Ooh okay so I’ve been thinking, and hear me out. I know Spike has adapted and become pretty thoroughly modern and Punk Rock and all that, but never forget that, as a human, he was a Victorian gentleman. So, I like to imagine that every once in a while, he does these random little Victorian things, like sending Buffy a truly weird Christmas card like one of the above or wanting to tell a spooky Christmas Eve ghost story.
Granted, in life, proper little aspiring Romantic Poet* William said he didn’t like to discuss “dark, ugly business”^ such as the “rash of disappearances” that had been going around town (spoiler alert: the ones caused by the vampires that were soon to turn him, but I digress) so maybe that suggests he wasn’t the biggest fan of the Christmas Eve ghost story before his turning--although it’s also possible he simply wasn’t big on true crime (nor the people telling it, since they often made fun of his poetry) but he was still down for a spooky story enchantingly spun on a dark night by the fireplace; I know we don’t get a ton of pre-turn William--but either way, after becoming a vampire and thus becoming into Dark, Edgy Things, I’m convinced he would have loved a scary Christmas Eve ghost story, and I like to imagine he carried that forward with him even after getting into the Ramones and Nirvana and hair dye. And whatever Passions is; I should really look that up. Huh, I guess it’s basically just a soap opera. But in any case, we know the guy likes to tell a good spooky story, like that time when Dawn comes to visit him and he’s regaling her with his own gruesome exploits, so we know he has a talent for suspenseful tale-telling. Even after getting his soul back, I don’t think that storyteller aspect of him goes away (although he probably prefers fictional stories to his personal history now).
So, one year, Buffy gets a Christmas card with an illustration of Santa stuffing a kid into his sack or frogs falling on ice, and on the back there’s an invitation to Christmas Eve ghost stories in Spike’s crypt (does he move back into a crypt? I’m just into season 7 now and he’s living at Xander’s at the moment but I do still picture him in his crypt) and anyways I miiight have to write this fic now if I can get around to it. As much as I love punk rock Spike, I still want him to be a little Victorian sometimes :)
*I know he’s technically from after the Romantic Era proper--he was born shortly after it ended if you take Wikipedia’s end date of 1850 and consider that he was I think 26 when he was turned in 1880 (which is firmly in the Victorian era)--but I still feel like Romantic Poet is what he was aspiring to be.

P.S. Along these lines, I’ve also been thinking about whether Spike would go Christmas Caroling. I do very much doubt that soulless vampire Spike ever would, but I’m fairly confident that pre-turn William would do it happily; so, my question is, would now-reensouled Spike be willing to go caroling, or would he still be too Edgy? These are the real questions about Buffy’s soul lore we should be asking, haha.

Big news in the tumblr limerick-writers circle (ok, so it's not earth-shaking, but cool nonethless)
In case you aren't aware Waffle Meringue Productions is a blog run by two siblings with a passion for verse and slayers. They've been making waves with their summaries of every Buffy the Vampire Slayer episode in limerick form and have recently been featured on Adult Swim and io9.

Today: Buffy riding a unicorn.
This was another attempt from the big book of polymer mythical creatures. I used a wire armature for the first time, which meant I got to experience the joy of not realizing my proportions were off until 45 minutes worth of clay was stacked on top of it. Hence the awkward angle of the photo! He's really more giraffe than unicorn, as it turns out.

Buffy vs. The Gilmores
I have been thinking about the similarities between Gilmore Girls and Buffy the Vampire Slayer. While there are not that many, there are some striking ones that made me wonder. They didn't make me wonder very much, but nevertheless, wonder I did. Lets go through a list:
7 seasons?
check
mother and daughter with absentee father?
check - Lorelai & Rory, Joyce & Buffy
[note: pre-season 5 Buffy. Granted, the relationship between Buffy and her mom is very different than the one that Lorelai and Rory shared. Also, Christopher is more present than Buffy's dad, but the title still holds for the most part]
first three seasons about high school then off to college in the 4th?

drops out of college?
check - Buffy never returns, but Rory does
[side note: I never understood why Rory dropped out of Yale until I went to college and found myself seriously considering dropping out for a semester or so. I didn't, but I was this close]
sleeps with first boyfriend, which causes far more problems than it is worth?
check - Buffy sleeps with Angel, he loses his soul and almost brings about the apocalypse, after doing some other nasty stuff. Rory sleeps with Dean and they continue their affair. Even after his wife finds out.
[note: while Rory didn't sleep with Dean until season 4 after she had dated Jess he still remains her first boyfriend]
boyfriend with bad hair during season 4 and the beginning of season 5?
check - Riley, Dean: the bad hair is self-explanatory
said bad-haired boyfriend just seems to hold protagonist back?
check - Riley feels inadequate to Buffy and her Slayer strength/powers. Dean can see that his and Rory's lives are heading in two different directions.
season 5 ends with sadness?
check - Buffy dies. Rory gets arrested and ultimately drops out of Yale for a bit [note: Rory getting arrested is not as heartbreaking as Buffy dying. But I was upset still]
dark phase for protagonist during season 6?
check - Buffy, having been ripped out of heaven by her friends, goes into a dark depression because of being alive again and no longer at peace. Rory drops out of Yale, becomes estranged from Lorelai, and joins the DAR with Emily.
relationship that began as a hook up ends badly but ultimately leads to a stronger one in season 7 but the two still do not stay together?
check - Buffy begins sleeping with Spike in season 6 when she is depressed in order to feel something and finds he is the only one he can confide in. Is it because she hates him almost as much as she hates herself? Maybe. After she ends it he tries to rape her, she stops him. He goes to Africa to get back his soul and during season 7 the two form a trusting friendship and are truly there for each other. But then he burst into flames during the season finale, saving the world. Rory and Logan start hooking up casually because Logan feels like he is not boyfriend material. They soon do enter a relationship, but a fight about Jess gets them on a break/broken up and after reconciling Rory learning that Logan slept with three of his sister's friends did not go over well. Season 7 they are back together and, while there are some rough patches, they truly seem happy. But then Logan proposes and Rory says no.
protagonist breaks up with boy who is arguably her soul mate in season 3?
check - Angel leaves Sunnydale for Los Angeles, Jess runs away. While Angel being Buffy's soul mate is arguable, anyone who questions whether or not Rory and Jess were MFEO is completely insane. I will always have a soft spot for Angel, though I do enjoy Spike.

check - Angel ruffles Riley's feathers and in a particularly humorous exchange:

Angel shows up again in season 7 and some jealously arises between him and Spike. Jess shows up in season 6 to see Rory and Logan is a jerk to him. I don't remember if he ever confronts Dean in season 4.

rewatching buffy season one, and i’d truly forgotten how much i love season one angel? it’s like, they weren’t completely sure how they wanted him to be portrayed yet, so he was less broody, and he was wittier, and he hadn’t hit second puberty yet. before him and buffy got toxic, they were so. sweet? like. id completely forgotten that his chest is literally BRANDED with her crucifix at the end of angel and omg???? and i’m definitely a sucker for relationships that are doomed by the plot, so maybe i’m biased but s1 bangel my beloved omfg
