Decided to rant about Striker's character and why I think he works (Warning: This ended up being massive)

Decided To Rant About Striker's Character And Why I Think He Works (Warning: This Ended Up Being Massive)

The best analogy about Striker that I can make is that he isn't really a cowboy, but a comic book villain who themes himself around being a cowboy. Now that I've done the meme-y version, allow me to actually explain.

A lot of people seem to overlook that there is a single thread that holds together Striker's personality, and is the root of most of his characterization. And that thread is a need for respect.

Let's look through his appearances and explore how his obsession manifests:

Harvest Moon Festival:

Decided To Rant About Striker's Character And Why I Think He Works (Warning: This Ended Up Being Massive)

In his first episode, Striker presents himself as a model Wrath imp in order to gain the trust of Millie's family and Blitz. The only person he breaks character around is Moxxie, since he assumes Moxxie's insecurity about not being good enough in the eyes of his in-laws will make him automatically respect someone who they do approve of.

He later breaks character when Blitz catches him, he tries to convince Blitz that they're too good to live their lives around the whims of nobles, he tries to show himself as someone who can get Blitz what he wants, or rather, what Striker thinks Blitz wants, again to seem like someone who's "got it figured out" .

Another note worthy thing is his very professional way of speaking with Stella in both this and the next episode he's in, we'll get back to this later.

Western Energy:

Decided To Rant About Striker's Character And Why I Think He Works (Warning: This Ended Up Being Massive)

The first point of interest is easy to miss the significance of, when breaking into the Richest Cup he makes it as dramatic as possible, he's trying to show himself as dangerous enough to warrant such cocky recklessness while surrounded by goetic demons.

After he takes Stolas we see his hideout which is full of scavenged western imagery that looks like an ominous lair, but upon closer inspection is actually a meager living arrangement for a deeply troubled demon.

His actual rant to Stolas includes a line about nobles taking everything lower class demons care about, showing WHY respect is important to him, he's never felt that he, or the part of society he belongs to, have been respected, or as he later says, all nobles do is try to talk over them.

Striker torturing Stolas shows how his need for respect is reflected in him being an assassin, he thinks he can get respect through fear, that having the most primal form of authority over someone will make him feel more significant. And this is why Stolas and I.M.P. are his greatest enemies, their irreverence makes them the only targets that don't play his game, that remind him of what he really is, a desperate, fragile, hero in his own mind, willing to do whatever it takes to prove his importance, not to others, but to himself.

Once again, he's begrudgingly cordial towards Stella despite his hatred of royals, in an effort to get even a fleeting acknowledgement of his worth. Showing that his belief that he can play into people's minds to get what he wants extends to his emotional wants as well.

Oops:

Decided To Rant About Striker's Character And Why I Think He Works (Warning: This Ended Up Being Massive)

Here we see Striker in a much different light, mostly due to his new employer. First off, he's much more open with his frustration and moments of weakness, despite Crimson actually being physically present there and being able to see and hear everything. I think this is because Crim is a rare example of someone Striker doesn't feel he needs respect from. Crimson is, at least in Striker's eyes, an imp who has found moderate success by mimicking the lifestyle of a royal. He might not show it, but Striker probably resents Crimson just as much as, if not more than, he resents Blitz and Fizz, since Crimson has no actual royal support (that we know of).

Speaking of Blitz and Fizz, in his interaction with them in the cage scene we get the most blatant example of Striker thinking that his victimhood as an imp makes his "accomplishments" more worthy of respect, as he completely skirts around the fact he's the only hybrid out of the three, and we also learn he's aware of all this on at least some level when he threatens Fizzarolli for comparing him to a royal due to his arrogance.

And lastly, the climax when he grabs Fizz and the moment when we get the immortal line "Why is it always a sex thing!?", and why is it always a sex thing? Why do the members of IMP and those close to them not fall for his act? Put simply, it's due to trust, no matter how skilled or intimidating he is, Striker is still a loner with no one and nothing to fall back on beside his own skill. In sharp contrast to this the main cast have strong enough bonds that they know someone will oppose him. For example, Striker's attempt at demoralizing Stolas fails because he didn't think Blitz would trust his employees enough to do the saving.

So, yeah, I think Striker currently has a better thematic through line than any other villain in the series and I'm interested in seeing where they take him next. That being said, I feel Crim could be just as great and will probably make a similar post for him after his third episode.

That or the first time he says it the captions ad something like: "Don't worry, he's Australian :D"

Okay, I Know Mammon Is Supposed To Be Australian, But The Fact He Even Puts The C Word On A Billboard

Okay, I know Mammon is supposed to be Australian, but the fact he even puts the C word on a billboard means we're likely going to hear it a LOT in the next episode. O_O I REALLY hope that Mammon says it to the point though that the person writing the subtitles will say that they're running out of ideas for censorship/substitutions (like how in "Western Energy" they did "C U Next Tuesday"). XD XD XD

I Just Saw The Mammon Teaser And I Want To Say 2 Things. I Love His Design And Rat Bastard Energy But

I just saw the Mammon teaser and I want to say 2 things. I love his design and rat bastard energy but also I think this gif is definitely taken from a flashback of some sort because of the grainy filter over the clip, maybe Blitz is watching a recording of a performance at Mammon's theatre? Maybe one he made himself?

Also WHAT DO YOU MEAN it might come out for Halloween, that would make this another less than 2 month gap between season 2 episodes, at this rate we might even get episode eight be the end of the year.

I think that Mammon's Magnificent Musical is going to have three main segments, kind of like The Circus, just, hopefully better.

The first is a flashback from Blitz's pov with him and Fizz at Mam's concert before the accident. This might be partially seen through a recording, hence the grainy effect in the teaser.

After that we get a second flashback from Fizzarolli's pov with him working for Mammon, getting his new limbs and meeting Ozzie. This might also involve some kind of recording.

And the last segment will completely be in the present, possibly from Mammon's pov, to set up his involvement in the show going forward.

We'll probably see more and more of Mammon's real character with every segment, going from his stage persona, to the callous executive he is towards Fizz backstage, to the ruthless monster and probably mob boss he is in private showing why he'll be a threat.

So after reading a post from @anthurak I couldn't stop thinking about one particular sentence:

Ozzie makes a big point about how he believes lust should be consensual between all parties, openly decrying the use of ‘love potions’ and other means of coercing.

Eventually I realized which part stuck in my mind:

openly decrying the use of ‘love potions’ and other means of coercing.

The reason this stuck out to me is it made me realize that if Ozzie knew about the fact that Stolas basically used the grimoire to extort favors from Blitz on a monthly basis up until the events of Western Energy, he probably wouldn't approve of their relationship as much as he does.

Sinsmas prediction (I'm really hoping this one is right!)

Something I've seen a lot of people talk about is that fact that Blitz fixing his relationship with Fizz and Stolas now being able to give Blitz a crystal means that they'll have less reasons to see each other and thus have a harder time working through the issues between them.

But I think this chain of accidental self sabotage will carry over to Stolas, I think The Full Moon, Apology Tour and possibly Mastermind might help rebuild the trust between Blitz and Stolas, but at an unseen cost.

And now we finally come to the actual season finale prediction I promised. I believe Sinsmas will show Stolas planning to spend the (un)holiday with Via only for her to not show up and him thinking Stella and Andrealphus are behind it. The twist being is that she herself chose not to spend time with him since he basically focused his entire life for a while around his boy toy and virtually abandoned her. The ending will leave Stolas to wallow in the consequences of his shortsighted actions as Octavia spends Sinsmas with her mother and uncle. This will set her up as a central character in season 3.

Cash's Past and Future

Cash's Past And Future

Recently more and more people have been theorizing on what happened to Pa Buckzo after the fire but I haven't encountered anyone who shares my theory, but before we get to it, CONTEXT!

While Mammon's involvement and even awareness is still up in the air, we can safely say that Cash knowingly acted as one of, and likely THE main agent that drove Blitz and Fizz apart after the accident. This naturally raises the question of why? The answer is obviously money, this is Cash Buckzo were talking about, but HOW would he make money off of it? The answer is right under our noses, specifically in Oops:

Cash's Past And Future

The Clown Pageant!

I believe Fizzarolli participated in one shortly before the fire which attracted Mam's attention, but not enough for him to seek Fizz out immediately. When he eventually does he finds the rising star horribly disfigured and the circus he worked for destroyed, with it's owner in an absolute shitfit, he then offers Cash the chance to seek out new entertainment ventures without his unwanted family, all for the low-low price of his (effectively) adopted son's agency.

After all this, Cash, likely under a false identity to avoid being recognized by former acquaintances, enjoys a fairly comfortable life somewhere in Greed, possibly even occasionally working directly with Mammon himself.

The reveal of this in the series proper would come with Blitz coming face to face with Mammon, only to run into him mid conversation with his dead beat father, chaos and emotional damage ensue.

So, yeah, I think Cash will actually be a more substantial villain than most fans currently think, even if he doesn't end up with much actual screen time.

Thinking about the dream I had recently where there was an official HB video game.

I think the plot was Blitz decided to franchise IMP and your custom character was chosen as the manager/lead assassin of the new branch.

The gameplay was a sort of Kingdom Hearts hack-n-lash with you getting more employees as the game goes on, doing gigs both in Hell and on Earth.

There was a sort of cul de sac hub outside your office where you would get sidequests, and here's where things get weird. One of the quest chains was given to you by Wally Wackford, but if you talked to Wally after finishing said questline he would have no idea who you are, with it being implied that the Wally you've been doing favors for was an impersonator.

New HB teaser!

So we finally got the second teaser for the midseason special, here's the link. To me, this reads as the first time Fizz and Ozzie really bond after Fizz starts working for Mammon.

I know some people have other predictions for the episode, but at least for me, there doesn't seem to be a way for this episode to not explore Fizz's life between the fire and the present.

All that actually brings me to a new theory: Maybe the titular musical is a dramatized version of Fizz's career starring Mam and Fizz as themselves and the new teaser could be Fizz remembering his encounter with the real Ozzie while reenacting it on stage with a stand-in. This could be a parallel to Blitz having a flashback on the sitcom set in Seeing Stars.

On a side note, line recording for season 3 has started and we've been told the following things: Wally is confirmed to have a speaking role in season 3, the voice of Perrito from Puss in Boots 2 joins the cast, and it seems there will be a court case of some kind.

Things I find funny and/or appreciate about the Serbian Helluva Boss dub by Paradajzcity Dubs

The show itself is given the title "Đavola Rabota", roughly meaning "Devil's Racket" or "Hellish Racket"

Blitz is renamed to "Žark", which makes his original name "Žarko", not only is Žarko an actual Serbian name, but it's also an adjective to describe a bright light, like that of a fire.

Blitz is voiced by Željko Popović, who's basically the Serbian equivalent of the Angry Video Game Nerd, the same actor (who co-founded the dubbing team in the first place) also voices Loopty, just like how Brandon voices both Blitz and Loopty in the original series.

Loona and Millie share the same VA, so Loona is given a different Balkan accent to help make the voices further distinct.

Several episodes are given new titles referencing well known Serbian literature.

Stolas is renamed "Buljina" which is the Serbian name for a type of owl known for wandering into urban areas and annoying people, very fitting.

The band Via listens to is renamed from Fuck You Dad to Go Fuck Yourself Dad.

The contract Robofizz holds up (the one with Mammon's signature) is fully translated and contains even more and harsher profanity than the original.

When Blitz throws Millie the van keys in Spring Broken her jump is accompanied by a Mario sound effect.

In line with the last one, the monster fish uses Bowser's roar from Mario 64.

Before we get the doodle sequence explaining the plan in episode 3 you can see writing on the whiteboard which reads "Don't look at this text, it moves" which it indeed does, likely due to issues with the sinking of it's movement to the camera movement in the original episode.

During Wally's commercial at the start of episode 4 instead of saying "where you make the things and I make the money" he says (translated, of course) "where you'll fare worse than Tesla with Edison" which is extra funny given that Tesla was Serbian.

The dub's versions of the cherubs share the first names of their VAs.

Dearie is even more condescending than her English counterpart.

Since they've only done the first 4 proper episodes this is all for now, but those folks have done one of the best dubbing jobs I've seen in indie animation.

I imagine Moxxie being the first to point it out and Blitz tells him off but later tells Stolas that Mox is right and they need a proper gig soon but Stolas just gives him a bunch of money and gaslights him about it.

Also, you know that I wrote this right before going to sleep when I forgot that the word "fulfillment" exists. The fuck is wrong with me?

Now Some More Stuff!!!

Every time Octavia tries to talk to Stolas he interrupts her before she can finish a sentence and reacts to what he assumes she was going to say, which is, of course, something that assumes she agrees with his self-pitying view of his life.

An inverse of the ending of Seeing Stars, as in, Loona's occasional aggression towards the rest of the team is resolved (at least partly) through her interaction both with Blitz and with Via.

I'm still working out the Harvest Moon Festival/Pain Games equivalent, but the idea is that Striker participates to act as a diversion for IMP and potentially someone else who could be after Stella and Octavia, speaking of them, they could be disguised as imps in this segment. Maybe Blitz and Moxxie compete together since Striker taunted them both (I like the idea that it takes Striker some time to respect either of them, making him slightly more dynamic and helping with Moxxie's arc and his dynamic with Blitz)

To clarify the last one, the mid segment of the show would have Blitz slowly realizing he's being exploited while he and the team search for the mother daughter duo since Stolas passive-aggressively threatened and/or guilt-tripped Blitz into feeling he has to find them.

Also, to give Mills some actual characterization and more chemistry with Moxxie, she has MAD shop skills, customizing IMP's weapons and later her family tell her she can't be in the Pain Games... Because she' been chosen as the lead organizer, which in Wrath's super rugged nature, means she literally constructs all the event courses herself.

More Song Ideas!

A comedy ensemble number with all of IMP in act 1 with them doing a regular hit.

Another comedic song with Blitz, Moxxie and Striker in the pain games, maybe Millie's family joins in during the chorus. While still comedic, this one would mainly develop Moxxie and to lesser extent, the other guys.

Of course, Stolas has a proper villain song (one that starts with him pouting that Via is mad that he forgot something she was excited for, Azatoth's Tears or otherwise). The song itself would have Stolas lament relatively small things in his life while saying that "Blitzy" makes him forget them, tacitly admitting that he views Octavia as a problem, and how he's happy that Blitz is his and his alone, and that that's perfectly just since it makes up for his own personal suffering.

Both a song and a joke, Moxxie tries to sing to Millie multiple times and gets interrupted each time. However, he only starts the song once, every other time he sings it it's actually the next verse, a non-live viewer could piece it together and the song could be a bonus on the soundtrack.

Rest assured, there will be more to come.

More ideas for "Helluva A Rewritten Musical":

Jokes, Running Gags and Story Moments With A Comedic Twist :

After the Ozzie's equivalent Stolas' actor would wear a different wig after every two scenes, with each having more grey feathers than the last, until, by his final scene, all his hair/feathers are grey

The first time we see the M&Ms is their morning routine, Millie enters the scene first, with curlers/rollers in her hair, then Moxxie enter with curlers/rollers in his hair AND in his sideburns.

Wally appears a few times, he's exactly the same as in the show but has a much deeper voice to contrast with the high-pitched, scratchy voice Don Darryl Rivera does in the actual series

We only see Andre once, during a half and half split of the stage to show his phone conversation with Stella, later, in hiding (Yes, I'm going with that idea for the time being), Via asks why they could ask him for help and Stella reveals he got in hot water for drunkenly hitting on one of his cousins.

If we go down the Strella route, we could have some early bonding when Striker hisses at a minor frustration and Stella very obviously finds it attractive, because both snakes and swans hiss as a defense mechanism. In response to this Octavia let's out a sharp exhale that ends up sounding like a hoot.

A member of IMP pointing out how little actual hits they've been carrying out since getting pulled into the divorce drama, poking fun at the show abandoning it's original premise, maybe build on it by having Stolas be the only character who doesn't seen an issue with that.

Song Ideas (The Good Stuff):

An opening number or at least early song where Blitz sings about how, by running his own business, he has freedom to make good life for himself. The song would immediately be followed by some form of bad news.

A flashback duet between young Stolas and Stella, meeting for the first time, promising to make their situation work. Stella's lyrics make it clear she hopes that she will find some form of personal fufilled-ness in the relationship, while Stolas' make it clear that he plans on taking every chance to distract himself from what will be his family.

Striker having a song where he tries to console Via, because he can tell that she is in no way personally responsible for the shit she's going through, big stepdad energy, slightly more comedic elements towards the end of the song. This would play into Striker's arc, realizing that not all royals ae truly malicious and finding sympathy for them because he comes to view them as too sheltered for their own good.

A climactic duet between Striker and Blitz, after Blitz realizes that Stolas is a complete shitsack, during the song they're fighting over a blessed revolver to see who gets to kill the jizz-soaked feather duster.

That's all I got for now, more to come :D

Very beautiful. Your mind. Your vision.

Especially the meta commentary I NEED that scene to happen

Literally not one person in the show has been confirmed to find Stolas attractive, and given the sheer number of jokes in this show that amount to someone using weird phrases to say that they want to fuck someone else, that's impressive.

"Stella forced herself on Stolas! She hates him because she hates the idea that he's not attracted to her!"

"Blitzø likes Stolas! He just acts like he doesn't because he's afraid of letting someone getting too close to him!"

Say it with me, everyone. . .

The real reason a "Fizz Show" couldn't work is because, outside of the episode where we see Ozzie and Fizz dealing with the consequences of officially becoming a couple, the writing has already exhausted all the story potential these characters have.

Fizz has mended his relationship with Blitz as far as it realistically could be mended, Ozzie has become more direct with saying what he thinks of Fizz's decisions and they'll get over Mammon together in their next feature episode.

At this point they're nothing but "cute quirky boyfriend" and "cute "cool" boyfriend" and have lost all of their appeal, at least to me.

People are talking about a Fizz centric spin off and I think that’s a really bad idea he and Oz are great but I just do not trust that their writing wouldn’t go off the deep end into shit territory

Literally everyone from Blitz's past will have two more episodes, at best, and then their stories will just be used as fodder to force drive Blitz to "make things right" with Stol-ass, bleugh. Fizz was a really interesting character to think about, but it's clear that the genuinely solid parts of his story were grafted onto the Stolitz "arc" and that his own story is essentially already over. :(

The best thing that came out of the series' detour into FizzarOzzie for the last two episodes is the unmatched perfection that is Mammon.

Can you imagine if in sinsmas Fizz has a Loona slip up moment where he says to mammon “shut up dad!!” And then he screams in horror at himself while Mammon is like 🤩 son!!

I doubt the Sins will actually be in the episode, but that would be fucking hilarious!

On the topic of Mam wanting to be a dad, here's something I realized:

Charlie is in her early-to-mid twenties, Blitz and Fizz are in their mid-to-late thirties, they're around 15 in the flashback at the beginning of the mid-season special, placing it around 20 years ago. This means that the first confirmed instance of Mammon wanting a kid happened around the time Charlie was born. Conclusion: He's a loving uncle, your honor. :)

Honestly It'd be a power move if Blitzø incinerated the Grimoire Infront of Stolas', effectively depowering him and turning him into the powerless, scared man he paints himself as.

Sorry it took a while to respond, It's been a chaotic week for me.

While I think that would be cool, I can safely say Stolas would lose his cool an petrify Blitz on the spot, and I don't think anyone wants that. Well, other than possibly Stolas, himself.

It's actually worse. Blitz's reaction is angry but mostly confused, as in he doesn't realize how Mammon can have such a lack of self awareness.

Whether the writers wanted it to or not, the show has taken the stance of: "Fat shaming is ok, so long as the person you're fat shaming is fatter than you." And I really hope I don't have to explain why that's awful.

Fans when Mammon fat shame Fizz:

What a fat shaming bastard!😡

Fans when Loona fat shame Moxxie:

Ha ha, Loona so funny lol!😂

Let Stella and Blitz lead us in making this pathetic fucking man suffer!

I'd actually really like to see a fic where they team up to take the prick down.

Also, are his feathers greying or not? Make up your damn mind, Vivienne.

Of-fucking-course you're pro-stella and anti-Stolas. Jesus fucking Christ... Hope you don't have a total meltdown when future positive episodes surrounding Stolas and Blitz get released.

I won't because I know that they're only happening because Vivienne wants them to and that realistically, Blitz would eventually snap out of the manipulation and get Stolas out of his life.

AUs and fics exist for many reasons, and one reason is that sometimes viewers who happen to be writers themselves can't tolerate the bad and in some instances potentially harmful writing in canon.

I know that the series won't give Stella a happy ending, that's exactly why I focus so much on her.

We know for a fact that Stolas was originally going to be a major villain in the series and was retconned into being "mIsgUIdEd" during the production of season 2. All this means Stella was more likely than not, originally framed as at least somewhat sympathetic by the narrative. The reason I point out the implied and/or inherent nuances to Stella's character is because they're an inevitable holdover from a version of the show that would have been far superior to the product we received.

The reason I'm pro-Stella is because she, as a character, deserved to be handled with more tact.

If you take that much of an issue with these stances, I suggest you just block, and move on with your day.
