i’m not pro-ship or anti-ship i am simply anti-censorship. i also believe that the owner of an online space can choose what they allow to be uploaded to that space. these are thoughts that can coexist.

Every single time I see a take that amounts to "if you write about X happening, or like fiction where X happens, you like X" I'm reminded of this one time I was at a casual friends house as a young kid. We were in her room, pretending to "be orphans" escaping from an evil orphanage and having to take care of each other and fend for ourselves. It was all very Little Orphan Annie/All Dogs Go to Heaven and based on the 80s pop media.

And this girl's mom comes in, hears what we're playing and gets all MAD and UPSET. She says that if we play act something, it's because we want it to happen. So her daughter must WANT HER TO DIE.

First off lady, we were 6 year year olds, so take it down several notches. We barely had a concept of mortality for fucks sake. She made us feel so guilty and ashamed, because she was taking our game personally.

Now I have a 5 year old. And sometimes she looks at me and says "pretend you're dead, and I have to -" Whatever it is. Some adult task she's assigned herself.

And it's just so transparently obvious that she's practicing the idea of having to do things on her own. Which is exactly what 5 year olds are supposed to do. I actually find it very flattering that the only way she can envision me not being available to help her is to be literally deceased. Otherwise, obviously, she wouldn't have to do scary hard things alone.

It's a natural coping mechanism. She's self-soothing about what would happen if I wasn't there by play-acting independence in a perfectly safe environment. She's also practicing skills she needs, and making up excuses for practicing them on her own, without taking on the responsibility of being able to do them by herself all the time yet.

Humans mentally rehearse bad this in their brains all the time. We can do that by ruminating- going over worries over and over again, which tends to lead to anxiety and helplessness and depression. Or we can do it with a sense of play- by recognizing that the fiction is fiction and we can dip our toe into these experiences and expose ourselves to bad things without actually being injured.

My daughter does not want me dead. And I don't want bad things to happen in real life. But fiction and pretend help me face the horrors of the world and think about them without collapsing or messing myself up mentally.

The other post I made about it was pretty vent-y so I'm going to make another one on the same subject, but;

Going into spaces specifically intended for the positive appreciation or enjoyment of something with the intent to be negative or the attempt to convert it to a negative space is both a shitty thing to do and it Will Not get you the result you want.

As one reblogger on the post said; Reddit is appalling for this, but Tumblr is already hot on its heels.

People create spaces around the things they enjoy because, well, they enjoy them. They want a space to create and share that enjoyment. They want a space where they can cycle that positivity into content and community.

These spaces are founded on the enjoyment of the source and the belief that it is good. TV shows, movies, books, games. These spaces are based on the pure fact that the people within them, by majority, like what they are consuming.

And obviously, that doesn't mean you can't be critical of aspects of it, or not like parts of it, or be disappointed with things that have happened. But the point is that the good should vastly outweigh the bad.

And if you're trying to wedge yourself into those positive spaces with the bad outweighing the good, that is not the space for you. That is not the purpose of the space, nor is it fair to the people who created that space with the intent of being positive.

It is not, by any means, toxic positivity to have a specific place designed to revolve around the enjoyment of and positive perception of something.

That place is not for you and your voice. Your voice does not have the right to speak over theirs within that space. Positive spaces are not obligated to allow you to speak within them.

You're not going to change minds by being negative in those positive spaces. You're just going to make people avoid you and dislike you and be unwilling to listen to what you have to say.

As a proshipper, what's the one thing you can't personally abide by in fiction? For whatever reason.

Mine is het-bending M/M or F/F ships. Or turning one character FTM in a very, very thinly veiled attempt to het-bend.

Its to the point where I'll usually send fics I'm suspicious of to a friend to "pussy proofread."

Sometimes it sucks being in or orbiting fandoms because like

I don't ship things anymore. Here and there, there's a pair that I just like art content about them in general and have other characters I don't mind seeing them paired with

But overall I just don't ship much anymore?

I keep forgetting that people have lives outside of fandom spaces. Like there’s people on this site and others that have jobs and relationships and stuff and we know nothing about it.

I just found out that Ao3 was called that because there are 3 o’s in the name. Apparently that was common knowledge, but it just never clicked for me.

I think the reason I prefer wincest spaces over destiel spaces even though I do enjoy both ships boils down to an average difference in approach when it comes to canon v fanon. Cesties tend to operate in a realm of suspended disbelief. Most just do not care if it’s a canon thing, if it’s widely accepted to be true, or even if it’s liked by the majority of fans. They just enjoy the ship for the expansion that it is and what text is given in show. Ofc they do care about canon wincest, but it’s just not the Focus because we know the brothers and their relationship (romantic or not) will always be the core of spn. Hellers on the other hand have this incessant need to Prove that their ship is real—that Dean and cas are canonically in a reciprocal, non-platonic love, and that it’s an undeniable Fact Of Canon. It’s unfathomable how anyone could watch the show and not see what they see. It’s less fun in my opinion

So apparently KOSA (2024 edition) is getting either thrown out until next year or put into effect in six days.

Update that's going in the main post at the top: it has enough support to pass.

It failed the last two times because people were voting against it.

This time, KOSA has traction among the pro-LGBTQ parties. Because nobody is fucking calling their bullshit and screaming from the rooftops that calling it the "Kids Online Safety Act" is misleading.

What will it passing do?

Nothing much, only prevent any education on LGBTQIA+ (it's that stupid fucking argument about us grooming kids again), shut down nearly every fandom space on the internet, and make it required for most big tech companies to have your ID.

Want to have resources for kids to discover their identity readily available? Yes? Then fucking speak up against this stupid fucking bill.

Fandom spaces like Tumblr, Twitter (? I thought the MAGA assholes liked Musk?), Tiktok, Archive Of Our Own, and any other website that hosts fanfic or fanart? Either shut down permanently, forced to uproot to a different country and down for a while (best case scenario, and they likely won't be able to send any data, and therefore fanfics, to the US), or gutted so that you only get to put G rated cishet ships on there, if any shipping at all. How to avoid that? I've already said it: Call your fucking representatives.

Want to avoid the fucking dystopic task of being legally obligated to give big tech your government issue ID? Again, cause an uproar. Call your goddamned representatives.

If they can pass this, the ripple effects could be catastrophic.

So, for fuck's sake, any Americans that can impact this stupid fucking bill and see this? Do everything in your power to shut it down because you have until February twenty sixth (26th) to send this bill back to where it belongs.

And if you can't do that? Reblog, copy my tags, and boost the signal.

Sorry not sorry for ranting, making you scroll through that, and swearing a probably excessive amount, but KOSA is a bill with a GLOBAL IMPACT being passed by ONE COUNTRY because some old people are scared of two guys with who were told they were girls kissing within five hundred miles of a child. Fuck this shit, I shouldn't have to worry about bad bills in America but I fucking do because I use the internet and would like to avoid mass censorship. Fuck this, fuck conservatives, and fuck the fact that some boomers make your country's policies.

Now, if you won't mind me, I'm going to be up until three in the morning downloading fanfiction or copying and pasting them into a a text file if I can't so I can read them by the end of the week.

80 Examples of Fandom Antiblackness

Imagine all of these things being a possibility every single time you log in to your 'escape'!

To my Black readers: You are VALID! You are not sensitive, not 'overreacting', and you had every right to be hurt by the way you've been treated. These are not isolated events! And if people won't stop being racist, they should continue to feel uncomfortable for being so!

To my nonBlack readers: You are not an ally for NOT doing these things, but for STANDING AND SPEAKING UP when they do.

(So APPARENTLY Tumblr won't let you zoom in on Desktop, but I put the lists in the Image Description! Sorry 😬 i did not know Tumblr doesn't allow zoom in on desktop. It's easier to zoom in on mobile.)

Appendix: 80 Examples of Anti-Black Racism in Fandom

General Experiences

1. “As a teenager: Made a post about not whitewashing a character. Got derailed. Character got accused of transphobia, to which I replied that has nothing to do with whitewashing them because of it. Started an anon hate campaign falsely accusing me of ‘canceling them’. Said they ‘weren’t racist because they’re Hispanic’.”

2. “Maybe I would have felt more if [Rue] had been white.” The idea that she was no longer deserving of empathy, love, or rage over her murder. As someone who saw herself and her sisters in Rue, it was super enlightening in helping me see how little people actually care about us.”

3. “2021; I was condescended to on the Jedi Council forums by a fan who argued that just because Ahmed Best refuted the idea that Jar Jar Binks was a racist caricature, any critique from SW’s Black fanbase or media critics on the opinion were meaningless.” [A/N: The Star Wars fandom was repeated often]

4. “A white artist decided [to] ‘support Black people’ during [the] BLM protests… by drawing her self-insert as [temporarily] Black. Tried to sell racist adoptables later, one of which was a Black character based off the coconut warriors in Moana…”

5. “I was accused of glorifying dark-skinned people (‘all hail the darksins’) by a nonblack Chinese person on twitter. This person has fits about Black fans, because calling out artists for whitewashing… ‘drove away’ all their favorite artists, making them ‘lonely’. They made an account ‘representing the wrath of the fandom’ and used it to harass Black fans and any nonblack fans that supported them.”

6. "A white woman attacked a Black person for calling her out on referring to a Black coded character as a ‘chocolate angel’ due to racial fetishization. Made the excuse her husband was Black.”

7. “I sent a very calm DM explaining to a popular Chinese fanartist that whitewashing Hades Patroclus via realistic portrait was not okay. They’d drawn him Black before, so I could not fathom the choice! I was bitchily told that I need to block them, that it was ‘just the lighting’. They apparently made their pinned post of screenshots about me, how they ‘have never been racist’, and how dumb I was. To this day I don’t get how I’M the bad guy when that portrait was a whole different, white man lmao.”
8. “I was called a ‘hyena that needed to be leashed’ because I would regularly speak out against whitewashing, racial stereotypes, and purposeful exclusion of Black fans from large fandom events. Apparently a large group of Black people… talking about racism as soon as they happen means we’re ‘looking for a reason to be upset and tear down nonblack fans’.”

9. “I saw a post by a queer fan mentioning how it was antiblack racism that a Black male character was never allowed to show femininity. I agreed, but I also made the argument that Black men in general are not written well even when they’re masculine (that our society thinks of Black men as a threat and ‘overmasculine’ and it shows) and so they all need to be written better overall. Never got a response. Odd how people throw ‘racism’ around to sound ‘woke’ and ‘passionate’ but then won’t converse with real Black fans on the topic when it’s time to back it up. Almost like you didn’t know what you were talking about.”

10. “Old Naruto fic [on ff.net]… they meet a person they dub a “demon”. Dark skin, coiled hair, big red lips, the whole shebang, and they were frightened to the point of Attacking on sight. I dropped it there for obvious reasons, but it’s always sat with me.”

11. “… within the last 3 years or so, saw someone on Tumblr make a Viera FF14 oc whose story [was] that she was so dark-skinned that it was seen as a curse, to the point where her village painted a big white X on her face and kept her hidden away. And the skintone wasn’t even as dark as it could get in the character creator.”

12. [Had an entire Carrd full of false accusations created about them ‘compiling all their wrongdoings’ (oddly apologizing for the awkward Carrd name) and accusing them of racism towards ‘Us pacific islanders’ due to pointing out antiblack racism within the Bad Batch fandom]

13. “when the co-creator of Dreamwidth told people- with no proof whatsoever- that Stitch was a racist and derailed/misrepresented EndOTWRacism (which they aren’t associated with) just because they cited them and their work.” [A/N: submitted three times]

14. “when a Reylo publicly admitted to trying to get the cops called on Stitch for ‘stalking’ her… reached out to everyone associated with Vogue and Teen Vogue to get them fired… and again, filed a police report against someone who has never spoken to them.” [A/N: submitted three times]

15. “The ‘censorship [on AO3] is a slippery slope’ topic to minimize the existence and experience of racism in a ‘beloved’ fan space when Black people bring it up.”
16. “I made the mistake of engaging with Finnrey denial when a TFA trailer dropped. I pointed out that interracial relationships do in fact exist and I am the result [of one]. It was then whitesplained to me that I was projecting and my perception of the relationship was biased and therefore invalid.”

17. “Denying instances of antiblackness and calling anyone speaking up… ‘delusional’ or ‘hostile’ while making their own biased definition of racism to be the only valid ones.”

18. “Going above and beyond to excuse or minimize creators’ antiblackness while tone policing those affected.”

19. “Being called a ‘hater’ or a ‘killjoy’ for highlighting antiblackness.”

20. “Being told to be happy there is even Black rep at all when pointing out characters being textbook racist stereotypes written.”

21. “The OFMD Pirate Poll debacle.”

22. “That time someone wrote a poem that was basically ‘I’m not an anti-racist if I have to be like [you angry Black and Brown women]’ and blazed it in response to the EOTWR campaign. Shit was baffling- if you’re an anti-anti-racist, that means you’re a racist lol.”

23. “Days after attempting to restart my Tumblr a few years ago, I got a racist NON-anon message and reblogs making shit up about not just my fandom life but my personal life and relationship with my family members.”

24. “People also thought it was bad writing that Louis and Claudia [from AMC’s IWTV] were sitting at the back of the bus away from Lestat forgetting that segregation is still a thing [at the time].”

25. “The vile racism during and after the episode when Lestat beat Louis.”

26. "open harassment of fans who drew Trucy [from Ace Attorney] Black.”

27. “a Black cosplayer who cosplayed Athena Cykes was harassed.”
28. “the headcanon of Lotta Hart [being] Black because in the English localization she’s pretty much the stereotype of the uneducated Southerner (I don’t mind any of the characters being hced as Black, it’s just the *reasons*)… and the jokes they make are racist.”

29. “[in the 2010s] it was suspicious to me that Phoenix Wright was only ever drawn Black during the ‘h*bo’ phase. It reveals how they view and connect the poor and how they view Black people.”

30. “2018ish I was browsing my fandom tag… and one post was just flat out tagged with the n word, hard r and everything. The folks in the ship are not Black or human… former mutuals who I saw liked and shared the post ignored me when I voiced my anger.”

31. “Once when I was 12, I tried to make a Black fic writers group… within a week… the comment section was flooded with the N-word and other slurs. I deleted the group and all my fics from the site.”

32. “No one wants to [discuss] how bad black people got it when it comes to hairstyles in RPGs. Every time I say something I get told that they [the devs] come from a different culture or they’re different from Western media/devs, they don’t buy into that woke bullshit, or my favorite well, there aren’t black people in this world. Like, this game takes place in a world where people eat dragon hearts, fight god, and all kinds of fantastical bullshit but someone with 4C hair running around is where you draw the line?”

33. “People trying to fan for Mellie to be lead on Scandal despite it literally being for Kerry and originally based on a black woman. Same with Katrina on Sleepy Hollow when Abbie was literally destined.”

34. “I didn’t watch TVD but even ik they disrespected Bonnie’s entire character.”

35. “I’m in a Bridgerton fb group and just the amt of disrespect the character Marina, Edwina, and the Duke somehow receive almost feels scripted.” [A/N: Marina and the Duke are Black]

36. “the way [Supergiant] have patroclus and apollo with 2c hair when they’re darkskinned ‘black’ men. Like that makes any damn sense.”

37. “I distinctly remember the racist backlash against the character Kayla Watts in Jurassic World Dominion. Though she’s a completely original character she still faced scorn when we didn’t even know her role in the movie yet!”
38. “It’s the way it’s “never that deep” when I’m talking about something’s racial undertones or fucked up implications when its about blackness and black characters, but everything is so deep whenever its about white characters. Everyone’s favorite white boy can be complicated and we can all spend months analyzing that shirt he wore in episode 15 in season 4 because its all so connected to his trauma… narrative themes… how so and so is queer coded… how the writers messed up… when a character is white, but when I say its fucked up that the only black characters in the show get targeted the most, get the least amount of development, never get to be soft or afraid, or get villainized for wanting things white characters don’t understand then I’m crazy or its never that deep.”

39. “Drew humanized versions of characters and made them black. On twitter, facebook, and Instagram I’d get comments of people calling my designs ‘n**** [character].”

40. “went on the wiki of a piece of media and someone edited it to say that character could use the n word because their bones are black.”

41. “fell out of love with cosplay because again I could not escape comments about being the n****/ghetto version of that character, a monkey, and other antiblack slurs.” [A/N: antiblackness and the fear of it in cosplay spaces was repeated often]

42. “was in a fairly niche RP group a few years ago, had a couple of friends and a couple of weirdos in it. One of them had an OC based on hp lovecraft, and I wasn’t really into the guy or the OCs they made, but it was whatever. At the times the mun of the OC would make tasteless “jokes” and suggestions to look stuff up about hp lovecraft’s cat, which, as you may or may not know (I didn’t at the time) had the n slur (hard r) as its name.” [A/N: antiblackness in roleplay spaces was repeated often; the cat’s name was ‘N*****-Man’]

43. “That time that I made a lighthearted post about being happy there were Black people in the new Game of Thrones prequel House of the Dragon, and a racist replied that Black people don’t need to be in every piece of media. And then they called me the N-word.”

44. “I was in the tlou2 fandom (I felt because the creator of the game was a zionist) and we had, like, a fanfic-gate. Writers were complaining about the lack of diversity as most fics were catered to white readers (i.e. “y/n blushed” “ran his fingers through y/n’s hair”) and their concerns were shut down. Pov creators dealt with racist anons and it’s still something in the Fandom today.”
45. “As a Tolkien… Silmarillion [fanperson], almost every site besides tumblr is unusable due to rampant racism but there’s a Weirder trend here that still makes me really uncomfortable. Tumblr silm fandom loves to make characters black without touching any cultural differences, they’ll be black (and never *too* black) but talk like white people, act like white people and follow like… medieval Europe codes of honour. And then what even is the point, it feels like blackface not representation.”

46. “So Larian and the BG3 fandom can fall in love with Astarion and generate content update after content update… about him and his trauma, but Wyll gets *checks notes* No new updates that flesh out his character or fix any of his bugs, a personality built ogg passivity, no agency in his feelings, no serious acknowledgement of his trauma by the narrative or the fandom, lets not even get into the fact that despite appearing in a decent amount of fics he kind of only exists to prop up another ship (always an angel, never a god and all that shit), oh, and a crush on the white wom- I mean cambion that enslaved his soul and kept tabs on him 24/7. If the only way black characters can exist in…fiction is through becoming a doormat or means to promote another relationship then take us out I’m being so serious this is not it.”

47. “American Girl fans either disparage the black characters repeatedly or tokenize them to the point of caricature. Attempts to discuss racism in the fandom- ranging from the issues of all white collections to people taking items for black dolls for white ones- is met with ‘this is my place to not think about politics’ or ‘it’s just toys, stop being so serious about people having fun’. Black voices that don’t play colorblind are either ignored or actively suppressed even as the collectors insist that they care and ‘learned so much’ about history from dolls.”

48. “Franzeska’s entire run in the OTW and on Tumblr. From minimizing antiblack fandom racism down to ‘bitterness over Black characters not being fandom’s favorite’, to claiming that the only way anyone will care about Black actors and their characters is ‘if they’re in a lot of movies over time (like the MCU)’, to supporting asks claiming that ‘Black people are ironically stealing white culture by starring in ‘white’ roles instead of the stories of the African continent because they value their own stuff less’; it’s all vile. And this was someone with POWER in a major hub of fandom, spouting antiblack drivel and being lauded for it (by fans that probably think they ALSO aren’t racist)!”

49. “To be honest, this is why I don’t dive into fandom anyway. White people are racist. They always are. I just laugh at them, and me and my other Black friends are going to talk shit about you. And when they get upset that you called them out- fuck you! Shouldn’t have got on here and said some dumb ass shit. It’s D&D, I’ll do what the fuck I want!”

2. -When I was in the mcyt fandom it was sooo sooo uncomfortable it felt like I was a token black person or smth and constantly being looked to for my take on drama… and grown white men being racist. Mind you I was like 14.-

3. -this is a blanket fandom thing too but the over masculinization of black characters is a HUUUUGE one. Especially black men who are BARRED from being feminine/desirable in ANYY WAY…um les mis fandom in general actually. Yall are weird w black people.-

4. -I want to get back into cosplay- but the horror stories I’ve heard and seen- it doesn’t feel like a safe space anymore- and I don’t want to be limited to only black spaces-

5. -fell out of the stranger things fandom so hard when I saw how they was still treating Lucas like nothin- antiblackness make any content disgusting tbh- [A/N: The Stranger Things fandom was repeated often]

6. -Fandom has and will always prioritize the comfort and need for escapism from white fans than the treatment of people of color-

7. -Not so funfact but I’m no longer in the dangan and yttd fandom because of racism- I literally had to delete my old socials so ppl would leave me tf alone- it sucked so badly-

8. -Ive even pulled away from talking to some of my white mutuals… it’s really nothing personal towards them- I just am not experiencing [fandom] the same way they are and that leads us to have vastly different experiences and interpretations of media… the insight my Blackness gives me is a blind side for non Black people… and because they aren’t willing to unpack that it affects how Black people in fandom are able to be present-

9. -…I stopped being into kpop because of the racism- it’s the whole industry- and they profit from black culture…-

10. -someone I thought was a good friend of mine committed quite a few microaggressions when I was trying to set a boundary with them… and then I tried to tell one of my other friends about it and they were having a hard time understanding why I was hurt lmfao. This shit gets exhausting bruh.-
11. -white ppl in fandom spaces wont even admit to being racist if u point it out- ‘just find another space!’ and why don’t u wanna examine the racism present in ur space-

12. -I have left so many fandoms… I don’t even bother joining new ones to avoid dealing with racism- also being a black metalhead is hell- I have to do a background check of every band I listen to to make sure they arent racist or nazis- I just want to enjoy things like other people… share… without my literal existence being deemed a political statement- black people exist in the same world as you do- we are allowed to exist in media too-

13. -when there’s finally a good franchise with black (and other!) people in it- and you think hey I can enjoy this fandom- but you have to dredge the Ao3 to get non-racist results- and good luck on finding a fic where their blackness isn’t dexterously ignored but actually plays a part in the fabric of the narrative?-

14. -SO MANY SPACES ARE SO APPROPRIATIVE OF BLACK CULTURE WHILE BLATANTLY EXCLUDING BLACK FANS- ITS ABHORRENTLY DISGUSTING- so many people feel entitled to black stories while ignoring black voices-

Direct Quotes

1. “Tbh I don’t really agree with whitewashing or blackwashing (whitewashing so much more jfc) but I do think that it’s important that poc feel important and validated too!” [A/N: proceeded to ask artist on their opinion of a ‘poc character’]

2. “So while yes, Black/brown anime characters are often drawn larger than the average Asian character… that’s just realistic.”

3. “The lack of good female/POC characters is absolutely valid, because this is FANDOM. We’re here because of passion, and inspiration, and those are hard to come by when you have nothing good to work with.”

4. “And fans who make queer art are overwhelmingly queer, themselves, whether they know it yet or not. Figuring out you’re a whole other race than what you thought, however, is not a thing that happens.”

5. “Not everyone is going to do their research into ‘what POC can be like in relationships’ (how would a 15 y/o fic writer even do that???) just for 2.5k words of smut.”
6. “I remember Racefail ’09… It did a lot of good, but it also caused many white/non-Black/non-Indigenous ppl who were around to take it seriously to internalize /avoiding/ making content about races/cultures that weren’t ours as a /virtue/. Bc yes, unconscious biases will appear, and no amount of research will ever be enough to make it worthwhile for ppl outside a race/culture to tell certain stories about them.”

7. “I’ll be sure to write all Black ppl as being the smallest bottoms with the tiniest dicks to avoid being racist from now on. We’ve made real progress here.” [A/N: quotes 2-7 are from the same account and discussion of lack of/mistreatment Black characters; also contained strong evidence of Chinese fetishization not covered under the scope of this list.]

8. “We all know this would start with racism, elevate to issues of age of consent, and then probably escalate to sensitive content… racism is the issue of the day…”

9. “So n****rfying is ok now? Cool, let me start whitewashing characters because we just decided that changing races is ok.”

10. “You have way too much time on your hands. Time to repeal the 13A and get your asses back to those cotton fields, n****r.”

11. “okay, like but what happens to those people who are white that have also got very large lips? And all I can say is to suck it up princess, because it’s not like these artist are saying the n word or saying offensive stuff, so just let artist draw how they want, there’s nothing wrong with it.” [A/N: in reference to Jim Crow lips on Black characters]

12. “…why is that, when there’s an m/m ship with a POC and a white character, the POC one has to be a bottom because otherwise the writer and whoever enjoyed the fic is racist? I’ve seen it happen in multiple fandoms and they all bring out shit like ‘imperialist culture’ and other vague, rambling explanations written by social media activists who spent too much time online, which are really not fucking answers, are they? So, from someone who has spent most of their life in fandoms in which the main m/m ships were white… could someone with more expertise give me a better view of this part of fandom wank?” [A/N: this anon was sent to a white, former OTW board member]

13. “…In a ship with two white guys, one of whom is a buff jock and one of whom is a willowy nerd, the willowy nerd will generally be Fandom’s Favorite. If you happen to like the buff jock better, it can be kind of irritating to see that 99% of the fic doesn’t really care about his feelings and assumes the reader is vastly more invested in the other dude… It can make a person feel alone and unseen. Now multiply that annoyance with identity stuff that makes it-
-feel actively hurtful and meaningful. People phrase it as being about topping and bottoming, often because it’s easy to browbeat people over writing a racist stereotype of a Black guy with a big dick (never mind that this stereotype is pretty specific and the characters may not actually be of identities where it applies or where the fic writer is likely to apply it). But what they frequently are really getting at is: I want my fave to be fandom’s.” [A/N: this was the relevant antiblack portion of the white former OTW board member’s response to #12.]

TRIGGER WARNING FOR THE Explicit Violence SECTION- Mentions of Sexual Assault and Violence

Explicit Violence

1. “There was an rp starter that said ‘Whoever invented the pout ought to be lynched’. This was called out, because you shouldn’t make light of a word that refers to extrajudicial mob murder that is still utilized to terrorize Black people… [was told] ‘it’s not racist because that word doesn’t mean that here’ and ‘I asked my Black history teacher [in Europe] if the word relates to that and he didn’t know’ and ‘you can’t blame us for not knowing how Americans use it’.

2. “[The ‘chocolate angel’ woman] was later caught saying she wanted to dissolve the Black fan in acid. Was driven out, but came back later due to less vocal opposition.”

3. “From 2021 into 2022, (mostly) white Star Wars fans sexually/harassed, gaslit, cyber stalked, and lied to and about me because I called out the racism in the popular series Star Wars: The Bad Batch. I was also repeatedly called slurs.”

4. “A conversation in Old Guard fandom about orientalism and islamophobia towards the character Joe took a turn into antiblackness when a person reblogged it claiming that racism is sexy, and gave the example of a book they had found hot that involved a [slaveowner] white woman raping a black enslaved man (…given the power dynamic inherent to that relationship, I am [calling it rape]) and that the racist descriptions of him were part of the ‘transgressiveness’ of the sex scene.”

I'm gonna be honest, when I first heard about headcanon alphabets, I genuinely thought there would be a hc alphabet specifically for the characters personality. When I found out that was only 3 (romantic sfw, nsfw and agere) I was baffled, cuz like, how could y'all think of a sexual headcanon alphabet and none for our characters themselves? What?? *Asexual indignation.*

So, I decided to coin this alphabet. Because we need it. But please, read the warnings and disclaimers after this alphabet, they might be important (90% of chances it will /hj).

Beware, under the cut:

The General Headcanons Alphabet

A- Amused (How does their sense of humour look like? Is it broken?):

B- Brave (How brave are they? How sensitive are they to graphic scenes, also?):

C- Creative (How creative are they? Are they creative to the point of being able to create entire worlds, or they can't come up with the most basic gambiarra?):

D- Disability, Disorder or Divergence (Does this character has a disorder of any kind? A disability or a neurodivergence?):

E- Emotional (Are they emotional and sensitive, or a stone-hearted person? What are their levels of empathy?):

F- Fearful (What are their deepest fears?):

G- Gender (Self explanatory):

H- Hate (What do they dislike with a burning passion?):

I- Inside Angel (How strong is their sense of justice? What are their morals?)

J- Jelly Jam (What makes them nostalgic? What was their favourite thing as a kid?):

K- Kisser (What is their orientation? Lesbian, gay, straight, etc.?):

L- Love (What do they like, what are their interests?):

M- Mornings (How are they like, waking up? Are they a morning person?):

N- Nights (How are they like, when they're going to sleep? Do they sleep easily, or are there nights where they can't even close their eyes?):

O- Object (Comfort object that they have, or an object that has a big emotional importance to them, if they got any.):

P- Positive (How optimistic are they?):

Q- Questioner (How curious are they?):

R- R.E.N (What is their race? Do they have an ethnic background of any kind? And what is their nationality, by the way?):

S- Self (Is their self-steem low or high? What do they see when they look in the mirror and what do they think about themselves?):

T- Trauma (Do they have trauma of any kind? What is it, and/or how did it affect them?):

U- Unbiased (From the Brazilian popular saying “oblems, oblems, oblems, each one with their own problems” to tiktok conservatives, how much do they care or have an option on what other people are doing, as long as they aren't hurting themselves and others?):

V- Vigilant (How trusting are they?):

W- Wild Card (The most random headcanon you have about them!):

X- X, the treasure marker (How persistent are they when searching for their goals and dreams?):

Y- Yappa, Yappa, Yappa (Are they talkative? Or do they listen more?):

Z- Zen (How far will their patience go? And what drives them into rage?):

Disclaimers:

This alphabet was made with both headcanons and ocs in mind, so, if something seems off, it might be because of it.

When going for the r.e.n. part, PLEASE know how to differentiate ethnicity, race and nationality. Ethnicity has no impact on race now with nationality, because it is about what cultural group you are apart of.

If you are using this for headcanons and you don't headcanon an specific piece differently from canonic (i.e.: “A- Amused”: Character canonically laughed at the wind and you don't headcanon anything different from that.), you can mention that it's not different from canon.

Btw, latinoamerican and Judaism are ethnicities (+ethno religion, in the case of the Jews), and not races. I need to say this for the 10th billionth time, because most of you are white and United Stadian or European, and most of y'all don't understand this basic piece of information! /Light hearted, but very disappointed.

The R.E.N. section was also made with original characters in mind, mostly. So if you're using it for fandom character hcs, avoid whitewashing non white characters, because I'm also a person of colour.

Someone already did something like this before me, but when I saw it, this post was already under production. But I'd like to give credits to @tranzfalgar for having the original idea.

For all, these are all the warnings needed. Enjoy this template!

one of the reasons i like felix is becuse i know he was abused and he knew his cousin was abused, they had no autonmy, they were pupets, they were dolls to thieir parents, expected to be like dolls forced to be puppetts.

its also heavily implied that he was physicaly abused, and that his mother was force to mary this afwul violent man for finacial/buisness/contionoing legacy purpose, which hits to close to home.

i already reallllllyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy loved his charecter before but in the episode where snaps evryone out of existance exept kids like him.

but it's the phrase he says

" we are not monster, they are"

that got me, becuse i used to think i was a monster and not my abusers, not the people who hurt me, not the people who watched and did nothing , ME, i was the monster.

ofc i stoped beliving that before episode aired but it just got me

and then he just snaps the abusers out of existenace, and he snaps evryone out of existance, he lets down he facde and grins as he watches humanity snap out of existance, as aroom full of people who

call themselfs kings and queens, who ruled forcruely for way to long , that a mob came with it brought a guilotine, he was the mob and he was the guilotine and he dances, he sings, he sings and evryone hears the song from a soul who had never had his voice, he sing a melody amoung the noise of the world and finally, after all this time all that reamins is .... quiet . all that reamins is him , his people, and his quiet.

snaping your abusers out of existance sounds like such a fantasy.

i love him so much, i would, inded to go mad. in his position

So apparently KOSA (2024 edition) is getting either thrown out until next year or put into effect in six days. That was a guesstimate based on a different person saying that's when Congress is back in session and may be false.

Update that's going in the main post at the top: it has enough support to pass Congress.
