidian box so that it will make a cool sound effect in one specific room.
SMajor joined five days ago, and he has already been in a fan-favourite duo with half the server. His Ao3 tag has quadrupled in size, and his tumblr tag is full of art vaguely shipping him with just about anyone with a face.
Pearl has been a landscaper, a janitor, a postmaster, an accountant, a bus driver, and a librarian. Running out of public service jobs, she has started showing up at people's houses in real life with teas and coffees. No one's sure how she gets there.
Etho's tissue box has finally disintegrated, and everyone is excitedly recommending him mic stands. He is trying to hide the fact that he has put an exact copy of the box in its place already.
Zombie Cleo has become so adept at manipulating armor stands that they can perfectly recreate literally anything. Including things that by all rights should not exist. New viewers occasionally complain about lovecraftian nightmares and mental issues after seeing them. Cleo and their older viewers laugh like it's an inside joke.

ZombieCleo x Junji Ito
For Cleo I chose the work of Junji Ito! Specifically I looked at references from Uzumaki, Ribs Woman, She is a Slow Walker, The Enigma of Amigara Fault, and Tomie.
Junji Ito is a master of horror illustration, specializing in body horror and surreal horror. As such his works are not appropriate for younger readers (it will give you nightmares).
In fact, I toned this Cleo quite a lot for the final draft, but I am still tagging this with a number of horror related tags in case people have those filtered out on their dash.

Junji Ito is a Japanese manga artist who writes and illustrates uniquely disturbing horror stories. Most of his works are fairly short and are best enjoyed in one sitting for maximum suspense.
His most famous work however, Uzumaki, is a full-length, 19 chapter surreal/psychological horror about a town that is slowly consumed by a plague of spirals. It's really difficult to explain how disturbing the story is from such an odd concept but trust me, if you are a fan of scary stories and haven't read Uzumaki yet, you are missing out on some of the best horror out there.
My personal favourite Junji Ito story is The Enigma of Amigara Fault. This is a story about mysterious, human shaped holes that appear in the side of a mountain. When someone sees the hole that fits them they are driven by a strange compulsion to enter. That's it, that's the story. Please go read it - it's horrifying.
Im a big fan of horror and specifically of Junji Ito, so I couldnt pass up the opportunity to try out his style with the lovely ZombieCleo. My hand cramped up pretty badly towards the end, but I think I love how their face turned out - I think I nailed that part of the drawing for sure.

Cleo figured out something was up and confronted joe a week after Grian died.
Joe broke down crying in Cleo's arms and told her everything he knew and got from Ren.
But Cub and Zed went a different way. They read a book that was handwriting that was found in the shulker Zed 'borowred'.
' 14.XX. XXXXXX. Today I'll get to met up with Sam and Taurtis in Japan!.........'

The two hermits read and read. They thought that the admin died years ago and that Evolution was just a myth.
"Why do you both have his book?" A voice spoke from behind.
"Ren! Uh We found it in the shopping district," Cub lied.
"Right. And the shulker, his sweaters?" Ren asked.
"Also at the district, " Zed lied as well.
"... That's Tango's, that's docs, and Xisuma's while that book is mine," Ren saw through the lies.

so...few days ago I've created a hermitcraft mermaid au. and here ya go, some of my thoughts about it and also my drawings.
first of all, cub, grian, zedaph, tango, joehills, xisuma and impulse are humans, when scar, doc, pearl, skizz, cleo are mermaids(I didn't think of other hermits yet)
here's also a bit of lore happening, so let's talk little bit about every hermit.
•xisuma
- he is an owner of this whole circus oceanarium and ocean research center.
- he is a strange guy, once he even stole a bone from rendog to chew on! but nonetheless, he is a hard working man and he does all the managing work better than anyone else possibly could
•scar
- cub and grian were the first to find alive mermaid, which happened to be scar. scar, as the most kind and innocent soul, of course, most of the time spent saving sea creatures from fishing nets, plastic junk and etc, though got a lot of injuries himself. he had been in an accident just before he was caught, so he didn't have a chance to escape due to movement issues, because his tail and fins were badly injured
- scar is an orca! but he won't eat you, don't worry. he might try, though
- most of the time there is only one scientist watching him, and it is cub. even though at first cub was too serious about his job, depicting scar more like an object other than a living creature with thoughts and feelings, it was gone in a little while when two of them had a chance to actually know each other more. you could say, scar softened cub's heart
- he is a silly boy, trying to escape his aquarium probably every day at first, thinking of place as a prison. none of his attempts were successful, to be honest, but he never stopped trying
- also, once he even got in a physical fight with grian, being mad that he was in the team who catched him. who won? for some reason it was grian, who is smaller twice in size and not so good underwater
- grian got in trouble many times because of his experiments and especially testing human food on scar. once he had serious food poisoning because of it, and cub never let grian be alone near scar's aquarium again
- scar once asked for human meat and got a "cubfan live reaction". canniballism is pretty common between mermaids, so he was expecting the same from humans
•doc
- doc is a giant moray eel.
- you could say he is the most intelligent and smart fish you've seen! not just by mermaid standards, but by human too. before the oceanarium he was living in an old warship, where he found a room with books that were not touched by water. that's where from he knows chemistry, physics, engineering and other, that's also where he learned english better, as he is originally from german waters(scientists where really impressed that mermaid could have an accent).
- but this ship happened to be in a military zone, where people one time were testing a bomb and underwater explosion happened. doc nearly made it out alive, though got almost incompatible with life injuries. he couldn't be healed by wrapping wounds with seaweed, so he decided to go to humans to the research center by himself, making a deal: he agreed to be studied for science purposes but got a proper treatment for his injuries in return.
- by that point, he was second one to be "caught"
- he is really smart and he will not be missing an opportunity to squeeze out everything from people working there. he got the best aquarium with the best accessories, rocks, corals and filters. it took almost over a year to figure all of this out and a lot of pressure on workers, but doc is not feeling guilty
- he really likes to eat tomatoes
- he also really likes to get out of his tank and go on an adventure to other mermaids. scar is living nearest to him, so you could often see these two hang out
- he created the word "scitties" and scar likes to use it (especially in situations when he is suggested to wear clothes. he says his scitties are too precious to hide them)
- after some time doc became the first mermaid scientist. his high intelligence just couldn't be ignored
- doc helped to create prosthetic fins and tail for scar
- eventually there was created a special gadget just for doc, so he could easily speak with other scientists even being under the water
- scientist connected to him is grian. they are in good terms and grian totally acknowledges his cleverness. gridoc nation rise up
•ren
- oh sweet, sweet rendog! you just couldn't guess what he is. he is... a dog, simple as that. but a smart one!
- although, he doesn't like meat. he is a vegetarian dog!
- his duty mostly is to deliver food to mermaids. he doesn't like to deliver food to scar as it's mostly chocolate chip cookies and lots of raw meat, and he totally adores to visit doc because of his love for tomatoes
- doc likes to escape, and ren likes doc, so he always goes after him with a mop in his teeth to hide water paddles he is creating
- ren is well-trained and all of the staff knows him, so he has access to almost every room in both oceanarium and research center
- he likes to sleep near doc's aquarium. sometimes doc goes out of water at night, waits for his hand to dry and gently pets him
- oh. and ren also has a very specific addiction. this little fur boy always steals people's sunglasses. why does he do that? why does a dog even need sunglasses? nobody knows. but that is such a common thing, that nobody even cares anymore. yep, there's a dog running around in sunglasses, what is wrong with that?
•here's the fun part. beloved zits!!!
- impulse is the only one true ocean scientist in their group
- zedaph lived most of his life on a farm and knows pretty much everything about farm animals. he is a crazy zoologist and has basically zero idea how to deal with fish
"that's a weird looking chicken", - he says, looking at any mermaid
- tango is an engineer and a drummer in his own band. he slays and also he has a lot of tattoos
- although tango's band isn't zit band, they were playing together in college! they all had their rock phase, zedaph even has scars from piercings made in that time
- the star of our show... skizzleman!! skizz for short, he is a manta ray, and he is going mental. he screams, he bites, he fights, he likes to bother others and especially impulse
- skizz made impulse fall in his tank for countless amount of times
- skizz and impulse often fight, verbally and physically, but also for some reason their bond is very strong. they like each other, just in a different way, but their way to this was very hard
- and yep, he is the reason why all of the zit are here. he's just too strong and uncontrollable for one human to handle, so impulse had to get his friends
- skizz is very clumsy and can't exist out of water due to being a manta ray, so trying to escape he makes just one step and then is found right outside the aquarium angry and waiting for someone to come and put him back
•pearl and gem
- pearl is a blue-ringed octopus!
- she spent a lot of time near the shore at the port and most of the time was listening to people, trying to guess meaning of unknown words and adoring strange human stories. it happened in australia, that is the place where she got an accent. it is an exceptional case too, but unlike doc, this accent is not natural, but a learned one
- pearl's only and favourite piece of clothing is a hoodie with oceanarium logo
- as a natural enemy, doc fears to go near pearl. when he is asking her if she's safe, she never gets him a clear answer
- gem is doing mermaid shows! yes, she is not a real one, she just has her costume and adorable coral horns
- oceanarium got gem a tank to exercise and to rehearse her shows. it appeared that pearl was basically living alongside. they liked each other at first sight, but for months weren't able to communicate well, it was only through body language
- pearl sees gem as a goddess for her elegant, exquisite and beautiful movements. no real mermaid moves like that, so that's just something so exotic and unreal in pearl's eyes, it makes her stare without blinking every time
- once impulse was in charge of caring for pearl and he saw what happened between two. he got a permission for gem to visit pearl's aquarium, and that was the first time they got to really know each other. it was the happiest day!!!
- gem is the only one who can calm down skizz and make him feel fear. nobody understands how, but sometimes impulse asks her when skizz is getting unbearable
- impulse, gem and pearl are often seen hanging out together. they created a trio called "soup group". the name was created because of pearl's unexplainable love for soups of any kind
• cleo and joe
- cleo is a sea snake
- she has fish hooks and spear parts in her on places where in canon she usually would get stitches
- she is basically a nature miracle, because she is a zombie, literally dead creature, but for some reason she keeps on going
- half of her organs are not working properly or are not working at all
- because of doc and cleo scientists guess that mermaids are far stronger and tougher than people, as they tend tο survive even in the most dangerous and unreal situations
- also doc and cleo are extremely big
- not to mention these two are really fond of each other. their tanks are located far away, but doc sometimes gets to cleo and they have the best time in the whole world
- joe is an ocean geek who once won an excursion behind the scenes of oceanarium and research center. that's where he met cleo, and for some reason she caught his eye
- he was very persistent and got a permission to sometimes meet cleo under supervision. it was said, that it is good for experience in interspecies communication, so scientists didn't mind
- though, he didn't do anything inappropriate. he was basically just finding a friend in a strange zombie mermaid! he showed her his favourite shows, comic books, was teaching cleo how to read, they were drawing and scrapbooking with her. just a couple of ocean besties!
- although joe cooks and brings mostly exotic or strange foods, cleo likes it a lot
- cleo likes to scare people and mermaids, but when she tried to scare joe she saw only pure excitement in his eyes
•honorable mention, mumbo, who is a plumber and engineer. everyone keeps calling him mario. he even got a big m on his head!
also: it is canon that all of the mermaids are kind of buffed
I just had a random thought. We all know how Joe and Cleo met, right? We all know the infamous story of how Joe challenges Cleo to a fight to the death, a fight which inevitably ends with Joe as the victor. Their first ever interaction is the time he kills her, but I’ve just had the thought that I don’t think I’ve ever seen Joe kill her since? Indirectly, yes, but not by his own hand. Like I’m sure it’s happened, they’ve known each other for over 10 years, I’m sure it has to have happened, even by accident. I just for the life of me cannot think of a single instance where he’s killed her intentionally (although I’ve only been here since season 6 so I got lots of other seasons to check). Again, I’m sure it’s happened, I just think it would actually be kind of interesting narrative wise if he hadn’t. Like he kills her that one time and then never holds a blade to her again, even when Cleo herself has killed him on multiple occasions. They had their duel and that was enough, he promptly decides he’s not going to fight her anymore.
