The urge to interview people is so strong because I'm trying to do research, but that's so much reading, I just wanna have a conversation. I was already well aware of the fucking insane standards behind aging and beauty but this made me realize something: so few people understand just how much of a blessing it is that all these rockstars and musicians are aging. Not to get all sappy and depressive on main, but there are so many wonderful, talented people who- whether it be via their own actions or through the actions of others- don’t get to live the full and complete life that Rammstein and many others get to experience. Cliff Burton, Pelle Ohlin, and many many others by some means have lost their lives too young and haven’t gotten to experience the full lives they deserved. We desperately need to demolish the idea that age is ugly. It’s not just rude, but actively harmful.

Anyone else think Aziraphale, since at least the 1941 stuff, has been hoping Crowley would be the first to make a move because he’s too scared to? And not because of feeling denial, even though that’s probably a factor too, but because he knows if he was caught, he’d be screwed. But if Crowley initiated it? Well that’s not his fault! He’s just an innocent widdle angel (heavy sarcasm, I physically cringed writing that) and the demon manipulated him or whatever. This is my explanation for the “…something I could do for you in return?” thing because that felt like flirting with plausible deniability. He could mean those kind of favors, but he could just as easily mean giving Crowley a helping hand in some problem he’s dealing with. To me, it felt like Aziraphale was hoping Crowley would advance the conversation in that direction instead of him making a direct advance. He kept it indirect because of that plausible deniability; we know he’s really nervous about the notion of people believing he and Crowley are an item considering his reaction to Shax telling him of the rumor.

Is that because there’s a certain something in the 1940s we haven’t seen yet, but a demon may have caught a glimpse of? Something more than being seen on stage together or sharing a bottle of wine?

Oh, I have absolutely no idea. The rumor could’ve been as simple as Furfur continuing to insist he wasn’t lying and they were conspiring against Hell or Heaven or both. But I feel like there’s a piece missing in the rumor pie here because Furfur never mentioned seeing them as an item, just that they were consorting…

This got off topic. Point is, I think Aziraphale is the one that’s been making moves for a while; not because he’s willing to directly admit feelings, but because he’s hoping Crowley will pick up what he’s putting down and do something with it. He can then put distance between whatever happened between them and his involvement because it wasn’t technically initiated by him. Unfortunately for him, Crowley is dense, just as awkward about his feelings as Aziraphale, and his mind did not immediately go to favors when Aziraphale offered to do “something” in return for saving his books. He assumed the angel meant buying him lunch or something silly like that and got defensive over the “…very nice thing for you to do,” comment (sorry if I’m misquoting slightly).

Also, just to be clear, I don’t think Aziraphale has in mind that Crowley would actually be taking advantage of him. I don’t think he views Crowley as that type of demon, or person in general. But we do know Aziraphale thinks Crowley is way cooler and more confident than he actually is (sorry) given how he portrayed him during the appearance swap. So, I think it’s more of a “I’m going to subtly hint the possibility of wanting to do this so you’ll go for it” kind of thing? If anyone asks, it either didn’t happen or wasn’t intentional on his part. You know how demons are!

But, no, actually, Aziraphale is the hornier one of the two. He definitely is, and that’s very funny to me. Full respect to the ace headcanon, but out of all the couples in this show I think they’re the second least likely to be ace/ace adjacent (behind the two we literally saw screw on screen, lol) because I see tension between them that I don’t see with any other couple. If you want an ace version of this interpretation, he was indirectly offering Crowley a kiss instead of a vague sexual favor. So, it still works there, I’m just not on the ace headcanon train (With these two, at least! Currently writing an ace Nina and Maggie and queer platonic Gabriel and Beelzebub, so it’s not because I dislike ace rep).

TL;DR — Aziraphale doesn’t want to be forward because of religious trauma and Crowley is a dense mfer
