Taehyun X Y/n - Tumblr Posts
Scared; Taehyun
Genre: angst, fluff, break up/make up au
Word count: 1.3K
Warnings: a kiss
This is based on my obsession with the song Parking Spot by Prettymuch and Taehyun brain rot :’)

"So that's it? This is all you got?" Taehyun asks with disbelief in his eyes and a frown sketched upon his lips.
You swallow and tighten your grip on the bag in your hand—the bag with all the belongings that have been scattered around Taehyun's apartment for the past months. Your belongings.
"We-" you halt your words and look around as if the walls will give you the right words to tell the man you're ending your relationship with today. "We just won't work."
"Why not? Why won't we work?" Taehyun asks with desperation lacing his voice. He takes a step closer to you and you take a step back, making the man look away with embittered eyes and flared nostrils. He frustratedly runs a hand through his dark brown hair and you just watch him, lips sealed because you deep down know you're not ruining just what you have built with him in the past months; you're ruining him. Yourself.
"You are an idol. You have millions of eyes watching you every day, following your every movement. And me... I'm just me, Taehyu-"
"Stop, Yn," Taehyun mumbles, rubbing his face.
"No, Taehyun. I am going to university, I am working, I do everything any other normal person my age would do. But that's not-"
"Yn, please-"
"-what you need. You don't need 'normal', Taehyun. You need someone who will understand and relate to your lifestyle and your struggles. Only someone like that can support you to the fullest. You deserve that and I can't give you tha-"
"Stop calling me that," Taehyun firmly states, dropping his hands from his face and letting them hang limply by his sides.
You frown, a questioning expression in your eyes.
"Don't call me by my full name. Call me Tae. Call me love, baby, everything you called me the past months. Just... just don't call me by my full name, Yn," the boy in front of you asks, his voice cracking as salty tears make his dark eyes start burning.
Your face softens and his words cause your shoulders to slump as you look at the boy who gave you the best six months of your life. The boy with the warmest hugs, softest hands, and most delicate lips. With the darkest eyes, brightest smile, and most contagious laugh. The boy with the biggest heart.
"I don't fit in your life, Tae," you whisper, slowly letting go of the bag in your hand and Taehyun shakes his head.
"Let me be the one to decide that," he replies and starts walking up to you. You take another step back and your back hits the wall. You shake your head before looking up and letting out a shaky sigh. You know you should walk past him and leave his apartment. But as he gets closer to you and you can clearly see the tears glistening in his eyes, you don't want to move. You don't want to run. You look down, not being able to look at him.
"You say you won't be able to understand me, to give me the support I need," Taehyun starts once he halts his steps when the tips of his beat-up converse almost touch your shoes. "But then why are you the first girl who knows about my deepest fears? About my most hidden insecurities and my biggest dreams? Why are you the first girl who has met my closest friends and family?" He mumbles, not bothering to wipe the escaped tear off his cheek. He takes another step forward and you gulp at the close proximity. With his chest now touching yours, you can feel the rapid pace of his heart and you realize just how nervous he is—how scared he is to lose you.
"You say you won't be able to understand or support me, but then why are you the only person who has ever made me feel this understood in my entire life, who has ever made me feel this supported?" He asks and his minty breath fans your lips as he tilts his head while letting his gaze roam your face. "Why, hm?"
You refuse to look up at him, scared you'll break and give in the moment your eyes meet his. But Taehyun doesn't accept your avoidance. He knows you're keeping something from him. He knows you don't want to end your relationship.
Taehyun gently takes your chin in between his thumb and index finger and raises your face to make you look at him.
"Answer me, baby," he softly pleads, desperate eyes searching for yours.
"I'm scared I'm not enough for you, Tae," you finally confess and the walls that were holding back the tears behind your eyes finally break. "I'm not even from here. I am afraid I'll never get accepted into your life. I'm scared you'll realize you need more than me and you'll leave. I need to protect my heart before all of that happens," you mumble, tears now falling from your eyes. Taehyun lets out a breath he didn't know he was holding and slowly shakes his head before pulling you into his body. He places his hand on the back of your head and you lean into his chest as you cry.
"Shh, deep breaths," he whispers as he strokes your hair with one hand while wrapping his other arm around your back. "Everything's going to be okay, pretty girl. I'm here. I'll always be here."
He presses multiple kisses on the top of your head and you slip your hands under his hoodie to embrace his warm body.
"You are more than enough to me. And I will let you know until you believe me. God, Yn, I thought I couldn't breathe anymore just now when you said you were leaving," he mumbles into your hair before closing his eyes and inhaling your sweet scent to calm his heart down.
"You make me feel so grounded and alive at the same time. I've never felt anything like this. Please, give me the chance to show you I can make you feel the same way. Let me show you you belong with me more than anyone. Prove with me that nothing around us matters as long as we love each other."
You slowly look up at him and he softly smiles at you as he cups your face and wipes the tears off your cheeks with his thumbs.
"Love?" You mumble.
"I love you, Yn. I love you so much I think about you day and night. All the nights you listened to my hours of venting, the safe space you created for me in such a short period of time, everything you taught me... God, Yn, I love you so much," he earnestly confesses and your lower lip starts quivering again.
"My God, Tae, you're going to make me start sobbing again," you reply with an embarrassed chuckle, and your voice cracks as tears fall from your eyes again, making Taehyun let out a sweet laugh.
"Just tell me you love me too," he whispers while searching for your eyes.
You stay silent for a few seconds as you let yourself get lost in the galaxy in his eyes before giving a small nod.
"It terrifies me how much I love you."
Taehyun's face softens and an emotional smile colors his tear stained lips when hearing your honest words.
He strokes your cheek with his thumb before leaning in and capturing your lips in between his. Your eyes flutter shut at the soft feeling of his plush lips against your own and you tighten your grip on his waist, pulling him closer if that is even possible.
"My baby," he whispers against your lips, making your heart do a summersault before he places another long kiss on your lips. “I was so scared I’d lose you."

pairing: taehyun x f!reader
genre: college au, f2l, fluff, suggestive
warnings: shirtless taehyun (refer to picture above because god FUCKING DAMN IT TAEHYUN) also there's probably a lot of spelling errors and things that may not make sense cause I switched between my phone and my laptop multiple times writing this so just lmk in the comments... what you think!
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
you didn’t expect anyone to be at the pool at this hour. it was past midnight and everyone had already said their goodnights so you thought this would be the perfect time to swim. you didn’t get to earlier when everyone had decided to go, far too busy finishing up last minute assignments while everyone rushed to get ready and head to the elevator.
it was supposed to be a relaxing three-day trip for the six of you before school started again. you had all saved up from last summer to afford this trip and make it the best but not last of all the trips you had planned. definitely not last. it was exciting and you loved traveling but if you didn’t finish up the last of your summer class you knew you would never get it done. so you stayed in your hotel room that you shared with hueningkai and he made a promise to bring back up your favorite gelato from the gelato stand in the lobby. it was sweet but you knew it was disappointing you couldn’t make it so you tried your best to finish as fast as you could before falling asleep after hitting submit. you really hadnt meant to but maybe all that lost sleep during the week before had hit all at once.
you were surprised to wake up with a blanket gently placed across your figure. you realized it was already nighttime with the only light in the room being from the moon casting its glow from the hotel window. you looked to your left to see kai already asleep in bed, cozied up between the five extra pillows he ordered to the room once you had checked in. it caused a small smile to break onto your face as you got up and stretched. you took a sip from the water bottle you had brought, the ice still fresh and cool within the bottle leaving a refreshing feeling down your throat.
you limbs ached from the awkward sleeping position you were in but now that you were wide awake you couldnt just go back to sleep. the pool started to seep into your thoughts, and after missing the opportunity earlier today you felt like it wouldn’t hurt to try tonight. the pool is open 24/7 but seeing as its not a very populated hotel you knew there wouldn’t be anyone daring to go this late in the night. better for you, you thought.
you decided to slip into the two piece you had bought awhile back. it was an expensive set for a broke college student such as yourself but so comfortable. your friend had recommended it last summer and you're glad you took their suggestion. it fit your figure well, hugging you at the waist and giving your bust a nice lift. it was in your favorite color and the shape really did it for you in ways you didn't know a swimsuit could. if you saw yourself you would probably take yourself out! not even kidding. after checking yourself in the mirror you slipped on a matching sarong and made your way to the pool.
when you reached the entrance you could only hear the subtle sounds of bubbling from the jets in the water and soft jazz music playing from the hotel speakers. it was nice and really set up the mood for your swim. you were so busy setting your things down and taking your time stepping into the shallow end to realize you werent alone. the person making themselves known with a short call from across the room.
“so you’re just gonna ignore me?”
you yelped almost slipping but your grip on the metal handrail was enough to save you of such an embarrassment. you looked over to see taehyun, shirtless in the jacuzzi area of the pool.
“don’t mind me though.. i’m enjoying the view.”
you gave a subtle roll of your eyes towards his direction when he let out that soft chuckle of his. you took a minute to take him in, shirtless and settled in the jacuzzi. god he looked good. Don’t get me wrong, he always looks good but right now.. in front of you.. he was something else. ethereal. the water droplets just complimenting his firm chest, the shitty lights glistened against his skin that he somehow made look so good.
“why are you even here? its like 1am?”
“i could ask you the same thing”
“okay well i thought you had a bedtime sir”
“just because i keep a well organized schedule doesnt mean anything and stop calling it a bedtime!”
you chuckle.
“whatever.” you say as you sink further into the water, enjoying the way the cool temperature sets all around your body. the water felt good against your skin and you missed the feeling of swimming every summer since away for college.
you chose to float around a little bit in the empty pool for a minute before he broke the comfortable silence.
"how was your nap? i know you must've needed it being a bio major and all."
"uh it was.. good, how do you even know I feel asleep?"
"..kai sent a pic of you to the gc."
"OMG he always catches me at the worst moment" you cried out as you waved your arms at his revelation. it caused a bit of water to splash around and he chuckled at your little action.
"don't worry, it was cute."
"yeah with my face in my keyboard." you retorted back.
he just laughed, that handsome sound resonating across the room and into your heart. if you couldn't even handle it from here you don't know what you would do up close.
"so are you gonna keep talking to me from there or are you gonna join me?"
of course he had to ask. the thought was tempting, especially when you consider the warm bubbling public bath that is the jacuzzi. and before you know it, your body takes charge over your reluctant mind.
you don't know who or what propelled you to start walking up the steps and towards his direction but you couldn't stop now. you needed to be able to handle yourself around him and maybe you would practice that... now in front of his shirtless, sculpted figure.
he looked even better up close, you didn't even know how a person could make the poor lighting so good.
finally, you took the first step, taking all the willpower in you to not shiver against his gaze. you felt how he stared at your figure from head to toe as you slowly submerged yourself into the jacuzzi, allowing the ripples in the water to guide you to a seat in front of him. the jets against your back felt nice, it was something you tried your hardest to focus on without being too obvious you were a little bothered in more ways than one.
you knew you shouldn't think about him like this, having been friends since elementary school. your true day one. that day you had met on the playground was still so vivid in your mind. he had been nearby when you slipped on the vault bar trying to impress your friends with a flip of your own. it was really embarrassing thinking back on it, your friends hadn’t moved an inch from their spots on the bar to check on you so you laid there body still on the red rubber floor and head still stinging from the impact. you wanted to lay there forever, if even your friends didn’t care then you shouldnt either and that meant not getting up. you were gonna close your eyes until a short head of hair appeared above you, blocking the sky from your vision.
“hey are you okay?” the boy you recognized from your class asked. his eyes stared into your own with utmost concern laced within them.
“uh.. yeah”
“here.” he lent out a hand for you to take. you were reluctant at first but eventually took it, he was sweet enough to ask you if you were okay so you might as well.
“my names taehyun!”
“my names y/n!” sharing his cheerfulness.
“wanna go play on the swings?”
you almost said yes immediately but looked back to see your friends still enveloped in their conversation about the dolls that were popular at the time. making a new friend wouldnt hurt, you thought.
“yes!” and took his hand in yours to run towards the swings before anyone else took them.
sitting there in front of him like this was normal. it wasn’t like you’ve never been swimming together its just that.. lately you realized how the term “best friends” didnt seem to fit the feelings you had towards him. and it made this moment feel.. different. you blame your little crush on that fact that he had a massive glowup after highschool and started working out more. his arms toned and bare in front of you glistened in the dim lights the pool room provided but it gave enough to allow you to see how the water droplets slide off of his skin so nicely, everytime he moved to adjust his position they would flex in a way that made you feel… god you need to stop ogling your best friend of all things but you couldn’t with the way he looked so addicting.
you easily slipped into conversation, talking to each other was easier than breathing and he was always someone you loved to listen to. he was so smart and you’ve known that being in several classes together. he always had great advice whenever you needed it and you appreciated every bit that was kang taehyun.
you hadnt realized how close you two had gotten in the jacuzzi until you reached out to push his chest from you after he had made a joke. it barely took anything to lift your arm up to push back his chest and your eyes widened at the contact. you may have let your hand wander a little too long against it, you couldnt help it! but as soon as you realized it you took your hand away. soon becoming embarrassed and slipping your arm back into the water at your side.
“y/n”
“yes?” you refused to look up. you knew there would be a teasing look on his face and you didnt want to give him the satisaction.
“look at me.” he requested. but after you had refused he took it into his own hands, quite literally, and placing his palms below your jaw, pulling your face up to look him in the eye.
“what?”
“nothing. just wanted to see your pretty face again.”
“stop messing around”
“im not though. you’re really pretty, y/n”
your cheeks couldnt help but turn into a reddish hue and your ears perked up at the compliment. he thought it was cute how easily flustered you got at the simplest of compliments.
“cute” he said, as he tucked a loose strand of your damp hair behind your ear.
“dont say things you dont mean, tae. i know you’re only teasing.”
“you think.. i'm just teasing?”
“well.. aren't you?”
“i never thought of it like that.. didnt know it came off that way.”
you felt bad you didnt mean to say anything that would hurt his feelings.
“i-“
“guess i’ll just have to spell it out for you now.” and he winked. god that wink.. it was so cheesy but you couldnt help the butterflies that swarmed your stomach.
you hadn't noticed how the distance between the two of you was nearly gone, your faces just inches apart and noses brushing past one another the more you stayed in this position. he was so close yet so far. you didnt know what to do, looking from his lips to his eyes in an attempt to see what lie beneath them. you didnt know what he was thinking or if it would be okay to
but, he knew what you were thinking, he always did. choosing to speak first.
“i want this. i want you”
“i… but”
“i want you, y/n”
it was enough to pop the turmoil that sat in your stomach and make the first move. crashing your lips onto his and allowing your arms to snake from their stilled position and around his neck. you loved the way you felt him shiver under your touch when you ran your hand through his hair. the way his hands seemed to find purchase at your waist, massaging circles into your hips felt too good to be true. you loved the way he tasted, the familiar minty toothpaste he used still laden on his tongue.
“god, you’re so beautiful”
you never knew you would hear those words escape from his lips. sure he’s called you cute and pretty numerous times before but never in the way he says it now. chests colliding and bodies moving in sync as if it was meant to be like this forever.
his words only allowed the heat against your cheeks to brighten and he knew you were blushing. making it worse as he teased your sides causing u to squirm against his hold.
“you don’t know.. how long.. i’ve been wanting to do this with you. to do this to you.” he said between kisses.
“god, you make me crazy” you couldnt agree more.
maybe it was the heat from the passionate makeout sesh you were having with tyun or the still warm jacuzzi but your senses were constantly on overdrive. completely enveloped in the feeling he gave you. it left tingles down your spine and your brain on 100. your legs felt like jelly with the way he so expertly knew how to hold you, knew how to touch you to make you melt against him. it made you wonder if you knew him the same too?
“WTF get a room!”
you immediately jumped back at the sound of another voice coming from the doorway. but taehyun held you firm, looser than before but close enough for you not to leave his side. you could see the way he stared at the voice with such annoyance.. you knew you shouldnt have been feeling this way especially with a third party now in the room but the butterflies really flew down to your kitty causing you to clench your thighs together.
“go back to your room, beomgyu.”
“yeah yeah i can see. you’re busy.”
“whatever.”
“don’t mind me then!” beomgyu shouted.
he finally looked away from gyu as a big splash is heard from the main pool followed by a few other voices you can tell are getting closer to entering the room. the expression on his face immediately softens as he locks eyes with you. and he leans down to whisper in your ear
“why dont we find ourselves another place… to continue”
god he made you feel so crazy. but you didnt want it to stop.
you followed him like a puppy, still latched to his side hands intertwined. you allowed him to walk you two to his room which was fortunately just him. he had won the bet to have a room to himself and now it really was putting all the benefits to work. (in his favor?)
but once you had got into the room he got shy.
“ah sorry.. maybe you dont want to actually.. continue..” he said as he scratched the back of his neck.
“uh no no dont be sorry i..”
“i wont.. i wont do anything if you say you dont want to”
“i want to. i want you. i really do.. now more than ever im sorry thats its taken me so long to-“
then he places a quick kiss to your lips as he whispers against it, already missing the feel of his plush pink against yours that are probably brazen red. “then we don’t need to waste anymore time now.”
and it was back to the feeling he gave you in the jacuzzi. the jets in the water hitting your back now absent, but instead replaced by the feeling of his strong hands having found purchase on your waist again. you fit into him so well it made him feel dizzy. he couldn't get enough of you. he slowly guided you to the bed, hands lifting your legs up against his instinctually wrapping around his waist as he softly laid you down on the bed. he broke the kiss to place more against your jawline and down your neck to your collarbone. he nipped at areas you didn’t know could arouse you, soft mewls escaping your lips at the feeling of his teeth grazing against your skin. you tugged a bit at his hair, testing the waters. you earned a deep grunt resonating from his position at your chest.
he was wrapped around your finger even if you didn’t know it. anytime spent with you is never a waste, but he would make up all of the lost time you could’ve had together in this position over and over again. but he didnt need to tell you that.. he could just show you instead.
and show, he did.

March
You could hear them before you saw them.
As you look up from your table, you see five men round the corner. One with gray hair, his laugh echoing off the walls it’s so loud, poking fun at another with shockingly blue hair who looks like he’d love nothing more than to shove the other to the ground.
The two tallest are clinging to each other, one softly giggling to himself while the other’s barking laugh sounds so peculiar it makes you smile.
Finally, the last is silent but looking at his friends with a small warm smile. He rolls his eyes as he connects with your gaze, a silent apology for his friends’ ridiculousness.
“May I help you, gentlemen?” you ask, folding your hands in front of you on the table.
There’s a prolonged silence as they all look at each other, waiting for another to speak. In a flurry of movement, the blue haired one shoves the gray haired boy towards you, muttering “You’re the one that wanted to come here, say something!”
He stumbles forward, hand grasping the chair across from you. His laugh squeaks out again, and as he comes closer, you can smell alcohol rolling off his body, mingling with sweat. It’s unseasonably hot for this time of year.
“What’s your name?” you smile.
“Beomgyu,” he grins widely at you. “What’s yours, beautiful?”
The quiet giggler from before looks shocked by his friend’s response, but you’ve become used to patrons coming in after a late night of drinking, and you’ve been called way worse than beautiful.
“Raven. Take a seat, Beomgyu. If you’re the one who brought your friends here, then you get to be first to have your fortune told.”
He slides into the seat in front of you, eyes sparkling with interest.
“I’ll answer one question…what would you like to know?”
Beomgyu thinks for a bit, chewing his bottom lip.
“Come on, dude…hurry up!” the blue haired boy exclaims with exasperation. “At this rate, she’ll only be able to answer you and no one else!”
“Shut up, Yeonjun, you don’t tell me what to do!” Beomgyu waves his hand dismissively at the other. “Okay, I think I know what I want to ask…when will I meet my soulmate?”
Yeonjun groans and makes a gagging sound as you pull a crystal ball out from under the table and place it between you and Beomgyu.
“Excellent question…I won’t be able to give an exact date or anything like that, but I should be able to hone in on the general time period.”
You gaze into the ball in front of you for a few moments, scrutinizing the reflection of Beomgyu and the lights in the room. The lights eventually dim, and it feels like a fog is rolling through your brain. Your skin prickles, though not unpleasantly. A vision of Beomgyu dances across your consciousness, another energy surrounding him. He seems pleased, chasing after it as it darts away from him. You can see glimpses of their surroundings…a stage, it feels like lots of attention and pressure. He looks close to his current age, but you get a gut feeling it’s further down the line than it appears.
Suddenly, the room swirls back into focus.
“You’ll meet them in around 5 years. There seems to be a lot of pressure around the relationship, something to do with performing on stage…are you in the entertainment industry?”
Beomgyu goes wide eyed and nods, and you can hear Yeonjun gasp behind him.
“Makes sense…yes, there’s lots of pressure around the relationship because of that, but you’ll be very happy nevertheless. Both of you.”
The boy in front of you grins widely, getting up from the chair and motioning towards Yeonjun to take his place.
—----------------------------------------------------------------
The other boys listen to you raptly as you tell them all about their careers, their love lives, and their families. All except the last one…the one who had seemingly apologized for his friends’ behavior when they had first stumbled in.
You’d noticed him rolling his eyes while you were talking with the others, and now he’s shaking his shock of jet black hair out of his eyes, taking a seat in front of you while a ghost of a smirk pulls at his lips.
“What would you like to know?” you ask politely, not too excited about whatever answer he’s bound to give.
“Tell me whatever,” he states bluntly. “Fortune telling isn’t real…no offense.” You can see the challenge in his eyes, daring you to refute his claim.
The tallest boy, now named Soobin you’ve learned, gasps behind him and smacks him on the shoulder. “Taehyun, that’s rude!”
Taehyun glances back at the older boy then shrugs his shoulders. “It’s true.”
His dark gaze returns to you and he folds his hands in front of him on the table.
“Prove me wrong.”
It’s your turn to have a smirk play across your lips…you enjoy a challenge more than you’ll readily admit.
You pull up your sleeves and place your hands on either side of your crystal ball. After a few moments, smoke starts to swirl inside, only visible to you.
A giggle escapes you suddenly, causing Taehyun to raise his eyebrow.
“What?”
“You simply have no future…I’m sorry.”
Beomgyu immediately lets out a barking laugh, and Yeonjun punches him in the arm to get him to shut up, though you can tell that he’s fighting back his own.
Taehyun’s eyes narrow. “And what’s that supposed to mean?”
“I’m joking, geez.” You roll your eyes and you see Taehyun relax in the chair. “As boring as it is, all I can see is that you’re going to change up your normal coffee order next week.”
“Good luck with that!” Hueningkai, the youngest, calls out. “All he ever gets is a caramel macchiato!”
You lean back in your chair, hands folded in front of you, mirroring Taehyun. “I just call it like I see it.”
The boy in front of you looks displeased and pushes away from the table. “That’s not even a real fortune, at least everyone else’s was interesting…” he mutters, starting to stand up.
“How about I make it worth your while?” you blurt out before you can think too hard about it.
Taehyun crosses his arms and looks down at you.
“What do you mean?”
“You said it’s not real, right? So what if I make a bet with you? If what I predicted comes true, you owe me.”
You can see other boys’ eyes shine with interest behind Taehyun.
“Okay…say I do change up my coffee order next week. What then?”
You lean back in your chair, surveying Taehyun from top to bottom.
“You owe me a date.”
There is a collective gasp into the silence, and Taehyun narrows his eyes again, surveying you in turn.
You swallow thickly, starting to think you’ve gone too far as Taehyun turns from you, walking towards the door. The others slide past him outside, and he leans on the doorframe, studying you.
“You know what? You’ve got yourself a deal.”
And with that, he’s gone.
—------------------------------------------
It’s business as usual for the next few days. You go to your regular job (what, did you think fortune telling paid the bills?), run your shop most nights, and everything seems to go as normally as possible.
That is, until Thursday night. It’s pretty quiet since it’s early in the evening, and you’re puttering around, cleaning. Suddenly, the bell over the door rings almost violently with how quickly the door was pushed open.
“I’ll be with you in a min-” you start to say, looking over your shoulder at whoever has entered the shop.
It’s Taehyun, slightly out of breath, arms crossed across his chest.
“...oh,” you breathe, surprised. You’d expected to never see him again, especially with how skeptical he’d been of fortune telling. “Can I…help you?” You doubt he’s here to get a second reading.
“Yeah, you can…I believe I owe you a date?”
The vase in your hands you had picked up to dust slips through your fingers and shatters on the floor.
Immediately Taehyun rushes to your side, gingerly picking up shards of the vase so you don’t step on them.
“Are you okay?” He looks up at you with wide eyes, full of concern.
You shake your head to rid yourself of the shock and look down at him.
“Fine, I’m fine.” You crouch down to join him, gathering up the last little pieces and taking a handful from him to dump in the garbage.
You turn back to him. “You said you owed me a date?”
“You didn’t forget our little bet that quickly, did you?” He raises an eyebrow incredulously. “Especially since you were the one who came up with the idea…you could’ve just asked me out the normal way, you know.”
“But what fun is that? I love a challenge, especially when it involves a cute boy thinking that I’m lying to them.”
“Ah, so you do think I’m cute,” he smirks.
“Notice how I didn’t bet a date on any of your other friends…yes, you’re cute. Now what coffee order did you get? You know, you could have also just asked me on a date the normal way instead of getting a whole new coffee order. I’m flattered, truly.”
Taehyun strides towards you, pulling a chair out from the table you normally do readings at and sits down.
“Little do you know, I didn’t get a new coffee order, Miss Know-It-All.”
You pull out your normal chair, sitting down and leaning towards Taehyun, elbows propped and head between your hands.
“I thought being a know-it-all was your job,” you wink at him, though you can feel the heat emanating from your face. You weren’t sure what had come over you, but something about Taehyun just made you want to prove him wrong.
He leans in towards you as well, close enough to make you nervous.
“My job is being a man of my word. I said I would take you on a date if your prediction came true, and it did. Are you free tomorrow night? Say, 7?”
“I can be if you make it worth my while. Normally I’d be working here, making quite a bit of money…you and your friends came in last Friday, if you recall.”
“How about dinner and drinks at Cafe 553?”
You can’t help the gasp that comes out of your mouth. Cafe 553 was one of the most, if not the most, expensive restaurant in town.
Taehyun gets up and reaches forward, gently pushing your mouth closed with a finger placed under your chin.
“I’ll see you at seven, Miss Know-It-All.” His voice is a low whisper against your ear that causes goosebumps to erupt on the back of your neck.
And with a small wave, he’s gone.
—-----------------------------------------------------
You’re smoothing down the edges of your dress as you look in the mirror the next night, though it’s more out of nervousness than anything to do with needing to adjust the clothing.
As you turn to check yourself from all angles, you’re pleased. Your dress is made of crushed velvet in a deep plum, and your heels are a classic black. Your makeup is more on the natural side, save for a berry lip to go with your dress.
A pinging noise sounds from inside your bag, and you fish out your phone to see a text from Taehyun stating that he’s arrived outside your apartment complex and is waiting. You glance in the mirror one last time, grab your keys, and head downstairs.
Taehyun’s car is unassuming, and he hops out to open your door for you, his eyes drinking in your outfit of choice, though his glance never lingers too long in one place.
“All this, for me?” he grins, raising an eyebrow.
“Well it’s not like I could show up to Cafe 553 in sweatpants,” you retort, though a smile graces your face.
“After you, m’lady.” Taehyun gestures to your seat, which you take. He then slides into his own and begins to drive.
Silence fills the car for a while, though it’s not unpleasant. You can tell Taehyun is focused on the road, yet also on whether you’re comfortable. He’s adjusted the air conditioning in the car for the fourth time when you finally reach out your hand to cover his, removing it from the offending dial.
“I’m fine, stop messing with the A/C.”
Taehyun steals a glance at you, looking slightly embarrassed. “Are you sure you’re fine?” You nod, and he places his hand back on the wheel.
“What I do want to know…is how on earth did the new coffee order come about?”
A smile works its way across his face and he drums his fingers against the steering wheel.
“Funny you should ask…like Kai said, I always order a caramel macchiato. Always. I can’t stand black coffee, it’s too bitter. Anyway, I ordered the usual, and when the barista called my name, I took the order to go. As I was walking back to practice, I took a sip and realized I had a vanilla latte. Therefore, a new coffee order. Not by my own volition, I’ll have you know…that detail’s important.”
A giggle escapes you at his story. “That’s it? A barista mix up? Classic. Well, I guess I was still right, then.”
“Thus why I’m taking you on this date, remember?”
“Aw, that’s all? You don’t even think I’m pretty? The most interesting girl you’ve ever met?”
Taehyun snorts with laughter. “You keep me on my toes, that’s for sure…and no, I don’t think you’re pretty.”
A frown immediately takes over your face, and as you turn in indignation, wheels turning in your head trying to come up with some clever comeback-
“I think you’re beautiful.”
—-------------------------------------------------------
The two of you settle in a booth towards the back of Cafe 553. The seating is snug and cozy, a candle throwing warm lighting across the table.
Taehyun sends a soft smile your way as you make eye contact over your menus, and you can’t help returning one in kind.
“Can I get you started with something to drink?”
A waiter has made his way to the table, and Taehyun points at a red wine halfway down the page, ordering the bottle for the two of you.
After the waiter returns with the wine and takes your order (gnocchi al pomodoro for you, spaghetti alle vongole for him), you start chatting about your lives. Taehyun tells you all about how he works as a private tutor for a few wealthy families in town, in addition to performing shows with the other guys.
You in turn share about how you work in a bakery during the day, and do fortune telling in the evenings, which leaves you little time for a social life.
“You’re lucky I agreed to this date, is what I’m really trying to say.”
“What, you don’t think I’m handsome? The most interesting guy you’ve ever met?” Taehyun smirks at you, candlelight casting strange shadows across his face and glinting off his wine glass.
As you open your mouth to respond to his sarcasm, the edges of your vision go black and you feel the fog of a vision rolling through your brain.
Several moments later, you notice Taehyun staring at you, wide eyes full of concern.
“What happened?”
He shakes his head, trying to clear the shock off his face. “What happened? I made a joke and then your face went blank and then you started saying something about my love life.”
“Anything good? Or are you doomed to die alone?”
Taehyun looks at you incredulously. “No, actually. Your voice was super monotone and you said something along the lines of, ‘You’ll find the one your heart desires, but they will not be as they seem.’ Do you not remember any of that?”
You shake your head. “Guess I’m not the one your heart desires, huh?” you add in an attempt to lighten the mood.
Taehyun’s brow scrunches in confusion, trying to parse out whether you’re upset or not. “I wouldn’t say that just yet-I told you I thought fortune telling wasn’t real. Though now I’m starting to doubt that…”
“I would never lie to you.”
His face smoothes out at this, a smile reappearing. “So how would you feel about a second date?”
“What about the fortune?”
“I’m not done figuring you out yet, Miss Know-It-All.”
—---------------------------------------------------
You stare at your ceiling before bed that night, pondering over what had happened at Cafe 553. You’d never blacked out telling someone’s fortune before, and you wonder why Taehyun was the first. You’d told his fortune the week before, so what was so different about tonight? Thinking about it starts to give you a headache, so you turn on your side, pull up your blankets and take comfort in the fact that even after everything that had happened, Taehyun wanted to see you again.
April
You’re on your way to a local bookstore when you suddenly turn to Taehyun.
“Did you lose something important?”
He seems confused. “No…? Why do you ask?”
“It’s just when I was working the opening shift at the bakery today, I had this vision that you lost something, I just couldn’t see what.”
The two of you walk in silence for a few moments, then Taehyun turns to you.
“I mean, I did lose my library book about carnivorous plants, but I don’t think that’s necessarily that important…”
“Education is a cornerstone of society, Taehyun, you know that! Honestly, working with kids I would hope you realize that-wait a minute…carnivorous plants?” You raise an eyebrow.
“What? I was thinking about getting a Venus flytrap…don’t judge me!”
May
“Cheers!” You clink your ice cream cone gently against Taehyun’s to celebrate the end of the school year, then quickly move to lick the drops that are starting to edge their way down the side of your cone.
“I predict this summer’s gonna be a hot one.”
“You trying to steal my job?” you laugh.
“Please, if I was a fortune teller, I’d run you out of town.”
“No you wouldn’t, you’d miss me too much,” you smirk.
Taehyun grabs you by the hand and pulls you against his chest, making sure to avoid ice cream falling.
“You’re right, I would,” he grins and drops a quick kiss to your lips. “I’ve been meaning to ask you this for a while now…be my girlfriend? Officially?”
“What is this, high school?” you snort.
“Well I do work with kids, and my bandmates have the maturity of 16 year olds, so that tracks, honestly. What do you say?”
You lift up on your tiptoes to land another kiss on his lips.
“I say…yes.”
June
You’re under an umbrella, hair fanned out across Taehyun’s lap as you look out at the waves crashing onto the shore. You’d both taken a day trip out to the beach as a break-you from work, him from practice and his bandmates.
“Is it really all that bad? You’re playing a festival at the end of summer, that’s exciting!”
He smiles down at you and gently moves a strand of hair off your face.
“No, it’s not that bad. I love the guys, they’re my best friends. I just needed to get away for a little bit, have a change of scenery. It’s hard work being the lead vocalist, you know.” Taehyun winks cheekily, and you swat his leg.
“I didn’t know I was dating a rock star.”
He leans towards you, landing a quick peck on your lips. “Well, now you do.”
You roll your eyes as you sit up, though you can’t help laughing as well. You reach a hand out towards him. “Come on, let’s go swim! We didn’t come to the beach to just stare at it.”
He raises an eyebrow. “You may not have, but I am quite content to sit here and people watch. And wave watch.”
A pout works its way onto your lips, and you send your best puppy-dog eyes your boyfriend’s way.
“C’mon, Tyunnie…who’s going to save me if a shark comes?”
He’s unimpressed. “A lifeguard, that’s who.”
“Please?” you whine as Taehyun gets up off the blanket, dusting sand off his swim trunks.
“Nice try.”
“...fine,” you pout, turning towards the water and starting to walk towards the shoreline.
You’ve gone about ten steps when you suddenly feel a hand wrap around your shoulders and then your feet have left the ground.
Taehyun has swept you up bridal style into his arms and is running towards the water.
“What are you doing?!” you shriek, clinging onto his shoulders for dear life.
“You said you wanted to go swimming, I’m just helping you out!” he pants breathlessly, laughing. His smile lights up his whole face.
“Taehyun, stop-”
But it’s too late. As he runs into deeper waters, he unceremoniously drops you into the ocean. Two minutes later, you’ve dragged him under with you.
You wouldn’t have it any other way.
July
You’re tucked into Taehyun’s side, his arm wrapped around you and your head on his shoulder. It’s the middle of summer and you’re both sweating profusely in the heat, even in his apartment, but you can’t help feeling like things are perfect. You let out a contented sigh, and Taehyun squeezes your shoulder.
“How was your day, love?”
You can’t help the light pink that dusts your cheeks at the term of endearment-though you’d been dating for a few months now, you still weren’t used to him being so soft towards you.
“It was fine…better now, though.” You smile up at Taehyun, but he draws back from you, concern lacing his features.
“Better now? Did something happen?”
“I just had another weird vision. I was at work and I saw us in this dimly lit room with weird lighting. I couldn’t figure out what was going on, and I went up to you to say something, but next thing I knew, my coworker was telling me that I had started talking in monotone, like I did at Cafe 553, and I couldn’t remember anything I said.”
Taehyun’s eyes go wide and he pulls you into his side again, rubbing soothing circles on your arm.
“Did your coworker say anything about what you said?”
“Apparently it was mostly incoherent mumbling, but I kept saying your name over and over again…”
The two of you sit in silence for a while. You’re starting to regret bringing up anything at all when Taehyun suddenly extracts himself from you and strides over to his bookshelf, clearly looking for something specific.
“What are you-” you start, but he cuts you off.
“Here it is! I knew I had read something about this-when visions start to become blurry, it is usually due to a blockage to the user’s magic. Maybe that’s what happened to you!” He turns around, book open and eyes sparkling.
“Taehyun, what even is that? Do you…have a book about fortune telling?”
He closes the book and holds it to his side, scratching the back of his head and looking bashful.
“Once we started dating, I got some books about it because I wanted to understand it more…I wanted to understand you more. I felt a little out of my depth, y’know?”
You walk over to him, wrapping your arms around his neck and meeting his wide-eyed gaze.
“You’re cute, you know that?”
“You’re not weirded out?” Taehyun looks shocked at your reaction, and you lean upwards to give him a quick kiss.
“Never.”
August
“Our last song is a newer one…are you ready?!”
The crowd roars to life around you. You’re out at the local park for Summer Sendoff, a big outdoor festival that Taehyun and his bandmates had been invited to be a part of. You’d surprisingly never seen them play live, just heard snippets of whatever song happened to be stuck in Taehyun’s head at any given time.
“I know Yeonjun writes a lot of our music, but I wanted to make sure that everyone knew that I wrote this one…it’s very special to me, because it’s about someone who’s very special to me. I love you, Rae.”
Your mouth drops open as the crowd starts murmuring, wondering who this mysterious girl is. You’re in shock-this is the first time Taehyun has said he loves you, and you’re not quite sure what to do with yourself. You’re glad he used your fortune telling name so everyone wouldn’t be able to figure out who you were, but you also feel like your heart might burst open with how much emotion you’re feeling.
The song that Taehyun wrote is beautiful, and you can tell he’s put so much effort into it. His voice soars with emotion, and when Beomgyu joins him to harmonize, you realize you have tears running down your cheeks.
The song comes to an end all too quickly, and you shove your way through the crowd to make your way backstage. There is security and staff everywhere, but you catch a glimpse of Taehyun’s head through the masses and sprint towards him.
A giant smile breaks across his face as he catches you and spins you around before setting you back down on your feet.
“What did you think?”
He looks expectantly at you.
“I love you too, Taehyun.”
September
The smell of freshly baked bread and cookies wafts around you as you shuffle around, making sure that the display cases at the bakery are ready to go. Heading into fall, everything is pumpkin and apple flavored and it makes you smile.
The bell tinkles over the door into the shop and you turn to tell whoever it is that the bakery doesn’t open for another 15 minutes, and you are surprised to see your boyfriend in the doorway. He’s slightly out of breath, and he has a tote bag in his hands.
“Taehyun? What are you doing here?”
He sweeps his bangs out of his eyes and smiles at you, even while coughing trying to catch his breath. He holds out the tote towards you, shaking it so you take it. You open it, looking inside.
“You forgot your lunch…you have a double shift today, right?”
“Yeah I do, but I could’ve just gone out for lunch, silly! I appreciate it though.”
He gives you a small smile, suddenly seeming nervous.
“What? Is there something else?” You lift up the containers with the lunch Taehyun had prepared for you and feel fabric underneath.
“I packed an outfit for you to change into after work.”
You look up at Taehyun again, confused.
“I wanted to take you on a surprise date after work!” he exclaims. “...only if you want,” he adds shyly.
“Of course it is! I would love that,” you beam happily at him, and he matches your smile.
“Okay good. Just wear that outfit and the rest will be a surprise. I figured we could celebrate our 6 month anniversary a week early.”
You nod eagerly, then start to shoo him out of the bakery.
“We’re about to open, you need to go before my boss sees you! I love you, I’ll see you later.”
Taehyun rushes forward to drop a kiss on your lips and turns to leave, but you reach out and suddenly stop him.
“Did you need something else?”
You shake your head, simply handing him a small paper bag.
He raises his eyebrow in question.
“A pumpkin spice muffin for the road…a muffin for my muffin,” you giggle.
Taehyun rolls his eyes, but you can see the tips of his ears go pink.
“See you later…cupcake.”
October
“I dunno, Taehyun. I feel so…exposed.”
You feel his warm hands wrap around your midriff from the back, landing on your hips. You’ve dressed up for a Halloween party that Yeonjun is throwing, and the crop top and skirt you’re wearing is vastly different than how you’re used to dressing. You’re not the thinnest person in the world, and the skirt is a little shorter than you’d like.
“You look hot,” he murmurs into your neck, squeezing your hips lightly and landing a kiss where his breath had just fanned out. Goosebumps erupt over your skin, and he lets out a small laugh.
You make eye contact through the mirror in front of you, but the intensity of Taehyun’s stare makes you look away. Even with his ridiculous costume, he still gives you butterflies.
“Hey…you do look amazing, I’m not just saying that. I’d be willing to show you later how hot I think you are too, if you want.” One of his hands starts to trail upwards towards your chest while the other works its way towards your backside. Before he can go any further, you elbow him in the stomach.
“Hey, what was that for? Can’t a mad scientist show appreciation for his creation?”
You can’t help giggling as you turn and fully take in his costume. He’s got goggles pushed up on his forehead, hair tousled wildly with a stained lab coat on and makeup creating dark circles under his eyes.
“This rag doll creation appreciates her creator ever so much, but we’ll be late if we don’t leave in the next five minutes…I’ll indulge you in a science lesson later.”
Taehyun pouts at you, but grabs your hand and leads you to the door.
“As long as the lesson’s in anatomy,” he winks.
—-----------------------------------------
The party is massive-pounding music you can feel in your bones, strobe lighting, and lots of booze.
You and Taehyun had done the rounds, finding all your friends and his bandmates, complimenting everyone’s costumes and makeup.
After a couple of hours, Taehyun pulls you to a quieter corner of the party.
“Finally I can hear myself think!” he exclaims, sighing and sliding down the wall to sit.
“Yeah, I was starting to get a headache,” you agree, joining him and placing your head on his shoulder.
You sit there in comfortable silence for a while, listening to the muffled bass and noise of the crowd.
Suddenly, Taehyun lets out a low chuckle.
“What’s funny?”
“I just realized something…something that’s been bugging me for a while now.”
You hum in reply, encouraging him to go on.
“You remember that vision you had on our first date? Where you told me that I would find the one my heart desires, but they wouldn’t be as they seemed?”
You think back to March…it seems so long ago, but also like it was just yesterday.
“Well I don’t exactly remember it, but yeah, what about it?”
“I just realized…it’s been you this whole time.”
You jerk your head off his shoulder to look at him. “What?”
“Yeah…I fell for you pretty quickly.” His cheeks are dusted pink at this admission. “I brushed off your vision because I liked you so much. But I just now realized the vision was about you. You were definitely not what I expected…but now? It’s Halloween. You’re ‘not who you seem’, but it’s on purpose!” He looks at you triumphantly.
As he was talking, you had been running through the past few months in your head as well. “All those visions I had where I couldn’t remember anything about them…it’s because they all were about myself. No wonder I couldn’t remember, it’s textbook fortune teller stuff! They say you can’t ever see your own future, at least not clearly.”
Taehyun looks confused. “Who’s ‘they’?” he asks.
“Oh, my mom also can see visions. And my grandmother too.” Taehyun’s eyes go wide at this and you laugh. “Don’t worry about it, I can explain more later. I’m just really happy.”
“Because you finally know what was going on?”
“I mean, yes…but also because it’s you. At first, I didn’t think much of the vision since we had only been on one date, but as time went on, I fell in love with you. I didn’t want you to find someone else, especially not someone who ‘wasn’t as they seemed’...that just sounded sketchy at best and toxic at worst.”
“Aw, Rae…were you jealous?”
“Maybe a little bit. I wanted you to myself, thanks very much.”
Taehyun smirks at this.
“So what about that anatomy lesson? Do you see that in your future?”
You lean forward, lips hovering over his.
“Maybe it’ll happen, maybe it won’t…I can’t see my own future, remember? A shame, I really do have a thing for mad scientists.”
And with that, your lips connect with his, a searing heat flowing through your body at the contact.
You may not be able to see your own future, but somehow, some way, you know he has a place in it.

You always seemed to be missing a piece of stationery in 5th grade. Every time a lost pencil was replaced by your exasperated mother, there went your ruler the following week. It wasn’t until halfway into the term that you realized it was your plushie-loving deskmate, Kai. His speciality was pickpocketing your array of coloured glitter pens. Those were his favourite. It boiled your blood immensely but your teacher refused to change the seating plan, no matter how much you pleaded.
Between this and his penchant for tearing up pieces of paper to bits, you don’t even know how you and Huening Kai became friends.

⚝word count: 3k
⚝warnings: arranged marriage is discussed, character death (not taehyun or reader), depictions of parental neglect.
⚝synopsis: the blazing love that you and taehyun nurtured in the quiet space of your library meets an unexpected dilemma when he finds out you are engaged to someone else. your relationship with him was already the talk of the town considering taehyun's of a much lower social rank than you. he had his insecurities, but never expected such a betrayal. should he have expected it?

You burst into the library, huffing as you moved through the aisles and made a beeline for Taehyun’s work desk. It was turning out to be a hot day, and the afternoon light filtered through the translucent dome ceiling, bathing the large space in an orange-tinted light. Taehyun looked up from the books strewn across his desk as you approached him, big eyes glimmering as they always did when graced by the sight of you. A welcoming smile stretched across his lips as he stood to greet you; no matter how long you two were together, Taehyun secretly doubted he’d ever get over the giddiness of seeing you.
He had grown used to your fuming form over the past few weeks following the demise of your father. It wasn’t sadness; you didn’t mourn your father for very long– the two of you barely had a real connection. This moodiness had to do with the domino effects of his passing.
Neither of your parents had a sliver of parental care in their body, not a single bone if genuine affection for their own children. You and your siblings were little more than property to them– meant to be paraded as trophies when they needed to impress their peers, and then disregarded once more as soon as you got home. Since you were the first born child in your family, your mother had been pressuring you to become more serious about your impending ascension to a duchess. It was something you’d always detest… being the automatic inheritor of a role you did not want, simply because you were born first.
Your escapes to your library had become more frequent; after every meeting with your mother, you’d come seek solace in your favourite place– and in your favourite person. This library, with its high ceiling and large windows, brought so much light into your life– both literally and metaphorically. Its warm stone walls were your security, and the books within strongly reflected your heart’s desires, opinions and way of thinking. You often fought the temptation to simply lock yourself up in here for days on end, with no one but Taehyun and your handmaiden to know where you had escaped to. The urge was especially at the forefront of your mind on days like this, when your mother’s stern insistency got under your skin and you felt that you were a mere string puppet while other people controlled your life.
Taehyun didn’t pry today, but judging by your behaviour he figured your mother was trying to convince you to do something you didn’t want to.
He guided you towards the bay window behind his desk, the soft strands of his hair tickling your temple as he leaned down to plant a lingering kiss on your cheek. The two of you loved sitting there during your down time. When Taehyun wasn’t working, and you weren’t swamped with your tutoring and duties, the two of you spent hours on end seated at that bay window together. It provided such a clear view of your estate– it’s sprawling fields and the trees that lined the eastern perimeter, acting as a wind breaker to shield your abode from the treacherous winds that sometimes swept over your region.
Taehyun regarded you for a moment before speaking, leaning against the curved wall framing the window as he tried to gauge what the crease of your brow indicated. He was always mindful of how he approached these types of discussions, weighing his potential approaches. It never failed to amaze you how thoughtful and perceptive he could be, particularly now when you were being bogged down by so much pressure.
“Penny for your thoughts, my dear?” he finally asked, sitting beside you and directing your attention towards him. The two of you would both sit with your backs pressed to the walls behind you, and have your legs meeting at the centre of the seat, pressed against each other from the knee downwards. This way, you could hide a sketchbook in your lap and draw your lover without him noticing. Unfortunately for you, Taehyun’s eyes were far too attentive to miss that and you were never very subtle to begin with, but it was a fun game all the same.
It took a moment for you to meet his gaze, to be present in this moment with him rather than worrying about your future. Your mother’s latest ‘suggestion’ had been her most outrageous one yet. It was only a matter of time before the whole ordeal blew up in your face if you didn’t find the will to tell Taehyun about it soon.
For now, you groaned and slumped into his side. “I’d rather not talk about it.”
“That’s alright,” he said easily, gently pulling you to him and wrapping a hand around your form. You curled into him, body now on top of his. You sighed in content as he soothingly ran his hand up and down your arm. “What would you rather?”
“This is enough for now,” you assured him, making yourself comfortable.
This is how life always was with Taehyun. The warmth and consideration your lover held for you overwhelmed you at times. It wrapped around you, so that no matter the season, you were constantly blanketed in its radiant grace.
Taehyun was the son of a viscount who your father, the duke, had a great rapport with. Once Taehyun had completed his schooling, your father convinced him to help your family manage your library. Taehyun was neat, precise and simply meticulous in his work. As you spent most of your time in the vast library, and always had since you were a child, you and Taehyun became fast friends. Your friendship bloomed into more after a nearly a year of playing hide and seek with your feelings for each other. And now– another two years later, the two of you had a solid relationship.
The affair was already scandalous; because the title of a viscount was lower in rank than a duke or duchess, marrying Taehyun would diminish your own social standing. You found yourself caring less and less about that fact every day you spent curled up in your library together, hidden from the world and your impending responsibilities as a duchess. When you were with Taehyun, it was simply you and him– nothing else mattered, no one could access either of you in the sanctuary of that library. You’d purposely made sure no one but your handmaiden accessed the library during your hours there with Taehyun. Your estate had a handful of libraries, and your parents had granted you this one for your personal use. It was named after you, and you often fantasized about a time in your life when you’d be able to switch your last name on the large placard for Taehyun’s.
The two of you were silent for a while, simply enjoying how comfortable that action was in itself. You tried focusing on Taehyun’s ever-steady breathing, on the tune he was absent-mindedly strumming onto your arms with his fingers… but as fate would have it, your worries started to crop up in the corners of your mind, disrupting the calm Taehyun had induced on you.
“Read to me, please,” you mumbled, enjoying the sun outside the window behind you that was warming your back. Taehyun’s voice would be a good distraction to the ones in your head (that sounded a lot like your mother). He chuckled at how your cheek was mushed against his chest, and the way you whined in protest when he got up to fulfill your request. Although it took a while for him to learn how to initiate physical contact, Taehyun loved when your body so naturally gravitated towards his. It made him feel needed.
The book he chose was embroidered with reeds harvested from the stream nearby, strands dyed a deep, regal blue. Its edges were bound and plaited so intricately one would not have to read its contents to regard the book as art. Taehyun opened it to where his bookmark lay and began to read.
Taehyun’s soft voice breezed through most of your tension, but you were only half listening– distracted by the anxiousness gnawing at your insides. There was something you needed to tell him, but you kept procrastinating having that conversation.
You were engaged.
When you’d met Taehyun, the process of your engagement was already underway. However– in a rare bout of graciousness– your parents had let you delay its announcement for another year or two. You were still young, and had a few years left before people started to question the lack of a ring on your finger. You didn’t particularly mind your fiancé. He was amiable, which worked for you. And– as your mother kept reminding you– he came from an incredibly wealthy family, which worked for your reputation.
But you did not love him. You’d never been in love, but you had half a mind to know when you weren’t. Your parents tried convincing you that love came with time, but if their relationship was anything to go by… you were better off alone.
Taehyun had been a godsend. At first, his cordialness seemed cold; always polite but never making the first move. You later realized that this was how your lover expressed shyness. Since the both of you opened up about your feelings, Taehyun had been nothing but loving– always greeting you with a new book recommendation you already knew you’d love, and arranging platters of fruit for you by himself when you woke up early to attend to your commitments.
He more or less lived at your house– what with all the work he had– and for that reason, although he’d never formally courted you, most of your employees knew of your relationship. You’d managed to keep it on a need-to-know basis with your parents, who approved of Taehyun, sure, but did not want such a union between you two to ruin their reputation. Gossip would one day be the end of your duchy, you were sure of it.
Ignoring the dilemma didn’t exist– and instead lazing about with your lover like this– was far less intense.
Your thoughts wandered back to the present when Taehyun began to read a familiar poem. Your ears perked up at that, because it was one of your favorites. You noticed he’d altered the words a little to better fit his emotions; Taehyun loved doing that with poems he liked.
“A rendition of a poem by Abel Tesfaye,” he said, plopping the book down softly. He knew that was your favourite poet, and smiled at the slight lift in your mood once he’d finished.
“Thank you,” you giggled, pressing a kiss to his cheek. “When did you work on that one?”
“Yesterday,” he shrugged, laughing softly. “While you dozed off.”
“I did not,” you protested, stifling your laughs as you got off him and fixed him with a faux glare.
Taehyun loved poking fun at your inability to stay up late. You’d been with him in the library late last night, having convinced your handmaiden to arrange dinner there for the two of you. As you sat at your bay window you ended up falling asleep to the sound of pen scratching against paper and Taehyun’s soft humming as he wrote away.
“Ah, my mistake. You must have simply been resting your eyes,” he teased.
Once your laughter had subsided, Taehyun shifted his position so that he was sitting upright beside you. “Care to tell me what’s on your mind now, my dear?”
“Oh, you know…” you stalled, tracing the patterns of your dress. “Just thinking about our future.”
“What about it?” he asked. “Has your mother proposed that we wed in a barn?”
“It’s not that…” you giggled nervously. “If we get married-”
“When,” he corrected softly with a chuckle.
“Okay, when,” you conceded, and the dread that filled your eyes somehow went unnoticed by him. “When we get married, we’ll obviously hold the wedding in here.”
“I’d like that as well,” he grinned, eyes big and adoring. “In the place where our love has grown to unimaginable heights.”
“Oh, Tyun...” you said, eyes welling with tears– and not the good kind. It was high time you told him what had been bothering you these past few weeks. “I- Yes I’d love to, but…”
His beaming smile faltered at the ‘but’.
“What’s the matter…? Is it about courtship? I’ll be formally asking your mother for your hand, don’t you worry about that.”
He knew how your parents felt about your relationship with him. They had nothing against Taehyun, but his title was far too low for them to take pride in. It was all about pride with them. Your mother couldn’t outright oppose it, as there was nothing illegal or inherently wrong about the union, but she made… comments.
“No, no,” you said shakily, turning away from him and facing the window to give you courage. He stood up, concern clouding his features as he put a reassuring hand on your shoulder.
“Actually, Taehyun, the thing is…” you started nervously. “I’m engaged.”
His face fell, the colour draining from it almost instantly. He stumbled backwards, disbelief evident on his features.
“Enga- what? But how?” He whispered. His usually strong and steady voice was faint.
You fumbled over your words, not daring to face your lover, who’s chest rose and fell rapidly with the impact of the confession. “My parents- They had this all arranged… I tried delaying it and I still can, b-but yes… my mother’s been processing my engagement.”
“What do you mean you’re engaged?” Taehyun shouted, shaking with the force of it. He rarely shouted and it made you recoil.
“Taehyun, listen I-”
“All this time, you’ve belonged to someone else?” He asked, breathless from the exertion of shouting. This was not the news he was expecting, so close to the day he was planning on formally proposing to you. He’d made so many plans, and his dream of being yours for the rest of his days was crumbling right before his eyes.
“I still have time to change this, don’t you see?” You tried reasoning, turning to face him. “Taehyun, I’ve been under so much pressure trying to fight this alone.”
The auburn-haired boy scoffed and turned away from you. “But why didn’t you say anything? Why play with me like this?”
You reached out for him but he moved away, his eyes a medley of anger and anguish.
“I’m not playing with you, Taehyun. I didn’t mention it because it’s not yet official. I can fix this, marry you instead,” you said, walking up to him and placing a hand on his shoulder.
He shrugged it off, walking to his desk and busying himself with the books laying there to give himself something to do.
“Taehyun, you know I love you,” you said firmly, placing your hand on his back.
“I have no doubt about that, my dear,” he sighed and turned around, finally letting your reasoning seep through his initial shock. It was a silly little thought… to think you would love anyone but him. Yet his doubts still lingered. “It’s just that…”
“What is it?” you asked, frowning. If he believed you and understood then what was the problem?
“Your fiancé, he is of a higher ranking than I, correct?”
“I- well, yes,” you said, taken aback by his question. “But Taehyun, it doesn’t matter. Being a viscountess isn’t half bad, you know. It’ll mean less work. My younger sister can be duchess instead, heaven knows she’d absolutely love that.”
You tried to make a joke of it, as you often did when being weighed down by serious situations. Taehyun found the habit endearing. He turned to face you once more, finding himself laughing as he cupped your face in his hands.
“I suppose I don’t want to lose my spot in your heart,” he said dejectedly. “Simply because of my title…”
“You know I couldn’t care less about those stupid rules,” you added, dismissing his worries with a wave of your hand. “The hard part is over, I hadn’t figured out how I was going to tell you. Now that you know we can work on this together.”
He called you by your full name, a teasing habit he’d adopted during his love confessions that he presented through the poems and songs he wrote. “I’m with you every step of the way.”
Taehyun unexpectedly leaned in then, placing a chaste kiss to your lips. He usually would draw out your anticipation, staring deep into your eyes and letting your breathes mingle before he finally sealed the gap. His lips pressed against yours in a manner that indicated his fear of losing you. Yours, in turn, sealed his with reassurance.
“I won’t let my mother separate us,” you said determinedly once the two of you had broken apart.
“How about…” he said thoughtfully. “My dear, why don’t you take up your rightful place as duchess. That way, you can make that decision and every other one for yourself.”
Taehyun was tired of seeing you being pulled this way and that based on other people’s whims. It was time you took control of your own life… from the hands of people who had no regard for it.
“I’ll be right by your side,” he promised. “Take back your life. You’d be surprised to know how many people would be on your side.”
Having been up and down these halls for a while, Taehyun knew your estate’s gossip better than you ever would; he was a confidant to most, and knew that a lot of people here would be happier if someone like you took over its management.
“You’ve always had the best ideas,” you smiled, reconsidering your view of what your life as a duchess could hold if the tables were turned and you found a way to get out of being your mother’s puppet.
“Did you ever doubt that?” he teased, abruptly hooking his arms under yours and spinning you around. You squealed in laughter and the sound made his heart soar.
For as long as you’d have him, Taehyun vowed to himself that he’d keep you close and out of harm’s way. The two of you could spend forever like this; two sides of one coin… Or better, to sides of the same page in a book that one treasures for years to come.

When another guy flirts with you
TxT x Reader
(a/n: This is specifically based on this interview. This has been sitting in my draft for ages, finally I completed it.)
Yeonjun
He is an impatient guy, specially when it comes to you, but he's not stupid. He knows well enough that you could handle any situation well on your own. But did it irritate him to the bone to find that the guy that's been trying to flirt with you all night, even after you telling him she was taken tried to make moves. And that was it, he'd rush to your side hitting a punch square at the guy's jaw. With an apologetic last look he'd hold your hand and walk away.
Soobin
Soobin is generally a calm guy, he is. He is also a very thoughtful and considerate guy but that all flew out of the window the moment he saw a guy flirting with you. The sign of disgust on your face was evident and he felt proud of himself. But, he would get really pissed at the persistency of the guy so bring the competitive guy he is, he'll take is best resort. He will rush to you and hug you from behind while landing a kiss on your cheek. That was enough to show that you're his.
Beomgyu
This guy is completely spontaneous. He won't leave your side for much long. So he'd be really pissed to find that the moment he left you were cornered by a hyena. Of course you were pretty but everyone knew you were with him, then hiw the hell can anybody dare to hit on you. He would be seething on fire especially to see how you were disregarding the guy's advances, but he kept on pestering you. He'd rush to your side and punch the guy directly with a "Take that you hyena. This is what you deserve when you hit on somebody's girl"
Taehyun
Now Taehyun has a lot of patience, he does, but lord forbid if he finds someone flirting with you. He would be quick to drop whatever he was doing previously. He knows you didn't give a fuck about anyone else and you love him but it still infuriated him. He would be mad pissed to a level where he'd physically walk close to you and give the person a look which warned them to back the fuck off.
Heuning-Kai
He is a calm mf, he really is. He would notice from afar if someone is eyeing you, but he wont do anything. If someone were to come up to you to flirt though he'd surely give them a stare. He would calmly corner the person alone and tell them that you were his and he doesn't like the person lurking around you. He would sure talk to you first to make sure if he read the signs right though. But he would be feeling a little self conscious after that, so you would have to give him kisses and assure him that you only have eyes for him.

YEONJUN
I really don't think he'd care considering he's pretty fluent in English. He would definitely like to learn things about your culture, traditions, etc that you do and would love to be more educated on it. Talking and communicating wouldn't be a problem at all although I think he'd be so touched and feel so loved if you tried and learn korean for him, even if it's just the basics or some sentences. Literal heart eyes dude w/ the fondest smile. I think he's interested in visiting your home town and places you love. hes very sweet and open minded.
SOOBIN
I feel like he also wouldn't care too much but would prefer if you knew some Korean but wouldn't really bother him too much if you didn't. I can see him being fascinated by some foods or other things that you eat or watch that isn't really where he grew up and is so interested, resulting in him asking lots of questions. He tries to be respectful too if you have a religion or a tradition so he's definitely educated more on things. He hates when you or him get judgmental stares because you're an american / foreigner.
BEOMGYU
I don't think he prefers it but I don't think he'd be against trying it or wouldn't fall for one. You probably would have to give him some lessons more so on pronunciations rather than English itself but only if he asks, he sometimes do. I think he'd forget sometimes you're a foreigner so when you don't understand sum he's like ???? ...ohhhhh lemme explain, lol. But he doesn't really act differently with you tbh, would definitely offer teaching you Korean a lot though lol. Definitely isn't embarrassing by you being a foreigner though.
TAEHYUN
I think he wouldn't care too much, maybe not his preference but I don't think he'd judge, he's the sweetest dude. Very open minded. I think he'd be nervous asf to meet your family or friends because even tho he's good In English I feel like he doesn't want to say anything bad???? Or worried about his pronunciation. Obviously not, but he just wants to be approved and be able to be with you still. He also wishes to take you places you've never been before that he loves or used to go to all the time when he was younger and meeting his family and friends. Idk he's just the cutest.
HUENINGKAI
Would definitely want to eat food and snacks and go places where you went too a lot as a kid or really liked and just walk and have a good time together. He would love to do the same with his home town and take you there to show you different things he also grew up with. You're definitely meeting his family too but family is very important to him and they're very accepting of you. I js think bc he's also half American he's very accepting and is just happy to be with you.
