Obey Me Rewrite - the Passion Project

Note: spoilers below the cut

I’ve always been in love with the game obey me and been super passionate about it as a long time fan however the game itself is kind of lacking.

Obviously it does what it does well, it’s a dating simulator about demons from hell but what I mean is it lacks potential.

I love the characters and their relationships with each other and the overall concept, that is what made me fall in love with it in the first place however I do have my own issues with the game not as a dating simulation but as a story.

To give you more context:

Characterization

- characters are given great potential with interesting backstories and fun personalities however the direction the game takes them completely wastes any sort of progression as interesting 3 dimensional characters

Example: Satan - he is shown to show personal struggle with a sort of inferiority complex with the way he was brought into this world (or hell) by people only viewing him as an extension of Lucifer and only as wrath, not as an individual living being. He works hard to create a name for himself and he prides himself on wisdom. He has a strong character and one of the best self restraint in terms of anger I dare say (he did attack mc but honestly from the way he was acting in Nightbringer it is progression) plus he is calm and collected and obviously by now a respected demon. Though he knowledgeable in itself, he still has issues to work with, one being working out his difficulties with Lucifer, (maybe) coming to terms with the way he was born and the trauma he went through when Lilith fell (he technically felt Lucifer’s pain). Instead as the series progressed we only saw him a soft cat boy, cmon 😀.

There are much more examples of this in fact all of them have such wasted potential, I’m not going to go in depth (unless someone asks me to hehe) but a very notable mention I would also like to make is

Example 2: MC - I’m not going to comment on how they are dull or has no personality because actually they can be very sassy depending on which options you choose. Also the mc is supposed to just be a self insert so I understand that enough. Anyways what I would like to give note to is the fact that mc forgave belphie right away after he I don’t know KILLED US? Or should I say, more accurately, the game forced us to forgive him so we would have the belphie lovey dovey options (no hate to belphie stans I’m just saying). What I mean to say is that we shouldn’t have not forgiven him you know, honestly it’s more of pacing. We COULD have forgiven him and actually that would be interesting development and a look into their backstory as angels, however there was no real progression towards forgiveness or us even being remotely scared of him (I may be wrong on this but I remember belphie and mc becoming besties real quick with no hard feelings) like the snappy mc incorrect quotes I think would actually fit well into the story as well as proper talk and real progression towards forgiveness.

2. Concepts and storylines

This is slightly less of an issue but I do take slight to the way the game handles storylines. Season 1 was the best (in my opinion) because it was less of “uwu mc marry me” content and more of demons being demons.

Alright so this really bugged me but I don’t like how MC is a a descendant of Lilith, like I know the brothers and Lilith are not blood related and are honestly more found family and that MC and Lilith and so far related (in terms of how many generations were between them) that they barely share dna I believe (in terms of physical dna and all that good stuff not the angelic powers) but I’ve always found it kind of gross but I guess that’s just a me problem…

I’m going to take the next part of my issues with concepts and storyline as general as possible but it’s really long but… hell doesn’t feel like hell, or should I say devildom doesn’t sound like hell

There is technology in other depictions of hell (like Hazbin hotel) but that’s done better because it’s not so emphasized (I know DDD is part of the game but I think they drive the technology bit overboard) it’s a lot less subtle and hell just feels like an abridged human world with slight magic involved.

The demons don’t even act like demons or look like demons, as hot as their demon forms are they look like emo teenagers that just discovered hot topic like girl bye 😭. They don’t act remotely demonic like sometimes, and everything just seems like a cosplay is the best way I can describe it. I know it’s 12+ and not 18+ but I really enjoy the more gorey fanfic versions of obey me concepts because that feels like hell, it brings out emotions in me of shocked scared and surprised which is what Dre me into the game in the first place, not a bunch of boys going to play dress up and harass the MC.

I have much more problems with the game( I still love so obviously I’m gonna play it) but this is more of a rant and I just played Nightbringer so I hope there is more lore that resolves some of my issues but yeah!

I’m not that skilled of a writer or anything but I would really like to try and rewrite obey me as a kind of “real hell” as a passion project, obviouslt no characters, or anything trademarked belong to me this is more of for fun. Again I’m not that experienced so if anyone would like to give me tips on how to write or would lousy like to chat about obey me, about this rant and other issues or just obey me in general feel free to dm me I’m always looking for more obey me stuff hehe but yeah, or actually honestly I just want your opinion on this.

I know it’s not that deep it’s a game about horny demons but it still means a lot to me and I hope you guys understand where I’m coming from. Thank you.

can the obey me fandom please stop being collective assholes to the fans that don’t want to headcanon the brothers as submissive, lactation-kink having, golden shower loving, cries-when-he-comes baby girls?? it’s okay to be into that, but not everybody is. that’s the fun thing about HEADcanons. it’s what each of us imagine that character liking/being like IN OUR OWN HEADS. HEADCANONS ARE FOR OURSELVES NOT THE MASSES.

reblogging because it’s still relevant considering that solmare is now shoving an ad down our throats everytime we open the NB app. We see the stupid hell time super sale as soon as we open the app, on our home screen, and in the left hand side news thing. solmare won’t change this even though fans are PISSED. i remember when solmare gave a shit about us, but that time is clearly since long gone. it makes me so sad to see obey me going this direction and seeing these characters i love so much wasted in the hands of the OM! Devs. do fucking better, solmare. do so much fucking better.

i love obey me but i do NOT like solmare. they can kick rocks for all i care.

So, on twitter a post was made asking people what they’re hot takes on Obey Me are and most of the responses were valid criticisms. But then people started tweeting about how all the criticisms were mean and weren’t valid and we’re just being hateful to be hateful (I looked through every response and that wasn’t the case). Then the OP was essentially forced to delete the tweet because people were being mean to them.

Is this fandom really so sensitive to criticisms about their precious little gacha game that they deem any criticism bad? People are allowed to be mad about the way Solmare is being and the direction they’re going with Obey Me. I know I’m mad about it. They way the ditched the OG, never publicly told us that they were, never told us about daily chats ending in OG, never told us that birthday events would stop, the way they’re putting so much shit behind paywalls in NB, the way they forced players to start over from square 1 just to milk more money. These are all valid criticisms and were all mostly shared in the responses to the original tweet. If the fandom can’t be vocal about all the things wrong with Solmare/Obey Me there won’t be any improvements. If Solmare can’t hear these criticisms because fans are being harassed into deleting their hot takes from the internet, then Solmare will continue on the path they’re on and Obey Me is going to crash and burn.

I love obey me. I wouldn’t have dedicated every day of the past 3 years of my life to playing it, collecting merch, writing fan fic, and being apart of this community if i didn’t love it. I want to see it flourish and thrive for many more years. But Solmare HAS to understand what they’re doing is wrong and that the fans don’t like it. Otherwise, Obey Me might as well have been dead on arrival when Nightbringer came out.

returning to say that solmare has literally only gotten worse and greedier. here i was thinking “wow,, they’ve gotten so bad lately they couldn’t possibly get worse! … right?” but here we are. i’m so sick of solmare, i wish id never discovered obey me and gotten attached to the characters. literally solmare as a whole is such a bullshit, terrible company.

it’s kind of getting on my nerves seeing people getting mad at others for pointing out s*lmare’s shitty behavior. like, i get that people may not want to see negativity about the games/devs but acting like people aren’t allowed to be negative is a whole different thing.

look. i’m not trying to be seen as the like “ultimate s*lmare hater™︎” or anything (or maybe i am), but i’m just going to compile a quick and nowhere near exhaustive list for everybody so they understand why i and so many other fans are still so mad. because quite frankly i’m sick of people crying on twitter that i’m “just being mean” when what i’m really doing is calling a spade a spade.

for an ENTIRE YEAR before nightbringer was released, devs never told anybody that a new game was coming out. everybody grinded for an ENTIRE YEAR because we were kept under the impression that a new season was coming to OG only to be told “haha we’re going to make you pretty much redo the whole story again (but in the past :O !!!) only after which you’ll get a conclusion for OG :)” [the end of lesson 80 of OG literally said coming soon until AFTER nightflop was announced.]

devs waited until a reddit ama to even tell us that a new game was coming, but only when asked by a fan who’s question subsequently got buried in all the other responses. the only reason anybody else saw it is because it was screenshotted and posted to twitter and in its own post on reddit. no official announcement was made prior. the first official announcement we got was like a week or two before nightflop was released.

they keep pushing out terrible quality events back to back just to milk money from fans even though the vast majority of fans have said they don’t like back to back events because the quality of them are horrendous. most players would rather have fewer events with better writing then to have constant shit ones.

never told us that daily chats were ending in OG. we only know this was happening because someone send a ticket to the devs and it was then screenshotted and posted to twitter.

s*lmare has proved time and time again that they only care about whales. they’ve proved this by paywalling a lot of features in Nightbringer. and before anyone drops in with “but they give us more devil points in battles >:(“ shut up. haven’t you noticed the increase in need to spend devil points? whether for character outfits, sprite outfits level up sales (that they’ve made more frequent by making leveling up easier), ap sales, etc… they’ve only given you more DP so you’ll spend more DP.

they literally shoved an ad down our throats as many times as they could (in NB) by putting it on the HOME. SCREEN. as well as making it one of the first things you see when you boot up the app and in the side news thing. they didn’t do anything about it until fans complains relentlessly for WEEKS.

they took away the 10x free pulls for HDD 4 (which is OG’s birthday NOT Nightflop’s). they have always done the free pulls since the games inception. they did this so that fans are more likely to use they’re own vouchers or pay irl money for the cards they want.

they lowered nightmare drops EVEN LOWER to force players to draw more if they want certain cards (this goes back to putting players in a position to use irl money to buy devil points for nightmare summons if they want certain cards).

wanderers whereabouts and fabsnap are lazy and unnecessary and from what i understand, most people barely fool with it. the models are cheap and horrendous. (i get it’s a mobile game and the graphics are not going to be like PS5 level, but come on.)

they took away birthday events without an announcement. people were saving AP and demon vouchers for their favorite boys’ birthday events only to instead be given ONLY a birthday nightmare with a pity OF 200. they also stopped doing birthday events before asmo’s 2023 bday, leaving him as the only brother without a prince card. never mind the fact that they’ve paywalled birthday items in wonder’s whereabouts for $3.99 (usd).

they changed some devil grams (in OG) to please a loud minority of players that didn’t like having to kiss the brothers in the devilgrams. in a game about dating and kissing demons. they pandered to a small (but quite loud) minority of players BITCHING that they didn’t want to kiss the brothers. in a game about dating demons.

they’ve infantilized the game and lowered the age rating (to 12+) to make it more accessible to younger audiences which has significantly lowered the quality of the writing. this is a game about demons !! they are not child friendly and they don’t need to be written as such. a game about dating and romancing demons is a kids game now.

i want to express very sincerely that i absolutely adore obey me. i have for the past four years. (you should see my collection of luci merch LOL). it’s the first franchise i have devoted myself to so strongly. i just really hate s*lmare and how they keep getting greedier while offering NOTHING to fans but lukewarm content and constant money pandering. this franchise means a lot to me, and i know that rings true for most of the players, and it hurts to see it going down the drain like this considering it is so special to me. i love this community (except when people are crying over misinterpreting criticisms against s*lmare/devs as personal attacks) and i love what everybody creates. it’s all so so very special to me and it’s important that we all understand this. these games and franchise could be something so very special. it started out so different (in a good way!) than almost all other otomes i’ve played, but now it’s getting left in the dust because a multimillion dollar company is more worried about how to milk an extra $3.99 from they’re fans than they are making quality content that fans would be WILLING to pay for, instead of locking content behind paywalls.

i wish nightbringer was never a thing. the story they wanted to make could have easily when a 1-2 season arc in OG. but instead we were forced to essentially play the same game over again, just in a different setting and time, and pretty much be told that the time we’ve spent grinding and leveling up our cards and getting through all the battles was wasted. all for a new game that nickels and dimes players while offering shit in return.

solmare was proven that they have no intention of being transparent with fans. that they only want to milk whatever money they can from us. it’s created a lot of distrust and aversion in the community. and believe me, after all this, and even after obey me is run through and isn’t a cash cow for them anymore, i’ll never play another fucking solmare game ever again.

I feel like for the most part, the little D’s are just dumb little babies that can barely form a coherent thought..

Of course there’s some of them who have WAY more consciousness and brainpower than others, and then there’s the majority of them that are just silly lil babies who all share one third of a braincell 😭😭😭

But one thing that all of the Little D’s have in common is how they never fail to act like their “parents”

No.2’s will all come together and scheme plans to steal whatever catches their eyes (anything shiny)

And there’s no way in hell you’ll ever be able to pull No.5’s away from a Mirror or any form of makeup

Just like how all of the No.6’s will scurry like little ants to any source of food they see

Or how all of the No.7’s will pile on top of each other and sleep in one big pile!

And Diavolo would love them all so much, he’d give all of them individual names and he would treat them as if their his own flesh and blood, he’d even have monthly movie nights where all of them huddle up and watch a cheesy romance movie <33

I hate it when people say,"The brothers are demons." To defend the fact they're "red flags." That isn't their defence. They don't have one,they have a reason. That reason is:

They were angels who had their own problems, and when they fell,their sin overtook them. But they're not fully bad people. They're kind and care about people (not everyone, but they care about Mc)

The point is,it isn't as simple as people think. I myself haven't even covered the whole thing- I just wish people would analyse the lore once in a while and be respectful about opinions :(

I think about this and quite honestly I dont have the answer for this. I think we all know by now that Mc loves the brothers not just romantically but as a family as a whole. I personally think MC would choose the brothers through and through because in all honesty, their bond goes deeper than we can can fathom. They protect each other. Do without a doubt, I feel as if MC will choose the brothers if a war were to come....

Solomon who is so conflicted about MC's relationships with the demons, who COULD show MC the atrocities done by demonkind so they understand. But he won't. Not to spare MC's widdle feewings but because he doesn't know what he's gonna do if MC decides they do not care and sides with the demons anyways :)

Don’t get me wrong, I love the headcanon side of the obey me fandom, but y’all gotta stop making the gender-neutral readers act all “anime loli girl” and shit.

I’m not saying this because I’m a guy, but I’m pretty sure most gender-neutral readers in the fandom aren’t helpless, shy, easily embarrassed, overly expressive, insecure, or the damsel in distress.

I feel like we need to normalize that not everyone has the same personality in this fandom. And don’t even try making the excuse “but I don’t know how to write (insert personality)”. YOU WILL NEVER LEARN IF YOU NEVER TRY!!

But seriously, stop making the readers the stereotypical feminine “anime loli girl” and start including more personalities UNLESS they specifically ask for the previously mentioned personality.

Also, here’s another VERY unpopular opinion:

Not every character is a top. Let them switch or bottom. For fucks sake, don’t be the common, basic, bottom bitch and consider a more versatile and open mind when it comes to characters

Preach!! I genuinely hate it when people do that. It’s so annoying and frustrating. Mc is super strong and powerful. They almost destroyed all three worlds with how much power they have and people still view mc as weak????? That’s just plain stupid.

I hate it when Obey me fics make MC the enemy of the people, public enemy #1 for no reason. Every female in the general vicinity hates MC and is jealous of them being so close to the brothers. Succubi are the scum of the earth in the fics and all of them are sassy, mean, borderline psychopaths that need to sleep with the brothers so bad that they'll falcon punch MC before doing the cupid shuffle on their grave. This even happened to Thirteen when she first showed up in the game. Yeah we know the MC is still at risk of being attacked but they are basically a celebrity and most people respect or fear them.

MC canonically attracts demons and other mystical creatures. We need to stop acting like the MC knows nobody but the main cast and wakes up every day with glass bones and paper skin. It's genuinely getting old and it's getting on my nerves. Idk I think it might just be a me thing.

I'm so tired of people trying to convince me to like characters. I'll say I don't like Belphie because he killed us and get a bunch of comments like: "Oh well, he was going through alot of trauma and he apologized for manipulating and murdering us in cold blood!" Okay, and? Still murdered and manipulated us and then had the nerve to cuddle up on us right after like nothing happened.

I'm not saying you can't like a character and it's not childish to hold a grudge against a fictional character. Belphie was a villain in the story. Villains are made to be disliked, at least at first. Not to mention his redemption was rushed and halfed-assed.

Also I hate the argument that I should keep that same energy for Barbatos and Diavolo since they willingly sent us to our death or Levi, Beel, and Lucifer since they attempted to kill/harm us.

Guess what? I don't care. They are fictional. I can pick and choose who I want to like or not. It is not harming anybody to not liking a fictional, unfeeling character. A person doesn't lack of media literacy or have a misunderstanding of a character just because they don't like them. The sooner people understand that the less issues this already problematic fandom will have.
