Quarantine is hard, like really hard. You don’t go outside, you have to actually bathe, and you fall back into old habits. So here’s a list of stuff to entertain you during quarantine.
#1. Clean your room/house.
If you’re going to be in your house all the time then why not actually make it pleasant to look at and live in. You can even move stuff, find old things, etc.
#2. Read/finish a book.
Reading is a way to learn new words and to hear a new story. It’s an adventure for the reader, so get immersed into a book. I’m currently reading Be more chill, and I found out it’s different (and maybe even better) than the musical. So go read the stories that are in your house.
#3. Finish/start a Netflix series , anime, cartoon, or movie series.
Although I haven’t done this yet, I have watched a movie I was holding off on watching (the emperors new groove). If you haven’t watched an entire series, then you can catch up on it in the meantime. Another thing to go with this is to watch a series you’ve never watched, but you know is popular.
That’s all I’ve got for you folks, I wish you all luck and have a nice summer!

Made some Gyoza! (Japanese dumplings) With some soy sauce to dip it in, of course.
I love trying to make food from different cultures! There are so many different flavors to discover!
Life doesn't have to be just work and sleep.
So get out there! Sieze the day! Carpe Diem!
This is your encouragement to try something new.
● Plant some flowers (I have a little succulent in a coffee mug. It's nice because it doesn't need water too often.)
● Get a kite from the dollar store and try to get it to actually fly
● Paint a sunset (P.s. It doesn't have to even look good!)
● Look at the stars
● Make a pool noodle lightsaber and have a battle with your friends
● Make a homemade slip-n-slide with a hose and garbage bags.
● Call a friend out of the blue
● Look for pretty rocks
● Try a new food (Crunchy bell peppers on deli sandwiches guys, I'm telling ya...😋)
● Just relax for a bit and read or listen to a good book (If you have a library card, download the app "Libby". It has tons of audio and digital books, depending on what your local library has cataloged in the system.)
● Dance like nobody's watching
● Look up interesting facts about your favorite animal (Bearded Dragons have a third "eye" on the back of their head. It senses light and shadow so they can detect if something is coming up behind them)
● Do a cartwheel
● Write a poem
● Do you have a favorite character in some sort of media? Write a funny situation they find themselves in
● Learn how to knit or crochet
● Make a friendship bracelet
● Or even...make Gyoza at 1:00 in the morning
Life is meant to be enjoyed! So find something new that makes you happy!
God Bless!

I've had this in mind ever since I saw this post and I drew the thumbnails in my sketchbook (badly) but then got the usual 'oh fuck this is far too much effort' thing and just stopped but I decided to draw them digitally today since I had a lot of other much more important and time sensitive tasks to do and then to make it take longer I actually put it all together lol.
I might fix it and make it all neat at another time when I need something to do while I procrastinate other time sensitive tasks but for now i'm happy with it.
This unique man-made environment is a great playground for all kinds of entertainment when the daytime tourists have gone.

Bewilder your Friends and Neighbors
Note: Don’t actually do any of these.
Modify a dog whiste to play multiple notes, then go into public areas with good acoustics like public restrooms or a large univeristy lecture hall and play the pennywhistle solo from Titanic on your Hypersonic Hell Flute ™ and find out who has above-average hearing!
Install a small speaker and some means to make it play things in the bottom of a fake plant and secret it into a public place, then play something appropriately confusing over it. Looping something odd is a good start, but don’t discount public radio, scientific podcasts or audiobook versions of dense academic texts- How weird would it be to find a James Bond Style Propaganda Plant that’s been subliminally broadcasting messages about lesser-known members of the sea slug family? That’s the kind of inexplicable shit people never get over.
Wear a dramatic mask everytime you leave the house to do something around your neighborhood, like watering your front garden, walking the dog, or getting your mail. engage with your neighbors normally. if asked about the mask say “Allergies”. See how long it takes them to acclimate!
You can buy giant bags of Tiny Plastic Horses online. Take a handful with you everytime you go to someone else’s house. Hide them around their house. The more Tiny Plastic Horses you can hide, the greater their confusion will be when they finally get around to spring cleaning.
Get in the habit of leaving something not normally kept in the fridge in the fridge, then wait for a houseguest to ask you you have say, a roll of toilet paper/the Kitchen Scissors/A Belt in the fridge. “To keep it cold.” fail to elaborate.
Work with your local high school robotics team to create a decently hefty all-terrain robot that responds to verbal commands and/or a romote you can hide in your pocket. Take it too the dog park. Tell people it’s a “lab mix”.
Use one of those abnormally large Gag-Gift pens or pencils for taking notes. Have a spare if asked to use something else. If you budget and purse allows, bring enough for the entire class/meeting!
Keep Human-sized Halloween Skeletons on your porch/balcony/whatever all year round. Move them around. Give them seasonally appropriate costumes. Enact an entire soap opera wherin the skeletons fall in love, are unfaithful, fall out of love, turn to crime, get caught, become reformed, return to apologise to thier love, find they’re bing unfaithful with thier former partner in crime, fly into a jealous rage, fake thier own demise, become a maksed vigilante, learn magic, Become a powerful sorcerer with the intent of cursing both of them, make a fautsian bargain, have it backfire… For your long-term neighbors, it will be tremendously amusing. For the new couple that just moved in a few streets over, coming across the scene in which your Skeletons are enacting the finale from Don Juan Triumphant in the middle of July will baffle them.
Learn to identify the trees in your area so you can casually grab and eat a leaf while on walks with your friends.
Pack a picnic lunch to work. Cute sandwiches cut into little triangles, fancy things on skewers, small dessert things, bottled beverage. Bring in small hamper, put it in the fridge. Unpack it- gingham cloth, little plate and forks, glass for beverage, small vase of flowers, and enjoy your lunch as though in some scenic contryside. The more elaborate the setup, the more enjoyable the theater of it all is, and the greater the emotional impact on your co-worker that brought cold spaghetti for lunch is.

MGTOW Hobbies: Dungeons and Dragons
Fairly cheap to get started.
D&D 5E is mechanically uncomplicated, especially if you play a Fighter or a Fighting class of character. Roll dice to get the highest number on the table, do some basic math, and then luxuriously vegetate until it's your turn to go again.
Locations for games may be fairly remote in some places, but you can clock the steps for your daily 10,000 and reward yourself with a pint if the game is held at a pub.
The need to socialize is zero to not at all. Snacks and beer will keep everyone's mouths occupied and no one asks for details unless they offer it first.
Female Interaction Quotient: 3/10.
Some women play D&D. Some women may even run D&D. However, such women are extremely rare, for one. For two, you won't really get a chance to interact with a woman any more than is necessary to run the session in the first place.
A reasonably competent Dungeon Master would also stop any 18 and above male-to-female interaction, so you won't even have to interact with a woman in the game. That is, if a lady's character is even female in the first place.
As a MGTOW hobby, I would give D&D a 7/10

Ok but like. What the fuck is there to do on the internet anymore?
Idk when I was younger, you could just go and go and find exciting new websites full of whatever cool things you wanted to explore. An overabundance of ways to occupy your time online.
Now, it's just... Social media. That's it. Social media and news sites. And I'm tired of social media and I'm tired of the news.
Am I just like completely inept at finding new things or has the internet just fallen apart that much with the problems of SEO and web 3.0 turning everything into a same-site prison?
There’s a website where you can learn ASL (American Sign Language) on your own, free and it’s a 31 Day program! The woman on there, her name is Rochelle Barlow, she runs the site and she actually is a homeschool teacher and teaches ASL. I am passing this on to some of you guys cause most of y’all on here is open-minded and curious and it is something important to learn.
I truly believe this site is helpful for some people who can not afford to going to ASL classes, or someone like me that just enjoys learning something new. This site will help with that. Once you sign up you will put in your email address and Rochelle sends you emails on tips on how to sign, gives you practice sheets, and gives you your weekly videos. And its all online. No need to paying for anything. (Unless if you want to she has something very different to this program)
IMO and yes, this site is really amazing and is important because you never know if someone who is deaf or HOH needs help, if you end up losing your hearing ability this is something you will at least have on the back of your head, and it is just like any other language and should be taught.
Different Strokes?
I think I left the teller at the bank genuinely disturbed when I told him that “If I can’t afford it, I just don’t buy it.” “What about a car? Do you drive a car?” he inquired, his voice toning on the edge of fear. I told him, “Yeah, I have a vehicle. I bought it used for under $3,000.” He looked physically pained. “What about if you want to buy some kind of new appliance? Or furniture?” he persisted. I stared at him blankly. “My couch was $5.00 at Goodwill. Like…I just buy shit cheap or I don’t buy it at all. The only thing in my life that I make payments on is my house, my bills, and my insurance, and that’s split five ways because I have housemates.” The young man looked horrified? Appalled? And somehow also awed? This guy couldn’t have been much older than me. But it seemed that he’d never even considered the option before of saving up for something to purchase it outright instead of using a credit card. Am I the only person in my general age group (just turned 26) who’s never owned a credit card, and who has forgone basic comforts in order to save up for items so you don’t owe money to anyone, like, ever?
Practical advice for if you want to start a podcast
I wrote a post for the RED team at La Trobe with some general advice for podcasting, but I’ve found there are some recurring questions that I get about setting up a podcast. This post is here to answer those questions.
If you’re not interested in starting a podcast, but want to listen to more linguistics podcasts, I’ve got a list for you!
I last updated this post in August 2020 - if you find this post a few years after this you might want to search for some more up to date specs. I’ll continue to update this from time to time as new questions (or answers) come up.
The length and format of your show are a product of your aims
I personally like shows in the 25-35 minute range. But, having said that, I love Shortwave, which regularly clocks in at 10 minutes, and I’m disappointed when an episode of You’re Wrong About is less than an hour.
Know your audience and the level of depth you want to explore a topic in. The frequency of episodes and the amount of time you have to prepare and edit will also affect how long episode end up. Record a few episodes first and share them with people you trust will give you good feedback.
The best interviews are conversations
Good interviews are just conversations that are intentionally lopsided, and good interviewers make the conversation feel like it’s not lopsided. Do your homework, write out some questions, and then take a step back and actually listen to the person you’re interviewing.
Anyone who has done even a few interviews has already faced most of the questions you first think of. There are some fixes for this: push through your initial brainstorming, think about the specific angles on their topic that are most relevant to your audience and (again) listen to what the person is telling you. Like many podcasting skills, good interviewing takes practice, and you can practice by staying curious about humans you interact with in any area of your life, not just your podcast guests.
Use the best mics you can, but don’t over-invest
You don’t have go and buy the fanciest tech. If you have access to a studio, great! If you don’t, then decide what your budget is. When we started Lingthusiasm, Gretchen recorded into her phone, because we were running the show on no budget and had no idea if we’d stick it out more than 6 months. When we started making money we got Gretchen a Zoom H4n to match mine. It’s still not the fanciest, but it’s rugged and adequate, especially if you make sure you’re in a closet with some blankets. Do I regret the earlier episodes of Lingthusiasm don’t sound amazing? Not as much as I would have regretted investing hundreds of dollars in a podcast that had 4 episodes.
Edit your show
Even a light edit will make the show easier for your audience to listen to, and show respect for the people you interview. I know people believe there’s an aesthetic of authenticity that comes with not editing, but all podcasting is a performance. Editing is a politeness to your audience.
I use audacity to edit
Audacity is free to use. It takes a little longer to learn than something like GarageBand, but once you know how to use it, you’ll be much faster at editing. I appreciate that it has stayed pretty much the same since I started using it almost 15 years ago.
Get your levels right
Once you’ve edited your show, making sure there aren’t too many loud laughs, or your two hosts aren’t unbalanced in loudness. You’ll also need to make sure your podcast isn’t too loud or soft compared to others in people’s list. You need to regularise it. A lot of podcasts regularise to -16 LUFS. A few other numbers bounce around (-14, -18), but this is what we use and no one complains. Audacity can’t do it. You can process a certain number of hours of audio for free each month using the web-based Auphonic. It’s great.
There’s lots of great free music to use
You want to look for music that has a license that’s free to use. Even if you don’t plan to make money from your podcast, make sure the license includes commercial use so you don’t limit your future options. SoundCloud and YouTube have lots of options, as does Kevin MacLeod - who has created royalty-free music in a massive range of genres.
Web hosting is different to getting your show on iTunes
We use SoundCloud to upload and share our audio. It’s fine. I have no complaints. Once you’ve uploaded a few hours of audio you’ll have to pay annually for a pro account. Anchor seems to be a good new competitor, it’s free - I assume they make money off people choosing to run ads on their podcasts. You then generate an RSS feed, which is the thing that points all the podcast players to the place you’ve uploaded your recording. You’ll then have to add your show to major podcast platforms (Apple Podcast, Google Podcast), smaller ones will pick it up from there.
It takes a few days for your show to get picked up on all the podfeeders
Launching a podcast is a bit of a mess - it will go live on your hosting site but then you’ll have to set yourself up with iTunes, Google Podcast etc. and that can take a few days to update and populate. The sites that are popular, and the process of linking into those spaces, changes often enough that you should just google advice when you’re ready to launch, and give yourself a few days. This is part of why some podcasts launch a short ‘episode 0′ or a trailer, it gets the show set up.
Transcripts should be one of the first things you fund
Not every podcast has the time or funds to make transcripts. I do think they’re important though; for people who can’t or don’t want to listen, for discoverability and for your own record when you can’t remember when you talked about a specific story. If you have any time or money and want to be taken seriously at all, this should be one of your earliest priorities. This is even more true for educational podcasts, where a transcript ensures all students can appreciate the content of your show.
You don’t neeeeed a website, but it’s handy
You can run a show using a hosting platform and some social media. Having a website does allow you to add more information about the show and yourself. The Lingthusiasm page has grown over the years as the show has; we made a page for our liveshow events, we provide a list of episodes by topic, information about our Discord community, and our marvelous wall of supporters. The website was much more minimal when we started, but compared to just having a SoundCloud it gave the show room to grow.
You probably want socials, but be selective
You need to make your podcast discoverable by people who are likely to be your audience. Social media is one way to do this, but it’s better to be actually engaging on fewer social platforms than overextend yourself. Focus on platforms that are the intersection of where your possible fans are likely to be and where you enjoy being.
Funding a podcast takes time, and takes work
There are three main revenue streams for podcasts: advertising, crowdfunding and merch. A fourth option is institutional support (through your university or business), but then you’re beholden to the funder. Whichever revenue options work for you, think about them and plan towards them early. Part of that is making sure your podcast gets in as many ears as possible. Most successful podcasts spend as much, if not more, time on marketing, audience engagement and business planning as they do podcasting (it’s just not very glamorous to admit that!).
Seasons are a great structure to keep a podcast manageable
Planning a season with a fixed number of episodes allows you to take some time off, to maybe change some things that weren’t working, or to step away from the project with a podcast that hasn’t been left hanging.

Life Tip #57
a sample list of things to do to feel a little more alive
buy brownie mix from the store. follow the directions on the back. when the brownies are almost cooked, dump an entire bag of mini marshmallows onto the top so that it forms a gooey layer. allow it to sit in the oven long enough for you to doubt whether it’ll actually be good or not. eat it. wonder why you’ve ever doubted yourself or the marshmallows.
go to the store. purchase a small packet of every single flavor of kool-aid available. pour them into a cup. mix in water. stir. create the ultimate kool-aid flavor. drink. ask yourself why you take advice from the internet. drink more. drink water to get rid of the taste. realize water now tastes like kool-aid. understand the consequences of your actions by enduring the week long torture of not having taste buds. only kool-aid.
paint a self-portrait with finger paints from the dollar store. do it on a tri-fold poster board. laugh at the shortcomings of the public education system. give yourself fangs because you’ve always wanted them. add a little party hat. you’re not sure what you’re celebrating but it feels nice to celebrate.

head out to the nearest park or field. scan for dog poop. lay down (preferably not in the dog poop). stare up at the sky. close your eyes because the sky becomes boring. imagine what color you would’ve made the sky if you could choose. open them. the sky’s still blue but it’s nice to pretend.
make a love potion. pour drinking water into a cup and realize you’re actually quite thirsty. drink the water. come to the conclusion that you should take care of yourself more often. fall in love with yourself.
