Pstd - Tumblr Posts
Making yourself unavailable makes people forget about you.
who else had a sad transition from “I must hide everything about me and keep my walls up and show no weakness” to “oh nobody cares to know me anymore”

I just saw a post saying you can't hold a PTSD and C-PSTD diagnosis in tandem and/or that you can't ever be diagnosed with both.
In my experience, there's definitely times where you can hold both or have had both diagnosed but one be more valid than the other
- when PTSD was diagnosed in relation to a specific incident but CPTSD is present too (this is more or less what happened with us)
- PTSD diagnosis first, CPSTD later
- CPSTD is NOT in the DSM-V, so individuals may be diagnosed with PTSD by one clinician who uses the DSM, and then diagnosed CPSTD by a clinician who uses the ICD
More often than not, people will be diagnosed with PSTD first, followed by CPSTD.
Thought of the evening: I would never have chosen DID; and I simply don't understand anyone who wish to have multiple personalities...
I haven't been aware of my life for the last few months, and I despise how out of control my life feels. I do not remember most of my life; those memories live with my alters but I (now) love them with my whole heart.
I would have rather I never ended up this way. We never wanted to be a system, and none of us would wish this on anyone.
However, I am glad I didn't have to go through those things alone. I'm grateful my mind put up barriers, so I don't have to live every day re-experiencing and remembering those things I've read of in my system's journal entries. I'm glad our mind kept us safe, I'm glad we did our best at the time.
I'm grateful that I had them when I did. I'm grateful I had someone watching out for us even when I didn't realise it. I'm grateful for the system who kept me as safe as they could. I'm glad I had them with me.
I love my brain for making me a family...
but I wouldn't wish it on anyone.

Do you guys have a grounding box? What kinds of things do you use if so?
We do!! Though, we call it our sensory box. It's got a large mix of things we've collected over the years (and I do mean years.. we've got a baby rattle in here from childhood, lol)
essential oils and candles for scent based grounding
fidget toys: chewy things, pointy things, fidget spinners, fidget cubes, head scratcher, pop-it, putty
a kaleidoscope
stuffies: including three peas in a pod that we can throw at stuff without doing damage if someone's angry
puzzles: Rubik's Cube, one of those ball pushy things, and a couple metal puzzles
self harm alternatives: acupressure bracelets and rings, silicone slap bands, and some random keys haha
and a letter from my mum about how much she loves us (as a system)
and the box is decorated with things that make us happy!!

you don’t have 60 ppl in your head lmao you just like larping <3 hope this helps

I'm way too tired for this, but here we go
There aren't 60 of us. There aren't even 30. Nine alters have been observed in a clinical setting. Our username is intended as a joke.
We're a diagnosed DID system. DID is recognised in the DSM and has been in the DSM since the DSM-III (as multiple personality disorder). I've attached a copy of the DSM-V-TR definition for your convenience.

3. I do enjoy role play periodically!! But alters are very different to roleplay! Roleplay is a conscious, voluntary activity where a person intentionally takes on a character or persona for entertainment, creativity, or social interaction. Vs DID, where the switching between identities is beyond our control and often results in amnesia or confusion. Roleplay involves a continuous awareness of reality, with the individual fully in control and able to step out of the character at any time.
4. DID involves experiencing multiple distinct identities or "alters," each with its own personality, memories, and behaviours. We often switch between our alters, we lose time or and feel disconnected from our surroundings. We have severe memory gaps. One alter might not remember what another did.
5. DID is like.. PTSD+ it develops from severe trauma. If you're curious, I suggest reading "The Girl in the Green Dress" by Jeni Haynes and her psychiatrist.

i always read '/nm' (not mad) as the most passive aggressive thing.. i know it's not meant to be but i'm so used to understanding 'not mad' as 'i'm fucking furious and you're going to get an earful' that my brain reads it as angry⁹⁰⁰⁰⁰ 💀
Do you have any DID books? Especially fiction!!
Oh my gOSH I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR SOMEONE TO ASK THIS
AAAAAA, YES!!!!! Unfortunately I don’t have much fiction :(
Books we've read (and now own)
The Girl from the Treehouse & Beyond the Treehouse by Gudrun Frerichs (Women of our Time duo) - fiction, told from multiple perspectives in one body (MC is a DID system). Gudrun Frerichs is a retired a psychologist who worked with DID in NZ
The Girl in the Green Dress by Jeni Haynes & George Blair-West - non fiction
'I didn't know that you're only supposed to have one personality. I didn't realise that having lots of voices in your head was abnormal. But you are protecting yourself. You are protecting your soul, and that's what I did.'
All of Me by Kim Noble - non fiction
“It didn't matter that so much of what they said made logical sense- or that I couldn't find any more plausible alternatives. I didn't have multiple personalities, I just didn't - and that was that.”

We'll only buy books when we really love them; as is probably obvious by the number of sticky tabs in The Girl in The Green Dress..we've read it a lot.
I swear there were way more but they haven't been noted down and now I'm confused where they've gone 😭

It's not on Kindle Unlimited, as much as I wish it was! We do own a paper copy (as of ten minutes ago), but the version were reading on Kindle was found as a PDF free online, just dropped it onto our kindle. (Do that safety though, please. Make sure you have an antivirus and scan all your downloads, a lot of torrent sites are a one way street to getting a virus).
Audible has it and it can be purchased with audible credits.
