I hate small talk. I want to talk about atoms, aliens, sex, magic, intellect, the meaning of life, far away galaxies, the lies you've told, your favorite scents, your childhood, what keeps you up at night, your insecurity and fears. I like people with depth, who speak with emotion and a twisted mind. I don't wanna hear about "what's up". ~W.P.
When I say “I hate small talk” i mean the small talk that comes with forced corporate interactions or soulless performances for extended relatives out of familial obligation. I mean random people at bars killing the silly vibe to talk about their fucking resumes or treating socialization like a job interview with boxes to tick. I don’t want to go to a party to talk about the weather.
Stop acting like people saying they hate small talk can’t ask their partners how their day was. I can engage in small talk and understand it’s wider need without enjoying it. And btw asking your loved ones how they are isnt small talk cus when I ask my partner about their day I am searching for specific details and emotions and anecdotes that they are excited to share and to offer support to them if they need it. That isn’t small talk.
Y’all are so wild with this.

I wrote a ff that was only about four hundred words long, but the reception was just. amazing. I felt so touched seeing that people actually clicked and didn't just dismiss it as a waste of time. I even got comments!! Comments. Bookmarks and collections are nice and all. But comments are the real prizes I look for
I hate small talks... no I ain't here to say a hi only. Let us just forget about the existing world at three in the morning and deeply mesmerize in each others word. Somewhere I heard, dark night shows your dark side. And dark side reflects the lightest shade of your spirit. It truly describes who is actually the person within the materialistic body.
Maybe we both would sit at the edge of my terrace and you'll explain what excites you. But the conversation start with the things which you hate the most, the reason behind your last break down and maybe the most embarrassing thing you witnessed. I promise there will be just us and the crescent moon witnessing our stupid conversation. Maybe three turns to four or moon invites early sun to visit us but I'm gonna hear all your stories.
Just the idea of two sane people sharing insane things in deep makes my heart flatter like the conversation would never meet an end. I also belive in happy endings. So, we gonna end it with you sharing with me things that excites you, things that make you fall in love or the very name of your first crush. And please with the first spark of sunrise, we will promise each other that we gonna forget all the things we confessed. Promise?

I finally got the first part of the story up! Sorry it took so long, I got very busy for a moment there! Life kinda happened lol. Anyway I hope you enjoy it, it was just an idea I had, but I don't feel like it has enough basis to make a full story out of, so it'll be more like a short story :)

Here is what I learned from a speech coach.
warm up:
start this exercise by taking a deep breath and saying “aaaaah” - try to extend this to 30 seconds. Now if it doesn’t go till 30, that’s fine. Aim to work your way to that. If you can work it up to 30, go for 45/60 seconds. Do this 5 times.
next. Download an app called Metronome beats. It’s basically what singers/ musicians use for beats.
Settings: keep beats/bar as 1,
clicks/beats as 1
start at 90. It will start with a click sound and continue “beeping.”
Match your words to the beep. One beep = one word. Now slowly, increase the beat by 5 till you reach 110. Increase it at your own pace but try to spend at least 20 seconds on each number (90 for 20 seconds; 95 for 20; 100 for 20….) That’s when you stop.
either start by reading something out loud and matching the beat, or select a topic and speak freely.
do this every single day. This will help with your breath, if you’re speaking on a topic it will help you think better and improve over time. The best way to further complement this exercise is to improve your vocabulary. Try to learn 1-3 new words a day and incorporate it in your vocabulary.
This is a great tool to use when learning new languages too. You can practice your speaking skills and see how fast you can remember/ read words.
the allergy i am seeing grow up around small talk in any form is troubling to me. do you know how to make friends with people in your physical environment? it typically starts with small talk. do you want to live in community? small talk. do you want to have the type of relationship with your neighbors where you can run over and borrow a battery for your smoke detector when it starts beeping at 10pm? small talk!! do you want leeway from your coworkers when you fuck up something small? you gotta be able to build a relationship and that's small talk, baybeee.
"but i don't need friends and i don't care about community!" okay, lone ranger, what about the people in your community who need you? "but i have social anxiety!" me too, bud! we simply must soldier on. making up lists of questions to ask people helps. and people are predisposed to be generous, i've found. even if you make some kind of mistake, what is this but the natural give and take of human interaction? nobody is perfect.
you were not put on this earth to live by yourself and then die. you need people and people need you. treat those around you with curiosity and generousness of spirit and you will gain so much goodwill in return.

Ahem. How can I start the conversation? OK, I'll try. How do you do, fellow humans?
Tonight I would like to talk about the setting of the Arcana game. Or, more specifically, its atmosphere, about background illustrations that people usually don't notice and/or don't usually talk about.
I love the Arcana background CGs so much. To be honest, those CGs are what got me into the game.
A little story: 4 or 5 years ago I saw an advertisement of the Arcana for the first time. And when I saw those ads on Instagram, it was so horrible and tasteless, imho. These cringe ads rather repelled me instead of attracting me. I saw it and forgot about it, but then…
Some time later, I started looking for background references for my text-based roleplay and found some beautiful illustrations. I didn't use these illustrations for my text roleplay. Besides, I soon forgot about my roleplay. :D and, in Google, I looked at the descriptions under the illustrations I found: "the Arcana game". I was intrigued. Then I downloaded the game. A few moments later I remembered those stupid ads, but I decided to take a chance.
And then, after the Prologue, I was absolutely fascinated. It had nothing in common with those commercials. The game itself was more beautiful than I'd ever imagined. And here I am :D and here we are.
Back to the background graphics. I am personally humbled and grateful to the original artists for these backgrounds. We love the characters – there's no doubt about that. But this setting and atmosphere wouldn’t be what it is without these illustrations.
I usually refer to photos that I think have "the same vibe" or "this place fits the world of Arcana" when I want to expand the world of the game on my own. Like headcanons, fanfiction, et cetera, you know.
Next I would like to show my selection of such photos. All photos from Instagram, not the Pinterest, as this is the most convenient method of attribution.

To be honest, this photo became the indirect reason for this post.
I saw this today and the theme song from the game immediately started playing in my head (can you guess which one?). At the same time, I remembered some of the scenes that take place in our storyline. A lot of the action takes place in the Temple District. Just because… why not? especially when you and your co-author are historians obsessed with religion, lol.
I imagined this picture very vividly:
One of the churches in the Temple District. Silence. Julian sitting in an empty church, deep in thought. Watching how the strip of light from the stained glass window slowly creeping across the floor and the benches, then how the flames of the candles flickering.
He reflects and looks away, shyly, from the instruments of passions and the images of martyrs.
No, he is not religious at all. Just... impressionable. He is only impressionable in that he probably thinks most of the time that he has not yet been struck by lightning because of his impure intentions. Poor boy… 🫀

Anybody else low key struggle with the whole “where are you from” thing? Like, do you mean where I was born, where I’ve lived the longest, ore where I currently live? Lest be a little more specific. Because those can be different answers depending on who you ask, for example, if you meant where I was born, then I’m from Utah County, Utah. Where I’ve lived longest? Then it’s Iron County, Utah. Current residence? That’ll be Harris County, Texas. If you ask me which one I identify more with, it’s Iron County. So there’s that too I guess. I’ll stop now lol.
