Poem: Tactless
Little is my love for you lately,
Knowing where you’ve been
And all that you’ve seen
Without a fraction of thought
For what it all might mean
When you recount it to me.

Poem: I didn’t mean to miss you
I didn’t mean to think of you;
I didn’t mean to write –
I didn’t mean to miss you, and
I didn’t mean to cry tonight.

Poem: Thoughts about Thoughts of You
I watched the sun rise
On my own and didn’t
Think of how sweet it’d
Be to spend that time
With you, but then, does
Thinking about me not
Thinking of you count
As a disguised means
Of missing you again?

Poem: About Missing You
I binged on writing again, maybe
Because I may have missed you, or
Maybe because our time together
Was so meaningfully spent that I
Seem to see pieces of you around
My world, like in stores that sell
Your favorite brands, or in songs that
You liked to sing too loudly, carefree,
Or even in between the lines of my own
Poems on lonely days like these.

Poem: Watching Paint Dry
She liked to think that you
Were looking for a love
Like hers, a love that
Badly serenaded you
In the car to the tune
Of your old radio, a love
That gave you chills
Because of how icy
Her hands always were,
A love that progressed
Too slowly for you, a love
That you compared to
Watching paint dry.

Poem: Photo Album
Flipping through a photo album,
I watch myself flying through ages
As I flick through its glossy pages.
Sometimes your face passes me by,
Only to stay behind as a buried memory
On that wobbly paper, beside an old me.
This new me turns away from the glint
As lamp light catches your photographed eye.
My hand closes the book, as if to say goodbye.

Poem: Pink Lemonade
You poured out your pink lemonade
and placed the glass inside the sink,
where the faucet rained down on it
and washed the memory away
of puckered lips and the sour kiss
between you and that cold bottle.

Poem: Solo
She danced around the room,
looking people in the eyes
as she twirled past them,
never meeting the same gaze
twice. In the flashing lights,
spinning late into the night,
she was untouchable,
her tears dripping like sweat,
catching light like diamonds,
slipping, unseen, to the ground
as she kept gliding forward,
spinning late into the night.

BEFORE
in my head the rain came pouring down,
but it wasn’t you. after all, i didn’t know where you were.
still don’t.
DURING
in my head your waves are lapping against my shore.
in this moment i choose to forget the fact that the gravity of the moon controls our tides.
you are the only gravity i’ve ever known.
AFTER
in my head we had become two little girls arguing about a bug hotel,
or something else, i can’t remember now
you’re not invited to my birthday party.
