i don't usually make posts like this, but this is a truly upsetting topic to me as a lifelong cat owner, so i feel i have a duty to share my knowledge with others.
there is a type of automatic litterbox for cats being sold that is EXTREMELY dangerous and has killed numerous cats through blunt force trauma, suffocation, etc. this litterbox is being sold under different brand names and logos, so i will include the picture of the model and two links to informational videos with more evidence and eloquence than i am able to provide.
please consider not having this type of litterbox in your home for your furry friends. me and my 16 year old tortie, puddy, want the best for all your kitty friends

YOUR PET CAN DONATE BLOOD TOO
If you're not yet aware, just like humans, animals are always in need of blood donations. Unlike humans there's less of an awareness of the need for donating blood for dogs and cats, which is why a lot of animals suffer unnecessarily** or the treatment they need is sorely delayed.
Criteria for donating will differ depending on which organisation/practice you're donating through and where you live, but generally if your pet:
Has no transmittable diseases.
Is under 8-10 years old.
Is in a healthy weight bracket.
Is able to be handled at the practice without sedation.
Then your pet can donate blood!
Its an incredibly easy process and your pet can even register to be a standby donor for emergencies. Your pet can also register with animal charities who operate with their own veterinary facilities to be a direct donor.
If you do have a healthy, friendly cat or dog, please consider researching how they can donate blood and save the life of someone else's best friend.

**The biggest supplier of animal blood used for veterinary practises comes from blood farms. While there are many legitimate, humane blood farms there are many who subject the dogs and cats used to appalling conditions and treatment. If there are enough voluntary donations to provide a steady blood reserve, there's an opportunity to decrease the need for blood farms and push for the closure of those who inhumanely handle the animals in their care.

Some assholes have been putting nails in cheese and treats in dog parks in Chicago and Massachusetts. Also adding antifreeze to water bowls.

Ok I need to scream into the void rq. I hate when I try to find a cute/funny rat picture for my various reasons and google images shows me pictures of horrific animal abuse. Like genuinely what the fuck. I’m not gonna give any real examples for obvious reasons but it’ll be like I google “silly rat” and I’ll see a pic of a rat in a saw trap from an article “silly rat got caught” or some shit. I wish death and pain on every single animal abuser and I’m not being hyperbolic with that.

hes calm, naturally. Jade keeps you close at his side when others are around, but you are allowed to roam as you please as long as no other students are close by.
you sit, slung around Jade's shoulders. his tall and broad frame allowing you a comfortable perch above most other students. he doesn't seam to mind, your fur is soft on his neck and face as you observe.
he does tisk at you when you attempt to bat at his earring. your claws are sharp and its a sensitive area for merfolk. so hes quick to either remove you or switch you to the other side.
Jade adapts quickly to you as his now side kick. your small frame is useful to him when it comes to investigating students, or even retrieving mushrooms.
he does so like the cute little sounds you make as well. who knew common domesticated cats were so vocal? its quite charming to him.
decided to pick up a book on domestic cats hes curious to learn your vocalizations and meows and why they're always directed at him.
"do you see me as a kitten?" he ponders as you rest on his shoulders.
you respond with a little "puurrum" before nuzzling into his neck. your affection for him had sky rocketed in this form, often attempting to groom him or kneading your small paws on him.
"im much bigger than you now, could make you into a tasty meal if I wanted to~" Jade wrapped your tail around his fingers before brining it to his mouth.
his sharp teeth rested on the appendage, curious to see your reaction. you let out a "hmmmph" before placing a paw on his nose.
Jade chuckled, releasing your tail and gently removing your paw.
"cute~" he cooed softly.
Floyd
Jade and Azul are very carful to keep Floyd away from small, cute, soft things. as the first time the merman saw a hamster be proceeded to squeeze the little thing until it promptly popped like an overripe grape.
"but I wanna see Shrimpy!" Floyd whined loudly, trying to duck passed his brother to where Azul had hidden you in the VIP room.
"they were turned into a cat Floyd, please wait until the spell has been reversed." Jade tried to reason with his brother, holding Floyd by the shoulders.
"but Shrimpy must be hurt if they got transformed! lemme see 'em so I can give them a squeeze and make 'em feel better~" Jade realized Floyd would not relent, decided it was better to let him see you supervised rather than sneak in alone with you later.
the calmer twin let out a sigh, finally stepping aside and letting Floyd barrel into the room.
"Shrimpy!" he squealed, mismatched eyes falling to your form on the couch. Floyd fell to his knees beside where you lay, resting his head on his arms.
Jade watched closely, prepared to drag Floyd away if he made a move to grab you. you stretched out your head, sniffing at Floyd's hair. the merman giggled as you inched closer and closer.
in the blink of an eye you were snatched up in Floyds arms and Jade bolted forward. you let out a confused "muurp?" at the change of position.
"oh Shrimpy! you're even cuter and even smaller now~" Floyd' cooed, rubbing his face in your fur. Jade placed his hand on Floyd's arm, ready to tug you away.
the elder twin was shocked to see no fear in your eyes as you continued to lick and groom at the merman's hair, much to his joy.
"its gunna be okay now Shrimpy, I'll protect you. promise~" you let out a purr as Floyd cradled you closer, looking up at Jade with pure joy in his eyes.

if i may add onto this: all wild animals are dangerous to be around due to diseases. A deer can be just as dangerous as a pigeon if not more because of tics and other googlies they picked up in nature. Judging an animal on that alone is just... dumb. No animal is inherently dangerous to be around in terms of disease, like humans, it depends on what they were exposed to and their environment. You don't mess with wildlife because the animal itself is dangerous, but the fact you don't know where that animal has been in. this is not the animals fault. Second: as an owner of a rescue African grey parrot, i agree. Parrots should have never become pets. my poor bird came from an abusive household where he was beat and left in a cage for days on end. when i got him, his chest was blood red because the poor thing was feather plucking. he takes a lot of time and energy to take care of, and people do not realize that these birds are not like what you see on YouTube. they are loud and can be moody and once they learn a word/sound they will NEVER stop saying it. ever. They require constant mental stimulation and their diets are VERY DELICATE to the point that improperly feeding them could kill them easily. I have had him for nearly 17 years now, and he still struggles with mental health issues. If I had my way he would be in the wild, not living in my house, but sadly I can't EVER release him into the wild or he will die due to his circumstances. at least pigeons were domesticated, but parrots are literally wild animals we poached and bred for entertainment. Most parrots are abused because people treat parrots like they treat a pet goldfish you would win at a carnival (which is equally is bad imo) DO NOT BUY A BIRD FROM A PET STORE OR A BREEDER. Please just go to your local shelter and volunteer as an assist. I don't even recommend adopting because it takes a lot of commitment and patience to LIVE with them let alone take care of them. TLDR: disease comes from all wild animals not just rats and pigeons, and Parrots are one of the most abused creatures in the pet industry and you should never buy one.
Don’t hate me but I really believe the world would be a better place if pigeons were the ubiquitous avian pet instead of parrots 👀

So our friends have this piss-poorly-bred corgi puppy that's almost a year old now, and they're fucking r u i n i n g this dog dude. She literally bites them and draws blood almost daily to the point that they wear fucking *bite gloves* to hook and unhook her leash and do any kind of grooming. She literally *begs* for water and will sit and *violently* lick ice until it's completely gone, and will lick the water from the shower off the floor, but they restrict her water access because she will apparently drink until she throws up??? And supposedly their vet said this is "fine" as long as they give her "enough water"??? I have no idea if they've even done any diagnostics!!! The dog is probably fucking diabetic!!! And now they're using a shock collar whenever she barks or is being "crazy" or "a brat." But "oH nO iT dOeSn'T sHoCk iT jUsT sTiMs" - if it wasn't aversive it wouldn't fucking do anything!!!!! And this poor dog is already afraid of her own shadow!!!!! I've made the decision not to insert myself unless they ask for help but holy hell I feel like this poor dog is absolutely doomed. It's gonna fucking bite someone for real someday and be put down because they did not prepare at all to have a dog and have no fucking idea what they're doing. I'm trying so hard to mind my own business but it pisses me tf off!!!!!
Update on the friends' dog situation, with a sort-of maybe positive ending!!!!!!

So we went over there to play DnD for the first time in forever and honestly the situation is genuinely desperate. Like, this dog was fucking full-on Cujo snarling when they messed with the clips on her crate, and in response to that they "corrected" her with her "vibration" collar, which she visibly recoiled from. 🙃 At one point she was just regular growling in the crate - I don't even remember why - and they kept "correcting" her over and over again. I literally had to stop looking at any of them because it was making me fucking nauseous to watch.
But later on, when the dog was out of the crate and honestly acting pretty fine overall, she was standing on the couch next to my partner and he reached over her or something (I wasn't looking at them) and all of a sudden she completely flipped her shit and went into this full-on snarling snapping panic. I think her teeth made contact with his hand, but she didn't break skin and it didn't seem like she was trying to bite, just panicking. (I will say that he does not have a good sense for when he's accidentally overwhelming or intimidating an animal, and tends to sort of "trap" them unintentionally with his body language, so I have a feeling that's what happened. Still, a huge overreaction from a dog with an obviously very fried nervous system.) So of course, both of the humans immediately started screaming at her to go in her crate and zapping her with the collar, just generally freaking her out even worse. She did go right back in her crate, thank fucking god, and they finally left her alone for a blessed "time out."
Now the positive twist of this whole horrific story is that after this, they started lamenting what a "brat" and a "terror" she is, and at one point the girl finally fucking asked me for advice!!!!!!!!! 🎉🍾🥂🎇
Now I was so excited for this opportunity and I tried so hard to be SO fucking nice and understanding and not chew their heads off, because I could not waste this precious opportunity!!! I explained that by punishing the dog every time she expresses that she's uncomfortable (e.g. growling), they will teach her to start skipping the warning and going straight to what gets results - y'know, like having full-blown panic freakouts when someone leans over her too far on the couch, or snarling like a hyena when you touch her crate latch!!! Because you're not helping her calm down or be less scared, you're just forcing her to shut the fuck up or else!!! AND THE GIRL UNDERSTOOD!!!!!! She actually said "yeah, that makes sense"!!!! AAAAAAHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!
And I tried to explain how the dog probably feels like she has zero control or autonomy in her whole entire life because they do nothing but give her orders like a fucking US Marine, so of course as soon as she starts "behaving" with one thing she starts "being a brat" about something else!!!! Because they bought a fucking backyard bred high-energy working breed puppy for their one-bedroom apartment, and they're treating her like Hannibal Lecter so yeah duh she's gonna go buttfuck insane!!!!!
I can't 100% blame them, because they paid all this money for a "professional" trainer who's apparently an authoritarian piece of shit, so like, they think they're doing what they're supposed to do. I tried to encourage them to find an actual qualified trainer, but idk if that'll happen. If only because they don't know what the fuck they're looking for and apparently have no interest in doing the research for themselves. But they at least seemed to agree it would be a good idea to have someone come to their house to help them, instead of sending her back to the shock collar asshole for a board-and-train, which would probably fuck her up even more irreparably.
But seeing the fucking dots connecting in the girl's brain when I explained the growling thing was genuinely such a relief it was almost like a high lmao. Because I think that's the thing that really would've fucked up this dog beyond saving. Whatever other trauma they cause her can at least be worked on, but she's already way too willing to bite and it's almost impossible to re-teach a dog to growl once it's been totally punished out of them.
I'm honestly so proud of myself for explaining it in a way that 1. got through to them and 2. didn't piss them off or make them cry. There's still so much fucked up shit going on, but I actually feel like maybe I made a difference and oh my god I'm so relieved!!!!
