So, on Wednesday I'm having my first ever university exam : Linear Algebra
Despite the fact that I've been ignoring this for more than a week, I suddenly feel very scared motivated to start my revision!
Let's see what 2 days of hard work can do
Not much I guess
writing tips: editing software
we all (or most of us) have some kind of editing ai software like grammarly, the google docs editor, etc. these are fantastic for catching things that slip through the cracks.
but.
they are not always the best. I know it's tempting to scour your documents until the little error counter hits 0, or the 'writing score' is top marks, but that isn't a great scale. ai (specifically grammarly) does a terrible job evaluating tone and artistic significance. it uses by-the-book programming that works for emails, but not so well fro creative writing.
this being said, don't just mindlessly clikc the 'accept' button for every suggestion. read the writing, consider what it's asking, and decide for yourself. if it's correcting grammar or suggesting a better sentence, think about why it needs fixing. don't rely entirely on the software. that doesn't build editing and revising skills.
being able to confidently edit and analyze your writing is a huge skill that a lot of new writers are losing because of software. not to say you shouldn't use it, but try to learn with it. if I write a sentence that grammarly doesn't like and it flags me, I'll read the sentence and try to figure out what's wrong with it. then, identify other sentences in my writing that have the same pattern and see if rewriting will help it be smoother.
this doesn't always happen. you might rewrite it and think 'yknow, i liked the original.' great! keep the original. It's your writing, not grammarly's.
xox love you, see you next time
The difference between Critique Partners and Beta Readers:
Critique Partners:Ā
Say:Ā āThese are all the things that subtract from the story youāre trying to tell and these are the ways I recommend fixing them if you want to reach your intended outcome.ā
Must: Understand your personal writing style and your vision for the book, be at a similar writing skill level as you, and be able to communicate well with you in a constructive back and forth dialogue.
You should have: About 3 at any given time, though the number will vary though your writing career.Ā
Your responsibilities: To respect their advice and give them the thorough, honest critique on their manuscripts in return.Ā
Beta Readers:
Say: āThis is what I understood while reading, this is why I came to that understanding, and this is what I think of it and how it made me feel.ā
Must: Be a reader in (or near) the manuscriptās target audience, have the ability and desire to think deeply about a piece of writing, and convey those thoughts in a way that the author can make sense of.
You should have: 7-15 at the end of any given beta reading round. (The longer the story, the more likely it is that beta readers will drop out due to time constraints, personal life problems, or sheer forgetfulness.)
Your responsibilities: To keep track of their progress and encourage them to continue reading, to look for patterns or contradictions in their responses and decide what needs to be changed in order to receive the reactions you want from the majority of your readers in the future, and to ignore any advice you donāt firmly believe will make your book better.

if you cannot own yourself who are you
nothing is ours; not really and not ever we are all made out of the same generic mold and predispositions claiming to have found a new way to be original in our fixed rigidity. our ideas are merely thoughts been thought over a dozen times in the last second, a thousand in a minute and millions in a day our minds are preposterous unthinkably so that at the mere mention of all this being thought, being done and said before we build a city of bones around us hiding in our closet made of skeletons how can we not realise we are the skeletons? we are nothing but skin and bones rotting in our unofficial homes and when we are afraid of the dark we are afraid of ourselves. of what we might be. that we may see we are never truly our own.
& EVERYTHING, EVERYTHING, nothing
a motorcycle heading west on a highway no shadows, no sounds, only bright headlights and flashing handlebars. who can look down a road & not think, some day this will all be gone? āØit is the night almost morning āØbetween today & tomorrow, the closest i can be to seeing the future. in the future i think i might be alright.
on an empty highway at midnight the future is spread out before us, fumbling sheet music sight-read every crack in the pavement a note, our engine hearts a heavy beat that rises through the air, i can feel it moving through this emptiness the spaces between my feet & the ground every ragged breath & i am singing at the top of my lungs
on a motorcycle heading west on an empty highway at midnight, the clock resets to 00:00 & the day is infinite, we are infinite, there is nothing left but us on a quiet road looking towards nothing and forever & the headlights will tell no one if we pull over to cry from the beauty of it glorious and merciful and bright.
this is the future where we end up alright.
alright I gotta revise this timeline due to new info
itās all the same except lodestar takes place in late fall (or winter) of 2013 since she just finished midterms. And flashback is early 2014 to late spring early summer 2014.
Thanks for presidentroarie for bringing this to my attention.
Side note: Shannon must feel pretty good about the fact that she left the elven school year ambiguous. And that she made it so elves canāt age, to confuse all us obsessive timeline creators.

23.05.2018 the colour beige happens to be a very tasty tone

Fractional distillation just really isnāt that hot a topic, but it must be a burning passion of the examiners. Thereās nothing to fuel my motivation.
Note: I just added a few new pictures to Khoes...
The second day of Anthesteria needed a few more ribbony, swinging-in-the-breeze images, I felt. Ā So I added them. Ā Take a look, if you're interested. Ā =)

"I'm gonna give you a little somethin' you can't take off."

This is what happens when I need to revise but I want to fool around with Adobe illustrator.

Editing & Revising Your Writing
While on the subject of beta readers, brought up by @hallelouise15ā, I would like to point out that it is good practice to edit/revise your own work in advance of hiring an editor. Some of it requires developing the eye and ear for mistakes and weaknesses, but much can also be solved by looking up how-tos and editing advice.
Here are some quick references to get you started:

Naturally, thereās a greater collection of editing links on the HEY, Writers! Pinterest account.
While itās smart for a writer to know some editing techniques, another set of eyes will always be needed. At some point, you will want your work to see the light of day and when it does youāll want it looking itās shiniest. Just write the best story you can write and hope the betas, editors, or online readers also give the best advice they can give to help you hone that story down to exactly what you wanted to say.
how do I revise for something to never have happened? like do I just say āthis never happenedā
anything that reminds you that it never happened. if repeating that affirmation continuously puts you in a state of mind where youāre like āyeah that never happened, moving onš ā or maybe imagining that it never happened, like a replacement scene instead. whatever you do to manifest something regularly, you can use to revise.
hiiii hope ur doing well, I want to revise where I went to college and got my degree and that means Iāll have new friends, etc. how would you affirm that?
hiii !! thank you and i am doing well!! for affirming to think FROM your desire, you would pick affs that sum up the thoughts youād have if youāre desire was already manifested in the 3d. so if you were in your desired college, with your desired degree and desired friends, what would you think?
would you think āi love going to this college, it has everything i need.ā āiāve always been going to this college, thereās never been a point in my life where i went somewhere else.ā
maybe āiāve successfully graduated with this degreeā āi remember working and studying for this degree and it feels amazing to actually have itā
or finally, āi love my friends, they are so good to meā āmy friends have always been here for me and iām so glad to have met them.ā
basically, think as if you have your desire or your past has already been revised, keep doing that whenever you think abt it, and then realize that while youāre saying this stuff ITS TRUE. please please try to get into the state of mind of this already having happened. once you affirm for it, or imagine it, itās done
you already went to your dream college and got your desired degree, you have an amazing friend group already here for you. confirm this for yourself in your mind and keep confirming it until youāre satisfied within (your mind) and then itāll confirm itself seamlessly outside (the 3d).
sincerely hoped this helped !! <3
