Top 10 Favorite Young Justice Characters

10. Jaime Reyes/Blue Beetle

Starting off the list is Blue Beetle. Young Justice introduced me to him, and I was hooked. He’s probably the most mellow and calming voice. His arc and relationship with Bart (friendship or not) were my favorite aspects of S2. They bounced off each other in every scene. I was very disappointed when Jaime and Bart were sidelined so much, and hope S4 changes this (particularly with Bart).

Jaime in the number 10 spot since he doesn’t really have much of a memorable personality. Still love him to bits though.

        9. Will Harper/Red Arrow

Funny enough, I did not like Will. He was an asshole in S1; S2 kind of changed my mind about him but not enough since he didn’t appear as much. What really changed my mind was the episode “Private Security” (S3 Ep.4). I started looking back into Will’s storylines and, I have to admit, his is probably one of the best character development.

The first season had him unwillingly living a lie and betraying the people he cared for. In season 2 he was so consumed into finding the original Roy for five years, not even caring or focusing about his own life. I felt really bad for Will because he was probably going through an identity crisis and thought he couldn’t live his life without finding Arsenal. Probably felt guilty.

Seeing him living his own life and being happy with his daughter was so heartwarming. I smiled every time Will appeared in the latest season (totally ignoring the Will x Artemis fiasco), especially with Lian. I’m very proud of him.

I feel bad for putting him so low, yet I adore the next characters more.

 8. Garfield Logan/Beast Boy

I have been a massive Beast Boy fan since Teen Titans so you probably can imagine how excited to see him. His origin story was unique and his brother-sister bond with M’gann was very sweet. It was pretty weird seeing how much younger Gar was than Dick, but I got used to it. I was bummed that Gar wasn’t in S2 as much; however, S3 truly made up for it. 

After watching Beast Boy being a great leader in S5 of Teen Titans, I wanted a leader-like and more mature version of him. Young Justice truly delivered with Gar being the leader of the Outsiders. It’s nice to see him treated with respect rather than as a joke because that was my biggest gripe with Teen Titans. Though it was weird seeing him not crack a joke at all.

Gar’s story with his mom was heartbreaking to see. I literally cried seeing his reaction to revisiting his trauma in S2 and S3; I just wanted to hug and tell him how awesome he is. My only complaint with Gar in S3 was that the Outsiders weren’t established until near the end of the season.

His voice actor being Greg Cipes also gives him extra points (He’s a chill guy and radiates BB energy).

 7. Dick Grayson/Nightwing/ Robin I 

Sorry to all the hardcore Nightwing fans.

I love Dick (don’t get any ideas), but he doesn’t get enough development in the spotlight. One of the things I really wanted to see from him is his growth as a main leader, and his journey to becoming Nightwing. I was really bummed when these happened between the first two seasons.

To be honest, I don’t have as much to say about him other than straightforward qualities I enjoy about him.

1.His Voice (it’s so soothing)

2.His Personality (very charismatic)

3.Very Handsome (Probably in the top 3 my most handsome YJ Men list)

I put him higher than the others since he made a lot of contribution to the story and his new words (gotta love that aster!)

6. Megan Morse/M’gann M’orzz/Miss Martian 

If I made this list during S1, M’gann would have probably been in my top 3 (maybe even No. 1), but S2 didn’t give her any brownie points.

I really liked S1 Miss Martian because of her kind heart, awkward girl next door personality. Her trouble fitting in the beginning reminded me of when I was going through a time in high school; seeing her having trouble as well helped me feel not so lonely. M’gann powers were (still are) my favorite since I am a big fan of mind-like powers. I would feel so powerful. Watching her identity crisis(?) arc was great too. I’ve had trouble feeling comfortable in my own skin as well as my social anxiety (I’m a mess) and I could understand how scared Megan was of her friends’ thoughts on her true form. 

Oh boy. Season 2 basically ruined her. Learning what she would do to enemies was terrifying to see and left me wondering what happened to Miss Martian that made her step this far. What she almost did to Superboy was almost unforgivable. You do not try to manipulate with your boyfriend’s mind when you guys have an argument! Shame on you M’gann. If Superboy hadn’t forgiven you then I wouldn’t have either.

Good thing S3 somewhat redeemed her. Her kind heart was noticeable again and she refused to do that mind trick again (thank god). Very excited for the Superboy and Miss Martian wedding! Please creators, I beg of you to not skip over it. I want to cry my eyes out in happiness!

 5. Kaldur’ahm/Aquaman/Aqualad 

Now we’re in the top 5 with Aqualad (*ahem* Aquaman) starting it off.

Creating Kaldur was the best decision the creators ever did. I love him with all my heart!

He added diversity to the original team and was a great leader. S1 was not his breakout season, though the second season definitely was.

Kladur played the villain so well that he deserves an automatic Oscar. I never doubted that he was with the heroes, but he didn’t disappoint. My favorite part about Aqualad’s performance was when he rose from the ocean slowly like a cliché villain (he made it work), and the line he said right after he “killed” Artemis; it sent me chills. Love it! 

Pretty disappointed that he didn’t appear as much in S3. Very happy that he is a part of the LGBTQ+ community and is in a happy relationship. I’m a part of the community and loved that there was finally some representation in one of my favorite shows. Even so, I have to criticize how rushed and sidelined it was. I hope Kaldur and Wyynde’s relationship gets development.

 4. Kon-El/Conner Kent/Superboy

Like Will, I did not like Superboy at first. Mainly angry and volatile characters were never really my cup of tea. I do understand why he was upset and felt bad for him; I just handle anger the direct opposite as him. My love for Conner started growing around the end of S1. He was very sweet towards Miss Martian (bless him for not caring about her appearance) and his anger was in control.

Season 2 pretty much switched my opinions on him and M’gann. It was awful what M’gann almost did to him. That scene with him being so sad that what she did ruined that special bond they had almost made me cry. I wanted to give him a hug. He grew so much too since I don’t think he would have handled the whole M’gann drama as well in S1. A lot of furniture would’ve been broken.

I gotta admit something. I almost put Conner near the bottom (maybe no. 7). A comment in a poll in Amino changed my mind. I wrote a poll asking other fans who did they prefer SB or MM. At that point I said SB, though I didn’t think much of it. Someone (specifically yjfangirl) responded “Superboy has the best development in the show.” This had me thinking about how far SB has gone. In the beginning, Conner was an angry guy who felt alone and rejected by the person who he was meant to emulate. Now he is happier and living for himself rather than to be the next Superman. He’s getting married people! A little detail I noticed when rewatching S3 was Superboy mentioning to new characters that they weren’t obligated to be a hero because of their abilities. I adored this! The main reason why Superboy was created to be Superman if the original ever died, and another one of Luthor’s puppets. But he strayed from that pressuring path and is doing his own thing. Conner doesn’t want other people to feel like he did. What an absolute pure soul.

Also, yjfangirl, first I want to say Hi (*waves*)! Then say thanks for writing that comment. It made me really think about the bigger picture with SB and my love for him as grown exponentially. You probably didn’t mean to do that, but I still want to thank you. 😊

 3.Wally West/Kid Flash

We’re in the elites now.

I don’t know how to explain it, I just love Wally. He makes me laugh, and his character growth was great. At first, Wally was this cocky flirt who didn’t take the hero work as seriously. That changed in “Cold-hearted,” one of my favorite episodes in the series. This was when I really started seeing more of Wally than being this dumb flirt. It was great seeing him actually caring about helping people since I believed for a long time that he wanted to be a superhero to just have powers rather than actually protect others. The regret in his eyes when he thought his impulsive behavior killed Perdita helped me see who he really was- this somewhat arrogant speedster who had a kind heart. Episodes that can make me change my perspective on characters are truly special.

I was very upset that he wasn’t in S2 a lot. I understand why since he gave up the life, but I was still bummed. Seeing him being so loving and protective towards Artemis was amazing. Spitfire is my favorite ship and I will not give up on them. All I want is a happy ending! The penultimate episode of S3 was a hint that it will happen. Watching the S2 finale was heartbreaking, I cried watching him disappear, his love for Artemis being the last things he said. Artemis’ reaction did not(I just wanted to hug her). 

I have more to say, though I’m leaving it for another post. 😉

 2.Bart Allen/Kid Flash II/Impulse

Picking between Bart and Wally for second place was tough. Took me a while to decide; I’ll talk about it later on.

The moment Bart made his appearance, I absolutely adored him. He is amazing and I live for his hyper, fun attitude. His arc and relationship with Jaime were my favorite aspects of S2. What can I say, their chemistry is great to see.

That scene when he was meeting the Flash family was so adorable. His excitement was infectious and spoiling his dad and aunt’s births was hilarious! I watch it occasionally whenever I need a good laugh or reason to smile.

Unlike most time travelers- at least the ones I’ve seen- Bart was very involved with what was going on and befriended his biggest enemy- evil and weirdly huge future Blue Beetle. He was pretty careful about disclosing very important information and took things very seriously. You never know if disclosing everything was the thing that brought the world to chaos.

What I found interesting was his choice on how to interact with everyone. He seemed pretty gloomy in the future, but decided to portray this cheerful, devil-may-care attitude to be more likable. I understood (still kind of do). I had terrible mental health issues and I pretended to be happy in front of loved ones because I thought they wouldn’t care about me anymore. Bart got some brownie points for that.

I was dissatisfied when his role was greatly reduced. I wanted the creators to go further with Bart by revealing his past and how it affected him. He was pretty much comedy relief. You couldn’t imagine how disappointed I was, especially with it involving my second favorite character. Season 4 better change that.

I know that you shouldn’t assume a character’s sexuality, yet I really hope Bart is gay. There needs to be more clear representation and Bart can be one of them. I’m also a Bluepulse and Bartuado shipper (fine with either one as long as Bart’s bond with each of them stays strong).

Anyway, I mentioned that I would explain why I chose Bart for 2nd place over Wally. It mostly stems from wishful thinking. I really want S4 to have Bart as a main character since I believe the future will be strong plot point in the season. Development could surely happen such as Bart opening up more about what he went through. Let all those feelings go.

I’m going to write an article on my hopes for S4 when a release date is announced. Bart and Wally will most definitely be talked about.

1.Artemis Crock/Tigress/Artemis

That’s right people!

Artemis Crock, original member of the Team and daughter of villains!

She is such an inspiration to anyone who wants to go their own past without their parents’ support.

It’s hard to describe how much I love Artemis. She’s brave, strong-willed, and a kind person. It’s crazy how great of a person she is after all the terrible things that happened to her. I look up to her because I don’t have a healthy relationship with my parents (verbal and mental abuse) and there are times I don’t feel strong enough to stand on my own. I want to carry the amount of strength Artemis has as my own.

After all that happened in S2, it was amazing to see Artemis come back to the team and train the new generation. It must have been hard to walk away from a safe, comfortable life for a chaotic, dangerous life. I admire that in everyone, but I hold more respect for Artemis since “the life” “killed” Wally. I wanted to hug her so bad.

She’s also one of the kindest people in the show, the events in S3 being the best example. When Zatanna was crying about her dad, Artemis was there to comfort her. It was so sweet! Roy and her also took in Halo and Terra like they were a part of the family; the archer treated them like the best big sister. That rainstorm scene was heartwarming to the core.

Wouldn’t Artemis be an amazing mother? Lian and her have a strong bond like a mother and daughter; I loved it, and Lian is in good hands with Roy and Artemis. Though Jade deserves a chance to be a mother. Artemis also seemed to enjoy taking care of those kids in that S1 episode. Wally too. You guys know what I’m guys insinuating. 😉

Get ready for some fanfics on that someday.

My favorite Artemis-centered episode was the second to last episode of S3. I was waiting for this episode centering around Artemis missing Wally and learning to move on. It was great yet heartbreaking. Nothing bad happened. That Will and Artemis kiss never happened. Everyone makes a mistake. No matter how terrible it was.

Anyway, seeing Artemis and Wally living their lives and having a baby gave me life, even if it was fake. It was a vision of the future. I will believe this until there is confirmation that Wally will not come back.

Did anyone else cry when Artemis was so desperate to, but Wally wouldn’t let that happen (the real Wally would do that)? They are a great example of a healthy relationship with all the love and support they have for each other. I want that.

How would he react if like. He came back to life for realsies learned about Grant and had to deal with Roy already kinda being Grant’s dad?

Would any of his mixed emotions extend to his “replacement” or would it be 100 % “thanks for being one of the only adults to not make my kid’s life actively worse while I was dead” ?

All jokes and camp aside, I think Roy is more an uncle/big brother to Rose and Grant than a dad.

Very much there is a paternalistic dynamic- but that is not the same as being someone’s Dad, y’now? A lot of ppl’s stepdad ain’t their Dad.

My grandpa ain’t my Dad. My uncle half- raised me because I was the kid of a single mom and she trusted him enough to pay him like he was a daycare. HE ain’t my Dad, even if that relationship is no less profound.

This is what Roy will look like in my dc universe, and he'll be matching Brian O Connor.

He joins the Outlaws when Jason is living with him after killing the joker. Him and Jason go around the world taking jobs until their team is built up, and when he finds Cheshire. Roy and her go back to Lian and live together, thus him leaving the Outlaws like Brian did in the fast franchise

Young Justice S1 Ep23 part 1

So much happened in this episode.

First of all, is it just me who thinks that the spider villain dude at the beginning of the episode is like Spider-man? He's a literal copy of Spider-Man but a DC and evil version. Either way, his voice is so soothing. I couldn't help but fall in love with his voice. He showed up for 5 minutes and ate.

I loved how Wally started reassuring Artemis that she is a real archer and that she doesn't need to feel as though she isn't. Ahhh my heart can't take these 2. I srsly need them to get together ASAP.

When Cheshire showed up, I internally screamed cause I'm literally in love with her. Also I gasped so hard when she literally kissed Red Arrow. Like girl what?! But I loved it nonetheless cause it showed that whole evil x hero but like the one sided version where the villain likes the hero but the hero doesn't even tho deep down they know they do but won't admit it. Yeah it's a stretch cause I know Roy doesnt like her but there is definitely TENSION between them. Chesire took her chance and kissed him. Tbh idk who id wanna be. Roy or Cheshire? IDK!

I love how these 2 keep pissing each other off and hating on each other. They give me sibling vibes.

Nah when Zatanna gave the robot dude pants and said he needed pants I died 😭. So did that mean his robot dick was on display 🤔, probably.

I loved how Kid Flash was defending Artemis. Everything was going so well until stupid ass Roy had to say that she gave them the wrong tracker to track. Like fuck u Roy.

Young Justice S1 Ep23 Part 2

The way Kid Flash started getting mad at her, I felt so bad for her cause she must've had her reasons man and she did. I get where Kid Flash is coming from but bro u don't know the whole story.

He really hurt her man. He hurt me 😭. Y'd he have to say that?

"Well, nice going. What you proved is that you're insecure and selfish."

God damn. That hurt like a bullet.

Then he threw the sai saying that the real souvenir is that tracking piece cause Artemis tricked them like boy u didn't 💔.

I forgot what Roy said but whatever he said, screw him. I like him but him constantly believing that Artemis is the mole is annoying me.

I gasped when I found out that Sportsmaster is her father. It all makes sense now. Y Artemis was always mad at Cheshire. Because she's working with their dad. So technically her whole family r criminals except for the mom now but before she was. Nah but I'm scared she's gonna go against Young Justice since she already feels so insecure about herself and her dad said smth like "they'll let u go once Red Arrow is on the team." Like giiiirl no they won't.

Young Justice S1 Ep25 Part 2

The fact that Connor said that he knew about Megan's true form since he was in her mind had me. Like no way u knew about this and waited for her to tell u and the team in person. But that's true love tho. I'm jealous.

OMG I screamed when Red Arrow placed that weird thingy on Batman. That's when I realized he was the mole. But I felt so betrayed. Like how was he the mole?

Naaah but then an even bigger plot twist happened. HE DIDN'T FUCKING KNOW HE WAS THE MOLE! LIKE HOW TF DID HE NOT KNOW?! Nah but his facial expressions made me feel bad for him cause he genuinely seemed sad and confused once he realized.

Young Justice S1 Ep26

I loved this episode. I actually loved the whole plot of the episode.

I felt so bad for Red Arrow cause he was up against the Justice League solo. Like somebody help my boy pls.

When Black Canary, Tornado and Red Arrow were pretending they were under their control and then started attacking the bad guys, I internally screamed cause it was so cool.

And the New Year kiss scene was everything. When I say I literally screamed, I screamed when Wally picked Artemis up. It was so fucking smooth. Ahhh I melted. About damn time they kissed.

Tbh Megan and Connor kissing is a daily thing tbh. That doesn't mean I don't like them but I've been waiting for Wartemis. Or is it Arteally? Idk what their ship name is but I love them.

And I loved how Zatanna pulled Robin in the kiss. So cute. And the way he wrapped his arms around her waist 😩. They need to get married. Same with Wally and Artemis.

I'm so sad Roy is a Cadmus clone. I mean it's not that bad cause Connor is as well but Connor knew from the beginning. Roy didn't. The fact that he found out waaay later kills me cause I felt so betrayed that he's a clone. And I'm so scared.for the actual Roy. Like what happened to him. Nah but the way Roy feels like he doesn't know who is hurts man.

And Arrow seems so hurt finding out that this Roy wasn't the actual and is a clone. I think he's scared and worried about the actual Roy. Like look at his face. He feels guilty that he didn't realize this Roy wasn't the real one and is anxious about the actual Roy. Ahh my heart can't take this.

When they showed us the actual Roy in the tube thingy with half of his arm., I got tears cause whatever he and to go through must've hurt. I need them to save him.

So that's the season finale for season 1 and I gotta say, it was amazing. I can't wait to watch the next season.

Young Justice S2 Ep4 Part 1

I loved how we finally were shown Roy and what happened to him during the 5 years.

Nah cause when I saw him, I screamed but then I also got worried cause his legs were skinny and he looked well like shit.

Ngl him falling was embarrassing.

The fact that Arrow saw as well has me dying but obviously this is a serious scene.

I loved how everyone came to help him get back on the right path. They don't want him to suffer anymore.

But you know what I do love about him, is the fact that he can't move on from trying to find the real Roy. Obviously, he's looking for him cause he feels bad for taking his life technically but he also wants to save him from wherever he is. I like how dedicated he is but I feel bad because he can't move on like the others. But I know the real Roy is alive, he has to be so it's good he hasn't given up. However, I also want him to make himself a new name. Start fresh so he can stop hurting.

Black Canary is actually so fine. Marry me 😩.

The way she pulled him ahhhh Oliver, stay away from my wife.

When Chesire showed up I gasped but the way Roy barely reacted as if she wasn't a threat had me thinking....

THEY WERE TOGETHER. I TOLD U GUYS. I SAID THAT THEY HAVE CHEMISTRY AND I CAN SEE IT GROWING. THE ENEMIES TO LOVERS TROPE HAPPENED. AHHHH IM SO SMART. BUT NAH I'M SO HAPPY I WAS RIGHT BUT ALSO THE FACT THE HE FOUND SOMEONE. AND HE HAS A DAUGHTER?! THE WAY I KEPT GETTING SHOCKED.

Yay now he'll go back to normal. I need him to shave. Srsly, I can't stand him not shaved and I need him to fix his legs. Go to the gym Roy, get those leg days in.

When Bart showed up I literally thought he was Wally but a future version like maybe his child or smth but then it was Barry's grandson.

Also, is Bart actually like Bart? Is he actually Barry's grandson from the future because we kept being shown him in the future with Neutron saying "time to act". So the future is actually destroyed in 40 years and he came back in time to change things but now is stuck. But srsly is he bad or good? Idk.

Nightwing is so big I want him. He can tackle me down any day.

When Roy found the actual Roy I felt so relieved and happy. Like yes he finally won't feel guilty for being Roy himself.

Young Justice S2 Ep8

Tbh I get Roy because how did Oliver not know that the Roy he found after 3 months was not the actual Roy? But I also understand y Oliver didn't realize because he was worried about Roy to the extent that he was just relieved and content when "Roy" showed up and didn't bother to think it's weird.

Ngl I feel like Oliver in Arrow CW would have known if the clone Roy was fake cause Oliver in the TV show is really serious compared to Oliver in the cartoons. But that doesn't mean I don't like both Oliver's. I actually love both of them cause they're both different.

I'm happy that Connor found someone else. I mean yeah they rnt dating or anything but I just want Connor to be happy. I don't want him to suffer anymore. Megan put him through a lot and won't even acknowledge it. Also, idk y but they give me Superman x Lois vibes. I have no idea y but they do.

NOW I'M ACTUALLY LOST. IS ROBIN DEAD?! AND THE ROBIN WE HAVE NOW IS JUST ANOTHER RANDOM KID BATMAN ADOPTED? I'm actually so lost. No matter how many times I read ur guys's explanation I still get lost cause u guys keep saying Batman adopted 3 kids: Dick Grayson/Nightwing, Tim/Robin & Jason Todd/Red Hood (I think) but then y did they change Robin's name from S1 (Dick Grayson) to Tim in S2? Also, Idk if I'm right and what u guys r saying is what I will say rn but I think the Dick Grayson/Nightwing in S2 rn was Robin in S1 because he said smth like he and Zatanna had a thing in the last episode and literally in S1 Robin and Zatanna were flirting together and kissed in the second last episode. So technically, whenever Batman adopts kids, they always end up training as Robin and then grow up into whatever superhero they want to right? Because the Robin in S2 looks younger then Zatanna and Zatanna and Robin were a thing in S1 and the only explanation is that Dick Grayson/Nightwing was Robin from S1 cause no way that new baby Robin is the same age as Zatanna now.

Overprotective Part Four (Jason Todd Fanfic)

Note: Lots of more people in this one. Ruby is seventeen.

It was a mission that her father had forbidden her from going on, but it was a demand she chose to ignore. Teenage rebellion, she supposed with a smirk. As wisps of auburn hair whirled around her face in the cool, salty wind, her eyes tracked the moving criminals. The lead that she had read on her Uncle Tim’s computer told her that the thugs she was watching were working for Two-Face, a villain she particularly despised. When she heard the activity going on in Old Gotham, she proposed going out to fix the problem herself, to which her father and Damian both dismissed her proposition, instead instructing her to stay at home. Ruby chose to simply ignore both their commands.

Grappling from edge to edge of buildings, Ruby stayed on the heels of the thugs. They drove two vans and one truck, with ten men in total. Dent wasn’t even in attendance. Ruby couldn’t think of an easier mission then this as she ran across the edge of the clock tower. She wasn’t sure what she was going to say to her father when she returned home from the mission with new leads, and the thugs suddenly off the radar, but she had no time to ponder such things. She noted that the vehicles were headed to Brown Bridge- out of Gotham. She had to stop them before they left the city.

Reaching to the left side of her utility belt, she pulled out a gadget she had seen her Uncle Damian use when the two worked together. She loaded it three times and took aim at the truck. The plate that she had loaded it with magnetized to the hood of the truck, and with a flash of yellow light, it had drained the car’s battery. She aimed at one van and did the same until all three cars were stopped. Slowly, and with a commotion, men began to unloaded from the cars. Now was her chance.

Damian had always taught her to start at the back of the group and pick the ones not paying attention off first. Once the others take notice of the disappearing teammates, grapple back up to a building, and take as many as you can out with batarangs or a taser, which her father had granted her use of. As she worked through the steps, picking men off one by one, she let out a laugh.

“Oh shit,” one man exclaimed, “it’s Robin.” Ruby laughed again, prideful, and eager to show off to her family about the work she had completed. Taking the last three men out by hand was hard, Ruby was still quite small. She took a few hits and kicks, but she learned quickly to shake it off and keep fighting. Eventually, she had taken all the thugs out, standing in the middle of unconscious bodies while panting heavily. What was so hard about that, Dad? If only he could have seen her, maybe he would have been proud. Ruby knew that he was more than likely going to bench her for sneaking out, and if he didn’t, Damian would.

Once she had her breathing back under control, she began to unlatch the door on the first van. Slamming the doors open, she peered in to see an empty car, with no equipment. Ruby shrugged, moving on to the next car. The second van also had no equipment or anything of importance stored in it. Ruby raised an eyebrow. Strange, she thought, everything was in the truck? Approaching the truck she pulled up her hood and situated her gadget back into her belt. Unlatching the back of the truck with a loud clanking sound, the door was shoved open from the inside.

Ruby felt the air knocked out of her lungs as she was kicked back, landing on the hard ground with a thud. Struggling to breathe for a moment, she peered up, adjusting her domino mask. Ruby had been sure he wasn’t there when she read over the leads or counted the thugs when she first arrived at the scene, but as Dent stared down at her with crazed eyes, she realized how wrong she was. She wasn’t prepared to fight Two-Face by herself, or the two abnormally large thugs that stepped out of the truck after him.

“I was wondering if you were going to catch us before we got to the border,” Harvey spoke, his voice gravelly. Ruby groaned, rolling her head back.

“Y’know, for an old man, you got a mean kick,” she said, thumping a hand against her chest. She kept her eyes on him as she stood back up. “But is that still the best you can do?” She was aware that she was pushing buttons when she wasn’t supposed to be- this wasn’t a fight for her. She’d be lucky if she walked out alive. Two-Face shook his head, reaching behind the tail of his jacket to pull out his silver and black gun. The two thugs held large guns themselves, Ruby wasn’t sure what kind, but she knew that one gun could take her out with one bullet.

Two-Face let out a sigh, beginning to load the gun. Ruby scanned over him, his black coat was the same one he had been wearing since he first began his crusade as a notorious Gotham maniac. His hair had gone gray on the normal side of his body, but the hair on the burnt and mangled side remained stark white. It was an odd contrast. Harvey loaded the gun, moving towards Ruby, stopping in front of her stomping his foot slightly and clicking his tongue. He reached a long finger into his pocket and pulled out the coin Ruby was unfortunately familiar with.

“Last time we met, the odds were in your favor, and you got away,” he remarked. The ‘last time’ Ruby had been with Red Arrow, her best friend Lian, and they narrowly escaped without a bullet in each of their bodies. The main difference this time was that Ruby was alone, and how often are the odds twice in your favor? “Maybe I can catch a Robin by her toe this time,” Dent said. Ruby scoffed, though she felt her heart begin to pound. She had taken her tracker off before she had left, as to not be followed, but that meant there was no longer communication between her and the other Bats. Dent clicked the gun once and held it up at eye level to Ruby. “Heads, I kill you. Tails, you get to leave. Deal?”

Ruby was about to respond but bit her tongue as a mass of shadow slid down behind the two thugs, effectively taking them out in silence, going unnoticed by the man who still held the gun to Robin’s head. Elegantly, Dent flipped the coin into the air but was rather quickly distracted by the massive hand the grabbed the barrel of the gun, bending the metal with ease. The clink of the coin on the pavement snapped Ruby out of shock, and she ducked out of the way, retreating into the shadows as she watched Dent be taken down with ease by Bizarro.

Ruby sank further into the shadows, an attempt to disappear, but was taken off guard when a hand firmly grabbed her shoulder yanking her back out into the light. Red hair that cascaded down past her broad shoulders was the first thing that Ruby saw. Then the angry face of her mother. Artemis, though not Ruby’s birth mother, had taken up the title of mom when Ruby was just a little girl. The Amazon had been hesitant at first, but her love for Jason, and eventually Ruby, was stronger than the feeling of fear. And Amazons laugh at the face of fear. Ruby haunched back a bit.

“What are you doing?”  Artemis was practically seething in anger. Her green eyes, which were usually gentle when directed at Ruby, were hard and concerned. If her mother was this angry, then Ruby could only guess how angry her father was.

“Red Him angry at Baby Red,” Bizarro chimed in, his voice booming from where he stood over the thugs, and a chained Two-Face. “Very angry,” he added for emphasis. Ruby flinched, the pride she felt having washed away almost completely and replaced by regret.

Artemis grabbed her daughter by the hood of her costume, beginning to walk her to the car, wherein, Ruby was crammed against Bizarro. Artemis sped home, Two-Face had been tossed in the trunk. A quick stop to Arkham Asylum and Dent was no longer the problem at hand for Ruby- it was facing her father’s wrath. Ruby slowly slumped down into her seat as her mother ranted from the driver's seat. When they arrived home, the teen nearly refused to exit the car and enter the home. Regret had completely swallowed up her pride by the time she was slinking through the doorway of the apartment, and into the living room where Jason lounged on the couch.

“Two-Face is in Arkham now,” Artemis informed her husband, to which he nodded in response. There was a moment of complete silence in which Ruby waited for her father to say something to her, and in that time, her mother had disappeared from the room leaving the two alone. Ruby remained in the doorway until Jason motioned her over to the couch. Hesitantly, Ruby moved to sit beside him. Lowering her hood and removing her mask she waited for him to speak first, which took a painful amount of time. She knew that he was waiting on purpose- he wanted her to feel guilty, and that she did. It was his form of punishment, she supposed. It was working.

Jason ran a hand over his face, scratching at the stubble on his cheeks and jaw. His hair was standing up in all directions- he had been pulling at it more than likely, as he did when he was anxious or frustrated.

“I have been trying to think about what to say to you since I realized you had snuck off,” Jason began, his voice hard and annoyed. “But, I don’t know exactly what to say to make you realize why what you did was...wrong,” he paused again, Ruby said nothing. “So, I figured now is a good time to tell you something I have been needing to share with you. I wanted to tell you the day you became Robin, but I didn’t know if that would have done anything to sway your decision. I didn’t want to scare you, I guess,” his voice remained stiff, but there was more emotion than just annoyance as he continued.

“What?” Ruby asked, a little shocked that he wasn’t yelling at her. His reaction was far from the one she was expecting the ride home.

“When I was two years younger then you are now- fifteen- I was Robin. I had been Robin at that point for a few years, so I thought I knew what I was doing, I was far too confident and arrogant. Prideful. I didn’t listen to adults- Bruce, Alfred, Dick. Whatever, I just thought I knew better than them. I was the all-powerful Robin, nothing could hurt me, right?” Jason, once again, ran a hand over his face, his eyes focused on the ground. “I got over-confident one day and thought I could take something into my own hands, no help from anybody else. Just me. I ran off, like you did, and took on something I couldn’t handle. It turned out to be something that I wasn’t equipped to deal with on my own, someone I couldn’t deal with on my own.”

“Who?” Ruby questioned softly, her eyes staring intently at her father. Jason huffed.

“It doesn’t matter now, Ruby. But-” Jason seemed to struggle for words, something that Ruby wasn’t used to seeing. Jason was fairly well-spoken. “I died.” The room went deafeningly quiet. Ruby questioned if she heard him correctly. How could he have died? He was right in front of her, breathing, and had a beating heart. Had he gone mad since she left? “I had been killed by a bad guy. I was dead for months before Talia Al Ghul tossed me in the Lazarus Pit, and brought me back. I went through hell because I got too cocky, Ruby. My life was altered completely because I didn’t listen.”

Ruby said nothing, as she did not know what to say in response to what her father was telling her. How could that possibly be true? But why would he make up a lie like that? Ruby shook her head, mimicking Jason’s actions of running a hand over her face, and through her hair.

“A-are you making this up? Cause this sounds pretty made up. You died? That isn’t possible!” Ruby stood from the couch, adding a certain emphasis to her words. Jason watched her patiently. He couldn’t even count how many times he has told someone about his death, but none were so imminent as telling his child. Jason bit the side of his middle finger.

“I wish I was making it up Rue, but I am not. So you can imagine why I am telling you this.” Truthfully, and horrifyingly, it did not seem to Ruby that he was lying. She had so many questions if it was true. “Ruby, I can’t let anything like what happened to me, happen to you. But when you do stuff like this, that becomes hard, and frankly, it gives me a heart attack,” he chuckled breathlessly at the last part. He wasn’t laughing, he was nervous. Ruby opened and closed her mouth several times, trying to think of what to say, or how to phrase it.

“But y-you’re here? How? I don’t-” she struggled, her voice fading out and words trailing off. Jason’s mouth was pulled in a tight line, something he did when he was bothered by something.

“It doesn’t matter that I came back, it matters that I died in the first place. Me coming back was a one in a million chance, not everyone gets so lucky,” Jason said, standing up from the couch himself. “I am telling you this so you don’t make the same mistake I did.”

“You have to tell me more than what you are! Who ki-...who did it?” Ruby found herself not being comfortable saying ‘killed’ out loud.

“Ruby,” Jason started.

“Why won’t you tell me?” she hissed. Jason rolled his head back in annoyance. He knew how she would react to his answer- he never planned on getting that specific, but he also didn’t plan on raising such a stubborn daughter. He couldn’t withhold that information, he felt as if he was lying to her, and he didn’t want to do that. As he paused, his grey eyes searching her shockingly blue ones, he felt a rise in his anxiety. Once he told her, she’d stop at nothing to get justice for him. She was overprotective of him like that. Jason crossed his arms with a huff.

“Because, if I tell you, you’ll only put yourself in more danger for me,” he reasoned. She barked out a forced laugh.

“Tell me, or I will find out myself,” she demanded. She knew she had no right to demand things from him, especially after her previous actions, but she needed to know. This wasn’t something she could so easily brush off and forget about. Jason glared, but Ruby held her ground. As she always did.

“The Joker,” he finally answered.

It had been years since the Joker had been imprisoned. There were constant eyes on the clown since, but when Batman, more specifically Bruce Wayne, retired for years, the Joker disappeared. The inseparable duo, Jason thought grimly. Jason watched Ruby’s expression contort from one of distress to one of pure rage. Her ability to change moods was similar to Jason in a remarkable way. The temper she had was nearly unadulterated, despite Jason’s attempts to teach her to control it. She was too much like him to learn otherwise. At the age of seventeen, it seemed she almost did not want to. Her eyes turned hard, unblinking, and it looked as if she stopped breathing. Almost a mirrored image of Jason. Her nose scrunched up slightly in a sort of snarl, and her jaw clenched so hard it looked almost painful like she’d crack a tooth if she clenched any harder. Jason stepped forward in her direction, his hand reaching out to cup her cheek.

“Don’t get angry, I don’t need you to,” he spoke, it was a demand, but a soft one.

“I’m not angry for you, I am just angry,” she corrected.

“He’s in prison, he’s not getting out,”

“I am not just angry at him,” she said in a cold tone. “I know why you hate Bruce now, at least.”

Jason cocked his head to the side. ‘Hate’ was a strong word. He never hated Bruce, he couldn’t. Ruby seemed to misunderstand that.

“Ruby, I do not hate Bruce,” Jason said, his thumb swiping across her cheek to catch the tear that had fallen. Ruby huffed.

“Well, I think I do.”
