that comment about how you should not borrow grief from the future has saved me multiple times from spiraling into an inescapable state of anxiety. like every time i find myself thinking about how something in the future could go wrong i remember that comment and i think to myself: well i never know, it might get better. it might not even happen the way i think it will and if it does happen and it is sad and bad ill be sad about it then, when it happens. and it’s somehow soo freeing

If you're an author/writer, a maladaptive daydreamer, alt, a cosplayer, into DnD/Roleplay, enjoy fantastical fashion, or generally just have a love for fantasy fiction... you HAVE to attend a Renaissance Faire at least once in your life.

I'm most of the above and it was an amazing experience for me. Entirely liberating. I forgot my job, my disorders, my responsibilities. Completely tossed aside my stress for an entire day. There were freaks everywhere; unusual humans of every lovely variety. My friends and I met so many great people. Anti-facists, anarchists, goths, punks...

I'm from a small town and know next to no alternative people. The X's on my gloves, safety pins, the yellow laces on my docs- people don't understand it. There I was able to speak the lingo and made friends in the process. At one point or another I was offered alcohol by a new acquaintance. Told them I was straight edge. Instead of looking at me weird, they GOT IT. Even apologized and asked if it would be disrespectful for them to drink in front of me. I'll tell ya, punks supporting other punks... nothing better.

It was like coming home.

Kermit I am having a bad day do you have any advice from frog joker to fear avatar

Make yourself a warm bevarage. Wrap yourself in blankets. Put on the Muppet Show. And point and scream in abject terror whenever their human guest appears onscreen. There can only be muppet, begone with the man. There can only be muppet, begone with the man. There can only be muppet, begone with the man. There can only be muppet, begone with the man. There can only be muppet, begone with the man. There can only be muppet, begone with the man. There can only be muppet, begone with the man. There can only be muppet, begone with the man.

Understanding and How to Cope with Stress

A lot of the time, our lives are bombarded by obstacles. Some bringing new challenges to the table which is healthy for a fulfilling life but some may be a little more to deal with that can cause unforeseen troubles like sleeplessness, losing control of any given situation, irritability, and so much more.

Understanding your stressors is one way you could learn how to cope with them in the time it takes for the objective to be met. Think of it like a short term goal with a mountain in the way of you meeting that goal. You have the stress of climbing that mountain but what can make the journey over this mountain easier? Bottled water, rope, good hiking shoes maybe? Finding something to make the journey easier or to take your mind away from how difficult it may seem are good ways of coping with stress until you meet that much deserved prize at the end of the trek.

Understanding And How To Cope With Stress

Some Ways I Found To Help Cope:

I work a very stressful job. One of the smallest mistakes could cost me my job or I could even get hurt doing it if I'm not careful. Sometimes, without meaning to, I bring work home with me and I will sit there and think about the day constantly like a broken record. Wondering how I could've handled a situation better, what words that I should've used. Here are some ways I have learned to cope with stress physically and spiritually.

Write in a Journal - I know this one is a little bit more on the obvious side of the spectrum but something as simple as writing your thoughts about the day in a daily journal or diary helps to relieve pressure from the day's stressors. I think of it as having weights on your chest that you want to get off but don't necessarily want the behaviour that comes from the words spoken to go onto someone else when said aloud. I've found that writing about a stressful day really helps manifest the emotions onto paper so by the time you are done writing all the anger and sadness are now on the paper and out of your body. You'll think about how silly you were in the moment and remember that day is now on the paper and out of your hair. Some days, especially if nothing really happened, you can write a poem about something you felt or write a short story. I personally like to place pictures and scrapbook alongside my writing, the possibilities are endless.

Painting on Canvas - This isn't for most people but for the more artistically inclined I have found that painting on canvas has proven to lift my spirits after a long, hard day. Something about how smoothly the paint (oil or acrylic) glides on the canvas makes it as if the paint brush is a bridge for all my feelings to melt into the paint. Once the paint dries upon the canvas it's like the emotions of that day are locked inside. Could be happy, sad, or angry emotions and you'll remember that the piece of artwork was a product of that emotion now locked away in the past. The moral is to focus on the now and leave the past in the past but in a more materialistic way. Sometimes looking at something helps you remember to leave something where it was.

Creating a Meditation and/or Ritual - On the more spiritual side, there are ways of practicing devotional meditation or rituals. Completely a meditation every day after work, school, or activities is a wonderful way of clearing the mind and getting ready to end the day with much needed rest. I personally practice yoga and breathing exercises as a form of meditation and usually at the end of each session I feel completely relaxed and ready for bed. If you like to spice up your meditation routine with a bit of spirituality, help from deities, use incense to cleanse the negativity from yourself and objects around you you can create a daily ritual to conduct before going to bed. It doesn't have to be a crazy complicated ritual, just something that will help you let loose and forget the daily struggles that have occurred. Say a small prayer or blessing and relax.

A method for relaxing when riddled with constant but low grade anxiety

So I don’t really have much of a reference for what it’s like with other people, but I have essentially constant anxiety. It rarely ever devolves into a full on attack but it does leave me with lots of stress and a sort of autopilot mode, I guess you could call it, which lets me still function and get things done without just silently Blue-screening every other half hour over which thing I need or should do first and how much of a failure I am for not getting things done sooner.

But that’s not the point of this post, the point is that I discovered a new little coping mechanism for myself that makes it sooo much easier to fall asleep at night and be able to unwind.

The basic idea of what helps me, is that I treat myself as if I’m an omega in heat. NOW, before you assume, no—this is not anything sexual. I dislike most A/B/O things, but what I do like is how omega heats are treated in the non-smutty fics that are just fluff and comfort. If you’re a regular peruser of the archive or other fanfic sites, then you likely know where I’m going with this.

Soft blankets, a clean bed, and a secure room. I’ve pieced together for myself that each of these things does wonders for my state of mind at night. Cleaning the dirt and little specks of stuff off and out of my sheets let’s me feel like I’ve done something at least a little productive, and reels my subconscious back from its panic over not having done enough for the day and wasting time.

Having soft blankets, a nest of sorts if you will, is not only comfortable and relaxing in of itself, but also makes me feel secure and a bit cut off from the world. A comfort item to hold, clutch like a lifeline, or to just have near during sleep eases my anxiety too, so if you haven’t tried it then it wouldn’t hurt anything to pick one out.

Bedding down for the night in a locked room, or at least a room with a fully closing door is also immensely important for that sense of security and safety. It settles something in the back of my brain that tries to keep me alert and unconsciously ready to defend myself. I assume at least that bit would apply to most people, as I know that it’s makes sleeping easier for everyone if they feel safe. So, all this boils down to really is that if you’re like me and have lots of anxiety keeping you up, start with what makes you feel safe. I know it sounds obvious and like duh, of course feeling safe would lessen anxiety, but just. Take an inventory of sorts. Is your bed comfortable? Is the place you’re sleeping at night defendable? If you have them, are all your windows and doors locked? Common sense stuff that you might have grown used to, but are actually giving your hindbrain little alertness flags.
