Putin has history books rewritten for schools and universities. Ted Cruz has books banned in schools.
Fathers of an idea who ultimately do not differ in their view of society. Neither of them wants responsible, enlightened, self-determined citizens.
mod
When books are banned or history books are rewritten, the approach is never to protect the citizens but only to preserve the power of individuals.
Wherever they burn books they will also, in the end, burn human beings.
Heinrich Heine
Education is the friend of propaganda. Anyone who can think for themselves and can form an overall picture based on different facts from different sources is unfortunately useless for populist propaganda.
Just ask the British what happened to the oh-so-much money they supposedly had to pay to the EU after they went through with brexit.
Oh, the money didn't exist and the bus with the cool print was just propaganda from the brexit supporters.
mod

However, there was a problem with this fact: it was patently untrue. Technically, the UK paid a gross £19.1bn into the EU budget in 2014, which equates to just over £350m a week. But thanks to Margaret Thatcher's hard-nosed negotiating skills in the 1980s, the country also receives a huge rebate of around £4.9bn, which never leaves Her Majesty's Treasury. The British also benefit from billions in various EU subsidies to the public sector. Add it all up and the UK's net contribution is around £9.9bn, just over half the amount touted by Brexit supporters. The total drops even further if you include things like the research funding the EU provides to UK universities.
You could have read about it in various sources, including books, but what the heck, gut feelings and felt facts are cooler!
There's a really clever saying: those who can read have a clear advantage.

This is what equality looks like!
Taiwan has nothing to do with China, it is not China because it is a democracy.
No matter what XI pulls out of its hair as a historical justification on the basis of such claims, Europe would still be Roman.
mod
For a free and democratic Taiwan, let the other democracies realize that they can only stand together against the dictatorships.
China is overestimated and overestimates itself and that is exactly the point where it will tip over without outside influences. The Chinese youth have been given the promise that if they study they can practice what they have studied. Somehow apolitical, but not if the promise cannot be kept by the Communist Party XI. There are already measures on the part of the CP to bring all these unemployed academics who are supported by their parents to the countryside to work in inadequate jobs. These are still only measures and not coercive measures, but that can change at any time.
If parents are no longer able to support their children, dissatisfaction will increase, to the detriment of the CP. Many young people in China are seeking internal migration and thus a new sense of purpose, as the Communist Party's promise of prosperity and a future has not been fulfilled for them. The party is currently allowing this to happen without intervention, but if they realize the potential and impact it may have on the future of the CP's existence, violence will follow. What they do to other parts of the population, they will do to the youth and put them in re-education camps. So China has a huge problem because their promise that the fate of the party is linked to the prosperity of the people will be broken.
In addition, government spending is immense, not only for the gigantic army but also for all the infrastructure projects that were not necessary. In addition to the environmental problems such as clean air or water.
China is a giant with feet of clay.
mod
That is its weakness, no matter how puffed up it is in relation to the West.
President Tsai Ing-wen of Taiwan thanks drag queen Nymphia Wind for a great performance
DW reports that Taiwanese drag queen Nymphia Wind (妮妃雅‧瘋) and winner of the TV series “RuPaul’s Drag Race” has performed a medley of songs for outgoing President Tsai Ing-wen, thanking her for being the island’s “mother.”
As you can see from the video, the President enjoyed the performance very much. The president is clearly a strong supporter of the queer and trans communities.

The university management's fear of freedom of expression.
mod
Question of injustice in the context of a book in front of students is probably against the paying students from Islamic countries? Or is it simply an attitude of those with no backbone?

There's really nothing more to say, it's funny that Orwell's 1984 hasn't been banned yet.
mod

Beware of books by people who forbid books. There was once a book that contained everything, and after the catastrophe nobody wanted to read it.
So read, understand and resist!

Learn from yesterday, live for today, hope for tomorrow. The important thing is not to stop questioning.

Wherever they burn books they will also, in the end, burn human beings.

In a nutshell, but what about the perceived truth or alternative facts? I say bullshit to that.
mod
There are metrics that show who benefits when the Trump cult is in power, and these numbers and facts show that nothing has happened to the prosperity of the entire nation when the Republicans are in power, whether as president or in the states.
It is also a fact that education helps against professional propaganda and the creation of fear scenarios.
Those who can read simply have an advantage.

Only the uneducated can be sold hate for politics, division for equality and perceived facts for truths.

Political chaos is connected with the decay of language... one can probably bring about some improvement by starting at the verbal end.

Oops i forgot to update. It was pretty easy! First you send an email saying you’re interested (don’t bother going into detail about why you want one, they don’t care yet). Then they’ll email back asking you about your banned book situation so just look up what’s banned in schools in your state and say that. Then you’re in! This comes with audiobooks, scanned copies, and even movies! Worth it.
Oh, and if you’re not a teenager anymore just lie. Literally no one gets hurt by you reading a book. I just turned 20 so I said I was born two years earlier just to be safe.
