A survival guide for finals week

It's coming up unfortunately and it's probably the most stressful week you'll have in the semester and for some reason, every time it comes around it seems like the universe has it out for you. Here are some tips that have helped me and hopefully can help you!!! Feel free to add on!

Carry water with you everywhere. Nervous? Drink. Tired? Drink. Angry? Drink. Get hydrated and drink lots of water.

Don't cram. Get GOOD sleep. No all-nighters. Please

Start studying now. When the week comes, you'll be too stressed to actually study effectively

Take walks. When you get stressed and overwhelmed, take a walk! Get out of your room and head and just walk until you feel better (please be safe though)

Caffeine

Eat something healthy. Not everything has to be healthy. But some foods like salmon, broccoli, whatever. Nourish your body and it'll nourish you back

Save some money so you can take the week off.

Have a relaxing outlet that doesn't take energy. Maybe a cozy game? Latte art?

Play with some animals. This is scientifically proven to reduce stress btw so it's for health reasons

Your finals don't always happen when your classes happen so make sure you triple check dates and times

Feel some sunshine

Get a good Playlist that makes you happy

Try some yoga or something to distract yourself when you wanna cry

Learn how to harvest salt from your tears

If it's a cumulative final, go through past exams and quizzes and stuff. Those tend to cover the "important" material and will likely show up

Make cute study sheets! I know if my notes look boring I CAN'T study

Naps! Bonus if they're with animals

Try to get a study group together and study and chill

Believe in yourself! You got this!!!! You're better than you think and I have full faith in you and your abilities!

If you love the class, study because you love it!

If you hate the class, study so you never have to see that fucking teacher and listen to that stupid class ever again in your entire life.

Make yourself happy, cute drinks and happy, cute meals

Celebrate at the end. Please. You deserve it

Don't let it consume your every waking moment. It's just a test. Just another test

Tell yourself how amazing you are. You're doing something not everyone even gets the chance to. That's super awesome!!!

Eat some cake

Gum and crunchy veggies are both great stress busters

This is your sign - sent with love and encouragement- to stop scrolling and take one action step right now toward achieving your goals. ♥️

Strategies for Accomplishing your Goals

1. Keep busy and active. If you get into the habit of just sitting around you’ll find your motivation will start to disappear – as achieving goals takes effort, commitment and hard work.

2. Hang out with motivated people. The people we hang out with tend to influence us the most. So, if you hang out with go-getters they’ll help inspire you too – and, like them, you’ll want to persevere, reach your dreams and goals.

3. Make sure you have a concrete goal. Wishful thinking and daydreaming won’t make much of a difference. You need to be determined and formulate clear goals.

4. Tell other people about your plans and goals. Telling others what your goals are keep us more accountable – and stops us getting sidetracked, dropping out or giving up.

5. Seek out a role model. A role model can help us to visualise the steps and actions that are needed to lead us to our goals. Also, it’s likely they’ve encountered some obstacles and setbacks – and that can help inspire us when we meet a roadblock, too!

6. Expect to encounter bumps and obstacles. We all encounter obstacles, setbacks and roadblocks – and knowing that will happen can prepare us mentally. Don’t see that as a reason to give up on your dreams.

7. Break larger goals down into smaller, bite sized goals. That will increase your motivation as you’ll quickly reach small goals, and the end seem much closer, and more achievable.

8. Do the hardest things first. If you put off all the hard things it will drain your energy. But if you take those on as projects you’ll work on those first it will inspire and motivate you so it’s easier to persevere and reach your final goal.

The Cost of Procrastination: When "Later" Becomes "Never" Shaina Tranquilino November 27, 2023

The Cost Of Procrastination: When "Later" Becomes "Never"Shaina TranquilinoNovember 27, 2023

Procrastination is a universal human tendency that often stems from a variety of factors such as fear, perfectionism, or a lack of motivation. We've all been guilty of pushing tasks to the back burner, convincing ourselves that we'll get to them "sometime." However, the danger lies in the fact that "sometime" can easily transform into "never." In this blog post, we'll explore the consequences of putting things off indefinitely and discuss strategies to overcome the procrastination trap.

The Domino Effect:

One of the primary reasons why "sometime" becomes "never" is the domino effect of delayed actions. When we procrastinate on a task, it often leads to a chain reaction where other responsibilities pile up, creating an overwhelming sense of inertia. This snowball effect can make it increasingly challenging to start or complete any of the delayed tasks, ultimately resulting in missed opportunities and unfulfilled potential.

The Illusion of Infinite Time:

One of the greatest deceptions of procrastination is the illusion of infinite time. We convince ourselves that there will always be another day, another chance to tackle our goals. However, time is a finite resource, and each passing moment brings us closer to missed opportunities and unexplored possibilities. Recognizing the value of time is crucial in breaking free from the procrastination cycle.

Overcoming the Procrastination Trap:

Set Clear Goals and Deadlines: Clearly defined goals with specific deadlines create a sense of urgency, making it less likely for procrastination to set in. Break down larger tasks into smaller, manageable steps and allocate specific timeframes for each.

Understand the "Why": Reflect on the reasons behind your procrastination. Are you afraid of failure or success? Understanding the root cause can help you address the underlying issues and develop strategies to overcome them.

Prioritize Tasks: Not all tasks are created equal. Prioritize your responsibilities based on urgency and importance. Tackling high-priority tasks first can prevent them from accumulating and becoming insurmountable.

Utilize Productivity Techniques: Experiment with productivity techniques such as the Pomodoro Technique or the Eisenhower Matrix. These methods can help you stay focused, manage your time effectively, and break down tasks into manageable intervals.

Seek Accountability: Share your goals with a friend, family member, or colleague who can hold you accountable. Having someone to check in on your progress can provide the necessary motivation to stay on track.

The phrase "sometimes later becomes never" serves as a stark reminder of the consequences of procrastination. By understanding the reasons behind our tendency to delay tasks and implementing proactive strategies, we can break free from the cycle of inertia and transform "sometime" into "today." Time is a precious resource, and seizing the moment is the key to unlocking our full potential. So, let's embrace the power of now and turn our aspirations into achievements. After all, the only moment we truly have control over is the present.

Believe in Yourself: Unleashing the Power Within

Believe In Yourself: Unleashing The Power Within

In a world constantly bombarded with pressures and expectations, it's easy to lose sight of our own potential. Doubts creep in, insecurities take hold, and we find ourselves questioning whether we have what it takes to succeed. However, amidst this chaos, one essential lesson remains unchanged - the incredible strength that lies within us when we believe in ourselves.

The Power of Self-Belief: Believing in yourself is not just a cliché; it's a fundamental principle that can shape our lives. When we trust in our abilities and have faith in our dreams, doors open, opportunities arise, and obstacles become stepping stones towards growth.

Self-belief is like a beacon that guides us through challenging times. It fuels determination, resilience, and perseverance – qualities often required on the path to success. It provides the motivation to overcome setbacks, learn from failures, and keep moving forward.

Building Self-Belief: Developing self-belief requires conscious effort and continuous practice. Here are some strategies to cultivate an unshakeable belief in yourself:

1. Challenge negative self-talk: Recognize your inner critic and consciously replace self-doubt with positive affirmations. Remind yourself of past achievements and acknowledge your strengths.

2. Set achievable goals: Start small by setting realistic goals that align with your aspirations. Accomplishing these milestones will boost your confidence and reinforce your belief in your capabilities.

3. Surround yourself with positivity: Surrounding yourself with supportive individuals who uplift you can significantly impact your self-belief. Seek out mentors or join communities where you can find encouragement and inspiration.

4. Celebrate every win: Embrace even the smallest victories along your journey as they serve as proof that progress is being made. Each accomplishment strengthens self-belief further and propels you forward.

5. Step out of your comfort zone: Growth lies outside our comfort zones. Embrace new challenges, take calculated risks, and embrace the unknown. Each experience will reinforce your belief in your ability to adapt and thrive.

Benefits of Self-Belief: Believing in yourself has numerous benefits beyond personal growth:

1. Improved mental well-being: Having faith in ourselves boosts our self-esteem and reduces anxiety. It allows us to face life's challenges with a positive mindset and navigate difficult situations more effectively.

2. Increased resilience: Self-belief empowers us to bounce back from failures and setbacks, transforming them into learning opportunities instead of roadblocks.

3. Enhanced creativity: When we believe in ourselves, we are more likely to explore uncharted territories, challenge norms, and think outside the box – fostering innovation and creativity.

4. Inspiring others: Our self-belief radiates outwardly, inspiring those around us to have faith in their own abilities. By leading by example, we create a ripple effect of empowerment within our communities.

In a world that can often be discouraging and unpredictable, believing in oneself becomes an anchor that brings clarity amidst chaos. Cultivating self-belief is not just about achieving personal success but also about embracing one's true potential and making a positive impact on the world around us.

Remember, you are capable of greatness! Believe in yourself, harness your inner strength, and embark on a journey where impossibilities become possibilities. The power lies within you; all you need to do is trust it!

One Step at a Time: The Power of Incremental Progress Shaina Tranquilino February 19, 2024

One Step At A Time: The Power Of Incremental ProgressShaina TranquilinoFebruary 19, 2024

Life is a journey filled with challenges, dreams, and aspirations. Whether you're pursuing personal growth, professional success, or a significant life change, the path ahead can seem daunting. In those moments of uncertainty, it's crucial to remember a timeless piece of advice: take one step at a time. This simple mantra encapsulates the power of incremental progress, emphasizing the importance of small, consistent actions on the road to achieving your goals.

The Power of Small Steps:

Builds Momentum: Every big achievement begins with a single step. Taking that first step sets a series of events in motion, creating a sense of momentum that propels you forward. Think of it as a snowball effect – as you gather small wins, your confidence and motivation grow, making it easier to tackle more significant challenges.

Reduces Overwhelm: Ambitious goals can be overwhelming, leading to procrastination or feelings of inadequacy. Breaking them down into smaller, more manageable tasks makes the journey seem less intimidating. Instead of focusing on the entire mountain to climb, concentrate on the next step. This approach minimizes stress and allows you to channel your energy effectively.

Fosters Consistency: Consistency is key to success. Small, consistent efforts over time often yield better results than sporadic bursts of intense activity. By focusing on one step at a time, you develop a routine that becomes ingrained in your daily life. This sustained effort is more likely to lead to lasting change and achievement.

The Journey, Not the Destination:

Celebrate Progress: Acknowledge and celebrate each small victory along the way. Whether it's completing a task, reaching a milestone, or overcoming a challenge, take a moment to recognize your achievements. This positive reinforcement reinforces the idea that progress is being made, motivating you to continue on the path.

Learn and Adjust: Not every step will be perfect, and setbacks are a natural part of any journey. Instead of viewing them as failures, see them as opportunities to learn and adjust your approach. Reflect on what went well and what could be improved, then make the necessary adjustments as you move forward.

Enjoy the Process: Embrace the journey itself, as it holds valuable lessons and experiences. Life is not just about reaching the destination; it's about the growth, self-discovery, and resilience developed along the way. By savouring each step, you cultivate a positive mindset that enhances your overall well-being. In a world that often glorifies overnight success and instant gratification, the wisdom of taking one step at a time stands strong. Whether you're chasing dreams, facing challenges, or pursuing personal growth, remember that greatness is often achieved through persistent, incremental progress. By breaking down your goals into manageable steps, celebrating small victories, and staying focused on the journey, you'll discover the transformative power of one step at a time. So, take that first step – your future self will thank you for it.

how to make yourself feel a bit better when you have mental illness

• get out of bed. the earlier the better, but if you’re just getting up at 6 PM, at least you’re up, good job

• if you have a bed, make it. Try your hardest to make it neat & tidy. if you don’t have a bed, fold up your blankets & put them in a closet or something along those lines

• take a shower, not a bath. it’s best to keep you a little active right now. sit down if you need to. shampoo your roots, and condition your ends. shave if that’s your thing, use a body scrub, get a shower steamer tab, (it’s like an aromtheraphy tablet you put by the water and it releases essential oils into the air) etc

• wash your face. whether you have an extensive, fancy, routine or just a plain bar of soap. either are cool. make sure whatever your using isn’t scented (foaming soap can be bad for your skin too)

• put on clean clothes

• paint your nails (boys & girls can both do this! if you don’t like it, don’t do it. if you’re afraid family, etc, will see, paint your toenails instead. Or do a clear coat to make you regular fingernails shiny)

• if you live in a somewhat safe area, take a walk. around dawn is good because it’s cool & there aren’t many people. dusk is a good time too, to see the sunset. as long as you don’t travel too far and your streets are well lit.

• go to a gas station and pick up your favorite treat :)

• after you get whatever done today, put on some comfy socks, and loose clothes. Just chill and watch a good show you like. something like the office, or parks n rec, a chill show you’re familiar with that you can binge watch

• talk to someone. anyone. whether it’s the person working at 7/11, your fish, grandma, or a friend, whatever. don’t isolate yourself. it’s good to take time for yourself! but try to take baby steps back to socialization.

•let your mind rest. meditate, read a book and listen to nature, etc

•open all the windows in your house in the morning

this isn’t going to “cure you”. but when you are active, it really helps. jump starts your system, you feel more accomplished and motivated, and it’s proven that the more you push yourself in a healthy way, you feel better. while I was in the hospital they said doing stuff like this will help you recover more.

🥹 I'm so touched that my challenge has been part of the inspiration here!!

Hermit-a-Day May Day 7: Mumbo Jumbo. This Is The First Day I've Actually Finished (sort Of) On Time,

Hermit-a-Day May Day 7: Mumbo Jumbo. This is the first day I've actually finished (sort of) on time, but I'm hoping to catch up with the ones I've missed eventually.

I'm trying out doing each of this month's pieces in a different art medium and/or style, partially inspired by @elodee's cartoon style challenges. Today was my normal style, but in the medium of colored pencils! This was a ton of fun and I'm really proud of how it turned out, despite me feeling out of my depth the entire time.

To all of you struggling with your bodies, keep going. You will never regret choosing to live. I love each and every one of you 💛

Nothing hurts quite like watching your loved ones enjoy delicious food that you'd do almost anything to eat while you starve and envy them and your stomach churns, empty with acid and consuming itself.

You don't want this. No one should covet Anorexia Nervosa, or any ED. They are pain and suffering and misery. Get out while you can. Get out before it's a disorder and no longer a crash diet that you started just to lose a few pounds. It's not worth it.

Fight. Please. For those of us who know nothing else anymore, fight for your life. Because if you don't fight, the only way out is a slow and painful death. Please don't give up, it's never too late but it does get harder and harder the longer you suffer. Get help.
