Cronus was usually associated with different symbols, from the traditional scythe, sickle and grain, to more contemporary ones such as the hourglass or the clock since he's the titan of time.

However, I like him being depicted with a less common one: the ouroboros, or the snake that eats his own tail. The ouroboros is interpreted as a symbol of the cycle of life, death, rebirth etc. But the main reason why I prefer it in the first place is because the serpent eating his own tail implies the fact that he's desperate to survive, yet devouring himself ultimately leads to his own ending.

Cronus desperately ate his children in the hope that the prophecy won't come true in this way. Which ultimately led to Rhea hidding Zeus from him and, in the end, to his own dethronement.

It took me centuries to figure out that one of my favourite dynamics from fiction is the problematic father-daughter one, where the father is either a villain or a very morally grey figure and the daughter has mixed thoughts and feelings about it, but ultimately wants to be loved by him.

My Saturnian altar

I’ve been thinking a lot about antinomian praxes… the turning wheel of Apollo and Dionysus, the changing of Delphi at Anthesteria and Oskophoria.  I’ve been a devotee of Dionysus for almost 20 years now — really my entire adult life, and most of the last of my teens.  I’m wondering now about over-expression, over-compensation, over-identification.  Even Dionysus gave himself over to the world of his opposites from time to time, as an establishment of balance.

So I find myself thinking again, as I have various times in the last two troubled years, of making an altar to Saturn.

Not Apollo, for me, that’s just another ideal to escape into.  Music, intellect, civilization, law, order.  That was my childhood and youth, what I turned away from in embracing Dionysus that moonlit night in 1993.  Going back to the primal gardens of youth doesn’t help, that’s not how the mythology works.  No, it has to be Saturn.  My Shadow.  Everything I’ve turned from, shied from, fled from, argued against, raged against, denied.  It has to be embraced now, or the ecstasy of Dionysus is made thin, watery, feeble, inbred.

Saturnus.  Cronos.  Relentless time, each moment marching unstoppably on like invisible heartless soldiers.  Lead, and iron, and stone, hard and unyielding, heavy and dead.  Scythe and blade, cutting, separating, harvesting, calculating, merciless, ruthless.  The Conqueror, the Father, the Grandfather — authority, paternity, dominion, stern control.  Boundaries, limitations, definitions, obstacles.  Death, release, austerity, being deprived.  Pentacles, coins, money, contracted value, obligations, bondage, chains.  So much the opposite of Dionysus, all looseness and freedom and warmth, all softness and beauty and mercy of one kind or another.

I’ve always shunned what I saw as an over-concern with time.  Much the same with money, and status, and career, all Saturn elements.  I shrugged them off as materialistic, hard, cold, mean.  I’ve let my boundaries become too loose, too porous.  I’ve spent too much time lost in the fog of the senses, the now, the zen fool’s path of liberty.  I’ve gone too far over, stayed too long.

So my new Saturn altar will be low, close to the earth.  It will be draped in gold and gray and indigo.  It may have any or all of the following items: A clock.  A bird’s skull.  A metal chain.  A blade.  A stone slab.  A leaden Saturn symbol.  A dish of coins.  A sheaf of wheat.  A list of self-imposed disciplinary vows.  A pentacled disc that I’ve made, inscribed also with sigils of wealth, craft, success, focus, and cunning.  A small drum.  A metronome.

This is the beginning.  The seed of the start.  This is something I need, a tonic for the soul, for the life.  Dionysus has come to the underworld now, to the realms of the dead.  Now he sets himself to await new life, to be rekindled from his remnant heart.  While he waits, I must work.  I must work to prepare his way and his temple, for they are disheveled and in disrepair, left to nature by one who has relied too long on the Jovial luck of his father, one who has lost touch with the stern valuable labor of his grandfather.  This is a new journey, a road though dark shadowed lands, wherein I suspect I will lose my paunch, my padding, my roundness, and regain my leanness and hardness and edges once more.

Benefact me now, I ask, all you fathers and uncles and brothers and nephews and sons, all you ancient grandmothers and lost mothers and impassioned wives and wild daughters.  Grandfather, I come seeking you again, and I bear your sign.  I strive to make myself ready.

Babysitter and the baby

Diana aka Wonder Woman was trying to enjoy a night in lounging on her couch when she got a knock at the door. She got up holding in a sigh, hey even super awesome heroes deserve breaks. There was another knock what made her walk faster. She didn’t know who she was expecting to be on the other side of the door but it certainly wasn’t a teenage boy with a backpack.

“Hello? Can I help you?”

“Uh hi you’re Diana Prince right?”

“Yes that is I”

The teen just nodded again and turned his backpack around to his front. Diana waited patiently and watched as he rummaged through the bag until he pulled out a slightly crumpled piece of paper. It was a hand written note addressed to her.

It read:

Hello my dear Diana,

I wish to ask a favor of you that is deeply important to me. The boy who has shown up on your doorstep is your cousin, Daniel. He is in need of guidance and I find you are the best in the human world. I’m sure you understand why I can’t send him to Themyscira for further training. Please watch over him for I am unable to myself. I will fetch him when the time is right.

Yours truly,

Clockwork or better known to you: Kronos

When Diana finished the letter she looked at the boy, really looked at him. Something about him just wasn’t human. Something about him screamed other in a way she has only seen in gods. She doesn’t question the letter. She doesn’t feel the need to. Something about it just feels right and she can sense the truth from the words written.

If he is truly her cousin, someone directly related to Kronos of all beings, then he must he immensely powerful. Although his form does not say it. He looks like a strong gust of wind could push him over. Maybe that’s why he needs training.

“Hello my little warrior. Why don’t you come inside.” She motioned him and he followed. He nodded to her in thanks and moved with her to the dining table. “I do have one question: would Kronos intrust you with me?”

The boy-Daniel smiles at her and it had to many teeth and was too big but held to malice or harm so all she could do was smile back. “Pandora speaks highly of you.”

Oh what tales this boy must have.

Diana wants to know all of them.

Meeting the Clocky family

Kronos/Clockwork invited his family to his favorite son's birthday party.

Totally forgetting, he never told them he wasn't insane anymore and was doing much better.

Well, to be fair, Kronos just planned to invite Hestia and forget about the rest. Only she is a good girl, but once he wrote, she wrote back, thinking it was a trick.

So he allowed her to get the rest of them.

Danny: " So this is your family?"

Kronos;" Yeah. You ever read about the Titan of Time?"

Danny: " The one who ate... Oh, you really were crazy!"

Hestia:" It doesn't shock you that he eats us."

Danny:" And? He never tried to eat me."

Clockwork:" You barely have any meat."

Danny:" And a baby God has. "

Clockwork:" Yes. Believe me on that."

The seven children of Kronos and his wife weren't sure what to think.

Danny just blew a raspberry against Clockwork and joined the rest of Ghost for a talk.

HOO

Since the series has brought the PJO books back to life, I was suddenly struck that I needed to get this off my chest.

I read the HOO books years ago, after the PJO books as well, and I liked them. Unfortunately, there were many parts I disliked.

This post will probably infuriate so many people and I will be referencing to future books, but I'm not interested in angering you, I'm more interested in what your opinion is after reading mine.

Don't write hate comments and don't strart hating my opinion just because I don't have the same one as you.

Battle with Gaea:

This was the biggest let down.

The battle with Kronos was gorgeous. It was beautiful with a great build up and so many emotions. I adored that entire battle. It literally lives on an invincible throne in my head.

I had high hopes for the battle with Gaea, after all she is more powerful than Kronos, right? It must be harder to defeat her, right? She has to fall to storm or fire, right?

Wrong!

Piper, don't worry I like her character, has so much dam power in her charm speak that she can put a primordial goddess to sleep. Unfortunately, I explicitly remember the prophecy not even mentioning her.

"To storm or fire, the world must fall"

Then Leo and Jason were fire and storm, but I'm pretty sure that "Stormbringer" is Poseidon's title. I get that Percy isn't always meant to be the hero, but he learnt that lesson. He wasn't the hero in his own book series. He stepped back in the Mark of Athena so Annabeth could be the hero. He knew that he couldn't always be the hero, so why did Rick make his arc be he has to learnt he isn't always the hero?

To be honest, I think that if Rick had written it that Piper didn't lull the goddess to sleep, but the seven all fought together again, that would have been better. Imagine the seven all working together. Imagine Percy and Jason creating a storm together. Imagine Leo ending Gaea in one fiery end.

It is honestly such a shame that nothing can shine on this fight, not when it will always live in the shadow of an undefeatable throne.

Ships:

(Not exactly sorry for what I say)

Percabeth, although cute, is not a perfect ship. They are not the "It" couple and they most certainly not what I would look for in a relationship. I don't want a girlfriend/boyfriend who gives me a nickname that constantly downgrades my intelligence. I don't want a gf/bf who judo flips me onto hard gravel. I most certainly don't want a bf/gf that is scared of me. I don't hate Percabeth, but Percy and Annabeth deserve better. Percy deserves someone that he knows he can talk to about Gabe while Annabeth, even if Percy chose her and gave her love, first needs familial love before romantic love.

Jasper/Jiper, was so bad. Jason got with Piper out of duty and they did break up in the end, but Rick got them to get together in one book. Secondly, Piper is so possessive and obssessive. I don't hate either characters, I just feel that Leo x Jason would have been a much better ship because at least Leo doesn't have fake relationship memories. For Piper, I would give her a girl. First, they would complete the quest then Piper settles down with a girl, like Rick did in Trials of Apollo, which I'm really happy about.

Frazel is cute. I thought the ship was adorable, but once again it felt like Rick was focusing on ships too much. They've known each other for two-three months and are dating by the end of a week. Not how I would plan that. I once again think that them getting through the entire quest would have been much better.

Caleo, in my opinion, is the worst. Leo wanted romantic love to fill the void he felt due to his lack of familial love. Why the hell did Rick think that giving him a love interest was a good idea?! Leo felt like the seventh wheel so Rick should've fixed that by, like, making the other seven want him around. You know, like a family? As for Calypso, I believe she should have either joined the Hunt or she was an asexual lesbian. Either way, I believe she would want to experience the real world before trying a relationship.

Solangelo was, quite frankly, my least favourite. Look, I love Nico and Will. Both are cool characters with so much potential, but it once again felt rushed. It felt wrong that Rick had Nico get over Percy only to get with Will like a week later. Secondly, Will and Nico didn't fit like yin yang. I know you're all thinking "Hey! That's my ship you're sinking!", but you have to admit that Will saying that the loneliness Nico felt at camp was fake. Nico was literally avoided because of his dad. The hell you mean, Will? I believe, Will and Nico shouldn't have gotten together. Nico should have gotten with someone else while Will explored his bi-ness.

Friendships:

There were so many friendship potentials.

Percy and Leo 1. Percy's burn proof-ish 2. Sass 3. Literally both met Calypso so why did Leo hate Percy when he left for the same reason? 4. Should've talked it out and figured it out 5. Bonded over having excellent mothers

Nico and Percy 1. Rick you butchered this entire relationship 2. Percy did trust Nico and had this relationship that essentialy said "The only person who gets to kill Nico is me" and even then Percy wouldn't have killed Nico 3. Took a dam prophecy to save Nico 4. Saved each other's lives 5. Deal with shared trauma 6. Like, cousins? You gave Nico and Jason time, can you please give Percy and Nico some time. They deserve to talk things over and figure things out 7. Percy did what he could for Nico to stay at Camp 8. Percy's response to Nico's accidental trick was completely fair because would you trust the guy who said they would help you but (accidentally, which Percy didn't know) led you to a death trap? 9. Top two most powerful demigods 10. Literally my fav characters (until the Nico fanbase made Nico feel so overrated, still love him though)

Leo and Annabeth 1. Two badass geniuses 2. Two book smart people on a giant boat 3. Both searching for love (Annabeth was hurt by her family and Leo lost his) 4. ADHD madman and ADHD Annabeth "Stay up till 5AM to work" Chase 5. Where was the friendship between the smartypants?

There are more but these are my top 3 platonic relationships that Rick would have explored.

Thanks for reading! You can say your opinion, but no hate comments.

Fun fact about Greek mythology: in many versions of the story, Hestia, Hera and Demeter are actually the oldest of the six siblings (the other three being Hades, Poseidon, and Zeus). Zeus was the YOUNGEST of Rhea and Cronus’s children, but he was in the mortal world (not Cronus’s stomach) for the longest time so he is considered the oldest. All their ages basically got reversed because they had to go backwards age order to get out of Cronus.

So what is my point, you may ask?

In PJO, the prophecy says “a halfblood of the eldest gods shall reach sixteen against all odds.” By the logic shown above, this could be a child of Hestia, Hera, and Demeter as much as it could be a child of Zeus, Poseidon, or Hades.

So imagine if everyone was freaking out about Percy turning sixteen and then this Demeter kid stands up and kills Luke/Cronus. How shook the camp would be. Like, Demeter kids. Not at the bottom of the chain of respected godly parents, but low down. Defeats Cronus.

Kronos what are you doing here-??

Guys save me it’s gotten so bad that I giggle and hand flap and like gurgle whenever Kronos is mentioned-

ANYWAYS, uh as per what the brain worms are demanding,

Kronos What Are You Doing Here-??
Kronos What Are You Doing Here-??

Here are two sketches for a Luke and Kronos piece! Or- a Kronos piece let’s be honest, it’s gonna take me a while to render but it’ll be fine because he’s my guy-

*note; my phone doesn’t like saying Luke and will autocorrect it to Like so uh- yeah. Just in case there’s a like there and it doesn’t make too much sense- also sorry that the draft might be hard to like- vibe but I know what’s going on and it’ll hopefully make sense

Something something, uh. I get to talk about my Kronos design!! He has two things going on rn, those misty purple bits and then those darker purple bits (forgot the ones he has on the rest of his body- they’ll be in the final one)- so, as per my Tartarus Kronos design he’s still reforming, still falling apart he’s in chunks, his hairs probably in chunks so are his arms and everything- you get the idea. But this is my ‘I need the three kings to all have design relations’,

The darker purple that is not swirling mist is like- magic god Vigilito? Best way I could put it- it just. Okay uhhhh, Kleos interpretation and great Pjo hc lore, the titans and their human forms/the basic human ones that are not disguised inherently have not human aspects, if that makes sense. Kronos’s is his little patches that reflect the sky, this is for time- that you can watch the full sun and moon cycle through these patches, and to connect him with Ouranos. Along with that Zeus has something similar on his limbs though he’s usually full on human-human because he doesn’t like how it reminds him of his dad and stuff and like lore or whatever- also Space Kronos makes cool designs (not talking about Lore Olympus, I know they have a space type thing going on with him but I don’t read Lore Olympus and I only like spiting it)

Second are the foggy bits. That’s his like what are they called-? The true form light thingies. That, it’s those bits like seeping out of the human-esque form. The fog I assume moves in the direction of where the bit it as he reforms and like Kronos essence stuff, there’s some Ichor floating around there and space. He gets to have a moon eye and I really dig that.

There’s also probably little rhyme or reason for some of the design too. It boils down to ‘I thought it looked rad y’know?’ Uh, but Luke is there on the little Dias. I assume this illustration is during one of their dream talks. Probably one of the earlier ones, I’m also making the choice that Kronos is straining to have as much of himself not be in true melt-mortal-eye-form as possible, the dialogue that plays in me head for this is Kronos saying ‘Avert your eyes [cool thematic Ancient Greek nickname for Luke that totally won’t be Odysseus’s epithet that boils down to like ‘dude whose got a bunch of tall tales’]. Lest you die in your sleep.’ And then they like, vibe and talk and Luke is shielding his eyes but he’s not the focus here I just wanted to Render Kronos and do an actual full like- thing. :3

I’ll get the actual rendered piece and updates on how it’s going at some point, but good night!!

PJO! HEADCANON!! Percy x Luke

Ok so you can use this with both female! And male! Percy.

So you now like in a lot of fics Percy is described with black hair, sea green eyes and tanned skin, right? And that he/she looks a lot like his/her grandmother, Rhea, right?

But, what if Luke looked a lot like Kronos?! Like imagine, they ( this is how I picture Kronos, ok?) Both have blonde hair and tanned skin, the only difference was that Luke had blue eyes and Kronos had golden eyes and of course Luke's scar.

But what if at the Battle of Manhattan they both look exactly like Kronos and Rhea and Percy and Luke are just their love story ( of course a little different tho) retold!?

Hey everyone! I just wanted to give thanks to all those that liked or reblogged or just interacted with this post at all!

I also wanted to ask 2 questions:

1.) Should I write a fanfic based on this hc?

And

2.) Should I write more headcanons on this AU (and other AUs I have)? and maybe how their interactions would be with some of the gods?

Again, thank you all for the love on the post!
