Shipping Dynamics - Tumblr Posts
People still do these? (I wonder how obvious my ships are from this)
I got to be honest, reading books about unicorns/pegasi really did make me want a horseš
When people-- and especially young women-- are attracted to "abusive" and "controlling" and "violent" male characters in fiction--
The fantasy is not about being abused, or controlled.
The fantasy is about a partner who is devoted to you, who takes care of you, who will defend you, to a larger than life degree.
And because it's fantasy, the person doing the fantasizing is in control.
The person having the fantasy knows for sure that when her fictional man says "I'm doing this because I love you" it's true, and not an excuse for abuse.
Because it's a fantasy. It's a story.
"Abusive" romantic leads in stories don't lead to women dating abusers any more than stories about unicorns lead to people buying horses.
AWWW ITS SO THEMāļøāļø
HAHA NO WAY
Love ships where its like some guy with autism and his special interest is his wife
Ship Dynamic: Genderless x Genderful
Think about this!!! Allow it to enter your brain cavities
You have Character A. Completely lacking in all signifiers of gender. Every single creature in your story, from the most conservative to the least, has to refer to this character with only they/them pronouns. They only wear gender-neutral clothing. Their complete lack of gender is impossible to understate.
THEN
You have Character B. They have the most luciously long hair you could ever imagine. A full-length beard of pure masculinity. And the most massive set of honkers ever. Complete mommy/daddy mikers. Whatever letter comes after Z is what they have. They have maxxed out femininity and masculinity. They are Genderā¢.
No one in the cast commentates on their two peers' utter fuckery with gender. No one questions what Character B has going on. No one wonders or cares what Character A is packing in their pants.
The best thing about this pairing is that it could be familial, platonic, or romantic.
Are you genderless or genderful?

Writing Mental Illness In Relationships
Shipping Dynamic: Weirdo x Weirdo
I really like when characters exist outside of the typical standard for how they should think and act but in a way that is self-destructive. Basically, less "quirky" and more "mentally ill".
For an example, i'll use my characters Jukka and Yuuma
Yuuma is a hyper-emotional mess of a human being who deals with severe mood swings and hallucinations due to a mixture of pre-existing conditions and overwhelming stress
Jukka is a character whose obsession with acting is also a coping mechanism for the fact that they can't really feel strong emotions except when they're talking about their interest in acting. Someone who has never felt fully accustomed to his own skin
p.s I highly relate to Jukka (except for the acting obsession) so be kind to him :3
And they both love each other. And this love doesn't help them totally overcome their trauma.
Yes, having a support system does encourage them to gain more friends, go to therapy, and improve themselves but Jukka still has naturally not strong emotions. Yuuma still deals with mental illness.
They help each other cope when they're able to.
They fight when their heightened experiences shape their perspectives.
What I love about this dynamic is the fact that their love isn't built on "needing eachother" but more on "I feel accepted when I'm around you" and "whenever I am truly strange, you are strange with me".
It's that type of bonding that i've only ever experience once in my life and I still think back on it.

So anyone else notice thst there's a ship dynamic that seems specific to femslash or sapphic shipping?
I'm talking about the feminine girly gal who's colour palette is 99% pink and who's usually blonde x the goth chick who's colour palette is mostly black. And the contrasting aesthetics accompany contrasting personalities.
Girly or pastel x goth is a recurring sapphic ship theme/dynamic/aesthetic, here are some examples:
Glinda x Elphaba
Raven Queen x Apple White
Queen Marceline x Princess Bubblegum
Clawdeen x Draculaura (given that we're talking about Monster High, Draculaura is rather goth herself; but the theme/contrast is still there)
And the newest edition being the sapphic ship from Wednesday which LITERALLY could not be more Pastel x Goth
Reasons behind/origins for this ship dynamic probably have something to do with:
-female duos often being "light feminine and dark feminine" and or "betty and veronica"
-opposites attract trope (both romantically and to have a strongly contrasted dynamic duo)
-maybe also "girls want bad boys" and heteronormativity mean that because of all the sweet feminine girl x bad boy stories, you get ships that are a sapphic version of this
-there's also foe romance subtext and foe yay shipping; heroes and villains are iften complete opposites, so you'll get a lot of pastel/pink/brightly dressed heroines and and goth villainesses in dark clothing
-heroines being princesses (Bubblegum and Apple) or fairies (Glinda) and villainesses being witches and evil queens (Raven and Marceline, well neither of them are evil but you get the idea)
-witches and magic often being interpreted through an lgbtq+ lens so goth sapphic witches happen (like Raven Queen or Elphaba)
-my examples include stories of two people who are on opposing sides, have opposing viewpoints and or start out as enemies. Two characters going from hating each other to being friends or lovers and two characters being very different and gradually realising that they have a lot in common are two very popular tropes for storytelling. So if you're writing a story about two characters hating each other at first but slowly becoming friends or lovers, giving them a strong contrast in aesthetic and personality highlights their differences and makes the idea of contrast and opposing characterosation more obvious. The two characters being so different and on opposite sides (Apple and Raven) makes them realising that they have a lot in common seem more meaningful. Two characters representing two opposing sides and their platonic or romantic love symbolising possible peace and acceptance is a classic storyline and it works.
-and again opposites attract is just reaaly popular. A strong visual and personality contrast is one of the most common ship themes ever
So if you combine the fact the female duos are often light feminine and dark feminine, opposites attract trope, enemies to friends or lovers and and foe yay... Plus the fact that a lot of fans love shipping enemies and opposites attract duos wether or not it's canon (for example Barbie and Raquelle aren't a couple but if they were they would be girly x goth; and because of foe yay shipping there's definitely ppl who ship them)... So yeah the reason this dynamic is so popular is probably the result of the combination of how storylines, romances and friendships are often written (enemies to platonic or romantic lovers and opposites attract) and of how media portrays and classifies female characters (dark feminine and light feminine). Put these two together and... Yeah... Opposites attract pastel femme and goth femme lesbians. Yeah it makes a lot of sense why there'd be both canon and fanon ships with this dynamic. It just works.
Anyway I fucking LOVE this ship dynamic (opposites attract and visual contrast are among my fave tropes) and yeah this is a whole post dedicated to it.
My Longstanding Theory on Taekookers
With all the jikookery going on lately and especially *yesterday* (canāt believe I watched that in real time instead of making dinner but watching that was girl dinner iykyk) I thought I would give some of my probably not original thoughts on that ship, you know the ones that completely lost their marbles forever ago but especially yesterday.
Anyway, this has always been my theory about Taekookers, itās the tale as old as time. They are actually y/n people. They want to date JK or Tae, and since they are unattainable, itās comforting to see them with each other than with someone else. Now, Iām sure some of them maybe ship them in a queer sense. But from every piece of evidence and reactions of their side that Iāve seen, they are extremely homophobic and fetishize queer people. They hate Jikook because not only is Jungkook not attainable for them to date but heās also not dating the other person that they picked and want to be with which is Tae. They hate the idea of Tae dating a woman (cough Jennie) because that means that heās straight (or perceived as straight) and not dating them. And heās not dating JK aka the other person that want to be with. Itās completely messed up, but there is no other way to rationalize it. It explains too why most TKK shippers are either really young or older cis women.
Not to mention they have this compulsion to be correct which is why they canāt give up their conspiracy theories. They need to be studied. They are a cult. They are dangerous, and I have no respect for them. But they arenāt stupid, they see how Jikook act. They can see the intimacy. No matter how much they try to spin it, they see it. They just donāt want to be wrong and want to cling to their ridiculousness. Thatās my thoughts. Feel free to add yours.
My complicated thoughts about KTH
Iāve said before that I love all the members of BTS, and I do. I also put in my about me that if I had to rank the members in order of my favorites, I could. And it would be according to who I gravitate to the most both musically and personality wise. Taehyung has always puzzled me. Heās eccentric, a free spirit, and not someone that I would probably get along well with in my personal life. But heās entertaining and clearly a beloved member of BTS by the members themselves, so I enjoy watching his interactions with them on stage and in content such as Run BTS.
In Chapter 2 thoughā¦ I donāt know how to feel. I try to see nuance in just about everything especially when itās something I have extremely limited facts that I can verify. I am hesitant to label him as some sort of villain attention seeker, but his behavior is puzzling to me to say the least. What I donāt believe in my heart of hearts is that Taehyung would ever do something to purposefully hurt one of his members in a majorly public way. I donāt think he is to blame for the derangement actions of Taekookers. But, he also doesnāt help either. His willingness to name drop JK constantly for no reason in interviews or in two minute lives is super strange. Donāt be active at all on Weverse then? I struggle to find a motive behind it. For the most part, I donāt think his actions bother Jikook because if they did, Iām sure he would stop. I do think it bothers Jungkook to some extent in the fact that he always has to do damage control against the embellishments that Taehyung tells. I donāt think Taehyung is bothered by the constant influx of Taekook comments when heās live, but I think Jungkook is bothered sometimes, hence his willingness to set the record straight and bring up Jimin because that is who is on his mind and who he gravitates towards not Tae.
Taehyung used to be the āget out of your imaginationā guy. And no matter how Tkks try to spin that, the man meant what he said back then. I donāt know exactly when the transition started, but it seems to be in this Chapter 2 soft launch of his equally famous girlfriend that didnāt go over super well with either fandom. My guess is that wasnāt the reaction he was expecting and now heās backtracking to appease his āfanbase.ā Heās probably a bit bitter over it too. I wish he cared less about Tkks and his solo stans, and Iām hopeful that he will forget about their nonsense once the 7 members are back together. If I was Jennie, I wouldnāt be thrilled by his actions. I would understand the hesitancy of going full public with the relationship, but only bringing up one member (the one you are shipped with the most) every time you decide to go live to see fans for two seconds or have an interview about your album is weird to me.
But again, Iām trying not to read too much into it or project my own feelings towards it too much. Iām sure if it bothers Jikook, things will be worked out behind the scenes. Time will tell if this behavior continues, and if one day it stops, I would have a good guess as to why.
Ambrose your opinion is invalid smh
One of my favorite things about polyamory fic is that, because a character is having different needs filled by different partners (and serving different needs of different partners), you get to see many aspects of their character that might not come up if they were locked into a singular relationship dynamic. Thus you end up seeing a more multi-dimensional and fleshed out view of the character.
