The tradition of the Christmas tree originated in eastern Europe more than 500 years ago. Today, it has become a thriving industry, employing nearly 100,000 people and generating almost $2 billion in revenue annually. Approximately 25-30 million natural Christmas trees are harvested each year, with about 30 percent coming from the Pacific Northwest. Sales of real Christmas trees have increased by nearly 20 percent since 2020, and artificial trees are also popular.
While artificial trees have faced criticism for the chemicals used in their production and their environmental impact, live trees also have their drawbacks.

A couple job interview hacks from someone who has to give a job interview every single goddamn day: (disclaimer: this goes for my process and my company’s process, other companies and industries might be different)
1. There are a few things I check and a few questions I ask literally just to figure out if you can play the game and get along with others in a professional setting. Part of the job I interview for is talking to people, and we work in teams. So if you can’t “play the game” a tiny bit, it’s not going to work. Playing the game includes:
- Why do you want to work here? (just prove that you googled the company, tell me like 1 thing about us, I just want to know that you did SOME kind of preparation for this interview)
- Are you wearing professional clothing? I don’t need a suit just don’t show up in a ratty t-shirt and sweatpants.
- Are you able to speak respectfully and without dropping f-bombs all the time? Not because I’m offended but because I don’t want to be reported to HR if you wind up on my team.
- Can you follow simple directions in an interview?
2. Stop telling me protected information. I don’t want to know about what drugs or medications you’re on, I don’t want to know about you being sick, I don’t want to know if you’re planning to have children soon, I don’t want to know anything about your personal life other than “can you do the job?”
3. When we ask, “What questions do you have for me?” here are my favorites I’ve heard: - What does the day-to-day look like for a member of your team?
- If one of your team members was not performing up to his usual standard, what steps would you take to correct that?
- What can I start doing now to accelerate my learning process in this job?
- What are some reservations you have about me as a candidate? (be ready for this emotionally….it will REALLY help you in the future, and I’ve had people save themselves from a No after this, but can be hard to hear)
- In your opinion, what skills and qualities does the ideal candidate for this job possess?
- What advice would you give to a new hire in this position/someone who wanted to break into this industry, as someone who has worked here for a while?
Those are just my tips off-the-cuff. I work in sales in marketing/SAAS, so these can be very different depending on the industry, but I wish the people I interview could read this before they show up.
It's so weird talking to people who's view of "here's the way life is for everyone" is shattered as soon as they talk to someone with disabilities (physical, mental illness, any). Like you'll say you'll have a problem and instead of helping you they'll argue with you about how you're not actually facing that problem. Like,
Me: Hey, I'm really struggling to find a job and a part of it is my resume. I was depressed & psychotic during highschool so I didn't do anything to gain skills or achievements to put on my resume. I also don't have anyone to put as a reference. What can I do?
Them: You can add your skills, hobbies, clubs you're in, and different volunteer work you've done! You can also get your teacher as a reference.
Me: I already know what to put on a resume, my issue is that I don't have things that I can use. Also, I'm in my mid 20s so I don't know if I can put my highschool teacher as a reference.
Them: Well if you're a part of a church or an activity group, you could add that. Also, think of any projects you've worked on in the past.
Me: I already know you can put these things on a resume. I'm not looking for suggests of things I've already done, I'm looking for what I can do now if I haven't done anything.
Them: There's no way you didn't do anything during highschool?? What about some odd jobs you definitely did for extra money, like babysitting or mowing the lawn?
Me: I spent all of highschool either in modified classes or in bed doing nothing - not even hobbies, what about that do you not understand?
And then you talk to someone who's also disabled and they're like "Here's a bunch of jobs you can do from home that don't pay much but look good on a resume, here's some free online courses that also look good on a resume, here's how you can be making small amounts of money in the meantime, here's some things you can put besides a professional reference, and here are your rights if your future employer tries to take advantage of your disability - which you probably shouldn't tell them about unless you need accommodations."
And suddenly my will to continue trying returns!
Fucking resumes
I'm so fucking useless! I can't even write a fucking resume!
I'm sick of just getting a fucking allowance. I'm sick of having to ask my friends to pay for my lunch because I have $5 in my account.
BUT NO! I can't even get a fucking tax file number. The biggest employers in the COUNTRY have NO causal positions up. SO all of my classmates have those jobs and I don't. I should've done this back in JANUARY.
I have NOTHING. No money, no social life, no enjoyment, no job and not even a FUCKING RESUME.
AND NO ONE WILL HELP ME WRITE ONE! FOR FUCKS SAKE SOME ONE HELP ME!
Never had a single Starbucks coffee in my life! Let's see what all the fuss is about! (From home of course)
So, as you know, or don't, an employee got fired from Starbucks and they posted all the recipes online =)

Pile 1: Do something that makes you happy. There is an emphasis on joy rather than money. Focus on self-fulfillment. If you don’t already know what makes you happy, meditate and ask yourself that question. Your message is very direct in that your feelings show you what is and what is not for you. You probably didn’t really need this reading. But, it’s confirmation if you did!

Pile 2: Go forward with gusto! There have been plans that needed to be made or advancements that need a green light. You may have been feeling a tug towards something more. Victory is on the horizon. You will be more successful than you realize. Analysis paralysis may have kept you in the same place for some time. Movement in a meaningful way would do you good.

Pile 3: Leave something behind. There is something that you need to look into yourself for and a decision needs to be made. The universe is supporting you in new endeavors, but I’m feeling that you are stuck at the movement part of this decision. Like Pile 1, there is a message of happiness that is coming through over any mention of actual money.

This is what day one feels like, btw.
"Come work for us! There's opportunities for advancement!" Advancement? PAH! You don't understand Carol, I crawled my way to the bottom and damn if I ain't staying.
I hate the world we live in.
Thin privilege is better pay, particularly if you're a woman.
Thin women are paid more than fat women -- tens of thousands more by some estimates. This means thin women are valued as if they had more years of education and experience than fat women. To be at parity wages with thin women, fat women need to be much more educated (almost two years more education than thin women) and experienced (about three years more experience than thin women).
Researchers trying to determine why, have discovered that fat women are more likely to work in physical jobs and less likely to work in public-facing jobs than thin women. Public-facing jobs are generally better paid. Discrimination against fat women in public-facing jobs, like upper management and performance and waitressing and modeling and sales, could be the reason fat women on average make so much less than thinner women.
The most pay on average nets to relatively thinner women--about a 22 on the outmoded BMI scale.
Finally, take a gander at this absolutely devastating graph that shows a significant negative relationship between BMI/body fat and income for women from the St Louis Fed (2011):
This is thin privilege---massive, obvious, thin privilege.

Read the book.

Job interview tip I got from a tiktok but it's genius:
If you were unemployed for a while, they're going to ask if you can explain the gap in your resume. Unless you were actually doing something cool & relevant, this is hard to answer in a way that makes you sound like a good corporate cog. So here's the best and infallible answer -
No you cannot, because you signed an NDA.
You now sound mysterious, desirable, worldly, experienced. They can't even really ask you more about it! Perfect.
Employed people, we getting paid 3 times next month ☺️

The greatest gymnast of all time, Simone Biles, took an apparent jab at former Pres. trump early Friday, posting on X, "I love my black job," in response to a post about her winning the gold medal in the women's gymnastics individual all-around hours earlier.
The comments came after trump used the term "Black jobs" during an appearance at the National Association of Black Journalists Conference.
Psa for artists: learn 3D!Based on job inquiries I’m on a fairly short list of stylized 3D artists. If you can translate your unique 2D style to 3D there’s honestly not a lot of competition
how is it fair that i have to apply for 20+ jobs over 5 days and write individualised cover keys and employers can ask stupid questions that can be answered by reading my CV which they asked me to attach. i have to put in a lot of time, effort, and emotional energy applying to jobs. and then employers don’t even have to respond to me. i’m lucky to hear back that i didn’t get the job. it’s not fair that i am not being hired for entry level dishwashing position because i “don’t have enough experience” when i WORKED IN A KITCHEN for 2.5 years and therefore WASHED DISHES FOR 2.5 MOTHERFUCKING YEARS. and the worst part. the most grating part. is that these sleezeball business owning mitherfuckers are STILL complaining that young people are lazy and don’t want to work.
i am feeling big 👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎

Help - in need of some sage advice!
So I just landed my dream job - YAY! It’s an 18-month contract overseas in a beautiful country! HOWEVER the pay is low, and it does not fall within the realm of a conventional/“stable” career. But it’s been a dream of mine to get this job.
The thing is -
being the over-thinker that I am - I can’t help but think about the after. “What will I do after this period of my life doing this job” (however long it may be)? It doesn’t fall anywhere close to what my bachelor’s degree is and doesn’t promise any stable/continual career after this period. While there are ways to be lucrative during this period, I’m not sure if I am capable of doing so!
My end goal
is to be able to settle down back home, but with how the world is going it seems like taking this job, while fun and a dream, will not catapult me towards stability and a career that I can continue back home…
But, this job has been my dream for as long as I can remember.
I’ve cried over it some many times and now it’s happening. But committing to it is such a gamble l and it is terrifying.
If anybody out there has any advice, your first could really use it right now…
