Poem: Temperance
Time seems to slip past me today,
Despite my attempts to not let it
Go to waste. There comes a point
Where there is so much to get done
That the rise and fall of the sun
Seems to be mocking me. Maybe
When the moon rises and raises
The tide to reach my toes, I’ll find
A kind of peace without pressure,
A kind of calm without calamity,
The temperance to not waste time.

modern day shakespeare adaptions that should exist
southern gothic macbeth. the bloody, brutal themes of the play in the suffocating atmosphere of the genre. the imagery of lady macbeth’s hands dripping with blood! the witches! macbeth’s madness when he believes the swamp has actually come to life to kill him! it’s like it was made for this play
political othello. make him secretary of defense or state. imagine a house of cards like environment. addresses issues of current racism and misogyny in politics, and Iago’s jealous/obsessive love for Othello with very clear homo-erotic undertones. like extremely explicit and how that translates in such a masculine setting to understand Iago’s intent.
police hamlet. hamlet senior as the deputy in nyc. his mysterious death draws his son home from stanford/harvard/what-have-you. a modern day noir-like detective mystery. emphasis on ophelia’s depression and subsequent decent into madness by popping too many pills. the way the “respectful” upper-class tear themselves apart splashed all across the media.

He merges with the Divine and acquires peace that comes from surrender and trust. The realizations that he has achieved here will stay with him forever and cannot be unlearned.

The time is finally here. It has been building for a while, but it's really happening: the arrival and death of something significant. A spectral being assumes form and stares directly into your eyes. A cold silence descends as you stare back at her, knowing and accepting the inevitable. Though it seems imperceptible now, there will be new life. Things will be lost, sacrificed, and exposed, but you must embrace this purification from her fully, for a new future awaits you.

We often look at options from an either/or perspective, but Temperance invites us to consider that all things are possible, even when they appear to be at odds. Life is not static, and neither are our needs—they vary across a lifetime and across each situation. Through listening and awareness, she reveals what your soul truly needs, not just what your ego wants. It's not as complicated as you make it. If you can put aside your perceptions and impatience aside, then you can create space for alchemy.

The forces in life that genuinely move us forward are not always black and white. They are complex and powered by fearsome and sometimes dangerous energy. The Devil is not about evil, but it represents the forces of desire, indulgence, and abandon—natural qualities that flow in both directions, resulting in either growth and freedom, or bondage and addiction. The solution is extreme honesty with yourself and an assessment of what is actually needed.
Thanos
This figure in the Major Arcana who thinks of himself as an impenetrable Tower shall soon find himself crumbling swiftly beneath the weight of his hubris and ostentation. The Tower has grown ugly, complicated, and beyond utility; an insult to the balanced being that he once was. The change and unexpected devastation that he shall bring, though necessary, is often painful and his influence will be felt for a very long time.

Temperance
“Being forced to work and forced to do your best will breed in you temperance and self-control, diligence and strength of will, cheerfulness and content, and a hundred virtues the idle will never know.” Jet recited thoughtfully as he stood over Spike’s sprawled form on the couch.
Spike, one arm still slung over his eyes, groaned. “Spare me the proverbs or whatever, Jet. Besides, you think I need more strength of will? Give me a break.”
“I think you could benefit from applying temperance to your drinking habits and calling on self-control when chasing a bounty couldn’t do any harm either.” The other man replied.
“As a man who enjoys being idle, I’ll have you know I’m plenty content and cheerful.” Spike grumbled.
Jet eyed him critically. “Your skin tone tells me you’re an alcoholic. Your lethargy tells me you’re depressed. And your attitude tells me you know these things but can’t be bothered to care.”
Spike sighed. “Seems we’re at a bit of an impasse then doesn’t it.”
“Look, I’m upset the girls are gone too, but you don’t see me crawling into the bottom of a bottle about it.” Instead, Jet was still consistently making more for meals than either man could comfortably eat. Some small part of him was convinced that they’d come back if they only knew that there were still places for them on the ship.
“Let’s try a page out of my book. You could use a drink yourself, you know.” Spike muttered. “Where are we anyway?”
Jet grunted. “Tharsis.”
Spike dragged his arm off his face to glare at the other man. “I don’t make you go to Ganymede. Why would you make me go here?”
“This crater is teeming with bounties. I figure… we can drink away our sorrows tonight and then get to work tomorrow. Besides, you weren’t exactly giving me any suggestions for places to go and with Big Shot off the air… anyway, Bob’s got a list for me that should get us sitting pretty.”
Sighing, Spike sat up. “This place is rotten, Jet. If you thought nothing good comes from Earth… well, you haven’t seen the shit that comes from Tharsis.” He glowered at the tabletop. “I don’t like this, Jet. Don’t like it at all.”
“No one’s asking you to. Now, are we gonna go drink or what?”
