Oceans Apart

Oceans Apart

Oceans apart

We strive

To keep

Our hearts alive

Try to bridge the distance

With anticipated calls

Staying up

Until dark shadows loom

But we're straight lines

Stretching far and wide

Won't meet

Unless we turn ourselves

Into circles

I linger hours

After the line went dead

Listen for words

Unspoken

I'd take it

Though it hurts

More than it shows

I'd bottle

Tears waiting to flow

To hear your laugh

Reverberates

Making every midnight

Alive with all my

Suppressed yearnings

Breathing in hope

For my futile dreams

Writerscreed Interviews: @stormykatie

Our next interview is with Ana Katerina of @stormykatie . Ana is 28, and from the Philippines. She’s a teacher by profession, teaching Social Studies to high school students. She’s also enrolled in law school and at the same time, taking up her Masters degree in Social Studies.

WC: What’s the story behind your url?

A: I’ve always been extremely untamable. I think it has something to do with my passion for learning. I refuse to be contained in anything that hinders my growth intellectually. Even as a little girl I’ve always been the curious one, always eager to uncover mysteries that might be hidden in things. But the place where I grew up, a small island in the northernmost part of the country is very much tied up to traditions and conventional beliefs thus limiting my chances to really explore and learn. So I became fascinated with the storm because it is extremely untamable. It can change course, above all, it is fierce and free. It’s everything I want to be.

WC: Do you still live in the same place?

A: Not anymore. But I go back there once in a while whenever I feel the need to remember who I was. It’s important to always go back to where you came from.

WC: truth

WC: What got you into writing?

A: First of all,  I am not much of a talker. I prefer to be engulfed in ripples of silence, observing depth in its extremities. But everyone has a role to play and writing seems to be the most suitable role for the kind of personality that I have. Since I can’t express my thoughts orally most often than not, pen has become a paramount tool for me. More importantly, writing has always been a passion. And such was intensified when I was introduced to the Epic of Gilgamesh back in High School. Gilgamesh was the legendary king of Uruk who ventured for the secret of immortality but failed. His failed quest stirred my imagination. What if the secret of immortality lies in a pen and a sheet of paper? You see, writers’ influence lives on for generations. They are remembered. What is closer to immortality than that?  So I write.

WC: That’s beautiful. what other authors would you consider to be an inspiration to you?

A: Thank you. When I was younger Alexander Dumas and Sidney Sheldon were the greatest inspiration. Now, I have Anne Rice, Dan Brown and of course, Paulo Coelho. 😀

WC: All of them are definitely great in their own way

WC: What do you write about? is there a topic you tend to gravitate towards?

A: I write a lot about love, being the universal theme; the beauty of finding it and so with the pain of losing it. Sometimes, I try to inculcate my passion for quantum physics in my writing; the concept of time and space, black holes and all those unfathomable mysteries governing the universe.

WC: Do you mainly write poetry, or do you have anything longer in the works?

A: Poetry writing is a new thing to me to be honest. I started writing poems when I created my blog, that was about 11 months ago. I am still on the verge of experimenting which style works better. I wrote a lot of short stories before especially back in college when I work for the school paper, most of which gravitated towards mystery, psychological thriller and some other macabre themes. I am currently working on a novel which basically explores Criminal Law and its applications and a touch of Psychology. As I have learned in my rigorous study Psychology is indispensable for the practice of law.

WC: The novel topic sounds intriguing. do you have any plans to publish it?

A: Thanks. The ultimate dream has always been to be published someday.

WC: Fair enough.

WC: Why do you like writing?

A: Thank you.

A: The primordial reason why I like writing is because it provides me an avenue to explore and learn more of me as a person.  Moreover, it also allows me to have a distinct voice that can touch and influence a lot of people. Just knowing that someone (actually) took time to read my work and was able to relate to what I’ve conveyed in that particular piece is euphoric. I would like to have more of that feeling. It’s quite fulfilling and transforming.

WC: The writing community on here can definitely be great for that.

WC: How do you feel you’ve grown since starting this blog?

A: I can honestly say, I am more motivated to write now than I was before I started this blog.

A: You’re definitely right. That’s why I love it here.

WC: Writing more is always a plus

WC: Last question, any fun facts you’re willing to share?

A: It is. 😀

A: Apart from writing, I also devote my time in drawing especially when stressed from work and study. I was asked to write a song for my students ’ band. I am a coffee lover. I drink about 5 cups of coffee a day, it doesn’t matter if it’s high noon or midnight. I am a cat person. I am at my most creative when I am watching a good movie. I wrote a lot of my poems at the theater.

WC: Very, very cool!

WC: Thank you for taking the time to talk to me

A: Thank you 😀

A: The pleasure’s all mine. 💓

Maybe we made all the wrong moves, clung to the vine of false hope. Now all our dreams are lost along with the stars we lassoed.

//

I don't get it sometimes. Why do we need to waste so much time? Spill so much words to prove what our hearts scream all the time.

//

Can we just invade each other's minds in silence; pick the snippets of our souls recklessly scattered.

//

Maybe we're too loud, we failed to listen to the clues. Now we're lost as we missed the blazing fire of truth.

//

I guess it's there, the answer to all the questions rambling in our head. How can a gargantuan icebeg rise at the center of our bed?

//

Drawing us farther away like continents drifting. I reach for your hand, not wanting to lose you to the evening.

//

If you held my hand that night and dreamed with me, maybe we could have known what's right.

//

If we have listened to all the resounding symphony, we could have discovered the signs.

//

In this very grave, I wonder if we ever made the right choice. For even when the storm calms, I can't hear your voice.

//

What if we're wrong like the lyrics of every song we wrote? Surely, they rhymed but what about the chaotic notes?

//

The mismatched pieces of puzzle we tried to fit somehow? With the disturbing sound of our hearts breaking, will we still ignore the signs?

//

If the universe rubs the truth in your face, will you still stay? If every word tells you we're not meant for each other, will you push the idea away?

//

For even if fate doesn't favor us, I still choose to stay. I love you with every fiber of my being is what I will repeatedly say.

//

Maybe we made all the wrong moves, clung to the vine of false hope. But if we try, we can still find the dreams we lost and perhaps, all the stars we lassoed.

//

-The stars we lassoed,

Katie, 15:00
