“If you believe, as I do, that the state of the world is inextricably linked to our minds, that the external is a reflection of the internal, our minds are not in great shape. Every act of kindness, then, is not merely a sign of personal virtue. It’s saving the planet—the ultimate fusion of environmentalism, spirituality, compassion and common sense.”

—Josh Radnor

Encountering some narcissistic individuals may be part of “the process…”

…showing us how not to be

…becoming aware of karma

…more appreciation when we are not with people who are like that

…being mindful of our own behaviour (our words, actions & intentions)

also maybe it’s just bc i have a very autistic interest in sociology and human behavior but i like to understand why people think and behave the way they do. it’s been an asset to my ability to advocate for myself and for others. if i know why someone believes something rather than just what they believe, i can have an actual conversation with them. so it always boggles my mind when ppl insist it doesn’t matter why someone believes something, they’re Just Wrong And Should Change Their Mind. like yeah if i could snap my fingers and make someone not transphobic i’d do that but i live on planet earth so the only thing that is gonna potentially get someone to change their mind as long as they’re not too far gone is having an honest conversation with them. i have changed several minds this way, including my own parents, so it’s frustrating to see ppl discouraging this.

It’s also far more exhausting, you see, humans were built for a very specific kind of hunting which I can’t remember the name off which involved following the creature until it gave up, keeled over and died.

In order to perform this better, we evolved to utilise 2 legs and a very specific walk that involves sorta just falling into our next step which is incredibly energy efficient allowing us to cover far greater distances than most animals without needing to take a break.

4 legs on the other hand is more optimised for speed and other aspects rather than walking.

Humans and the masters of walking, not the 4 or more legged other animals.

If I was wrong, feel free to correct me.

being 4 legged probably feels good as hell you're literally made to be twice as good at walking around. and baby i love walking around

There was a study by the Max Planck Institute about fear of snakes and spiders that measured pupil dilation in babies that were shown photos of various dangerous animals, and found that they responded more to snakes and spiders than other animals. their conclusion was that fear is hardwired.

But I also remember reading a study that showed babies actually preferred toys that looked like snakes and spiders (and elephants, iirc) compared to other toys, and didnt show signs of aversion at all until parents used "scary" vocal tones during play with those toys. Their conclusion was that babies are hardwired to notice bugs and snakes, but whether that becomes confidence or fear is almost entirely based on culture.

I can't find the latter study after reading it something like 10 years ago, but maybe you'll have better luck?

I remember it, but can't find it either. However, what both things actually seem to point to is simply that our *attentiveness is elevated* around those animals. The first study never actually says that the babies reacted with fear even, just that they looked more carefully at snakes and spiders. An increased curiosity, which would just be useful in learning which ones are dangerous and how to be careful around them. It's a shame even the authors concluded from it that we're "naturally afraid" because that really wasn't what they described finding :(

“I mean, a part of it is also just entering the unknown and not being stagnated [sic]. I totally know about this view that, you know, computer music has no soul. But I’ve always felt that if you put soul into your music, then there’s soul in your music; if you don’t put soul in your music, then there’s no soul in your music. You cannot rely on a computer, or a violin, or a guitar to do it for you—it won’t, you have to do it.”

So, a while ago I figured out that video games can kind of answer what kind of struggles you face in your actual life.

When I realized this, I was playing Hatsune Miku and noticed I'm decent at most the hard and extreme songs, but I refuse to play them unless I can get a perfect chain on them. It's so bad, that even Cantarella's extreme and extra-extreme is unplayed despite me being able to play both of them. Like, I can learn pretty much all the songs, but if there's even one part I can't play, I won't play it at all.

That told me, just like in real life, I'm scared of failure even if I'll do 99% well on it. If it's not 100% (perfect) then I will just leave it until I rot and die.

I really hate that I'm like this.

But, on a less painful note, I also noticed that in games like The Legend of Zelda, I'm cheap as hell and will wait until the very last second before spending my rupees. Aka, in the older games, I would wait until my counter was max before buying potions or upgrades of items.

In the later games, I would avoid spending at all until I got the wallet upgrades and even then scarcely would I spend my money.

I think what that is relates more to me being perpetually broke irl. I'm scarce with my money because I know I should keep as much as I can for... whatever I may need.

Also, a not so good bonus is that I will play through most the Zelda games without potions or other healing items (like I usually play hero mode first if I can). Even in games where I have a potion in my inventory, I just won't use it when Link's health is low rip me in A Link To The Past. I think that means even irl I will destroy myself before even thinking about asking for help, which is obviously a terrible way to live :)

Being a pretty woman is really tough especially when it's comes to making friendships with other women. In most female friendships I had in my life either that woman sees me as a competition or tries to sabotage my confidence. It's always the same case and I am tired of this bullshit. Now I am no longer looking for friendships. I stick to myself. Sticking to yourself initially feels uncomfortable but it's peaceful.
