7x10 Speculations

So, today we got stills (x) and I have some theories. It’s going to be multiples theories at once, so buckle up.

First, I think the episode will pick on the same night when Athena’s house burns.

The dinner date – The aftermath of the Kim/Shannon situation

I think Buck’s night starts by him cooking dinner for his dinner date with Tommy. Tommy wouldn’t be here maybe because he’s still on shift. Then, he receives a phone call by Eddie who is losing his shit after the Kim/Shannon incident. Buck talks with Eddie who explains to him everything. Maybe Eddie will explain that Chris has locked himself in his room and both Kim and Marisol broke up with him. Then, the Diaz Parents are here. Why are they are? Same reason that Abuela was there for the wedding, YOLO. Maybe the Diaz parents are there to visits family, don’t forget that Tia Pepa also lives in LA. I think they invite themselves or Chris called them since he knew they were coming. But I think they invite themselves and they feel that something is fishy. Just after they arrive, Buck gets a phone call from Tommy and is happily leaving. Then the Diaz parents look at Eddie who has no one in his corner. Eddie explains the situation and even shows them the photo.

Buck then has his date with Tommy and everything seems to go well. Either during dinner or after, Buck gets a phone call telling him that Bobby and Athena are in the hospital. Tommy goes with him; Lou has been seen wearing the same clothes that he is during the dinner dates.

The Madney – Henren scene:

From interview, we have seen JLH wearing the same outfits that she’s wearing on the still and on that same interview, Aisha was wearing the same outfit that she’s wearing on the hospital stills. It seems to be a happy scene full of smile and sunshine. We know that’s not going to last. JLH had said either in interview or in a story that Chimney and Maddie will do something romantic for a couple. My guess is that after the Mara situation, Chim and Maddie invites the Wilson at their home and try to find a solution. There’s a theory that’s roaming around and I agree with that theory. I also think that the solution find would be Chimney and Maddie proposing to become Mara’s foster family until she gets permanently placed at the Wilson’s. Will they succeed on the episode? Not likely. The episode seem packed but I think they will be one step closer and that will set their storyline for S8. Then either Chim or Hen gets a phone call.

The hospital:

I think Chim and Hen would arrive alone and first. Upon seeing that neither Buck nor Eddie are there, I think they will call them and ask them to come. Then, the four of them are. Athena wakes up and asks for Bobby. Bobby is not doing well because well the guy is on a ventilator. So, not fun. Then the chief comes and informs them of Bobby’s retirement. Which is why they are shocked. I also think that Gerrard might replace them, we saw the actor on set. I have another theory so more on that later.

The day after: I think most of the episode will be spend during the morning after and I have multiple points.

The 118 will stay all night and the scene with Chief Simpson might be the day after.

All the 118 have a moment with Bobby. Eddie has one and will pray using the Bible gave him.

Hen might leave first, maybe to confront the congresswoman or to have a meeting with Dedra. She will then call Chim to explain the situation.

Buck and Eddie will go home and change. The next day, Eddie will have a talk with Christopher who will say that he’ll leave with his grandparents. Eddie will not take the news well and will have a talk with his dad. Since the previous season, Ramon became more and more supportive of Eddie so I think he will try to recomfort Eddie by telling that Christopher leaving for the summer might be a good thing. If one of the Diaz parents will attack Eddie, it would be Helena.

Before Chris leaves, Buck goes to say goodbye to Chris. Before leaving, Eddie and Chris will have a heart to heart and maybe Chris will tell that he’s mad at his dad and leave without forgiving him.

Athena will leave the hospital and goes to Amir. She feels that something else happen in the desert will find a photo that would prove that. She goes to Amir to asks for question. But then, the troubles come. I think that the Cartel are the one that burned Athena’s house. They have the resources. Also it won’t be the congresswoman; Bobby has no tied to her son’s death. Hen was in charge that night. Not Bobby. Bobby was away.

What about Gerrard?

The fact that he was bought from the flashback is interesting. The guy will for sure come back in S8. I think he will replace Bobby as captain. Gerrard is just one lucky son of a bitch.

Why wouldn’t it be one of the 118? Let me explain

We know for Chim that he doesn’t want to be captain. The guy had the job and prayed the Lord for Bobby to come back.

I think Eddie doesn’t want to be captain. He seems content in his position and might not want to be captain.

Buck is not ready to be Captain. Buck is the one that is more captain material. He was shown to have leadership skills. But he also lacks rigor and discipline. He would be a great captain, could even be better than Bobby. But now is too early and he still has a hot head temperament.

But then why not Hen? She was acting Captain twice while Bobby was gone, one in S6 when Bobby was in Florida because Athena’s dad had a heart-attack, once in S7 when Bobby was on a cruise. So, if Hen had been already been acting Captain twice, why not a third time? Two possibilities:

One. The chief refuses because of disciplinary reasons. She might got a medal because of the cruise ship situation. She still disobeyed orders. She might not be awarded because of that.

Two. The congresswoman. I don’t think we will see the last of her in S7. She is razor focus on ruining Hen’s life and she pulled out the Mara situation pretty easily. Who said that she doesn’t have another card in her hand?

I think people forget the damage blimps can and have done in the past. Like those fuckers are gonna cause huge damage, especially in a football stadium (or soccer stadium for all Americans). Like yeah they are ‘air’ but that doesn’t mean they aren’t dangerous.

So yeah a blimp disaster this season is gonna be major. Isolated, maybe. But still gonna do a lot of damage.

I’m not emotionally prepared for bobby and chimney to realise that another son/brother is trapped in a fire

ok, maybe I needed to be a little more clear on this.

I never claimed that chimney punching buck was justified or right. I actually never said maddie, buck, or chimney were ever "right" because that was not the point of my post at all.

I was highlighting how 911 is treating the ppd storyline and the real life implications it has. I didn't paint buck as some perfect person who can do no wrong and is trapped in some impossible situations. I didn't sit and make him the center of this storyline because he isn't. in that same vein of thought, I didn't center chimney's hurt and fear and place it above maddie's own suffering caused by her mental illness. I didn't blame chimney and buck for not "helping" maddie enough.

because that's a redundant point of view and completely misses my original point. being mentally ill is not an isolated experience. it may seem like it when we are caught in the throes of our own suffering when we're in it, but that's the nature of mental illnesses. mental illness impacts entire families, it impacts your loved ones because that's the nature of relationships. when people love and care about you, they accept the pain of seeing you hurt and suffering. maddie's ppd culminating in her leaving chimney and jee-yun and buck and all of their family showcases that idea on an almost nuclear level.

I'm someone who not only has suffered from mental illnesses but has also had many family members suffer the same. I'm grateful for the way 911 has explicitly decided to portray mental illnesses and their impacts on families because it is realistic and powerful without villainizing the mentally ill. you feel for buck and maddie and chimney without pitting them against each other or hating them. it's a storyline that's handled with care and thought, shaped by gentle, knowing hands.

that being said, I have to confess that when I made my post, I was mostly talking about the pre-blow up. before chimney confronted buck and left to search for maddie. but I'll go into a bit now, for the sake of completing my thoughts. I'm gonna "quote" some of the tags that were left on the original post. @elishareads said "#all of them are in the right #but all of them are also in the wrong", and that is exactly what I was pointing out. they aren't wrong because there was no way to be right. there was no right answer for all three of them.

was maddie leaving and isolating herself further while in such a vulnerable state the "right" choice? no, of course not. was buck attempting to help maddie and chimney by holding back information and "playing both sides" in a sense because he loves them both the "right" choice? no, it wasn't and ended up hurting chimney deeply. was chimney lashing out in pain and anger at buck for trying to respect his sister's wishes while also trying to support him by fighting with him and punching him the "right" decision? no, because violence solves nothing. not the pain you're feeling inside nor the source of their problems.

these characters we love aren't right, but that's because that was an impossible situation, to begin with. @evanbuckleyed tagged "#there was literally no way that situation wasn't going to end in disaster one way or another". they were destined to fail in terms of making some altruistic, perfect decisions.

that's why it's so heartbreaking as an audience to watch. we love these characters and want the best for them, but they're full-fledged characters with complicated and nuanced issues.

so yes, chimney shouldn't have hit buck. the blow-up between them was the culmination of the powder-keg situation they're in. even kin. In the middle of his crisis-induced breakdown, chimney was not in the right state of mind to make clear and reasonable decisions. chimney in any other context would never hit buck (or anyone else). but these aren't normal circumstances, this is a full-fledged crisis. moving forward, buck and chimney will have to come together to talk and work through their problems. they will need to forgive each other and rebuild their trust in one another. but their actions aren't irredeemable and that's an essential aspect of this storyline.

my own personal final addition to this monster of a response: if you watch this complicated, nuanced storyline focusing on mental illness and how that can cause strife and pain within families, and instead focus on condemning and villainizing an Asian man to defend a white man (no matter how beloved), then maybe you need to critically think about your own internal biases and motivations.

Day 7: Free Choice

Buck and Eddie’s baby is born prematurely, but he is as strong as his fathers and his brother.

chimney positivity weekend ❖ day two

Day 1:

“You’ve never looked more beautiful.” 

    Maddie & Chimney were exhausted and they looked the part of new parents. Both were dressed in sweatpants, Chimney hadn’t shaved in ten days so he had a little stubble growing and there was spit-up on Maddie’s shirt. She was trying to rock their new-born daughter to sleep, a little desperation in her voice as she knew she had only two hours left to prepare for the big 118 dinner that was being hosted at the station by Bobby & Athena in honor of their daughter’s birth. 

    “Come on, my sweet girl, you want to go to sleep for Mommy, don’t you?” Maddie had told Chimney to go take a shower, so that at least one of them started getting ready. The baby continued to look up at her mother with wide brown eyes that reminded her of her father’s, and her desperation softens into adoration for the little life that her and Chimney had created.

    Maddie looks down at herself and thinks that there’s no way that Chimney would ever be attracted to her in her current state. She thinks that she should be making more of an effort to be groomed while taking care of Amelia. Her hair’s a mess, there are dark circles under her eyes and she’s wearing old t-shirt and sweatpants. But she’s just so tired all of the time. He deserves better. 

    When Chimney emerges from the shower, he spots a sleeping baby in Maddie’s arms. He frowns when he sees tears in his girlfriend’s eyes. “Maddie, what’s wrong?” He asks softly, bending down in front of her and taking her hands into his own.

    “I’m a mess, Chimney. I should be handling this better. I haven’t been to work since a few weeks before Amelia’s birth, so I know it’s putting pressure on you. And we haven’t been close to each other for weeks. I mean, how can we when I look like this?”

    “Hey,” Chimney’s voice becomes stern, as it rarely does. “You’re not allowed to think that way, okay? You really think that I’m not attracted to you, Maddie? I’m more attracted to you than I’ve ever been. I think you’ve never looked more beautiful. You know why? Because motherhood has brought out this new sense of joy in you that I’ve never seen before. And that joy and happiness on your face makes you look like the most beautiful woman in the world. 

    Yes, we haven’t been intimate in a while. But that’s because we’re taking care of our little girl. Once we become more used to our new routine, I’m sure we’ll carve out some time for each other. Alone, doing things that we can’t in front of her. But don’t think I’m holding out because I’m not attracted to you because that’s the farthest thing from the truth.”

    Maddie blinks away her tears as she looks lovingly at the man who holds her heart. “I love you so much.”

    “I love you, Maddie. And I love our baby girl.”

DAY 2: “Are you really flirting with me right now?”

Maddie frowns and crosses her arms as she glares at the man lying in the hospital bed in front of her. “Are you serious right now, Howie? This is the second time in a week I’ve had to meet you here.”

At least Chimney has the sense to look sheepish, Buck thinks, as he silently observes his sister yelling at her boyfriend and the father of her child. “I’m sorry, okay? But it’s no big deal.”

“No big deal? Buck told me on the phone that you couldn’t move.”

Chimney turns his head to look at Buck, who immediately starts looking elsewhere to avoid his annoyed look. “Your brother exaggerates too much, okay? It’s just back spasms.”

“Okay, then you’re on bed rest for a week.”

“What? Maddie, I have to work.”

Maddie fixes him with a stern look on her face until Chimney has no choice but to relent. “Fine. For what it’s worth, you look even more gorgeous when you’re angry.”

Maddie tilts her head. “Are you really flirting with me right now?”

“Is it working?” Chimney wags his eyebrows, hoping to improve his girlfriend’s mood. Maddie thinks about it before a small smile crosses her face. 

“Sure.” She leans down to give him a kiss on the lips.

The tension diffused, Buck laughs. “Boy, my sister has you wrapped around her finger, doesn’t she, Chim? Bed rest for a whole week. I couldn’t do it.”

“Oh yeah, pal? Next time you get hurt, I’m gonna sick Protective Maddie on you.” Chimney gets a smirk. “Now that I’m going to be in bed all day anyway, maybe Nurse Maddie could really comfort me in the proper way.”

“And I’m outta here,” Buck says, not wanting to hear anymore of Chimney’s flirting. 

Chimney & Maddie laugh. “That’s a good way to get rid of him,” she says.
