I am writing my bachelor thesis about queerness in "Witcher 3: Wild Hunt" so I read the books to have more context - I have heard a lot about how progressive the books are cause there is a queer relationship in them, Ciri has a girlfriend. And I feel I got tricked. The books are pretty progressive for the times they were created in, I'll give you that. There's a lot of pro-choice, antiracist, feminist narrative. But Ciri's relationship with Mistle wasn't a positive queer representation. Mistle saved Ciri from getting raped by one of the bandits in the group Ciri joined... Only to rape her seconds later - and from that moment on, they are shown to be a couple.
I feel the author wanted to show this relationship as toxic and it is just misinterpreted by readers. But that would mean there are two examples of queer women in those books, and both are very negative - cunning and unpleasant Philippa and abusive Mistle. Which is, given these are the only queer elements in the series, not very progressive and actually quite harmful.
Just for context, those books came out in the 90s in Poland. I am not gonna ignore that context. There were many positive messages, but there was also a lot of trivializing sexual abuse and queerphobia.
I hope they will show Ciri to be queer in the Netflix show but only if they make sure to be respectful and to show her queerness without being hyperfixated on her virginity and everyone's obsession with assaulting her in one way or another.

Just a (un)friendly reminder that book Cahir probably sexually assaulted Ciri - he said he "cleaned/bathed her" while she was paralyzed with fear and then admitted he fell in love with her but assured Geralt that in his head he saw her as already an adult (so like he fell in love with a future version of her cause by the time they met she was 12) so it should be fine?? And everytime she thought of him (like for example in nightmares) she was repeating phares "don't touch me" or "you'll never touch me again" which strongly suggests she was traumatized by what he did to her (A LOT of subplots about Ciri in the books circles around sexual assault and is very focused on Ciri's virginity)
Just to be clear: I believe he said the truth and just bathed her. But that doesn't change the fact that it had to involve touching her in a way she was not comfortable with (and that is assault and could be processed as a sexual assault by her - remember we're talking about an adult man and a 12 year old child he kidnapped) and it left her traumatized.

I'm Teddy and I'm helplessly in love with the witcher universe. I read the first two witcher books, played Witcher 3 and watched the series. I'm currently reading the third book, a ton of fanfiction, replaying Witcher 3 and I'm trying to play Witcher 2 (trying because my computers laging).
My favorite characters are the witchers (meaning Geralt, Lambert, Eskel, Vesemir and Ciri), Regis and Dettlaff, Emhyr and Mererid, Ivoreth, Olgierd and a few more
I ship a few straight ships, gay ones and polyamorous ships. But my all time OTP will always be Geralt x Regis haha

As soon as Regis was healed enough he tracked down the witcher Geralt, Dettlaff following him resigned. The witcher was thrilled to see him. It really was no surprise that Geralt was trying to find his ward again. She had a knack for getting into trouble they'd have to save her from.
It warmed Regis's otherwise cold heart to see Dettlaff and Geralt bickering like good friends. For the first time in forever he felt like he had come home.

What if Eskel was that uncle that was weird but everyone loves. Like Ciri had been completely fooled by the polite smile and manners, she once saw Eskel waving to his own imaginary crowd and swan dive onto Lambert, wrestle around a little bit and then threw him. He totally cheered himself on too.
Or she’s probably also seen Eskel in his trousers being followed by goats, his hair also has many tiny ponytails, and whenever one of his beloved goats yelled at him he just nods solemnly, “Yeah, I understand” or “oh I totally get it” are some of his answers to them.
I also would love to see the sibling rivalary between Geralt and Eskel, because Geralt maybe had told Ciri about how close him and Eskel are, so when she’s expecting to see them clap shoulders and share a brotherly moment, and not expecting to see Eskel walk up to Geralt and put a fishing hook in his cloak and begin running as fast as he could away from the others, well she’s very very surprised.
That but also some soft Eskel, like maybe the first few winters staying at Kaer Morhen, Ciri has some long lasting night terrors sometimes and if Geralt isn’t around, Eskel will scoop her up and hold her tightly against him to try and calm her back to sleep. He’ll read to her, softly sing songs his mother used to sing under his breath to Ciri, whatever she needs that he can give to her. He admits that seeing her cry like that reminds him of Geralt when they were younger, except now he can do stuff about it.
Idk, give me chaotic yet soft uncle Eskel, this man is bananas (b-a-n-a-n-a-s) and if you mix that with some soft stuff, it’s like the perfect smoothy.
