I ain't wanna rain on your parade, but I'm pretty sure it's the same bow. It has reddish brown wood with blue and yellow weavings, and blue and yellow-fletched arrows. The forest scene took place during eclipse, and the ikran scene took place during daytime, so the difference in light made it look like different colors. If you look very carefully at the arrow's fletching in both scenes, you can see the ikran-scene arrows have the same barred pattern as in the forest-scene, it's just the sunlight makes them look greenish while the eclipse-light made them look more blue. Also, the hanging trinkets are still there in the ikran scene, just hidden under his hand. I'm not sure Spider would've had the time and resources to make a new bow while in Quaritch's custody, so it seems pretty likely they found his dropped bow when they returned to the forest and Quaritch allowed him to keep it.

But either way, you're right that Quaritch had a lot of faith in him to not shoot one of them, and that Spider is a very talented human archer to use a longbow! 💙💙💙

It’s insane to think just how trusting Quaritch was of him to allow Socorro to make a completely new weapon, to allow the kid to arm himself and not only that; it’s a longbow. You need hella strength just to pull back the string, and holding it for too long can really damage your fingers, which speaks volumes about the kid’s archery skills. The arrows are also impressively long, which explains why he only has two. Can’t have Spider trying his chances and taking down a recom can we? 🤣

oh dang, it's easier to see in those pictures. Nvm, I think you're right, it actually IS a different bow. Now I'm even more impressed with Spider's skills that he made a working bow all by himself with just the materials he found while running around the woods with the recoms.

And since the visual dictionary describes Spider's bow as being built for an Omatikaya child, I wonder if his original bow belonged to Neteyam or Lo'ak or Kiri and they gave it to him when they got to big for it, that's so sweet 🥺🥺🥺

Which recoms do you think Spider bonded with the most? What would some of their interactions look like? Would Spider ever try to pry embarrassing information about Quaritch from them, would he ask about his mom, or just joke around?

I've seen a lot of fanfics, both AUs and canon universe, that expand on Spider's relationship with the other recoms, and that's really great and fun to explore, especially when Wainfleet becomes like an uncle to him.

But to be completely honest, if we're talking canon to the story of Avatar, I don't think Spider really had much of a relationship with any of the recoms other than Quaritch even though he did spend a lot of time with them. At the end of the movie, when Wainfleet shot Neteyam, Spider was running right next to him, and Wainfleet didn't seem to care if he hit him at all. Then after Neteyam's death, there's another brief scene where Wainfleet has a clear shot at Jake, but Spider is standing in front of him and would get caught in the crossfire. Wainfleet was ready to shoot Jake even if it meant hitting Spider too, and he only stopped because Quaritch told him to. And then right after that, Spider showed Jake where to ambush the recoms on the boat with zero hesitation. Spider didn't kill any recom himself, but his help made it a lot easier for Jake and Neytiri to almost wipe out the whole squad.

They spent months with each other, but when it came down to it, Spider and the recoms were willing to kill each other. Quaritch was the only exception, and even then, he had a long moment of hesitation before he could admit to himself that he did love spider more than he hated Jake. So even though in the og script and deleted scenes, we see Spider make fun of the recoms a little bit, I don't think Spider ever got comfortable enough with them to joke around or ask about such a sensitive topic like his mom.

Sorry if this is a boring answer, but I'm trying to stick to canon. And even though I don't think it's realistic to canon, I still LOVE fics that flesh out the recoms' relationship to Spider more! Fics are for bending canon anyway!

@nilnether very well said. The recoms aren't really characters, they're just background baddies with cool designs that exist to give our heroes something to kill. But that's the fun thing about them! They're like blank canvases, I've read lots of lovely fanfics that flesh them out and give them their own personalities! It's just me personally, I'm not super interested in writing about them, the only recom I care about is Quaritch since he's the only one who gets an actual character, and a really interesting one at that!

And about Wainfleet shooting Neteyam, I like your take on that. I remember going into A2 I had a feeling he was going to die since he didn't seem to get as much attention as the other kids in promo material, but I was still surprised when it happened. I was expecting him to get killed by Quaritch while saving Lo'ak or something, not hit by a stray bullet from the one-dimensional henchmen when he was almost to safety. It felt random. In a way, it almost felt disrespectful, like Neteyam wasn't important enough to be killed by the main antagonist or something. I wasn't surprised they chose to kill him off, but I was surprised it happened like THAT. And then the big controversial scene where Spider saved Quaritch happened and I was like, "ooooohhhh." I'm pretty sure based off of the hints JC has given and the leaked script that he's setting up for Quaritch to have a character arc that will end with him temporarily cooperating with Jake. Maybe not a full redemption, but something more like going from a full villain to an anti-hero.

So I think that's why JC decided to leave Wainfleet alive when all the other recoms got wiped out AND why he chose to have Wainfleet kill Neteyam. If he's setting up for Jake and Quaritch to have to cooperate, that will be much easier if there's another guy they can point fingers at and be like "HE is the one who killed your kid" so the Sullies have someone else to direct their anger at. Of course, Neteyam's death is still partly Quaritch's fault because he kidnapped the kids in the first place, but also he didn't order Wainfleet to kill any kids, he wasn't even present when it happened. Neytiri or Lo'ak might end up killing Wainfleet in A3 to properly avenge Neteyam. JC has confirmed Quaritch will survive to A5, so if the Sullies have to make a truce with him at some point, that may be made somewhat easier if they know they've killed his right hand man who was responsible for Neteyam dying.

Ft: my oc

You sat on your bed in the middle of the night scrolling through the old videos you took with the unit when you were human. You missed your old self. In one of the videos you were watching was when Rio had joined and had already managed to become lyles replacement. You laughed at the video.

“WAIT SO THE ROOKIE CAN DO A BETTER JOB THAN ME?” Lyle yelled in disbelief

“Uh what do you think?” Trudy said tilting their sunglasses a little to glance at him. Rio chuckled in the background as you recorded the small argument between them.

“OK ROOKIE I CHALLENGE YOU!” Lyle said pointing at Rio behind you. You turned the camera towards Rio and laughed at their reaction to him saying that.

“umm I think I hear Johnny boy calling me…yeah uh bye!” And just like that Rio ran out the room. It didn’t take long for Lyle to chase after them and Trudy following behind them.

“AYE AYE COME BACK!” You laughed at the last words Trudy said before chasing after the duo.

It was nice to relive a memory. You honestly thought you lost Rio forever until they were in a avatar different from yours. They still had the same personality and everything. But then again they were still a rookie to the rest of the squad.

You felt your stomach grumble. You just groaned in annoyance. This happened every time and every time you went to go get one of your snacks it would be missing. It didn’t matter what it was it would always be eaten by someone or something. So you decided to take matters into your own hands and catch who was taking your snacks and eating them. You quitely got out of bed and snuck into the living room area. You heard rummaging in the kitchen so you decided to hide behind the counter to catch the culprit red handed or blue handed.

You slightly peeked over the counter and saw that it was no other than Warren. You stood up from behind the counter and crossed your arms as you did a slight cough to catch his attention. And it did. He froze and looked you way with a scared expression. It was like he was more scared of you than quaritch himself. All you could see was his yellow eyes and the glowing dots on his body.

“Now….I Can explain.” Warren Said as He put his hands up in surrender. You rolled your eyes and looked at the box of little bites he opened with YOUR name on them.

“Explain how all this time you have been taking my damn snacks and eating my little bites?” You said as you snatched the bag from his grasp.

“Ok well I can’t explain that but I didn’t know ok!” He whisper yelled. You sighed. You couldn’t be mad at him forever. He was just too cute. So you just gave in to him stealing and taking all your snacks.

“You need to stop stealing my snacks but then again I do the same thing to you.” You said as you walked away.

“I’m sorry what?” Warren asked confused. It’s true you have been taking his snacks from time to time. Sometimes you would like it and sometimes you wouldn’t. Warren grabbed your shoulder and turned you around to face him.

“You thought I was gonna let that slide honey? Yeah no.” Warren said as he kissed you on the lips softly before pulling away from you and walking back to his room with your little bites in hand. You didn’t even notice he took them from your hands after that little session. You ended up going to bed hugging your pillow trying to process what happened.

Bad dreams

Quaritch was trying to sleep until he felt someone climb into his bunk. He looked down to see who it was and it was Lyle.

“Lyle why are you up?” He asked his small recom soldier. Lyle just crawled up to him.

“I had a bad dream.” He said as he pulled the covers over him and snuggled into quaritchs side. Quaritch sighed and patted his head softly. Even though Lyle was a toddler he still didn’t have no hair. Just as soon as quaritch was about to go back to bed he saw z-dig climbing into his bunk too.

“I also had a bad dream.” She said as also snuggled into quaritchs side. It wasn’t too long until the whole recom Team was his in bunk because they all had a bad dream. Hell Mansk just said he couldn’t sleep good and joined in the cuddle pile. Quaritch stared at the ceiling wondering about how this could all go wrong. He had ja and Warren on his chest and had the push two of the bunks together so the others could have room to sleep.

In the end they all managed to fall asleep peacefully without any nightmares.

Ok so I hope I’m not coming off as rude or anything towards you. It’s just that I don’t wanna trigger anyone with s/a And r*pe for those who have gone through it. (And if you have I am very sore to hear about that.) even though I was over the moon for this to be my first request I was also really confused on if I should do it or not. “Brown eat your broccoli.” Quaritch said pushing the plate back to him. Brown pushed it back towards quaritch and crossed their arms.

“I don’t like it!” Brown said as he stuck his tongue out in disgust. Quaritch sighed. Out of all the other recoms that ate the broccoli, Brown had to be the most difficult out of them all.

“Come on bud just eat it like the rest of your friends” quaritch said to Brown. Brown looked at the rest of his friends away from the dinner table playing and causing chaos. Hell he thought he saw z-dog and Walker try and make Fike eat a crayon. But that didn’t happen because quaritch glares at them from across the room when they were about to make him do it.

“But it nasty.” Brown Said trying to at least reason with his recom parent. Quaritch took Browns fork and stuck a piece of broccoli on it. Lopez soon wandered his way to the table and sat next to Brown.

“Dad, Warren ate a Quarter.” Lopez Said.

“I’m sorry what…oh lord WARREN!” As soon as quaritch heard that from Lopez he went to go check up on the situation. This left Lopez enough time to put some cheese on Browns broccoli.

“Ew you can’t put cheese on broccoli.” Brown told Lopez.

“Oh shush! It makes it taste better. Now eat it!” Lopez said pushing the plate towards Brown. Brown looked at it and picked up a piece with his tiny hands. He ate the top of it and it didn’t taste plain to him anymore. He soon cleared off his whole plate before quaritch came back looking disappointed.

“Lopez you lied. Stop lying or else time out.”

“Yes dad.” Lopez said as he left the table and went to go play with the other tiny recoms. Quaritch looked at Browns plate and saw that he ate all his broccoli.

“Hm you ate all your broccoli. Ok you can go play.” Quaritch said as he took up the plate and fork from Brown. Brown left the table and went to go play with the other recoms. Lopez went over to him and whispered to him.
