Truths and Myths: Pluralpedia Part 4, Alter Roles.

Truths And Myths: Pluralpedia Part 4, Alter Roles.

And at the same time

Truths And Myths: Pluralpedia Part 4, Alter Roles.
Truths And Myths: Pluralpedia Part 4, Alter Roles.

A part that is designed to hold trauma, known as an emotional part, may remain stuck at the age when the trauma occurred. This can be part of the process in which the individual part repeatedly relives the trauma or unconsciously reenacts it in their actions when taking executive control, even though the trauma has ended but they are unaware. As a result, they are unable to age past the age of the trauma. Later in therapy, trauma can be processed and this can relieve that part from their need to be fixed in time

Further discussed in Van der Hart, Nijenhuis, and Steele’s book (2006) “The Haunted Self: Structural Dissociation and the Treatment of Chronic Traumatization”. The authors disscuss a patient whose child emotional part would reenact situations from the trauma in an attempt to prevent it from happening again. Additionally, they discuss that some emotional parts can experience severe nonrealisation therefore that part may literally experience themselves as being the age they are stuck at, in the book this is used in context of child parts.

Truths And Myths: Pluralpedia Part 4, Alter Roles.

According to the NHS (2024) website on eating disorders, there are many potential causes for them, including various traumas. An individual experiencing an eating disorder or in recovery may also experience trauma or stress, on a psychological, physical, and social level. As a result, an alter may split due to the eating disorder as parts are fragmented due to trauma. This alter may serve as a protective/caretaker part, ensuring the survival of the body, but it may also be a part that has split off due to denial of the eating disorder. This part may be used by the brain to hide the parts of the individual that are heavily affected by the trauma of the eating disorder.  This can also allow the affected parts to recover at their own pace, as they are aware that the body will be fine. However, this alter may also serve as an unhelpful crutch, causing other parts to believe that they do not need to recover or are not ready to do so. In reality, it is crucial for all parts to recover in order to aid in trauma healing and move towards a more sustainable life. Relying too heavily on one part can result in their exhaustion as they will be using their available resources to focus and take care of the needs of others. If this is their only role, it may result in a lack of self-awareness of their own needs, making it difficult for them to meet them. This point is supported by Van der Hart, Nijenhuis, and Steele's book (2006) "The Haunted Self: Structural Dissociation and the Treatment of Chronic Traumatization" when discussing caretaker parts in systems. It is important to allow a part to take a break, otherwise they may begin to dread their role or task, leading to unpleasant or even stressful experiences. Therefore, it is necessary for parts to have the capability to share responsibility for tasks, even if only for a short time, to give the main part a chance to rest, another reason why recovery for those parts heavily affected should be encouraged. This idea and self-care is discussed more in W AT’s book “Got Parts: An Insider’s Guide to Managing Life Successfully with Dissociative Identity Disorder”.

The term "called out" may refer to this alter being triggered when food is present or is brought out when a part is triggered by food, allowing it to take control of the situation. Alternatively, it may refer to the switching technique learnt in therapy, where communication between alters is improved to the point where one alter can reach out and ask another to take control. However, this is a complex skill, as it is considered, to master and there will always be a risk of failure, so it cannot be guaranteed to work every time. Based on this, it can be assumed that the term refers to the act of this alter stepping into either calm or avoid a trigger.

Hey! Saw your post about Octacon, just wondering what your experience with it is/if it's worth checking out as an alternative to Simply plural? We're just not personally fans of Sp's layout and have only just heard of Octacon

It's 100% a viable alternative to SimplyPlural if you're on android - it's not on iOS yet, last I heard iOS is in development and aiming to be launched in late 2024/early 2025. Octocon doesn't have the web app version (yet) so if that's something you use a lot then it may not work out as well.

SP vs Octo layout

Hey! Saw Your Post About Octacon, Just Wondering What Your Experience With It Is/if It's Worth Checking
Hey! Saw Your Post About Octacon, Just Wondering What Your Experience With It Is/if It's Worth Checking

If you find SP's layout pesky, definitely give Octo a go! Currently, Octo doesn't have quite as many features as SimplyPlural but it's a very new app atm and it's improving very quickly :)

If you use discord a lot; it also has a baked in set of features, similar to TupperBox and PluralKit that allow for proxy messaging

There's a lot of information available octo's discord if you're curious: link (https://discord.com/invite/octocon)

Hi, I'd like to do a bit of clarification here. There's word going around (especially on platforms such as Tumblr and TikTok) that we're "anti-endo" and are going to go on "user crusades" to ban non-traumagenics like certain other SP/PK alternatives did.

This has not happened and will never happen.

We consider our community to be traumacentric, in the sense that our platform was designed specifically for people with traumagenic/medical DID/OSDD in mind. We explicitly develop our platform to accommodate symptoms such as dissociative amnesia. We are not going to stop anyone from using the app or bot, we just ask that our Discord community sticks to that theme so we can form a proper support group around that demographic. Going on "endogenic crusades" would be uncouth, childish, against our values, and quite frankly absurd.

We have a neutral stance on systems not caused by trauma. Our platform just isn't designed for them nor around them. If you came here with the intention of sparking discourse regarding this subject, please leave.

A part that bothers me in particular is that this also implies that we would violate user privacy (or have already violated it, which is even worse). As stated in our privacy policy, this is also not the case. We will never look into someone's account unless we are legally forced to do so under U.S. law, or that person volunteers to share some information to help us fix a bug, at which point we will consensually collect as little information as possible.

I ask that anyone who notices this kind of rhetoric going around on external platforms help us to clarify any misinformation. It would help lessen our workload immensely so we can focus on developing features, fixing bugs, and stabilizing our community. For those of you I've seen who have already helped with this, I thank you from the bottom of my heart.

- Atlas

[copied and pasted on 30 Sept 2024 from discord announcement, posted in Octocon's discord 17 July 2024]

[and a little reminder that octo is aimed at CDDs but they aren't banning any systems with other origins from using it — full details of post in alt text]

Plus, Octo has a minecraft server for Patreon supporters if that's something you're into XD

We have another post explaining our personal usage of SP if anyone is curious

Ohh my gosh, all of this.

"just a me thing" was my excuse for everything

don't remember yesterday? forgot to eat? randomly got anxious without a clear trigger? forgot our bff's name? feel disconnected from everyone around me? can't remember my name? suddenly like foods that'd normally make me sick? desire to change gender and name change after stress? age regress and forget what happened when i regressed? randomly behave like a completely different person? have panic attacks after our ex had breakdowns and switched themselves (and then forget later)?

"Haha, sorry. It's just a me thing" I'd say with a smile.

Oh, how wrong I was.... that was an ✨ us ✨thing.

Overcompensation is a massive thing; especially when it came to friend interactions. There are pages and pages of notes where I'd leave reminders for later because 'haha, I'm super forgetful, oopsie! 😅' and the kinds of things were so mundane, like reminding myself I'd already put the rubbish out, or fed the cat or had my medication bc otherwise I wouldn't know it had been done in 1-2 hours.

Frankly, my dual autism and ADHD diagnosis the month before my 17th birthday didn't help — I had a new reason to say I was forgetting things. Without addressing all the underlying disassociation, depersonalisation, derealisation, blacking out/waking up and hearing voices, I could grin and say 'sorry, it's just the ADHD, lemme write that down or I'll forget'. The psych who did the assessment didn't go into trauma stuff and bc me being an oblivious dumbass host, I didn't remember anything and the only way she could explain the symptoms I experienced were AuDHD. I do think the diagnosis was correct though, I've always been autistic and ADHD, which worsened my trauma, just.. didn't have the words nor the memories to give her context for why I got angry and irritable at loud noises, panicked when someone touched my shoulders etc... the context I had was AuDHD.

;-;

thanks to the parts for that lil challenge.

A lot of people think "Wouldn't you easily notice if you had DID?" and even without accounting for amnesia, it's probably harder than you'd think.

Since DID is formed in development and prevents the integration of your personality, you have never lived as a singlet. You have no idea what it's like. Your symptoms are just generally "your normal", as well.

People can also naturally accommodate their own symptoms without realizing by simple trial and error. I used to write my math notes in heavy, near-excessive detail, since I knew there was a chance I wouldn't understand what I meant later.

Finally, a lot of people pre-realization just write off DID symptoms as "just a me thing" or a quirk.

It depends...

We have this thing happened in both ways so it's difficult to say at this point lmao 😭

This is the "What came first? The egg or the chicken?" for systems fr

Since we have many introjects of OCs we tend to think about who came first. Did we introject an OC or did we subconsciously know they were here?

@antipsychiatrist

Fuck psychiatrists is a blog that talks critically about the psychiatric field and how there's a lot of abuse, neglect and ableism in the mental health area, specially surrounding psychiatric

Here you can be real and serious about how fucked up the mental health area is regarding the CDD, because this blog is about CDD and for pwCDD, so all this is centric about that, but of course if someone wants to make a submission/ask about this that mix CDD and other disorder or something similar is completely allowed

This posts is to enlist almost all our side blogs that are personal like alters and grouping of alters so if you wanna go and check them out, or if you know one of this and want to interact more with the system behind them!

[For the non personal but more CDD community/system related sideblogs list look here]

We also gonna add some kind of description to the side blogs so you know about them before looking at them

This might be constantly updated because we love making side blogs, so keep this in mind to check it sometimes to see if there's an update

@namelnom

Principal host personal blog. He's a problematic and persecutor se be cautious when looking at their blog if you want to see it

Most of the content isn't going to be system related because of Namelnom's nature to forget the rest of the alters are there and deny the polyfrag DID that's pretty obvious we have. But when he does post system related he's probably gonna reblog them here too

100% recommend to read their pinned post before interacting and seeing the blog, they don't have a filter and might be triggering in some posts he mades

Says he's introvert but he's actually pretty extrovert so feel free to interact and send asks to him, just be cautious

...Side Blogs List (Personal)
...Side Blogs List (Personal)

@rowlpy

Ex principal host, not sure if he's still host or just frequent fronter

Most of its content can be divided in:

CDD related

SP related

Our system related

Pokemon related

So it might be a kinda silly and chill blog to follow and see

Also he's very shy and introvert so if you're going to interact or try to start friendly conversation or something similar be respectful, he's trying its best

@thermelalters

Thermel alters is a blog runned by four octives of our system, this octives are a family and didn't want separate personal blogs so they decided to go on with just one shared blog

I highly recommend seeing their pinned post because it has clarifications and information you need to know before following/interacting

They're pretty chill and are ok with interaction and questions

...Side Blogs List (Personal)
...Side Blogs List (Personal)

@factivehaters

Factive haters is a blog for our factives to be haters and yap about their sources

We found a pattern with our factives being disappointed and/or mad with their sources because 95% of the factives in our system are because their sources did shit to us, so they want to be little haters and yap about it

They founded funny that the name could be misinterpreted as a blog that hates the existence of factives as factives themselves running the blog

I recommend not seeing this blog if you don't like cursing, sarcastic and bad comments about people, have to clarify this alters do not condone harassment to their sources, they're also gonna censor and give nicknames to them for privacy reasons

...Side Blogs List (Personal)
...Side Blogs List (Personal)

@arachnidsubsys

Arachnid subsystem is our most active subsystem that tends to front most, they want a more prominent online presence to feel more separate from their sources (As a subsystem made purely of factives) so they made a blog for themselves

They don't feel comfortable in our general blog, so if you want to know them it has to be in their blog

Disclaimer, their blog is manly for them to vent, but not exclusive to that, and they're ok with interaction

(Do not ask them to activate asks, they're gonna activate it when they're ready to do it)

...Side Blogs List (Personal)
...Side Blogs List (Personal)

@mebhate

M.E.B hater trio is a blog runned by three prosecutors/persecutors and they're gonna be pretty aggressive in there

They don't mind interaction if isn't to change their views or tell them they're doing bad/hurt, they're aware of that, they just don't care and want to throw all their hate and pain in some random account

They don't condone harassment to the three targets of their blog, because yes, they're targeting three specific people, they will censor all the names to keep this three people anonymous

If you're triggered by very sensitive topics or dislikes hate blogs towards specific people I do not recommend looking at their blog, block them please

If you're willing to see be sure to see the pinned post to know what the blog's more about

...Side Blogs List (Personal)
...Side Blogs List (Personal)

That's basically all of the blogs now, they're fairly new so expect most of them to be empty, just wait and you'll find their pinned post right before hand

And remember, this are the ones done in the moment, we might be adding more as more alters feel free to have an online presence

It was a real roller coaster, it was a mix of a bunch of this things and similar things... It was wild because I tend to forget about it and till I accept it well I remember all those past semi-discoveries (I call them like that because I was aware of the disorder but not the system... Does that make sense??)

This is regardless of if you are self diagnosed or professionally diagnosed.
