We Are Robin - Tumblr Posts

i REALLY love how this turned out. Lineless, inspired by Duke Thomas in We Are Robin!!

Been on motorcycle tiktok… thinking about these two f-ing around on their motorcycles…
—
Duke: There’s a cop
Jason: Just drive away it’s fine
Duke: No s*** I’m already on the other side of the city
—
Bruce: We’re on the same side of the police, even if they’re corrupt we’re all for justice
Duke, a Robin during the Robin War, a motorcyclist, and a black teenager: Uh huh. Of course
—
Dick: There’s a motorcyclist going 200 in Crime Alley
Jason: Damn, that’s me
Dick: Sick, do a wheelie

I’m writing this post to bring attention to Hadeel Mekki and her family (@hadeelmekki and @hadeelfamily) She, her husband Waseem, their daughters Mira and Nadia, as well as Hadeel’s two brothers and their mother are currently in Gaza.
Their gofundme has been verified by @90-ghost and they are aiming to raise €35,000.

They have broken this down by expenses:
Rafah/Egypt crossing: €5000 per person (a total of €25,000 for five adult family members)
€2,500 per child (a total of €5,000 for two children family members)
Minimum living costs: €5000
If you can, I implore you to donate even a few dollars to their cause.

Every contribution helps!

The story of Amna, a 28-year-old woman who lived in Gaza before the war. How did the war affect her life, specifically her home, her family, and her sense of motherhood? “What prompted her to take the action of donating to create a better reality for her family?”
This is the fourth departure. I miss you, my children. May God protect you. I am afraid that we will not meet 😭🇵🇸🌹

Another de-aged Danny au, but he's with Dan & Ellie & Jazz as well.
Jason has like just arrived back to Gotham, caused chaos in the underbelly due to well, 8 heads in a duffle bag, and is just starting his takeover of Crime Alley. It's going good, great even! And then he busts some sort of gang or smuggling ring run by people in white suits and there's... holy shit why do these four toddlers have Lazarus eyes?!
Is that a lab?! And Lazarus waters?! Jason might be a bit mad but he's not an asshole, he's not going to just leave these kids here to the streets. He can't just take them to the Batclan either, and as much as he begrudgingly trusts Talia, he sure as fuck doesn't trust Ras. Who knows what he'd do to four... what are they, pit-kids?
Now he's juggling his whole revenge-thing, running a criminal empire, taking over Gotham's underbelly, and being a single dad. At least the goonion seems to be down for helping, seeing as he's making Crime Alley safer...? .... Fuck he needs some proper sleep
Okay so I haven't read it and I have no idea if the Batkids even knew they existed until right before it all went down, but. What if, during "We are Robin" the Batkids all stopped by every now and then to tell them stories of their Robin days so that this gang of kids gets to troll the JL along with them.
Superman hesitated, glancing down at the group of kids, bloodstained in the midst of Gotham dirt and rubble.
They watched him as one, heads tilting in exactly the same way and eyes tracing his every movement. Clark suspected that if he paid attention to what he could hear, there would be only one heartbeat, simultaneously breathing. He didn't dare, but he made a mental note.
Bruce wouldn't like this.
So the Kryptonian took a deep breath.
"Who are you?"
They smiled.
"We are Robin."
Superman stared.
One of them, appearing to be a teen with hair as black as Batman's cape and skin the shade of stained mahogany, spoke, seemingly the front for this hivemind. "Don't you remember, Supes? We met before the Justice League even formed, when you noticed our heartbeat as we hid under B's cape."
Clark looked at them.
Too many glittering eyes stared back, and he nodded, slowly.
"Okay... Very nice. I'm going to go before Batman gets angry about me chasing down a Metropolis Rogue in his territory. Just... Don't kill anyone?" he pleaded.
He turned and fled, cape fluttering in the wind as Robin laughed.
idea: batman and the robins never acknowledge that there have been different robins. like they all act that there's only been one and that they're the same person basically.
Justice League who's used to teen dick not kid jason: who is this child?
Batman: what do you mean, it's robin.
-
Batman and Tim walking through the watchtower:
Justice League who remembers robin literally dying: ...*side eye*...
-
Flash: batman… who is this?
Batman: robin. you’ve met before. several times.
Flash: no, i met a black haired boy. this is a blonde girl!
Batman: her name is robin
-
Superman: it's time for you to explain. where are you getting all these children?
Batman: i have no idea what you're talking about.
Superman *pointing to damian*: who is this kid?!
Damian: i'm robin. i'm offended you would even ask that? don't you remember *proceeds to recite a story dick told him of his robin days*
Oh gosh y e s.
This is perfect and I shall have to write up some cryptid Batfam angsting and terrifying the JL tomorrow

the superhero's parallel to the hero's journey is one of an almost unbreakable curse: someone is harmed or killed while you are unable to stop it. you spend the next part of your life learning how to stop exactly that, promising yourself it won't happen again. you think to yourself, "if only I had been more prepared the first time, then I could have stopped it."
except defusing bombs isn't the issue. the person planting them is.
betrayal can't be anticipated: that's what makes it a betrayal.
and it's impossible to predict every single time someone will need life saving medical care.
still, you fantasize, "if I had the knowledge I have now, things would be different." and you save others from the same situation. time and time again. but still you ache. you didn't do it all those years ago. it haunts your every triumph.
it's not until you look in from the outside. the exact same thing happens to someone else this time, and you weren't able to stop it.
as you're beating yourself up for it and desperately trying to control the damage that's been done, you see someone sitting off to the side. they are alone and wrapped in a blanket. when you talk to them, you are shocked to hear that they blame themselves.
"What?!" you exclaim, "it wasn't your responsibility to stop this- you couldn't have known! it's on the shoulders of the perpetrators and people like me, who couldn't make it in time."
they are inconsolable. "from now on," they say, "I won't be so naive, and I will do everything I can to stop this from happening again."
you know when a battle is lost, so all you can do is nod and step away. back to your own business.
but it makes you terribly sad for someone to lose their innocence in such a way. to blame themselves for the consequences of someone else's evil. to never again see the world as a hopeful place: just a mosaic of fulfilled and missed opportunities.
and your story, the hero's story, will be tragic as long as you continue without looking inward.
it is only by considering your own beliefs that you are free of the vicious cycle:
sometimes, there is no happy ending, no clever way out. sometimes, awful things happen and there is nothing we can do about it. all we can do is pick ourselves off the ground, movement by excruciating movement, and hold our heads high. we continue. because it is worth it. not because you can "fix" things now. not because you will do things "right" this time. but because you deserve a good life. a life after the bad things. a joyful life.
this is when when you, the hero, finally realize that you're living a triumph. that even after something tragic happens, your life is not a tragedy.
Duke Stan nation I need help, I'm writing a batfam fic and I really want to get Duke right because he is a key character and I love him, unfortunately I suck at writing characters who are actually cool (like Jason is so simple, sure he's badass but he's a dramatic nerd, I'm a dramatic nerd, easy peasy) and I don't have the money to read all the comics, I've read the wiki so I know he's awesome and unhinged but I feel like I don't have him pegged enough to get his voice right, does anybody have any advice/specific strip that embodies him/clue to write him right? Thanks!!!
It's always "don't jump off a bridge to escape the police, Duke" and never "how was jumping off a bridge to escape the police, Duke? Was it fun? It looked like it was fun!"
(I really hope it was all, everything about that scene is so iconic oh my god)

This page will forever be iconic
